  Combining bourbon and rye isn't necessarily a new thing, as Wild Turkey's Unforgiven took marketing advantage of a blending "accident" years ago, but with Beam's release of Little Book Infinite, and now their Bourbon x Rye they've taken the concept to a new level. Who knew HOW GOOD Beam's rye recipe is, especially when salted with a little 9 year Knob Creek. Nose is spicy with tropical notes and sweet almonds. On the palate, the 113 proof blend exhibits sweet rye smoothness, combined with a backbone of spicy bourbon. Again, this might be an easy release to overlook, but you shouldn't. It's delicious and will be the sneaky hit in any bottle tasting. And don't even get me started on how good of an Old Fashioned this makes. It's legit!

We couldn't think of a better way to spend our 200th episode than to discuss how bourbon can be used for charitable purposes. Medicinal Whiskey Charity is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded by a group of healthcare workers in Georgia and South Carolina in 2020. Well, this was one of those bottles you see and it looks familiar but so different. This bottle was a dusty when I bought it. It was bottled in 2018 and I bought it around 2022-2023. Another wonderful edition of Double Barrel with Ben and Kyle this week. Cheers! Russell's Reserve 15: Painstakingly crafted by Master Distiller Eddie Russell, the Russell's Reserve 15 Year Old is another exciting chapter in the rich heritage and legacy of Russell's Reserve. Non-chill filtered and bottled at precisely 117.2 proof, the limited release exemplifies Eddie's expert ability to develop complex flavors through careful aging and keen barrel selection. Knob Creek 12: Full proof for full flavor. An honest Pre-Prohibition style bourbon. Dark amber with a touch of red. A nose of heavy toffee with charred undertones, matured tobacco, toasted coconut and dark chocolate. The taste has bold and spicy overtones, leathered fruits, vanilla and caramelized wood. The finish is warm with the smoky char notes remaining for a lingering heat

  Our second Knob Creek single barrel in our warehouse series is from the 1951 Warehouse K. This was aged on the 5th floor of a 7 floor traditional rickhouse which contains only 20,400 barrels as opposed to the newer 50,000 barrel warehouses. Bold nuts and caramel on the nose with almond and baking spices. On the palate, lots of dried fruit notes with barrel spice emerging on the finish. The difference between the 2006 warehouse and the 1951 warehouse side by side is interesting, as I think the 1951 may have pushed a little further into the wood, but both are incredibly delicious!
