Trust is such a challenging thing. On the surface it's easy to say that we trust God... then when life gets hard and we are hit with a pandemic, a toilet paper shortage or fears about the government controlling our lives we may find ourselves lacking in trust. This episode is not about the #coronaVirus, it was recorded November 8th 2017 but take a listen to how relevant it is today. Join us as we strategize actual plans to help us trust God more. God has a purpose in all things and he is truly worthy of our trust!
Life is so complicated and we are so busy that sometimes it's the basics that we forget. If we forget that we can turn to God and that we should turn to God first than life will continue to be hard. God is not our last resort but our first line of help. He desires our burdens to be light and our yoke to be easy but we keep carrying things he hasn't asked us to carry, so we continue to find ourselves drained. Give this episode a listen, we pray it blesses you if you feel overburdened. This was our second ever podcast recording and we never released it until now. God does have perfect timing and with everything we are going through as a nation it blesses my heart that God knew that when we originally recorded this episode on 10/19/2017 it would be a much needed message in 2020. Enjoy Matthew 11:28 and see how you can apply it in real life. For more episodes please subscribe and check out our website at http://scriptureIRL.com
Today, June 2nd, 2019 we are taking a few minutes to unite as the body of Christ and answer the call to pray for our President and this Nation. Please take this time to pray for the will of God to be done. It doesn't matter what side of the fence you sit on, we are the body of Christ and today we will unite and pray in the name of Jesus for the enemy to lose and God to win! Tucked away in the story of the man who was born blind we get insight into how God operates. We see the insight that was shared to the Pharisees to show that God does move and He does listen. If you have ever wanted to know that God listens to you this verse reveals WHO God does not listen to. We dive deep into the context, the original meaning and see how we can get God to listen to us. And... if He isn't listening to you... there is still hope. Listen now to learn how to apply John 9:31 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? What if everything you did in this life was counted as worthless? I am not just talking about the eyes of man, but the eyes of God! This verse reveals something we ALL struggle with and fall victim to. It's deception that we have let slip in and effect our walk with God. It’s time we take this verse seriously because until we do, we really are fooling ourselves. Listen now to learn how to apply James 1:26 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? There are two options when we serve God, to trust Him no matter what or to question Him at every turn. The crumminess of life is going to happen and it keeps happening. We don’t always know why but we do know if we truly trust God we can praise Him anyway. When we choose praise over questioning and doubting we open the door for God to be glorified. Billions… there are people who have billions of dollars in this world but they have nothing stored up in Heaven. What most value here on earth has an expiration date, there is an end to earthly goodness. So when we look in the Bible and find out that we actually can store up treasures in Heaven, what is that? We know it’s not money. What do treasures in Heaven look like? What can we do today to have more treasure in Heaven? God doesn’t promise us things for us to ignore them but to look forward to them. Let’s make sure we are storing up UNENDING treasure worthy of Heaven to store for eternity. Listen now to learn how to apply Matthew 6:19 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? The balance between faith and the law is COMPLICATED… In the New Testament a lot of detail was spent on explaining how to apply this new freedom they found in Jesus from Old Testament Law (PS. No circumcision, I think that was a marketing strategy). Fast forward to TODAY... None of us lived in Old Testament times so we don't have to ask about sacrificing lambs, burnt offerings, cleansing rituals for purification and more... But we are still required to UPHOLD the Law... and that does require us to understand HOW to uphold the Law. Thankfully this doesn't have to be as complicated as the enemy wants to make it, listen now to learn how to apply Romans 3:31 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? Weakness doesn't often bring to mind good things. Instead we are reminded of the pain, the weight and the burden from the brokenness. Weakness is often frowned upon and equated with failure... But God sees something so much more. He encourages us to endure anyway, to not give up, to press through for a reason… for a reward. God’s Word teaches us that there is much to come from our weakness if we let Him reign in them instead of our own misery ruling us. Struggling through infertility, addiction, parenthood, marriage, finances… all of these things can have so much goodness and STRENGTH when we apply this Scripture in Real Life! Jesus fought Satan with the “Right Verse.” He revealed this strategy so we could know exactly how to fight the enemy ourselves. If we don’t know the Word than we don’t have access to the right verse. We could fight Satan for years because we aren’t using the Word to shut him down INSTANTLY. What’s even worse is Satan is happily using the Word to manipulate us by twisting those verses, hiding the context and bringing frustration. If we don’t know the Word we