Episode 80 of The Mental Game brings aboard former All-Pro NFL cornerback Jerry Azumah.Azumah played seven seasons for the Chicago Bears, earning a Pro Bowl and All-Pro selection in 2003. His NFL career came on the heels of a super successful four years at the University of New Hampshire. Under then-head coach Chip Kelly, Azumah starred as a running back, winning the Walter Payton Award as the top offensive player in all of Division I-AA.Given his college success, Azumah was blindsided when he found out the Chicago Bears intended to draft him as a defensive back. When they did just that in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft, Azumah was forced to adjust — to learn his sport from the opposite point of view: as a defender. As he describes in this episode, the growing pains were grueling — but the subsequent life lessons were enlightening.Azumah figured it out for nearly a decade in the NFL. Now, he focuses on his family, his philanthropic work, and on his burgeoning media career. I've had the delight of producing and co-hosting his podcast, “To The Points with Jerry Azumah.” On The Mental Game, Azumah…Takes you through overcoming the shock of switching to defense.Explains how he developed an incredible ability to lock in on demand.Dives into the lessons his parents taught him, and how a conversation with his father saved his career. And much, much more…The Mental Game podcast is produced by Sam Brief and music is courtesy of David Brief and Channel J. Guests: Blue Jays pitcher Eric Lauer, former Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister This week in Deep Left Field, we present two in-depth, long form, incredible conversations. First, we get to know left-hander Eric Lauer, who emerged seemingly out of nowhere to be arguably the Jays' best pitcher over the past couple of months, and inarguably the one they would be lost without at this point in the season. Then, we get a fresh perspective on the biggest Blue Jays moment of the 21st century. Current Arizona Diamondbacks bench coach Jeff Banister was managing the Texas Rangers when Jose Bautista hit his iconic BatFlip home run. He looks back on that moment - and shares the incredible story that led to him getting to the major leagues - and tries to convince us that Rougned Odor is a good guy.

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Chris wanted to ask Mike about the reports of collusion in the NFL in regards to guaranteed contracts. Mike said a lot of it was about the Deshaun Watson contract, in which the Browns gave him $230M guaranteed. Mike explained how just days after the Watson deal was signed, the NFL and the owners wanted to work together on not making the high-level guarantees the norm. Mike dove into some of the other details and how Russell Wilson is involved. Mike drew a comparison between an NFL collusion case and pro wrestling when it comes to fan impact. Mike hopes that people understand this is a pretty big deal – the biggest collusion case in pro sports in about 30 years. Mike said it will only become a bigger deal if the players make it that way. On the heels of the Aaron Rodgers comments yesterday, Mike doesn't think it would be smart to do his weekly Pat McAfee Show hit this year if he isn't interested in attention. Mike said Rodgers knows that his mystique will get people talking about him.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of June 13, 2025. The excellent live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" benefits from strong casting, the iconic musical score remaining largely unchanged, and the incorporation of additional characters. Fans of the animated movie and subsequent streaming series should be pleased. Producer KellieAnn Halvorsen even offers her own review for the live-action film on today’s episode, after Andy finishes his “What to watch?” segment. Also out is "Materialists;” this one is a thoughtful look at relationships and marriage in the modern age, and poor Dakota Johnson, having to choose between Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. And a new Western movie offers a change of pace, with Samuel L. Jackson and Pierce Brosnan starring in "The Unholy Trinity." For streaming, there's also a new film on Apple TV+ called "Echo Valley," starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, but the characters were too unlikable for Andy. But Andy did enjoy the new movie "Deep Cover" over on Prime Video much more, but he didn't get to watch it in time to include it in this segment. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics. Based in the beautiful beehive state, Fan Effect celebrates Utah's unique fan culture as it has been declared The Nerdiest State in America by TIME, and is hosted by KSL Movie Show's Andy Farnsworth and KSL Podcasts' KellieAnn Halvorsen.
