In this episode Chris talks about the important legacy habit of storytelling. The first step in the process is establishing a habit of remembering what God has done.  Show Notes & Links: -Storytelling is one of the most overlooked skills of a Christian disciple and essential for building a legacy of faith.  -Remembering what God has done in our lives is the first step in telling the stories that build our legacy. -To remember, we need intentionality. How do you remember what God has done in your life? -In Psalm 103 David talks about three types of events he purposefully remembers: 1. What God has done (vv. 2-4) 2. What God is doing now (v. 5) 3. Who God will do (vv. 17-18) Tips to remember what God is doing right now: 1. Start with the expectation that God shows up every day in your life. 2. Collect what helps you remember: monuments, celebrations, and stories. Starting a list of what God has done: 1.  Start a remembering section in your journal, or get a journal and start writing things down! 2. Use a phrase and a date so you can remember the story. 3. Read over these entries regularly to build a memory and build your faith. 4. Just write down the things you want to remember. You'll get the hang of what that is. Pray and ask God to show you specific times he is showing up. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music

While we may not be able to choose happiness, we can choose joy. We can choose joy because it's not rooted in our circumstances or feelings but rather the truth of Who God is and who we are in Him. "Joyful" by Dante Bowe is a fun, upbeat song that can remind us of that foundation of truth. Let's explore a psalm together that reminds us that this is the day the Lord has made. As we continue to learn why every praise belongs to our God, Pastor Ford will explain how in the Psalms, King David was trying to get us to see why he was so blessed and that it was because he never put a limit on God.  As David grew, God just very naturally poured out His blessings on him.  So, Pastor Ford will ask us—what's our capacity for comprehension of Who God is?  Because we only receive from God in correlation with Who we know Him to be.  Find out more on today's Treasured Truth. Grace is the way to live in Christ. Grace is God's policy - always free and always based on Who God is, never on what mankind does. “For by grace are you saved through faith. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man would brag about it” (Eph 2:8-9). Saving grace. Learn and understand how Jesus Christ functioned when He was on this earth, see how He used grace, and replicate His mind. This is living grace. “Grow in the grace and knowledge of your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18). In grace, you can do a wonderful thing called forgiveness. Learn how to forgive others. Grace is the precedent for the Christian way of life. Living in grace, enjoying grace assets, giving grace, treating people in grace, receiving grace - what a wonderful way to live. As part of Who God is, He is by nature free. That is, no one or anything can compel Him to do something in a containing manner that governs His activities. This includes prayer. God has promised us to give what we ask, but it is only when we are asking according to His will, not to consume it of our own pleasures. So, when we are asking, we should have the right frame of mind, showing respect to our Creator for who He is, always starting off with worship – giving Him credit for what He has done – and only after expressing appreciating to Him for what we have making our request known, not to fulfill our desires, but to express a proper opinion of Him in our lives. Whether in sickness or in health, in poverty or wealth, or any other condition we can glorify Him and our requests to Him should be solely focused on this.

I will be putting a video together, but let me say that the families that were here had such an encounter with the Lord that we believe it will forever be a part of their lives!   Todays leadership podcast is titled…   Do or do not - there is no try   I am not a big Star Wars guy LOVE Star Trek - shout out to my dad on that one   But there is a figure in the Star Wars saga of a teacher, a creature that teaches the young Luke Skywalker how to use the fullness of his abilities… and in this particular scene, Luke says that he can't do something (that Yoda the teacher KNOWS he can)… Actually Luke says Alright - I will give it a try Yoda says no… try NOT   Do or do not, there is no try…. That is the theme of todays session on leadership   I have been blessed to group coach an amazing set of young men at the church over the last few months.  When I say amazing, I mean young men who WANT to honor God, become better men and prepare for Gods future for them.  These guys sacrifice half a day a month to learn about how to be a purposeful, godly man and they seem to enjoy it Ha ha  In these meeting we are talking about a LOT of things from knowing themeselvws and how God designed them    To knowing WHO God has placed in ther lives and their responsibilities to them   Even into discipleship and discipline  But we hit the wall on something as a group concerning discipline    It's a wall that is super common among men -  prob common amount  everyone   The wall is the space between what we want to do  and what we actually do!   Paul writes it this way Romans 7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I..   IN other words The things I want to do - I don't The things I don't want to do - I find myself doing   When Paul writes this - we can feel his pain! We know that feeling of doing what we don't want to do, abd not doing what we know to do!   