Hold up - why are we watching Back to the Future? To our surprise, the third installation of the Back to the Future franchise was a western, because Mcfly and Doc end up travelling back in time to the 1850's.
The guys make their third visit to Hill Valley and close out one of their favorite franchises of all time. They debate Back to the Future II vs Back to the Future III and the decision to go out to the old west. They discuss the deeper Doc Brown storyline and the consistent changing of the future in the series. They pick their favorite version of each character in the series and close out with a list of their top 5 ‘third' film in franchises. Teaching Pastor Candice Covak continues in our Ezekiel series, God of Our Future with a powerful teaching on fear knots and fear-nots.
BACK TO THE FUTURE PART III picks up immediately after the cliff-hanger ending of the second movie, with Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) receiving a letter from a stranded but happy Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), after a freak burst of lightning struck the DeLorean. Discovering that Doc was killed a week after writing the letter, Marty travels back to The Old West in 1885 to rescue his eccentric friend... For such a beloved franchise, the BACK TO THE FUTURE series has always carried some ideas that are a little strange; a teenager that's best friends with a reclusive 60-something year old local oddball seems a slightly odd choice of protagonist in the cold light of day as does Marty's plan in the original movie to pretend to try to rape his own mother in order to help George win Lorraine's affection whilst the existential dread of Marty coming back to a new house and truck and meeting fresh versions of his family, inferring a life that he didn't live all the while carrying memories of a life that no longer exists is never directly addressed to my knowledge. After the high concept, great execution smash hit success of the first movie and the haywire craziness of PART II, the third film in the BTTF franchise suffers by feeling a little bit too small in comparison. Reversing the chemistry of the two leads, where Doc finds himself acting on his emotions when falling in love with Clara (Mary Steenburgen) whilst Marty has to stay calm and rational, is a charming way to round out the series and show how our characters have grown but overall the Old West setting is a bit uninteresting and a series known for zest and invention kind of fizzles out a little. Don't expect all the Dads to agree on that take, or do, it's not up to me but do expect some discussion of the persistent and recurring incest themes, hot and confusing though they are.

On this edition of Because…Movies, Jeff and Cory cut deep into their childhood nostalgia when they try and explain the unexplainable in two of their favorite movies. Listen to Mike and Tom discuss Back to the Future III. They disagree about the nature of this particular western, completely agree about the last five minutes to this movie and solve the mystery as to who in the hell Needles is and how his relevance is finally revealed in the final minutes of this otherwise fun film.
The conversation begins with a random chat on the use of checks (physical pieces of paper that represent money in your account, for the younger listeners). Somehow, that segued into a discussion of old timey "saloon music", which somehow shifted into a discussion of musical theater. It all makes sense if you listen, I promise. Note that on several occasions, Todd angers the Skype gods with his vocal distaste of Back to the Future III, which Skype punishes with audio clipping. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/todd8/message
For the 55th anniversary of the Help! album, TJ and Tony go track by track, offering hot takes on Maureen Cleave and a cautionary tale for prospective buyers of the Back to the Future III soundtrack. While Tony provides eagle-eared recording trivia yet fails to discern the difference between the Hofner and Hohner musical instrument companies, TJ speaks to the wonders of a new miracle drug called NUJV.They also ponder the placement of Matchbox 20 on the Mt. Rushmore of Rock while doing their best not to get “PJ Probied.”
Welp, we finally did it! We watched Back to the Future Part III, third installment in a trilogy that we are OBSESSED with but never got around to seeing the movie that closed it all out! From 1990, Back to the Future III picks up where the second movie leaves off, Marty McFly is stuck in 1955 again and Doc Brown is stuck in 1855. Time travel hijinks ensues and you have Marty chasing Doc back to the Wild Wild West as they try to figure out how to get back to 1985, while avoiding the descendent of arch enemy Biff! While we're no fan of Westerns, this movie is a fun watch as familiar scenes get played out but with a Western twist. There's lassos, lots of shoot outs, and everyone for some reason is very dirty or tan. We'll talk about how Sweetie suddenly thinks Doc Brown is hot (!), how this movie lacks a bit of oomph in the script department, and why they made Marty McFly's great, great, grandfather Seamus McFly, look like Eric Stolz? Coincidence, we think not! BONUS we reveal the winners of our anniversary contest!
The first episode of the podcast features a comprehensive discussion about Back to the Future with 80s Nerd Contributor Chris Clews and actor Burton Gilliam (Back to the Future III). We'll discuss the science, the famous plot hole, the music, the sequels, the cameos, the themes and more.

The gang’s back together! But remotely, so of course we have to apologize for our audio. We’ll work on our mics before next week. Happy Birthday Bill! Bill’s family got a dog named Max. Bill claims he’s growing a beard. Making face masks at home. Supply chains, and shopping during a pandemic. Garbage and litter. Kelley’s too fragile to watch Tiger King. Movie talk – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Back to the Future III. Kelley moved away from her terrible neighbor but is still taking revenge suggestions, so email us. Eagle talk. Trump sucks major balls. Kelley’s Hint List! Use warm water for sprinkling your ironing. Inflating car tires. (Kelley accidentally stopped recording here, and we pick up with Mary’s story about a Car Talk caller.) Don’t hang your clothes outside in freezing or super hot weather. Umpire Pants Out!

