Welcome back everyone! I am so proud of my guests on todays episode, Nicole and DeAngilo, because they really showed up for themselves, and for all of y'all. Separation and divorce is such a hard topic to talk about. There's a lot of stigmas, judgements, stereotypes, and pressure just having to experience something like this. I know these situations are on the rise in our communities right now, but we need to hold space and be seen and heard, so that all of us can heal together. Episode available on all streaming platforms. Make sure to follow DeAngilo's podcast "Unplgd" (unplugged) to keep up with his work. For more of my content follow @showk.ace on IG and Youtube! Sitting down with one of the most recognized artist/producer/musician/creative in our Tamil community was such a privilege! The man himself, @yanchanproduced, sat down with me in a very moving and inspirational podcast episode. Yanchan talks about how his entire journey unfolded as being a Tamil kid growing up in Scarborough to making moves in the music industry, with all eyes on him. He takes representation to the next level, and really delivers some amazing and unique pieces for his audience. As a Tamil person, I am so proud of how he has created his platforms, and most importantly of how he remains committed to his people and his culture. He talks a lot about his people, culture, and experiences, with the release of his "Scarborough Beat Tape". Yanchan also dives into really important conversations about mental health, life purpose, mindset, and just straight up hard work! This episode will definitely make you reflect and appreciate his journey, so I hope y'all enjoy this!!!!
If there's one thing I learned in this lifetime, it is, learning to live in my truth. This concept of living in your truth is a scary one, because it gets really uncomfortable and difficult. However, we know that life can be difficult, and one way to navigate through it, is to understand that we have to be our whole selves and nothing else. In this episode I speak from my heart, and allow myself to feel what it is that has happened to me thus far. If you are someone who has been searching for direction and some guidance, I can assure you that this episode will provide you with some reassurance that you are going to be okay. Hope you enjoy it!
What does it mean to discover yourself? Is it something that happens early on in life or does it take numerous tries throughout your lifetime? Can we discover ourselves and be fully content? Such deep important questions, and the one person I thought to include in this conversation was my girl, Margo Thompson. Margo and I go way back y'all, just a pair of racialized women trying to debunk the system and this question. Margo opens up about her personal story of motherhood, her social work career, and her long lasting marriage, which all helped her discover more of herself, and she is unapologetically her!!! If you need some direction and have been feeling stuck, then this is the episode for you. Enjoy!
What have y'all been doing with your money? Are you making your money work for you? Have you looked into stocks yet? Well.....if you weren't able to answer those questions, then don't worry. I got the perfect person on todays episode to educate us on how we can invest our money!! Yassss, we trying to get rich out here sis. I sat down with Jessica aka Crypto Jess @jesswwoww to learn the basics of what we can do with our money, and how we can enter the stock market world. Jess shares her story of how she ended up quitting her day job, and went head on into day trading! She has learned so much through her journey thus far, and on todays episode she is pretty much giving y'all a free session on stocks 101. Jess also shares details on a company she co-founded, called @wearesmark, where you get to be a part of a community who wants to see everyone thrive!! Folks, go get yo dam notebook, you about to make some money honey!!! Enjoy!
It's been a minute, but your girl just dropped a solo episode. Yes, thats right, I went back to my roots of hosting an episode with just me. Today's topic is something that's been circulating in my circles for a while now, and I said, hell...let me speak my mind on this. The question a lot of us single people, and even some in relationships, are asking...TO SETTLE OR NOT TO SETTLE? In this episode I share my personal opinions and experiences as to why you should NOT settle. Everyone's stories are different, so whatever you decide, it's your choice. However, I'm hoping this episode gives some of you some direction or reassurance, that YOU ARE ENOUGH! Enjoy!
Chasing our dreams and living it out is something that many of us hope to experience. On today's episode, the beautiful Vithusayni, did just that. This musician was able to obtain many accolades at such a young age all thanks to her hard work, passion, and dedication to the craft. Vithusayni shares with us her journey into the music world, the challenges she has faced, how it has affected her mental health, and also the amazing opportunities she has received, one of which includes working with the world renowned Indian film composer, record producer, singer, and songwriter, Mr. A.R. Rahman sir. If you are someone that is looking for inspiration then this episode is a must listen! Enjoy!
One of the most common things we battle with the most is the relationship we have with food. Yes, you are not alone! This pandemic has left many of us with weight gain, and we just don't know where to start in terms of getting back into shape and eating healthier. Well on todays episode I have the beautiful Janika, who shares her journey of weight loss, but in a more healthier way, without the pressure of diet culture. If you are someone who needs to hear some motivation, some real advice, and looking to start your health/fitness journey, then this episode is for you. Enjoy!!
