...in which we head south to Pendle Hill to explore the extraordinary lives of two campaigning outdoorsmen, who helped establish National Parks, Youth Hostels, the Ramblers and The Pennine Way – 60 years young this year. In the company of Nick Burton and Bob Sproule from the Pendle Radicals project, we set out from the Lancashire village of Roughlee, where the scene is set for the arrival of the 'two Toms' – a time where workers in the industrial north had to fight to access the hills around them. Striding onto Noggarth Edge, where views open over the former mill towns of Colne, Nelson and Burnley, we learn about the early life of Tom Stephenson, father of the Pennine Way, who was working in a calico works aged 13, and whose life changed forever on Pendle Hill. Jailed as a conscientious objector during World War I, we follow Tom into his campaigning years, when the concept of his 'Long Green Trail' took root. Descending to Pendle Water, we introduce the Reverend Thomas Arthur Leonard OBE, one-time minister of Barrow-in-Furness and Colne, whose commitment to social reform – and suspicion of the boozy Wakes weeks – gifted us the Co-operative Holidays Association, and its successor the Holiday Fellowship (he is commemorated in a plaque on Cat Bells). Arriving at the last-of-its-kind Clarion House, where working class cyclists and walkers still meet for shelter, education and fellowship, we enjoy the cheapest cup of tea in Lancashire, before reflecting on the golden age of access pioneers, and their remarkable legacy. Clarion House can be found here. For more about the Pendle Radicals, see here. More information about the Two Toms Trail can be found here.

Send us a Text Message.Imagine strolling through the bustling streets of Rochester, Minnesota, where every uniformed officer is a beacon of innovation and compassion in policing. That's the vision Chief Jim Franklin has turned into a daily reality, and we had the privilege of uncovering his approach to law enforcement in our latest conversation. As the torchbearer of a family steeped in police work, Chief Franklin draws on a wealth of experience to empower his team and uphold principles that resonate with every call they answer. Striding alongside officers who take pride in their service and leaders who embrace change offers a glimpse into the heart of progressive policing. Our dialogue with Chief Franklin ventures into the impactful programs reshaping the relationship between the police and the community they protect. Hear the story of how a simple fix—a lightbulb change for a car—can illuminate the path toward trust and safety. Lastly, brace yourself for a narrative that grapples with the physical and the philosophical, as we examine the role of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in police training. Chief Franklin articulates how this martial art transcends physical conditioning to refine officers' control, technique, and mental acuity. It's a testament to a culture that values confidence, respect, and the ability to resolve confrontations with a calm, measured response. Through these stories, we learn that the true strength of a police force lies not in its grip but in its unwavering commitment to serve with honor and heart. From his musical beginnings in fourth grade to landing the big gig with Willie Colon's band, Ozzie shares the essence of a musician's journey, and why it's crucial to seize every opportunity to prove oneself. We swap hilarious anecdotes featuring fellow musician Terry Nigrelli and reminisce about Ozzy's inaugural gig tour in Peru. Striding onto the bigger stage, Ozzy takes us backstage, revealing his experiences with big band legends like Bruce Springsteen, Mark Anthony, and Blood Sweat and Tears. The essence of a good gig, he believes, lies in preparation and keen attention. The conversation takes a nostalgic turn as we compare the club dates of the past to the gigs of today and the unique challenges a trombone player faces. As we move towards the end of our discussion, Ozzy peels back the curtain on his collaborations with various musicians, the challenges and the opportunities encountered as a free musician, and the four phases of a musician's life. Actual Zero Trust is really hard to do, and I think it's really intimidating...But, for instance, what we're talking about is micro-segmentation from a Zero Trust perspective, what is the best bang for our buck that we're gonna get with being the least disruptive?” - Ryan Fried--------Time Stamps* (06:31) Mapping out your risk exposure* (10:44) Striking a balance between good security and “good enough”* (13:03) Compliance in less regulated industries* (17:22) Being compliant vs. being secure* (24:22) Zero-ish Trust in action--------SponsorAssume breach, minimize impact, increase resilience ROI, and save millions in downtime costs — with Illumio, the Zero Trust Segmentation company. Tori The Moth wraps up 2022 with another creepy read from Gertrude Atherton. "This story was first published in 1896, and then again as part of The Bell in the Fog & Other Stories [...] in 1905. This eerie tale of friendship and love lost delves into the question 'Where do we go upon the moment of our death?' Does the soul instantly leave the bodily shell in which it was contained... or does it linger... just for a moment?" Part 5 of "The Pace of Grace"