But I feel like we make the words of Paul a get out of jail free card.    Paul wasn't declaring surrender or defeat, it was voicing what is likely the biggest battle that we will face.     Doing what we know to do   When we look at the life of Paul, there were many things that he obviously overcame -  denying the flesh,  living a life of servantude to the Lord Sacrificing his life for the call     But as Christians - well we play around with sin.   Instead of “warring” against our flesh or our desires... we accept them.     Or worse - we just “try” to change them    Why do I use the word Try   Well that is where I realized the wall that these young men were hitting.     And it's not unique to them We all use this word... try   So in one of my charges I shared  that spending time with the Lord on a daily basis  is the FIRST and MOST IMPORTANT step of a  foundational walk with the Lord.     That at the minimum they should be having a daily walk with the Lord - r eading the word,  praying and listening to the Holy Sporit.     When we went around the room to declare our actions steps    I heard several say “I'm going to try to wad my Bible everyday”...   And it hit me I “try” a lot of things I try to lose weight  I try to eat healthy  I try to be a good example to my kids I try to love my wife the way Christ would   And in all those areas I have accepted a “failure” rate  or at Best the  “good enough level”     I mean why is that?  Why is it that we give ourselves safeties -   I will only have Taco Bell once a week   My wife just made a decision that blows me away -  Not going to tell you what it is - but it reminds me of the promise I made Years ago that I wasn't going to have Taco Bell for a whole year. Believe it or not - I did it and it was HARD But New Years eve I picked up Taco Bell and ate it after midnight Seriously     It's like we don't want to look at ourselves in the mirror and consider ourselves failures  Of anything that we attempt to do that we don't get it done completely.    So instead of seeing a failure, we avoid it by throwing the word try in there.   But let me give you some of the dangers of the word try     What I have found is that when we live a life of “try“ we're never fully satisfied with our attempts    we never get the best or the most out of our failed attempts    we never get to fully celebrate when we win    and we never truly mourn our loses…   But why are those things so important us   why is it important to feel accomplished    why is it so important to recognize a failure and not avoid it?    why is it so important to celebrate a win?   Let's break those areas down like this…   What does trying cost me.    1- prevents growth from failure Let's read what the apostle Paul what's   2 Corinthians Chapter 12   9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.     Think about it what is Paul saying here? He say that he takes pleasure in his failures  he takes pleasure in realizing when we are weak -  God is made strong in his mistakes.    Can I tell you the power of realizing that!   I used to talk about this as removing the destructive power of failure  but it's really not removing the destructive power failure  it is harnessing the power of failure    what I meant by removing the power failure in times past  is the power of our emotional distress and failure.    But we have to realize just like fear is perverted faith  what I mean by that is that fear is simply putting more faith in what you are concerned or are afraid would happen  versus what God says and what God‘s Word says about the situation.    It's the same way with failure!   You can choose to be empowered through failure or to live in fear. And when you remove the power of failure - or I should say the fear of failing    and instead realize the empowerment of failing  then you look forward to every situation no matter the outcome.   And that's a tough statement   Notice I didn't say I look forward to the opportunityof every situation Im still learning this as well     And if I'm speaking to leaders that I think I am –    I know that feeling that failure is not an option.  And I am trying to - I am SHARING this interesting cycle   When we see that failure is not an option, we tend to lower the goal Instead of giving our all and letting failure be a process!   When we say we're going to try we are literally literally literally giving our self the very option that we don't want to give ourselves.    We're afraid of failing but we're making room to be ok with failing…   Because here's what happens when we give ourselves room to fail.  We don't give our best effort.    Because once we bring in the word try into our goals   we have told ourselves in our mindset the fro Ne-Yo of our thoughts that's the biblical word for the seat of our motions    Actually its Psyche - sorry - the seat of our emotion, and Phrone is the seat of our THINKING… so  Both   WHEN WE DO THIS - WE ARE SAYING IN OUR MIND AND OUR EMOTIONS     we are likely not going to accomplish this and we are too afraid to hold ourselves accountable to giving our best effort   Why? Because should we feel FAIURE - WE ILL THEN then we're not good enough —— BELIEVING A lie of the enemy   point 2 Trying prevents growth from success  Not only does it rob us from learning from our failures It prevents us from learning from our success!     I know this one seems weird but hang on with me  let's keep talking about our emotional mindset when we put the word trying into our goals     We put this word trying we succeed accidentally.  