What's on your feeds? Is it something that represents you? Is it something that makes you feel good about yourself? Is it something that uplifts you? These are the questions we need to be asking ourselves when we are searching for representation and acceptance. One person who has taken it upon herself to ensure she is creating these spaces is body acceptance queen, Brynta!! On today's episode, Brynta shares with us her thoughts on the lack of space for bigger bodies, for POC bodies, for people who want to be seen. She shares what body acceptance means to her, how people can create more inclusive spaces, how to love ourselves, and how social media platforms need to accept all of us. This episode was very empowering for me to record, and I hope you feel encouraged to show up as just you! Enjoy!
One of the biggest focuses during this pandemic has been entrepreneurship, being your own boss, and starting a new business. With this industry being so driven, advanced, and competitive, are we taking care of our mental health? I wanted to get someone on this episode who would talk to us about navigating through this. The person that I thought would be a great fit in exploring this conversation with, is Ravi, aka a serial entrepreneur. He dives into how he landed in this field, how innovation and technology has changed the world, and how through all these advancements, we still somehow manage to neglect our mental health. He also speaks about his successful group on Clubhouse which he co-founded, called "Disrupters Den". This episode is filled with a lot of good information, and if you are someone who is looking to get connected, then get ready to take some notes! Enjoy!
When we talk about toxicity, it can take place in so many spaces. Toxicity affects us in such negative ways, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. On today's episode we talk about Toxic Masculinity with a male panel. These guys have been on my podcast a few times now, and they were very open to talk about this ongoing issue. Mayu, Steve, and Abi, I respect your vulnerability and your ability to identify the issue/gap/challenges/growth in our South Asian Tamil society when it comes to toxic masculinity. The guys talk about their experiences, their biases, and their commitment to breaking gender role stereotypes and accepting people for how they identify. Enjoy!
As we headed into the month of May, I was thinking of ways in which I would hold space for us, us Tamil/Thamil/Thamizh folks. May 18 is Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day. This day is observed by Tamil people, to remember those who died in the war. It is named after Mullivaikkal, which is a village on the north-east coast of Sri Lanka which was the scene of the final battle of the civil war. As this is a very difficult time for all of us, especially those that have experienced first hand of this war, and those that have lost loved ones to the hands of this genocide inflicted by the Sri Lankan government, it is a time we mourn and reflect on what has and still is happening to our people back home. As we remember all of the people that we lost, I wanted to remember why our Tamil existence is so beautiful. One of the ways in which we can do that, is to understand our language, our roots, our culture. Someone who is helping us preserve all of that, is Kanaga Books. In this episode, Abi (founder), talks to me about where this journey of Tamil books started, how she found a passion project through her lived experiences, and how she encourages others to embrace and continue learning our beautiful Tamil language. During times of darkness, we have to remind ourselves of the light that we can bring into these spaces. I hope all of you are taking care of your mental health, and holding space for yourself, so you can reflect and heal. Enjoy.
We all get to a point in our lives where we become stuck. We are not sure what our purpose or vision may be. We might now know if we will ever get out of this rut. Well on today's episode I am introducing the beautiful Anchelaa, who is a mindset and healing coach, to help us unpack what "inner work" looks like, and how we can work on becoming a better version of ourselves. This queen drops a lot of gems, so you better get a pen and a notepad, because these are some things you need to remember, when you are ready to start the process of healing. Enjoy!
The pressure of owning a property is at an all time high! As a society, we tend to define our success based on what we have. Even though owning property is a great investment, sometimes it might not be the right time for you. So to help us get a better understanding of when to buy/sell/rent, I got one of the coolest realtors in the game right now, Lucky, to give us his input/advice on what you can do next. Lucky explores the importance of a good relationship with your money, but also your realtor, who's main job is to work on a plan that fits your specific needs. Thanks to Lucky, I have settled into my beautiful new place, and he has taught me so much along the way. If you want to learn more about buying/selling/renting then go take a listen. Enjoy!
I brought the OG educator, Ms. Maliesha, back on another episode and paired her up with another heavy hitter educator, who's also a politician, and fellow Scarborough homie, Mr. Tyler Robinson. There are a lot of spaces where we talk about what change can look like, and what needs to be done, but today we have people who are actually working towards making this an action item, and pushing forward to advocate for the change we need. This episode is all about critically analyzing our education system, implementing an Anti-Black racism curriculum into our classrooms, challenging white supremacy, and most importantly working as a collective to create change... NOW! Grab your notebooks, class is in session. Enjoy!!
This is a packed episode with all of my previous beauty guests on the show. I sat down with Cynthia, Sindu, Durka, and Thanuska to hold a panel discussion on beauty standards, how they are perceived by society, the pressure of being a content creator, and so much more. I think it was important to have these conversations because for most of us, we just see a snippet of them online, off of their work they post. Today's episode shows that they too are humans, and they too want to be heard. All my girls deliver such healthy positive messages to future beauty content creators and also young folks to be true to themselves! So if that's you, then you need to listen to this!! Enjoy!!!
