Spinning out of last week's review of The Year Without a Santa Claus, this week we're looking at another classic Rankin/Bass Christmas cartoon that debuted fifty years ago: 'Twas the Night Before Christmas! It's set in the bizarre little town of Junctionville, where humans and mice coexist in a way we can't quite figure out. There we meet a humble clockmaker, a nerdy mouse, a clueless wacky mayor, an egomaniacal vindictive Santa, and a selfish materialistic populace dreaming of a huge Christmas payday, if only their giant musical clock doesn't explode. It's magnificent. We also discuss the whole voice cast, including Jennifer Grey's father, Amanda Plummer's mother, one of the Bad News Bears, Franken Berry, Twinkie the Kid, and (according to Wikipedia) an "owl-faced, portly character actor." So knock back an egg nog or six, let up a little on the wonder why, and give this podcast a try. The Flopcast website! The ESO Network! The Flopcast on Facebook! The Flopcast on Instagram! It's all Frights and Delights tonight, as we get you into a Boo-Berry marshmallow mood for this special time of year. That's right, go out and buy your seasonal monster cereals while you can find them, cause it's time for our “cerealized” version of a Halloween Special, The 9th Annual Franken Berry Season Primetime Special! Going all the way back to maybe the worlds first science fiction, the mad scientist has been an integral contributor to our pop-culture. From Frankenstein to Dr. Jeckle to Back to the Future's Dr. Brown and this Tim Travers dude, the mad scientist has been a stand in for a god complex in an unpredictable world. Hosted by Grimtales Shea, Markeeeekaghost and Johnny The Hacker we ask…Would you if you could? Could you if you should? We'll never know but we just can't get enough of their madcap hijinks and the pop-culture that they create! Now go grab a buddy and a Monstermallow cereal and watch a scary movie in the dark, it's Franken Berry Season y'all!
It's just not the Halloween season without them... Today, we go back to witness the creation and release of everyone's favorite breakfast monsters. it's a story that goes back to the early days of cereal, the silent film era, the monsters of the 60s, and their release in the '70s. But it was during the 1980s that Monster Cereals continued to grow in popularity. It was also during the '80s that the Monster Cereals experienced some of their biggest changes--both physically and to the Monster lineup. This is the story of Frankenberry, Count Chocula, and Boo Berry--plus two others that you may or may not remember... The Everything 80s Movie Review Podcast: Patreon.com/80s

It's Halloween season, which means it's Monster Cereal season! And while we rarely eat the stuff anymore, we do welcome the return of Count Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo Berry, and the new girl, zombie DJ Carmella Creeper. (Sorry, Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy fans. Those weirdos aren't around this year.) The big news is that the monsters have pets now! Meet the Frightful Friends: Benny the Bat, Igor the Spider, Scratch the Snake, and Meow Berry. (What, no chicken?! Send your letters of complaint to General Mills...) Several Flopcast listeners have even provided photos of this year's cereal boxes, saving us a trip to the grocery store, where we'd just blow all our podcasting profits on Doritos. Your TSHE Hosts are out and about this week, so we bring you an (almost) timely show from Spooky Halloweentime (tm) two years ago. But please listen to recently recorded intro/cameo/review from one of our younger listeners/future co-hosts.It's Spooky Halloweentime (™), and your TSHE hosts are here to talk all about monsters - the monsters we loved and the monsters that scarred us for life. We also discuss why vampires are so dang sexy (are they?) and the history of the General Mills' monsters. In small talk, Hillary prepares for the big day/weekend while detailing her previous big weekend. She and Ann agree that 44 is a nice number (11!) before Ann gives a lovely rendition of Happy Birthday (by Stevie, of course). Finally we realize that we're all complete nerds! Shocking twist! Wes and Nick watch this rad ass commercial from the 90s with a Chocolate eating vampire! Background:In March 1971, the first two cereals in the line were introduced, the chocolate-flavored Count Chocula and the strawberry-flavored Franken Berry. Count Chocula is the name of an advertising character for an eponymous breakfast cereal made by General Mills. He is a vampire that ostensibly eats only the chocolate cereal he is named after. His voice and image are an homage to Bela Lugosi's portrayal of Count Dracula. Count Chocula is a benign character rather than a malicious monster.Support the show:

That's right, go out and buy your seasonal monster cereals while you can find them, cause it's time for our “cerealized” version of a Halloween Special, The 8th Annual Franken Berry Season Primetime Special! This year, in solidarity with our forsaken SAG brothers, we turn off the tube and flip open the garishly beautiful cover on the greatest graphic novel ever, CEREAL and a monster sized interview with it's creators Writer Mark Russell and Visual Artist Peter Snejbjerg. Plus: We dig up a new Monsterpiece Theater lost episode, “I'm Your Marshmallow Friend Till the End” a radio drama inspired by 80's slasher movies but with a Monster Cereals cast, chocolate and berry sweeties and 20% more frankenstool than the leading competitors! Now go grab a buddy and a Monstermallow cereal and watch a scary movie in the dark, it's Franken Berry Season y'all! Hosted by Grimtales Shea, Markeeeekaghost and Jimmy The Ghoul. Available NOW at your favorite comic shop… They lurk in the shadows—and in your shopping cart. The dangerous and the damned, the monstrous and the mutilated, the devils who snarl at innocent children from boxes of sugar cereal. AHOY Comics is proud (and slightly terrified) to present CEREAL, a dark, distinctly adult, and lovingly funny take on an earlier generation's beloved monsters.
It's our final episode of spooky season and we're discussing the new comic from Ahoy Comics: Cereal by Mark Russell and Peter Snejbjerg Does Jake need a countdown before we start recording? What's up, dudes? It's a fun, light hearted episode today with special guests Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast and CM Chuck from Just Another Friday Night! That's right! We're talking the General Mills monster cereals! Officially created in 1928, General Mills traces its history back to the 1860's. Introduced in March of 1971, Count Chocula is a chocolate loving vampire designed by George Karn. His cereal, as his name suggests, was made of delicious whole grain corn chocolate flavor frosted cereal and marshmallow bits. His Bela Lugosi-inspired voice was provided by Larry Kenney for the commercials. In the 1980's Count Chocula character was re-vamped (pun intended) with a more svelte physique, a slender nose, and added shading on his clothes. New boxes were introduced, even including a set where Lugosi's Dracula chased a terrified Count Chocula.Franken Berry followed soon after in October of ‘71, also a Karn design. He is a slightly rotund pink version of Frankenstein's creature with sweet strawberry cereal and marshmallows. Voiced by Bob McFadden, he was given a Boris Karloff-style voice.Boo Berry, the blueberry flavored cereal ghost mascot, was released in 1973. His Peter Lorre-tinged voice was provided by Christmas special voice acting legend Paul Frees. Boo Berry is a blue ghost with a red bow-tie and red and yellow hat.Rounding out the cast is Frute Brute, a werewolf introduced in ‘74 and retired in ‘82, and Fruity Yummy Mummy, released in ‘88 and retired in ‘92. Both are fruit flavored cereals. In ‘85 the cereal pieces became ghost shaped, and in ‘89 bat shaped marshmallows were introduced.Hanna-Barbera vibe? Check. Classic Universal Studios Monster pastiches? Uh huh. Loads and loads of sugar? Definitely! So grab a spoon, put on your chocolate cloak, and pour out a big bowl full of this episode on monster cereals!'Tis the PodcastFB: @tisthepodcastTwitter: @tisthepodIG: @tisthepodcastFB Group: Tis the Podcast GroupJust Another Friday NightYouTube: @JAFNpodcastFB: @JAFNpodcastTwitter: @JAFNpodcastIG: @jafnpodcastCheck us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! Herschel Walker recently said at a Senate debate that “you gotta eat right” or insulin is “doing you no good.” The response was aggressive by all political sides. Suddenly everyone agreed that this was insulting despite the fact that the real insult is added to injury by conditioning people to the idea of living their life on a line thrown out by Big-Pharma. Too many of us shun personal responsibility in exchange for turning our life and health over to others. We rely on drugs, pharmaceutical companies, and politicians to take care of us. We vote for people who will ‘lower' the cost of already ‘overpriced' irresponsibility in most cases. Instead of debating over who did or didn't vote to cap the cost of prescription drugs or insulin, how about asking why so many people need these things to begin with? What about the revolving door between industry and government that works together to gaslight the public into believing they are getting a deal on things they largely don't need to begin with. The CDC says that “eliminating 3 risk factors – poor diet, inactivity, and smoking – would prevent 80% of heart disease and stroke cases, 80% of type 2 diabetes mellitus cases, and 40% of cancer cases.” How come members of the pandemos cult are not constantly talking about the massive amount of money and life that can be saved here? Likewise, how come those refusing gene-therapy needles for side-effects or ingredients willingly consume Halloween candy or cereals like Franken Berry, Boo Berry and Count Chocula, containing Red 40, Blue 1, and Blue 2, which not only cause toxicity to the liver and kidney's, but cancer and DNA damage? Listen as these things snap, crack, and pop you into terror.

It's a weird mix of topics for this quick little show, including: Kornflake mini-golfing in a hockey uniform; fun with standing desks (we've cleared the studio of silly old-fashioned chairs); International Teachers Day (just an excuse to celebrate Welcome Back, Kotter); the new season of Cobra Kai (and Kornflake's controversial Swank theories); ESO Network updates (300 episodes of Earth Station DCU! Monkeeing Around, a fun new Monkees podcast! And a Modern Musicology interview with an actual member of The Go-Go's!); a bizarre Chickens in the News story from a Florida garage; and a shockingly enthusiastic review of Frankenberry.