Or we succeed at goals that are not satisfying That didn't require hard work     What do I mean by that?    When we try something with part of our effort, with some reserve, with something left in the tank – than what we succeed at is only a portion of what we were capable of doing.   The word of God tells us that this is not the wya to LIVE! Sticking with the Pual Theme here He writes tot he church of Colossians Colossians 3:23-24 "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."          In the world of business coaching we aim for 90 Daily goals that stretch them    Its what they feel like they can accomplish along with all the other things that they need to do.    And I'm gonna be honest with you when a company comes back and hits 100% of their goals I'm disappointed.   Why?    Because that means that we set goals that we knew we could accomplish.    Now, that is a blanket statement and there are definitely times when it took all of the effort to get 100% of the goals done.    But what I'm referring to I really want us to be somewhere between 80% and 90% of her goals reached. Why?    Because that means that we pushed ourselves to the limit.    We gave our best effort and we got most of our goals done.  And! It gives us the room to grow!   We literally have examples of areas that we didn't succeed so that we can analyze them look at them work on them and grow from them!   There's nothing more disappointing than accomplishing the goals and learning nothing in the process.    So when we put tri-into our goalsetting we don't get the full benefit of celebrating our success.    Because on the inside of us we know we could have done better!   In the Old Testament the priest would atone for sins through two animals.  The sacrificial lamb and the scapegoat.  The lamb took away the sins and the scapegoat would literally take the shame out of the city as it was released…   I want to challenge you Sit down and write down ONE goal One goal for the next 3 days, or the next week or til the end of the month. I want you to make it hard Make it something that will require you to GROW in order to succeed - and Then I want you to write It out I WILL ….   Here is mine - I will exercise 3 days a week til the end of June (at the gym)and my daily 1.5 mile walk with my wife doesn't count…   Here is another one of mine… I will complete my new Kingdom Business Mastergroup strategy - by the end of June… Including all the roadmaps, sheets, pages and launch ready status.  Do or Do not There is no try…

"All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." Matthew 28:19–20Of all the great feasts we celebrate within the Church throughout the year, today’s Solemnity presents us with a Mystery that is so deep and transcendent that our eternity will be spent in perpetual contemplation. The Trinity, the life of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, will never get old, never be fully understood, and will be the cause of our everlasting adoration and joy. Though the Church has used philosophical concepts to explain the Trinity, no human concept or description will ever fully explain Who God is. Though we can point to some general truths about God, we will never be able to fully depict the inner essence, depth, beauty and omnipotence of the Trinity. As we consider that fact, it’s important to understand that the Trinity is not first a theological mystery we try to define. Rather, the Trinity is first a communion of Persons we are invited to know. We do not primarily come to know God through intellectual deduction. We come to know God through prayerful union with Him. Though theology is exceptionally useful and important, the essence of God is beyond any and every philosophical concept we can define. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are Persons. And as Persons, they want to be known. And they want to be known primarily through a life of deep and intimate prayer. Praying to One Person, of course, is praying to all, since they are One God. But we are, nonetheless, called to a relationship of love with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And though our feeble minds may not be able to fully comprehend the essence of God, He will draw us deeper and deeper into a knowledge of Him if we let Him.Prayer often begins by saying prayers, by meditating upon Scripture, and by listening. But true prayer is something much deeper. True prayer is contemplative prayer that ultimately leads to divine union. Only God can initiate this form of prayer in our lives, and only God, through this deep form of prayer, can communicate Himself to us as He is. Some of the greatest mystics of our Church, such as Saint John of the Cross and Saint Teresa of Ávila, explain in their mystical theology that the deepest knowledge of God does not come through concepts or images. In fact, if we wish to obtain a knowledge of God in His essence, we must allow Him to purge every concept of Who He is so that the pure light of His essence can be poured forth upon our minds. This knowledge, they say, is beyond knowing “about” God. It’s the beginning of a knowledge “of” God.Reflect, today, upon the Most Holy Trinity. As you do, say a prayer to God asking for a deeper and more intimate knowledge of Him. Ask Him to communicate to you His divine love and to open your mind and heart to a deeper understanding of Who He is. Try to humble yourself before the great Mystery of the inner life of God. Humility before the Mystery of God means that we know how little we know about Him and how little we know of Him. But that humble truth will help you move closer to the deeper relationship of love to which you are called. Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, please draw me into a relationship of love with You Who are one God and three divine Persons. May the mystery and beauty of Your life become more known and loved by me each day through the gift of transforming mystical prayer. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2021 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me, and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.” John 12:44–45Note that Jesus’ words in the above quoted passage start by stating that “Jesus cried out…” This intentional addition by the Gospel writer adds emphasis to this statement. Jesus didn’t just “say” these words, He “cried out.” For that reason, we should be extra attentive to these words and allow them to speak to us all the more. This Gospel passage takes place during the week prior to Jesus’ Passion. He entered Jerusalem triumphantly and, then, throughout the week, spoke to various groups of people while the Pharisees plotted against Him. The emotions were tense, and Jesus spoke with greater and greater vigor and clarity. He spoke about His pending death, the unbelief of many, and His oneness with the Father in Heaven. At one point during the week, as Jesus was speaking of His oneness with the Father, the voice of the Father spoke audibly for all to hear. Jesus had just said, “Father, glorify your name.” And then the Father spoke, saying, “I have glorified it and will glorify it again.” Some thought it was thunder and others thought it was an angel. But it was the Father in Heaven. This context is useful when reflecting upon today’s Gospel. Jesus passionately wants us to know that if we have faith in Him, then we also have faith in the Father, because the Father and He are one. Of course, this teaching on the oneness of God is nothing new to us today—we should all be very familiar with the teaching on the Most Holy Trinity. But in many ways, this teaching on the unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit must be seen as new and pondered anew every day.Imagine Jesus speaking to you, personally, and with great vigor, about His unity with the Father. Consider carefully how deeply He desires that you understand this divine mystery of Their oneness. Allow yourself to sense how much Jesus wants you to understand Who He is in relation to His Father.Prayerfully understanding the Trinity teaches us much, not only about Who God is but about who we are. We are called to share in the oneness of God by becoming united with Them through love. The early Church Fathers often spoke of our calling to be “divinized,” that is, to share in the divine life of God. And though this is a mystery beyond complete comprehension, it’s a mystery that Jesus deeply desires us to prayerfully ponder.Reflect, today, upon the passion in the heart of Jesus to reveal to you Who He is in relation to the Father. Be open to a deeper understanding of this divine truth. And as you open yourself to this revelation, allow God to also reveal to you His desire to draw you into Their holy life of unity. This is your calling. This is the reason Jesus came to earth. He came to draw us into the very life of God. Believe it with much passion and conviction. My passionate Lord, You spoke long ago about Your oneness with the Father in Heaven. You speak again, today, to me, about this glorious truth. Draw me in, dear Lord, not only to the great mystery of Your oneness with the Father but also to the mystery of Your calling to me to share in Your life. I accept this invitation and pray that I become more fully one with You, the Father and the Holy Spirit. Most Holy Trinity, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2021 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

The Bible tells us that we are loved, valued, and redeemed - but the main plot of the Bible is not our identity. The Bible is about Who God is and what He has done. The storyline continues today through His people filled with the Holy Spirit. He uses us in His story not because we are great, but because of His great love.

Air Date: 03 25 21 The first original experience is original solitude. The popular notion of solitude is a calm, silent retreat at a monastery on a hill. This is not the solitude to which John Paul refers. Original solitude is John Paul’s term for the internal, spiritual identity of the human person. As such, original solitude has two meanings. The first derives from the very humanity of the person. The second meaning is based on the first meaning and is the search outside the self to be in relation that characterizes this humanity.     Man[kind]'s primordial state of solitude is where each is alone with God where having been created in His image, learns Who God is and self in relation to Him.  This is the very essence of life, the most fundamental premise upon which life is to be lived.  This is identity and essence of being and relationship with God.  This is one's spiritual unity with God in whose image man[kind] is created.  This takes precedence over human relationship.  It is not the retreat at a monastery, but an awareness of self with God.       Listen to Abiding in Christ Ministries with radio host Lesha Cantrell Monday through Friday at 6:45am (MT) on AM670, KLTT in Colorado; online at 670kltt.com; or via your mobile device on the free KLTT app. May God richly bless you as you abide in Christ!

