S.T.E.A.M.Geeks - The League of S.T.E.A.M.

We felt it was high past time to reprise our exploration of season beverages. Back again is Eron Rauch, cocktail enthusiast, photographer, food blogger and friend. We sit down around the microphones to warm up in spirit of the season with some seasonal spirits! Following that, we discuss some simple DIY style gifts ideas.

Here at the S.T.E.A.M.Geeks crew, we know we're lucky and have quite a bit to be thankful for. In the spirit of the season, we reached out to our closest friends and asked them to tell us what they're thankful for this year. Here, like a turkey dinner for your ears, are the thanks of The League of S.T.E.A.M. family.

We decided that Nerf was much to fun of a subject to limit to one podcast! Returning to that fertile field, we discuss how Nerf relates to steampunk, cosplay, has spawned its own costuming subgenre and Nerf culture in general. Joining Nick and Glenn are: Ken Braden, James Fail and Kim Beierl of The Adventurers League of G.E.A.R.S. (YouTube); Austin Serkin and Megan Maude.

In keeping with our spirit of adventure, Glenn and Sheyne took to the streets, er, aisles of Comikaze Expo 2013. With microphone in hand they set out to take the pulse of the con, live, as it happened from the "Fan in the Street."

We couldn't call ourselves "geeks", now, if we didn't devote an episode to discussing all things Nerf. Glenn and Nick, who are the biggest fan of Nerf in the S.T.E.A.M.Geeks crowd, are joined by fellow Nerf-a-holic James Fail, of The Adventurers League of G.E.A.R.S. Along the way they discuss all things Nerf and foam dart related. Will we determine if it truly is "Nerf or Nothing!" ? Well, there's only one way to find out!

Once again it's our favorite time of year. Halloween season, of course! Nick, Glenn, Russ and Andrew convene to commune with the dark powers. By dark powers, I mean breakfast cereals, and by commune I mean eat. General Mills has issued for this Halloween season the it full line of spooky sugary cereals: Fruit Brute, Yummy Mummy, Boo Berry, FrankenBerry and Count Chocula! Suitably fortified with several times the daily recommended allotment of vitamins and minerals, we tell tales of Halloweens gone by.

In keeping with our spirit of adventure, we gave live streaming a try with Google Plus's Hangouts on Air. If you missed it, or just wanted to relive the fun in audio format, we're making our Live Webcast 01 this week's S.T.E.A.M.Geeks episode! We have an awesome podcast for you this time around! While at Dragon*Con 2013, the S.T.E.A.M.Geeks partnered with the Ratchet Retrocast crew to bring you an at-con, recorded in front of a live audience, double podcast. James Lavrakas joins the S.T.E.A.M.Geeks as we get into the details of preparing, launching and following up on the impending Kickstarter campaign for The Adventures of The League of S.T.E.A.M. Season Three.

Closing fast in a stern chase to our discussion of pirates, Cedric Whittaker of the Airship Isabella (Twitter: @airshipisabella, AirshipIsabellaFilms, Etsy) and Ken "Sharky" Braden of the League of GEARS (Twitter: @LeagueofGEARS) man the bridge with Glenn, Nick and Sheyne to discuss how Airship Piracy and Steampunk ended up going hand in hand.

Once more the bottles of rum are uncorked as Nick, Duane and Russ are joined by Eric Schuman aka Stark Cordwain of The Dread Crew of Oddwood. The rum is sampled and reviewed as the topic of conversation turns to plunder on the high seas! Piracy, the golden age of sail and privateering are all fair game.

It's that time of year when geeks of all type, not just S.T.E.A.M., make their annual pilgrimage to the shores of sunny San Diego, California to attend the annual Comic Con International: San Diego. As our plates get a little full during this season Andrew, Glenn, Nick and Russ sat down to simply reminisce over Comic Cons gone by. It's like story hour, for nerds!

A topic we've missed for far too long, this week the S.T.E.A.M. Geeks start thinking 4th dimensionally! That's right, time travel! Joining us for this discussion are Donna Ricci of Clockwork Couture, and steampunk scholar Austin Sirkin.

We were a bit parched this week, so we decided to focus an entire review on Pear Ciders. Somewhat under represented in most of our local markets, we scoured the local beverage establishments in order to secure adequate supplies to review! Joining us is Joshua Watts of Burbank's own Clockwork Couture.

We're joined by cocktail enthusiast, photographer, food blogger and friend, Eron Rauch. Bottles are gathered, ice is crushed and we talk about cocktails to refresh your summer. Hemingway is invoked, techniques are discussed and hopefully some value is imparted to the listener!

We break the mold and Glenn has a one on two interview with Philippa Ballentine and Tee Morris about their Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences books and "The Ministry Initiative", a Kickstarter campaign to create a role playing game and and an anthology set in the world of The Ministry.

Our Wild Wild West Con "Live" podcast was so much fun we decided to do it again! Recently Glenn, Kate and Trip attended Nova Albion Steampunk Exhibition in Santa Clara, CA. While they were up there, they sat down with the ever wonderful Gail Carriger to talk in front of our microphones.

This week we kick off with a review of Lay's Potato Chips "Do Me a Flavor" limited edition chips. Our main topic then covers creating worlds and using science, technology and magic i a steampunk setting for your authorial or role playing efforts. Joining us are Sherri Compton-Myers, author of Of Seraphim and Cherubim and Erik Sanstad.