One of the highlights of Strictly Season comes at the close of October and with the show's infamous Halloween Week! This week, Kevin, Jo and the community take you through the best of the weekend's entertainment, the dances, the drama, the tricks and all the treats! KEY TAKEAWAYS There is always a fault to be found if you go searching for one in a dance. However, if the smaller details all click, especially when it comes to storytelling, then it can paper over any cracks. Judges do not always add criticism that seems valid, especially in terms of the dancer's journey. It may be possible that baggage is being brought over from previous dances, which hardly seems fair. When celebrities take part in ballroom dancing on the show, they have a tendency to move smoothly, but with small steps. Striding as movement takes extra effort, but can be a risk worth taking. The way a dancer holds their frame communicates a certain energy. This is why many recommend keeping elbows and chins high. BEST MOMENTS 'I thought this was sensational! I thought it was really, really good!' - 6:33 'This set my heart on fire' - 8:18 'The footwork was exquisite' - 23:01 'I was mesmerised by the choreography - no question!' - 52:26 VALUABLE RESOURCES The All New Kevin Clifton Show Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/TheKevinCliftonShow ABOUT THE HOST Kevin Clifton is a professional dancer who has been performing & competing at the highest level for over a decade. esus said of John, “What did you go into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear expensive clothes and indulge in luxury are in palaces. 26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.” (Luke 7:24-26) Lou Engle is a modern-day prophet who embodies the passion of a John the Baptist. Striding into history, Lou has become the ‘voice' of the 40 day prayer and fasting movement ever since he began leading The Call. From its first solemn assembly on the Mall in DC, hundreds of thousands have gathered to pray and fast for revival. Where did Lou come from? How did he become such a burning and shining light? Hear the conversion of Lou Engle, who went from being an aggressive basketball star to a prayer and fasting phenomenon. Lou Engle Bio Lou Engle is an intercessor for revival and the visionary co-founder of TheCall, a prayer and fasting movement responsible for gathering hundreds of thousands around the globe. He has been involved in church planting, establishing prayer movements and founding strategic houses of prayer. He is the originator of the pro-life ministry 'Bound4Life'. Now residing in Colorado Springs, Lou is married to his beautiful wife Therese and blessed with 7 wonderful children. He is the president of Lou Engle Ministries, which he recently launched to mobilize fasting and contending prayer, to envision and empower stadium Christianity, and to ignite reformation prayer into the nations of the earth.
Today's conversation between Chad Kneller, Martevious Young and I is in response to an amazing message from Michael Todd on leadership pace. Here are some of the high points: Many of us aren't as successful (internally) as we look on the outside. If you take a look at the pace you've set for yourself, is it sustainable? Are you running at 100m pace and trying to maintain it for the marathon? Jesus never ran to his next appointment and yet accomplished everything he was supposed to accomplish in three years. Striving is running and wearing yourself out. Striding is taking long, steady and decisive steps that you can do for the long term. The pace of grace is where you get great results and genuine rest. Are you creating a leadership environment that other people can model and emulate? Pace allows you to have margin so that you don't miss the moments, meanings and the miracles that are RIGHT in front of your eyes. The right pace allows you to be PRESENT. A vision never happens unless it gets written down... then get verbal and share it with someone so they can hold you accountable! Pace = Peace and true peace is real prosperity!