Culture Shock Part 3: You Are What You Eat

Victory Fellowship Church Podcast

You’ve heard that  “You are what you eat.” Do you know that this applies to your spiritual life? So, what did you eat today? In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how to make sure that you are properly feeding yourself spiritually. Food is one of the things that make up a culture. We were created to require constant intake and that intake determines our output. Proverbs 4:23 – “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”  What you eat matters:1. You’re full of what you feed on.If you’re full of the world, you won’t have room for things of the spirit. If you’re full of the Spirit, you won’t be tempted by things of the world.  2. You crave what you consume.Feeding an appetite doesn’t make it go away, it makes it grow. 3. Lack of hunger is a symptom of sickness. If you've lost your appetite for spiritual food, you're probably spiritually sick. What you hunger for reveals your health. 4. Your quality of food determines your quality of life.Other things may make you feel full temporarily but won’t give you what you really want or need. What spiritual food should Christians be eating?1. Obedience.John 4:31-34 "Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work."Obedience is the measure of success for a Christian. 1 Samuel 15:22-23  Christian obedience is not adherence to a set of principles, or a code of ethics, but obedience to a person. We follow the words of Jesus because we trust Him even if we don’t fully understand Him. 2. The body and blood of Jesus. John 6:54-56 The degree that you dwell in Christ, will be the degree that you display Christ. The more you consume him, the more you will reflect Him.Matthew 5:13 Colossians 4:6  3. God's goodness.Psalm 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”Psalm 37:3 “Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” We need to not only be familiar with WHO God is but HOW God is.  You will be tempted to doubt God’s goodness because of disappointments in this world. But pain in this world doesn’t reflect on God’s goodness, it reflects on our brokenness. Are you eating kingdom food or the food of this world?

March 14, 2021 - On the last day of our three-week preparation for Lent, our Lord in His wisdom desires to reveal the love that He is to us. Why? Because at the revelation of Who God is to us, we clearly see Him. And, in seeing Him, we see the ways we are not yet like Him. Our Lord brings these things to the surface not to bring us to shame and despair, but to move us toward Him so that we can experience His merciful healing and be made whole. Today we look at the love of God; a love that we have been given grace to offer back to Him and become for one another.

Ephesians 4:4 states that we should have one Spirit, one Body, one faith..." In Mathew 25:41, Jesus states, "Then shall He (the King) say unto them on the left hand, 'Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels..." People go to hell and the lake of fire because they personally reject Jesus, not because God has predestined them to go to hell before their birth. And 1 Timothy 2:4, "Who (God) will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." We must each make a personal choice to receive the Spirit of Jesus(Christ) into our hearts! And after we do we will be held accountable to our Lord and Savior to share with others about the great Grace He has paid for on the cross for each of us! The Apostle Paul says for us to not receive the Grace of God in vain, or don't keep it to yourself as a secret! Share with others and especially with each family member. Get each to share their changed heart salvation experience, don't just hope they are saved just because they are nice and go to church, that is deadly. Self-Care… Do you need it? I love this topic - and I LOVED doing this podcast because I feel like I was finally able to communicate what “I” need to hear concerning this.  Why do we sacrifice the wrong things, and invest in the wrong things.  I believe it is because we have missed the true meaning of self-care Want to know more… Check it out!   OR want the show notes...  Just scroll down!     Listen on Spotify Or iTunes or Youtube Stitcher:  https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/leading-from-the-edge   Want to know more? It is something that we do every year and it has become the basis of our year - keeping us fully in front of what God has for us  It is full of worship time, quiet time, fun time, fellowship, learning, praying, seeking God for HIS plans for our lives - each one and for our family. Such a beautiful weekend of going from hearing about God to looking at him, seeking to hear from him, to gaze upon him! I was reading in Job with our family bible plan and I saw something that I have missed over the years It's in Job 42 5I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. 6Wherefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes. Of course, I am going to dive into it - what Did Job mean that his Eyes see God Did God come down and talk to Job face to face?  