We open up this podcast with a lively review of the new game from Irrational Games , BioShock: Infinite. Joining Trip and Russell for the review are Claire Hummel, who did some visual development for the game, and renowned game journalist Lisa Foiles. As if that wasn't enough, Brian Kesinger returns to our podcast to give us the scoop on his new book, "Walking Your Octopus".

This week, Nick, Russ and Glen are joined by Thomas Willeford of Brute Force Studios. We lead in with a long anticipated review of four bourbons: Knob Creek, Bulleit, Elijah Craig Small Batch 12 years, and Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage Premium. Following that, our main topic is antiquing. Where to go, how to find, and how to buy antiques to fuel the creative needs of steampunks everywhere!

This week we're trying something new, something exciting! On the weekend of March 8-10 The League of S.T.E.A.M. was in Tucson, AZ to participate as entertainers at Wild Wild West Con II. While we were there, we set up our microphones and recorded our first "live" podcast. Gathered around were Glenn, Trip, Robin and Russell who were joined by Claire Hummel and Justinian Stanislaus the Emperor of the Red Fork Empire. Ryan McMann, Owner and CEO of WWWCII stopped in to say hello, as did John Strangeway. All throughout the podcast, we took questions and had discussions with our fantastic audience!

This week we happen to be really slammed with the preparations for Wild Wild West Con, so we weren't able to record a podcast for you. However, we happened to have a couple interviews prepped and ready for JUST such an occasion! First off, our friend Matt Mercer was kind enough to help us review a quartet of interesting colas. We have Double Cola, Moxie, Curiosity Cola and MacFuddy Pepper Elixir. Nick takes us back to 2012's World Steam Expo where he had the opportunity to sit down and talk with author Jay Lake (@jay_lake) . Not content with just one interview, Sheyne has a nice chat with Gail Carriger (@gailcarriger).

Andrew, Russell, and Trip are joined by guest panelists Matthew Mercer, Patrick Freeman and returning panelist, John Strangeway. We start off with a nod to Valentine's Day with our review segment, Chocolates in Heart-Shaped Boxes! We bring in noted sweet teeth Glenn and Sheyne and open up Whitman's Chocolates, Russell Stovers, See's Candies, and Mignon Chocolates.

After a 13 month hiatus, S.T.E.A.M. Geeks returns! We've got a new website, new Twitter, new special guest lined up and more! Starting off 2013 we give decided to have a bit of a retrospective of what we would have podcast about in 2012 were we not crazybusy with our Season Two production. Joining us are Diana Pho and John Strangeway, also known as Ay-Leen the Peacemaker and Steampunk Boba Fett.

We bring our first year of podcasting to a close with a special guest panelist, award winning author Cherie Priest! Aubriana, Andrew, Duane, Russ and Glenn discuss the Clockwork Century series with Cherie. After her busy writing schedule whisks her away, our thoughts and hearts turn to that most special holiday topic of discussion... On a very thankful S.T.E.A.M.Geeks we get in the spirit of the holiday by reviewing three different pumpkin pies. We will also be looking at the history of Thanksgiving. We have yet another special guest packed episode for you this week! Our very good friends Captain Robert and Daniel Cederman of Abney Park join Glenn, Nick, Duane and Trip for a chat. Right off the bat they dive into our second review of that mighty liquor, Rum! Subsequently the topic moves onto Steampunk in gaming. Abney Park's Airship Pirates RPG is discussed, as well as a host of other games and how the genre of steampunk can be incorporated.

This week we are very happy to bring you two very special guests! Robin Thorsen, also known as "Clara" on "The Guild" and actor Doug Jones, guest star on "The Guild" but also known for such roles as "Abe Sapien" from the Hellboy movies. Our new friends bring along some of Jones Soda's new special edition "The Guild" flavors for us to taste. Then we discuss the role that steampunk plays in "The Guild" Season 5.

This time around we have devoted an entire podcast to reviews! Since we began STEAMGeeks folks have been rather enthusiastic about our reviews. The nice folks at Harper Voyager Publishing and Fox Chapel Publishing have sent us a couple books and put in contact with such authors as Tee Morris and Pip Ballantine. Independent craftsmen "Cogbots" sent us a generous review package of their wood gear kits. In order to catch up with what has become almost too much of a good thing, we are bringing you an all review Review-A-thon! Naturally we had to start with another beverage review! This time we sample and savor some common and not-so-common Hard Ciders. Then we review the book "The Art of Steampunk" by Art Donovan. We wrap things up by examining and reviewing the Cogbots Cogs.

Once again James, Robin, Nick, Andrew and Russell gather around the old microphone to bring you a review of the movie "Cowboys and Aliens". Then they continue with a discussion prompted by the previous episode's mail bag; a discussion comparing, contrasting and just talking about the relative differences between the progressive nature of Steampunk and how it is affected by the conservatism of the Victorian era.

Claire Hummel, renowned illustrator and the artist behind the cover to our Volume One DVD, is our special guest this week. San Diego Comic Con 2011 is our topic!

This week we have a special guest! Author Gail Carriger. After a bit of an interview, she joins us in a discussion of the classics. Classic monsters, that is, and their various origins in the Victorian Era. Alas, some nefarious spirit haunted our recording and caused its corruption about halfway through. This episode unfortunately ends on a cliff hanger. We do apologize both to you, the listener and to Gail for the difficulties.

We got carried away talking with Tony Swatton, owner and metalsmith of The Sword and the Stone. Who is Tony? Why, he is the troll in our webisode "Big Trouble"! Not to mention he is responsible for some of the coolest arms and armor in many of your favorite movies!