will fall victim to Satan and be tricked over and over again living a life less than what God has planned for us. Our lives are full of doors. Some we try to breakdown and some we try to lock up tight and hide. Right now Satan and Jesus have a place in our lives. Who is on the outside and who is on the inside? Who are we giving free range to drive us in this life and who are we locking out? Contrasting the craftiness of the enemy and the kindness of our Savior, in this episode we break wide open the fears we have of judgement now so we can get freedom for eternity FOREVER. Sometimes we hold onto things because of how precious or necessary they are but what happens when we give it over to God? In this episode we talk about giving away thanksgiving leftovers and sharing bacon (I don’t know if that’s legal so don’t ask anyone to share just in case). We share about how surrendering infertility over to God turned that pain into way more than a baby. We also discussed the importance of surrendering God our time and our lives. Only God can turn sacrifice into abundance! God will ALWAYS take care of us! This verse is the reminder of what we must do to receive His abundance. The unmet expectations we put on God often lead to frustration which can quickly turn into offense. We all have wants and desires and even NEEDS for many different things including financial help, miraculous healing, marital help, being able to conceive and get pregnant, a desire for different work, more time to enjoy life, and a billion other things. The list literally never stops and we may find ourselves overwhelmed with our lack and enter into frustration and offense with God. Jesus was used to people being offended by Him. But as He shares in this Bible Verse those who are NOT offended by Him can EXPECT to be blessed. When we set aside our lack of understanding and recognize we are only seeing through a limited window we can change our offense for TRUST in God. We might not have what we want, or have our expectations met but when we truly trust our God we understand that we don’t have all of the answers but He is the Truth we can depend on, even when everything else makes no sense. If we desire His blessings we need to surrender our offense, and that’s not always easy to admit we have. BUT… when we dig into this Bible verse we find that God has more for us than we have assumed, and it is so so good. When Jesus starts calling people hypocrites we might sit back, take a breath and think phew… He wasn’t talking about me… BUT… there is always something to learn when Jesus is speaking. Hypocrisy is frustrating. It’s clearly being double minded. It’s clearly about deceiving. So how can you spot hypocrisy? What are the reasons people turn into hypocrites? If you yourself were a hypocrite… would you know it? Maybe somebody quickly comes to mind in your life when you hear that word. If so, this episode might give you some insight into how they turned that way which will help you to speak the truth in love to them today. The enemy has tools he uses to manipulate us from God’s plans. We are only deceiving ourselves if we think the enemy wont try to be crafty with his attack. One of his most powerful tools he uses is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of dying, fear of failure, fear of tangible things like bugs, or driving over bridges, even the fear of God can be used to keep us from a deeper walk with the Lord. So we have to genuinely ask ourselves, can we live in faith with fear in our hearts? Fear has the power to manipulate God’s truth and takes our eyes off of God’s goodness that He has for us. Even non “fearful” people would be surprised how many fears they find in their hearts when we search for this tool of manipulation. Fear is spiritual. God equips us to fight against our fears but we have to choose to submit to him and to reject the manipulation of the enemy. If we want our plans to succeed we have to be willing to look deep into our own hearts and find the intent behind it all. God knows our hearts better than we do. We can’t just think that we have the best intentions, we have to know and do a self evaluation to ensure that our hearts are in the right place. So if you want to make more money, get a better job, live a peaceful life and more, this episode will help you reach those goals. Busy, tired, exhausted, overworked lives are what a lot of us are living. The obligations and requirements of life have done their BEST to drain us of all joy. But when God’s Word says that everything we do needs to be done for Him how can we keep “doing” with frustration, bitterness, and anger as our fuel? Whatever we do, wherever we are, we are called to a standard that sets us apart from this World. But… that isn’t just about going to Church on Sundays… that is taking every moment every detail and giving it to God. God has promises for us in His Word and we can expect to receive them, but God is not a genie, or the tooth fairy, or our servant who serves us. He is our Heavenly Father. It is His job to parent us, to guide us into the best life. Do we want to be spoiled children who demand everything while doing whatever we want (that might sound good but you remember what happened in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Veruca, Right?). …OR… Do we want to truly depend on God and as we walk along His path we receive the good rewards of faith, which include the Desires of our hearts. The choice is ours. Listen now to learn how to apply Psalm 37:4 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? Jesus said a lot of things, and did a lot of things that freaked people out. He was bold and He often offended others. Most people