We know that occasion happened with Moses, but Moses couldn't look upon God SO… what is this When you look at th4e Hebrew word for seeth It means to perceive, gaze, inspect, consider… Oh man - there was a transition in Jobs life from being righteous by Gods definition to being in a relationship with God…. It was the transition from God telling Job to gird up his loins like a man To Job being honest with himself and with God  WHICH HAPPENED when Job shares this statement Job 42 5I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. But what happened when Job looked at God??? Verse 6 says… 6Wherefore I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes. Job saw in himself the flesh of man, the pride of life…  He saw that his best position was to repent in dust and ashes  But he also says I abhor myself We think of Ahbor as the greek word which means to HATE  But in this context, it is the Hebrew word that comes from reject, despise, refuses  To refuse me  to reject me IN a world where I hear so many people saying you have to love yourself first I think we have made too much of us being the center of the Universe I do not see that anywhere in the example of Christ… We think of Jesus as being the most influential person on the planet And he was BUT - he was also the most hated and his 3 years of ministry ended in people being so disgusted with him and his message and his followers that they decided to KILL him Yet - we strive so hard to build ourselves us We get told by so many people that we have to take care of ourselves WHICH IS TRUE - but not the way that we do it… I look at our lives as a tool in the hands of God There are several types of knives… Zion loves knives - infract while we were in Israel he and I spent over 2 hours looking for just the right knife And we finally found one that he loved… it is like an Israeli version of a bowie and Dao blade  Has this wonderful ivory handle -  Super ornate sheath Just simply a beautiful knife… but guess what The blade is so dull it has a hard time cutting butter Then there are our kitchen knives Some good friends came over to spend the night - family sleepover! And the father Jan di was in the kitchen getting our taco night ready to go and he gets my kitchen knife And goes to cut the tomatoes. And is like… this has been used so much it isn't even sharp anymore Do you have a knife sharpener?/ Nope - sure don't Ok… And then… I have another friend who carries a knife on his belt -  And he takes pride in how sharp knife is Any time we have been working on a project he would be there first one to get his knife out to cut a rope, or strip a wire or - name it…  Having that knife ready to use and using it a lot When I look at how we are supposed to have self-care I feel Like God had a different plan than what we hear in chat rooms, Clubhouse, or read on Facebook. Even the gurus who get out there and tell us to pamper ourselves…  I think God's view - I think we are seeing it in these chapters in Job Gird up your loins like a man - taking the role that we are supposed But then also the revelation that Job has in WHO God is in relationship to JOB himself There is the first knife that is the part of us that just wants to look good We spend so much time making sure that we are clean, pretty, the right materials, the right look And I know that saying it that way I am probably missing some of it Let us try this - how about we spend time doing what we want, filling our lives with pleasures and what is easy for us. Things that make us feel happy - or I should say make our flesh feel happy…  That is that first knife - beautiful, even the sheath was beautiful - well taken care of No dust, no blemishes on the blade, and…  COMPLETELY UNUSED! Why is unused - not because it isn't a knife Not because it isn't capable of being used But because all the effort was making it look good Not making it sharp Not making it fit for use! That is when we do all of our self-worth exercises  And please understand there is self-care that is needed WE need to rest (that is called a sabbath) But when we put all our efforts into what we want, what we want to accomplish most of us neglect the sabbath. But we all indulge in staying up late watching movies, or crashing down in the evenings in front of the TV….  Instead of investing when we should and resting when we should. We need self-care - but self-care is many things Let us ask it with these three questions  1 - Are you sharpening the blade or making the blade look sharp? 2 - Are you keeping the knife ready for use? 3 - Are you using it? I mentioned the first knife, there is self-care found in sharpening the knife! When my friend mentioned that I need to sharpen my knives I realized that I always just went out and purchase anoth3er knife set…  All that money wasted when all I had to do was sharpen them… I know that sounds so silly  BUT - hey dads, hey husbands, hey wives, hey employees, hey pastors How many of us are looking for new knives?  ouch!!! Gird up your loins like a man This is what happens when we get into a need and our knife isn't sharp We go looking for a new knife, instead of taking the time to care for the RIGHT THINGS    Marriages - couples - do you talk to each other Do you still talk?  Are you sharpening your marriage or is it dull from all the use and never tending… Or your walk with God Are you spending time developing the position of the leader of your life, or your position as leader more? Self-care is about keeping our knives sharp Our walk with God sharp Our walk with each other sharp OH man - and what sharpens us?  