Reel Comic Heroes 082 - Back to the Future III Alright, Citizens. Here’s the truth. Travis was sick during this episode and sounds terrible, and we lost Patrick a third of the way in due to software issues. So we’re not exactly firing on all cylinders in this episode. Hello and welcome to the inaugural episode of For your Reconsideration, a podcast miniseries taking on the big awards movies of each year starting with 1990 and going through the present. Episode 1: 1990 Dances with Wolves, Home Alone, Ghost, Pretty Woman, Back to the Future III, Goodfellas. Just a few of the titles Cole and Ian discuss in this retrospective on the year 1990 in movies. Dances with Wolves reigned pretty hard this awards season, but after 28 years was there anything that avoided recognition? We talk about a bunch of parenting stuff before we get to entertainment, I swear. Moltz love The Great Escape but there are a few goofs in the movie (he's gonna have to go back and check the one he mentioned because it doesn't seem to be listed on IMDB). Lex can'd even start watching Back to the Future III without anticipating the creepy crotch kid. Turns out Lex actually watches television shows. One that he's enjoyed 15 minutes of is one Moltz suggested: Travelers. Lex had a suggestion for Moltz: Santa Clarita Diet. Moltz's own suggestion is The Crown. Her next role was in All the Right Moves (1983) in which she worked opposite Tom Cruise. Order 'Howard the Duck (Special Edition)' starring Lea Thompson, available from Amazon.com by clicking on the DVD cover above! Thompson’s big break came from the first Back to the Future (1985). It was the biggest hit of 1985, and Thompson was suddenly a wanted actress. Director Howard Deutch offered her a part in his next movie, Some Kind of Wonderful, but she initially refused it. Instead she made Back to the Future II (1989), but made Deutch a happy man by marrying him—and starring in Back to the Future III (1990). From 1995-99, Thompson starred in the NBC-TV sitcom, “Caroline in the City,” the saga of a popular cartoonist with wacky friends. She most recently starred in the “Jane Doe” mystery series on the Hallmark Channel and is in pre-production on three new movies for 2009: Prettyface, Rock Slyde and Splinterheads. Back to the Future is an American science fiction adventure comedy film series written and directed by Robert Zemeckis, produced by Bob Gale and Neil Canton for Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Rev your volume up to 88 and get set for our marathon discussion of all three Back to the Future films! Spoiler alert - these films have some pretty serious problems - perhaps best exemplified by Elisabeth Shue's TWO MOVIE-long nap! Back to the Future II makes About Time seem like a major advance in gender representation. But for better or worse, David Fiore and Elise Moore grew up in the 1980s, and we can't go back there and make ourselves not care about these movies! Moreover, there are a lot of time travel conundrums to ponder here. Download this before some dumb time traveler makes you disappear. Please don't hesitate to contact us, either at anotherkindofdistance@gmail.com, on our Facebook Page, our Twitter account (@TimeTravelFilms), or David's Tumblr (where you'll find a bunch of images). *Recorded LIVE at Review Bookshop, London* This is a special BONUS episode of Meat Up, Hulk Out. Arrogantly, after two episodes, we feel like we can get away with bonus editions. Well, actually, seeing as this is about our books and not about our interests, we are masking the marketing angle with the word bonus. I should stop talking. Nikesh was in conversation with James at Review Bookshop about The Testimony, The Explorer and The Machine. James read from The Explorer. We talk about genre snobbery, Back to the Future III, an odd Pop Tart James once had, and Nikesh's middle-class dinner parties. We talk about James' writing, about science fiction and about books. Enjoy. Buy some books from Review Bookshop: http://www.reviewbookshop.co.uk/ (Maybe James' books) Follow us on Twitter: @nikeshshukla @jamessmythe
On this podcast we look at one of our all time favorite movies Back to the Future III and explore the steampunk nature of the film. We also have the amazingly talented Brian Kesinger on to talk about his Tea Girl series.
A bit of a short show this time, folks. Jonny and Stan couldn't make recording, so it's just Mike Sklens, Jon Rind and myself. But we made do, with talk on Batman: Year One, The Ides of March, Paranormal Activity 3 and even some debate on Back to the Future III. In the second segment, we dicussed our Movie of the Month: In Bruges. We'd all seen it before, and we pretty much spend the whole segment gushing about it. Next month, it's Mike's pick, and we'll be talking about Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Thanks for listening, guys! If you have anything to say, let us know via email (crosstawk@gmail.com), Twitter (@crosstawk) or in the comments section on the site.
This episode takes John D. and Gen back to a 1885 Hill Valley in Back to the Future III. We discuss Marty's incredible strength in his capacity to carry Doc on his back, the weird DNA heritage of the McFly lineage and the need for a clock tower in a town with only about four houses. We establish that Marty has his priorities straight by going directly to the saloon and getting a "smoking wisky’’ when he gets to town. We also try to understand why 1985 Doc doesn’t remember what his 1955 version found out about his future, which actually happened in the past... and we lose ourselves in the fourth dimension. This brings an end to our Back to the Future arc. Hopefully no remakes are in the works. You can find us on iTunes under ''Legends Podcast''. Please subscribe and give us a positive review! The lack of data on the number of these lives makes them unseen, uncounted and unnoticed.