with this reputation are easily forgotten, they don’t become worldwide, generation after generation famous… But Jesus did! There is something very different about Jesus. This difference is why we still know His name, we still quote His words, why people’s lives are completely changed because of Him. Once we choose to surrender our assumptions and find the truth at all costs we realize an intimacy with our Creator is on a much deeper, more powerful level than we have ever realized. What if we set aside our offense and looked deeper into the Who of Jesus. What if we stopped letting offense get in the way of the truth? Wouldn’t it be better to admit we are wrong than act foolishly believing a lie? If Jesus really is the Way, the Truth and the Life, what does it mean if we keep excluding Him from our lives? There is a cost to the choices we make. Every decision costs us something, but is every decision we make worth what we are giving up? We might think we are free because we have something called free will but today we are going to talk about sin. Sin becomes our master, it manipulates us and controls us and if we don’t pay attention it will cost us our freedom forever. We have a choice today and that is to be free in Jesus or to be a slave to sin. Listen now to learn how to apply John 8:34 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? If you have anger in your heart, how is the enemy using that anger in your life? How are you being manipulated into living a life less than the best of what God has for you? No one is angry without justification. Injustice happens every single day. But what does God really want from us? In this episode, we discuss things as little as anger that someone didn’t like a potato salad up to forgiving someone from incest. We discuss the pain of believing the lies of the enemy, where infertility caused so much confusion. We identify the justifications for anger which can alter our perspective of God. When we identify the enemy’s plans, we can fight back. We don’t have to be victims of his destruction. We absolutely have to choose God’s way, even if every fiber in us wants to retreat, avoid, and ignore the pain. Together we will stop giving the enemy power by letting go of the pain that God wants to take from us! Listen now to learn how to apply Matthew 11:6 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? God asks us to love no matter what. Not focus on injustice and to dwell in the anger of this world but to serve Him through forgiveness, service, and love. The way a Christ follower is called to treat their enemies makes NO sense! No one in their right mind would agree that loving people who have wronged us is the right thing to do, yet it makes COMPLETE sense when we live it out. We see the greater purpose beyond our own desires to be right and justified, we see God’s purpose. Honestly, most of us just skim over scriptures like this and dwell in the justifications for our anger. But we are partnering with God and choosing His way, knowing that His Word is meant to help and not hurt us. One great revelation we had during this podcast was that we might not have enemies that come to mind easily… but we do often have at least 1 enemy and that is ourselves. We are the ones who work against God and His good and instead partner with Satan himself to cause division between us and God. We all want to be blessed. We want all of the good things, the fun things, the expensive things. Those awesome memories and posts that people share on Facebook and Twitter, the IG dream lives that we follow and the skills of all of those pins on Pinterest. But there is a price that we pay when we strive for what others have more than we desire a relationship with God. With social media opening up our eyes to the many blessings in others lives it has also left us longing for those same things. This cycle of jealousy becomes a driving force which tricks us into leading a meaningless life. Listen now to learn how to apply Ecclesiastes 4:4 IRL. _____ Ready for next week’s scripture? We all want to know the will of God. His purpose, His plans, His will for our lives. So often we go through life uncertain of what to do and when and how to do it all. But God does have a will for all of our lives. Today’s Scripture IRL is just one example of how God simplifies this complicated question. The world is much worse off when God’s people don’t do His will. While convicting, this is also an incredibly empowering episode that will equip you to partner with God TODAY and start doing His will. We serve a God who wants us to be hopeful. The power of hope allows us to endure through life to get to the good promises God has given us. The enemy does his best to rob us of hope. When we are walking around hopeless, we don’t have the energy or drive to persevere. Without hope, depression, anxiety, self control, and all of the fruit of the flesh get ignited in our lives and we start living outside of the will of God. Hope is not really a choice when we serve the Lord, it is a requirement. But how do we find a way to hope again when everything in us tells us it’s better to not get our hopes up and to live a life full of expecting misery and disappointment? Accepting Jesus is admitting we are sinners, but now to live this life for the Lord requires our hearts, our minds and our lives to change. So the question comes up, can we ever be good enough, can we ever become pure? This scripture reveals the purification and preservation process that God plans in all of us. Without this scripture we might think the challenges of life are designed to break us and beat us down but the truth is there is purpose in our pain, in our suffering.