I know a lot of you are thinking of scriptures BUT right now - can you just take a minute and think about what in your life needs to be sharpened Write it down right now hit pause and take 2 minutes Ok - welcome back Now - can you write down what is the MOST important thing you can do to sharpen those areas. I want action written down Write two things… The first one is Prayer - I want you to spend time in prayer every day for those areas that God is showing you in your life, in your business! Then, you can get creative about what DAILY or WEEKLY action you need to do to sharpen that area  Pause this and write that down for each area Please - take the time to go from hearing the word of the Lord to seeing the LORD in those areas So the last knife is the one that my friend keeps sharpened Did you know that he was so quick to use it? So quick to offer others to use it He even had to tell - be careful its sharp I cannot t4ll you how many times I would use his knife and say to myself I want to have a knife like that But I have been on trips where he would get done with his knife, wipe it off, do a quick sharpening and then put it back in his sheath WHAT??? He was always assessing his knife after use - is this as sharp as it needs to be?    That is self-care It is realizing that you are a child of God first A father, husband, son next And then a pastor, business owner, leader next… Guess what is down on the list Golfer, football lover, guitar player, chess player, fisherman, hunter… So in our self-care - if I am honest with myself Sometimes I spend more time sharpening my business skills than I do my marriage …. Can we let that sit  Sometimes I lead from a dull blade Old information, old revelation, old hurts… old offenses, old unforgiveness SO going back to the top of this -  God's desire for us is better than we have for ourselves, but we take the easy path and we just get enough for God to hear him, but not to stop and gaze, perceive, inspect Him, and He - us… Let God take your life and show you what you need to self-care Where are you IN your leadership - in your staying in the position of being in the hands of God as a parent, as a spouse, a child - in the hands of God as a business owner, leader pastor - - -   Are you going to take the time to let God speak to you about what areas need to be sharpened? And then seek the Lord about what you need to do to sharpen?    And will you consider letting me know what God is sharing with you?  I love to connect, grow together

Doctrine is very important for the life of the church. The truth is everyone has some form of doctrine that they believe , but the problem is that many of those things don’t line up with the truthfulness of God’s Word. It’s always important to go back to the source and make sure we are getting an accurate view of Who God is and what God says. Scripture teaches us some very important truths about the prophecies of Christ and the message of the Gospel. Jesus’ coming was predicted for thousands of years. The Old Testament contains some 300 specific predictions about the coming Messiah. The very first prophecy about Christ is found in Genesis in the third chapter. In this chapter we have recorded for us the historical fact of the origin of sin, where it came from, how it happened and the result of its effect on this world, but in the midst of this catastrophic event God brings about hope for his creation.

FAR FROM HOME Today’s reading is Romans 5 – 8.  We are reading from the New Living Translation. We are so far from home.  Our whole being is lost. It was lost in the Garden – lost to the self, lost in sin, lost because of Satan.  We are so very lost, far more lost than we know.  But that is why God gave us the Law.  Sin is so deceptive that we minimize our plight.  We are blinded to how lost we really are.  But the Law opens our eyes and shows us how far from home we truly are. God gave us his word to open our eyes to see how deeply we are lost and how far from home we have wandered.  God gave us his word to prepare us to see and understand the Living Word. The Logos of God, The Final word, Jesus Himself. He is the Telos, the point and purpose and the complete exposition of Who God is and who we are in Him.     God’s answer to our plight is not the Law or the Prophets, or our ability to somehow try to live up to his standards.  We are incapable of it!  Paul looks at his condition and says, who can save me from this body of sin – this life of lostness? Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rm 7:24 NLT) And then he tells us what the answer is,   Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.  (Rm.7:25 NLT) He’s the only one who lived up to the demands of the Law.  In His life, he qualified himself for the kind of death that he would offer on our behalf, as a substitute for our lost lives.  And now, because God received that offering of his spotless life for us, God raised him up in new triumphant, resurrection life, over death, sin, and the grave.  And now his new life indwells all those who trust him.  His Spirit enables us to live the life we were once incapable of living. God has come to reinhabit that which was lost – making God’s life in us possible, even today.  Christ in us is our hope and our glory.  God has the answer to our lostness.  We no longer have to live far from home.  No he has come into the far country and rescued us from our slavery.  He’s freed us.  Now we can live free, not according to the Law, but by the Spirit of Christ, living in us. Prayer for Today:  Christ, come live your life in and through me. Do what I am incapable of doing. Help me to live in your Spirit and not according to the Law, and my old sinful nature, because I’m far more lost than I have any idea of. Teach me to live in and through your Spirit. With you all things become possible. Amen.