When I first came across Shobia's instagram post on the Fair and Lovely controversy, I immediately was drawn. The reason why was because as a child I grew up being embarrassed about my skin tone. Our Eurocentric society kept telling me that my dark skin was not beautiful. Shobia championed away and addressed this head on, and created a post and petition that went viral!! On today's episode she talks about her journey through this form of activism, and the importance of speaking up and pushing for change against colourism! If you want to know the outcome of her advocacy, then go ahead and listen. Enjoy!
Finding ourselves has become a common theme in our lives as it helps us focus on being a better version of ourselves. On today's episode, I have a good friend of mine, Ramanan Santhiralingam, who speaks about the importance of connecting to our spiritual side. He dives into deep questions of who we are? how we perceive things? what are our needs and wants? where does our happiness come from? ..and the questions go on! If you have been curious about engaging in more of the spiritual work, or wanting to just learn more, then this episode is for you! Enjoy!
When we think of the field of mental health, we know that the spectrum is endless. With so many areas of study, and so much research that is continuously happening, we get an opportunity to keep learning. Which is what you'll be hearing from our guest, Arany. Arany is a multifaceted woman who is a recreational therapist at a mental health organization, a PhD candidate, and also a business woman. She is literally doing it all, while maintaining a balance to ensure that she is taking care of her mental health. CW: Homophobia, racism, discrimination Representation, identity, intersectionality, mental health and so much more! This is a fully loaded episode with the amazing Diayan Rajamohan. If you are looking to feel heard, to learn, to make change, then tune in and hear him speak! Enjoy!
With everything that is going on in this world right now, there has been a new awakening for social justice this past year as many of you question the systems you're a part of. If you have done enough of your readings, then you know that the very system that was built to educate and inform us, is the same system that refuses to make the transformational change. On today's episode I have the amazing Maliesha, who is a huge advocate for anti-oppressive education and social change, and also a teacher in our education system. I must warn everyone, the conversations today are a bit uncomfortable but it is very much needed. So after you listen to this episode, I want you to ask yourself, how are you contributing to the change we need as a society, and especially to our BIPOC bodies/communities. Maliesha also speaks about her own initiative with @teachthetoughstuff, and how she is creating dialogues and opportunities to push the conversations forward. I hope y'all ready to take some notes! Enjoy!

On todays episode, I am introducing a young King in the photography game, and he goes by the name of Janarth a.k.a Hektickz/Hektick Lens. Hektickz shares with us his journey into photography, what inspired him, how he embraced his talent, and most importantly, how he navigated through his mental health to enjoy his passion. By the way, this man is also hilarious af, it's always a good time linking up with him. Hektickz drops some really good gems today, so make sure you tune in and listen!! Enjoy!
Today is LOVE day, and as some of as celebrate this day with loved ones, there are also a handful of us that might feel a loss or disconnect. We may feel this because we haven't introduced ourselves to the concept of self love. And don't get me wrong, people in relationships also need to explore this journey. Today, I have the beautiful Kanthini on our episode who shares her journey of self love, and how she got there. Her insight into therapy, and how it has benefited her, is a great conversation to hear, especially if you are considering it or feel like you need additional support. This episode is to remind everyone that you are worthy of love, you are worthy of happiness, and it all starts from within. Enjoy!
Y'all better get ready for some sass, personality, and a whole lot of confidence...because on today's episode that's what you'll be hearing. The queen herself, Durka Muru, has entered the chat! Durka speaks about hard work and dedication to the social media game, and how it's like to be a content creator while holding down a 9-5. Sis is here to drop some gems on being yourself, and having a good support system to help her get through the difficult times. Oh and she has a message for people trying to cancel others....I literally fell off my chair when this girl said what she said...haha! Go listen and find out!!!
Look who's back y'all....the fellas returned to drop some more gems! Now, I will warn you, this episode started off as a casual catch up session...and then bam!!! These guys went straight into dropping serious intel on the latest news hitting our tv screens. We talk about COVID update, the US elections, and then Mayu brought up GameStop and everything went "Nerd Mode"!!! So if you are a beginner, intermediate, or expert in STOCKS...yeap stocks...then this is the episode for you. I learned so much from these guys off this episode, and I know you will too. Tune in and listen, because I am certain you about to learn a thing or two. Enjoy!!!
Today's episode is a mix of feeling happy, but also revisiting our trauma. It's so difficult to speak about our negative experiences, and it takes time to get to that point where we feel we are ready to share. Well, on today's episode we have the beautiful Sindujah a.k.a Sinkissed Beauty, who was so kind to share her journey of a toxic relationship, and how she had to go through it to appreciate a healthy one. My girl's energy was so contagious on this episode, so get ready to smile, laugh, and resonate with what she speaks on. For those of you in situations right now, where you feel like you can't get out, then this is the episode for you. Be good to yourself, and choose you first. Enjoy!!!
