Annually on October 10th, the World Health Organization (WHO) commemorates World Mental Health Day with the aim of raising awareness about mental health priorities. The day also calls for greater investment and action to improve access and support to mental health care worldwide. The theme for this year's observance, set by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) is “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies.” This global theme, emphasizes the critical need for robust mental health support during crises like natural disasters, conflicts, and public health emergencies, highlighting the urgent need to ensure that mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) reaches those people affected.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs together with the rest of the world observes October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and intensifies public health education to improve awareness among women of the importance of screening, the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and to understand the importance of early detection and treatment. It is anticipated that with accurate information, more women would lead healthier lifestyles to prevent breast cancer, ensure regular screening and consult medical practitioners when breast cancer is first suspected, and before the cancer is advanced. Early diagnosis is important as it is linked to effective and timely cancer treatment that requires specialized cancer care. In Saint Lucia, healthy lifestyles, regular screening and early detection are key in improving the outcome of breast cancer diagnosis. The Ministry of Health has decided to place special focus on the most prevalent type of breast cancer in country and ensure that women, men who are at risk, adolescent girls and their families are empowered to perform regular breast screening and to access the health services within their communities. In order to encourage breast cancer screening, mammography services can be accessed through any of the Primary Healthcare facilities, that is Community Wellness Centres, Polyclinics and District Hospitals. Individuals will then be guided to the St. Jude Hospital and the Millennium Heights Medical Complex to get the mammogram done at NO COST. Also, mammogram vouchers funded by the Ministry of Health will continue to be provided at outreach activities undertaken in workplaces and communities.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), has launched a joint initiative to strengthen Saint Lucia's mental health services through a five-day Training of Trainers Workshop. The program, which runs from October 13th to 17th, 2025, brings together mental health professionals and individuals with lived experiences to build national capacity, promote a rights-based approach to care, and enhance the delivery of compassionate, inclusive, and sustainable mental health services across the island.

Canada and the island of Saint Lucia celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday in October. Liberia sets aside a day for giving thanks at the beginning of November, while the US and Australia mark the annual holiday at the end of the month. Other countries, including the United Kingdom, Brazil, Rwanda, and the Philippines, have unofficial days to foster gratitude. There’s something powerful about a nation collectively expressing gratitude. It’s a picture we see when King David assembled the nation of Israel to give thanks to God for His presence, protection, and promises. The celebration marked the return of the “ark of God” (1 Chronicles 16:1). The people rejoiced that the ark, a symbol of God’s presence with them, was in Jerusalem. As David led Israel in praise, he reminded them of God’s protection as the nation conquered the land of Canaan (vv.18-22) and celebrated God’s faithfulness to fulfill His promises (v. 15). If you celebrate a Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family, consider making it a gratitude gathering and reflecting together on the ways you’ve experienced God’s presence, protection, and promises over the past year. Whether or not you live in a country that officially celebrates Thanksgiving, each of us can take time to express gratitude to the “Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever” (v. 34).

Communication Queen | entrepreneurship, marketing, storytelling, public speaking, and podcasting
Ever notice how the biggest breakthroughs don't come when you're grinding—but when you finally pause long enough to hear that whisper of inspiration? That's exactly how Patrick Francey, CEO, investor, and host of the global Top 100 podcast The Everyday Millionaire, birthed his show—on a beach in Saint Lucia with nothing but a notebook, a vision, and the courage to execute fast. In this episode of Communication Queens, Patrick pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to build a thriving culture, scale businesses, and lead with values that don't just look good on paper—but pulse through every decision, every hire, and every courageous conversation. We dive into: Why “high performance comes from low tolerances” (and what to do when a top performer is an energy vampire). The sneaky ways entrepreneurs tolerate themselves out of alignment with their own values—and how to stop. How culture creation applies whether you're leading 50 employees or running a one-woman empire. Why success loves speed—and how to trust divine downloads without bulldozing data. Patrick also shares the single most powerful fork-in-the-road moment that changed his entire entrepreneurial trajectory, plus his belief that the key to success is not just strategy, but the ability to choose who you're being. This isn't just another “how to” business chat—it's a transformational invitation to stop tolerating, start choosing, and build your empire on values that actually light you up.
St Lucia stands as the Caribbean's crown jewel, where volcanic drama meets tropical perfection. This Windward Islands gem offers towering Pitons that pierce the sky, bubbling mud baths that smell suspiciously of rotten eggs, and beaches that make other islands weep with envy. Between the French-influenced culture and British colonial remnants, it's a place where Nobel laureates emerge from fishing villages and chocolate grows on trees. Paradise, essentially, with decent Wi-Fi.Love the pod? Get the guide! Out with each new podcast, we publish a guide to the country. Nina Compton is the chef and owner of three highly regarded restaurants in New Orleans: Compère Lapin, BABs, and Nina's Creole Cottage. Born in Saint Lucia, she honed her chops at many notable restaurants before appearing as the fan favorite on season 11 of Top Chef. Nina's new cookbook, Kwéyòl / Creole, written with Osayi Endolyn, is a true standout, tracing her culinary journey from growing up in Saint Lucia to Jamaica, Miami, and her adopted home of New Orleans. It's so special to have Nina in the studio to talk about making this book and her culinary career. And, at the top of the show, it's the return of Three Things, where Aliza and Matt talk about what is exciting them in the world of restaurants, cookbooks, and the food world as a whole. On this episode: Pig & Khao, from Leah Cohen, is doing really interesting things on the Upper West Side, get to AbuQir in the Little Egypt section of Astoria, Menus By Brian is the coolest cookbook series. Also: A development in Aliza's kitchen and it's steaming, the great Yuzu Co. has a new line of drinks, NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani wants to open city-owned grocery stores. And as a P.S.: I Leave It Up to You by Jinwoo Chong is one of the most-representative restaurant culture novels in recent times. Do you enjoy This Is TASTE? It's Sutton vs Dorit and Erika in Saint Lucia this week. Whose side are you on? Is Sutton blinded by Kyle and leaving her bestie, Garcelle, in the dust? In the Hamptons, Carl throws a shipwrecked party and Paige is already seemingly ready to drop Craig, while Craig refuses to talk to Kyle, and is Jesse missing Lexi this weekend…Ciara seems like good distraction!