Day 29-Don’t Forget the Because (transcript & links) Read the Word: Habakkuk 3:17-19   Read today’s scriptures and take note of anything that catches your heart. What do you observe that God might want you to single out and pray about? Write down your observations. Dental work is my nemesis. I dread the appointment for days. I’ve never been a big fan of mouth pain. Even a routine cleaning throws me for a loop. I’ve always had a hard time remembering to floss. When I shared that with my dentist at an appointment, my dentist told me, oh, you don’t have to floss your teeth every day. Shocked at this new revelation of oral care, I answered, really? And he glibly answered, only the ones you want to keep.   Knowing the “because” brings tasks and commands to life. Just telling me to floss every day for good mouth health, whatever that is, wasn’t very motivating. The because—you’re going to lose your teeth—was the clincher.  In our journey to embrace the disruptions and detours God brings our way, we need to know the because to buy in. Some scholars believe that the short book of Habakkuk was written to prepare Israel for captivity by the Babylonians using a series of oracles. But at the end of this short three-chapter book, Habakkuk ends with a prayer that contains the three necessary declarations of making it through disruption with our faith strengthened: though, yet, and because.   Though (v. 17): “though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls…” There is nothing good on this list, so we know the prophet is setting us up for how to deal with trouble--whatever is coming.  Yet (v. 18): “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” Now these two verses together represent a statement of faith about trouble. They are comforting. But they are also perplexing. How is this possible? Enter the because.  Because (v. 19): “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.” When you add the because, we understand that it is possible to rejoice in trouble. Not because of what we believe, but because of Who He Is.   Friend, it’s one thing to know what the Bible promises, and another great thing to believe it’s true. But until we accept that this life of faith is only possible because of Who God is, we just have some promises on paper. They are true, because the one who promised is True. Never, ever forget the because.   Wait in prayer: Is it possible that our faith can be in our faith and not in our God? If I just believe, it will be true? Confess to God that your faith is in Him, not in what you believe. Thank Him for his power at work within you, for his intervention of blessings and trouble in your life. Ask Him to help you see disruption for what it really is—an opportunity to get closer to Him. And ask Him to help you really believe that He is the because behind your faith. .   Worship: I Believe (The Creed) performed by Hillsong Worship  Links (click 'em, they're live) Link to lyric video of I Believe by Hillsong Worship. Today, we’re going to be talking about how to get back to you. Then, I get to sit down with my good friend (and amazing Bible teacher) Kristi McLelland. Kristi has impacted my life in more ways than I can count. I just know you’ll love her. I want to end the show with a few questions to help you get to know God even better.   Do You Know Who God Is? It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the busyness of life, isn’t it? You change the diapers, get the snacks, prep the lunches, and try to make it to the meetings. Then one day you stop, look up, and realize you’ve lost your spark or the thing that makes you you. If you want to get back to you, you need to know four things: Who God is Who you are Where you are Where you're going If you know these four things, and if you can reset and refocus, you can get back to you and the truth of who you are and who you were created to be. When you try to figure out who you are without having an accurate picture of God, it's like looking in a blurry mirror—you can't see yourself, and you can't see what you're doing now. You can never get back to you until you understand the one who created you.   How to Better Understand Who God Is with Kristi McLelland Y’all, I’m so excited about today’s interview with Kristi McLelland. Kristi is a brilliant Bible teacher and loves to serve as the bridge between the Western world and the lands of the Bible. Kristi and I dive into the topic of who God is. We talk about: Asking yourself a specific question every time you read the Bible Posturing yourself to receive Believing that God is a Father who runs after you Meeting God in desert places   One Important Thing You Need to Know About God “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV) This verse is such an amazing reminder that God isn’t this distant, critical, unkind God in heaven. He’s a dad. He's your dad. He loves you like a father loves a child. And regardless of what your relationship is like with your earthly father, your father in heaven is so far beyond anything you could ever imagine. I want you to sit with these questions as you journal and pray about this and consider what it means for you: What’s your relationship like with your earthly father? How has that helped or hindered your relationship with your Heavenly Father? What does God tell you about himself in His Word?
