Imagine you are sitting in a room with Denzel Washington, and you ask him, what is one of the most powerful lessons you have learned that has helped with your success? He pauses, leans forward, and says, without discipline you will never start and without consistency you will never finish. What you have read was one of many formulas for success. Jody and Morgon talk about how they learned what discipline is and how consistency is an intentional daily practice. Not everyone is your friend, you may have heard this from your parents once or twice before. What they were teaching you is not everyone will treat the friendship with the same respect as you may. Morgon and Jody lay out what friendship means to them by identifying what it takes to be in their inner circle. They illustrate how rings on a dart board are like different levels of professional or personal relationships. By the end, you will be able to answer who's on your board or if they made it on the board at all. Traumatic – Emotionally disturbing or distressing. Within society we are taught nothing good usually comes from trauma. Over the years we have learned more and more about Post Traumatic Stress/PTS (formally known as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder/PTSD) due to our wartime efforts. Now we have learned that PTS happens in all walks of life. What Jody and Morgon discuss in this episode is the ability to grow from trauma. A deeper appreciation for life and acceptance of new possibilities are a couple of signs of Post-Traumatic Growth. What happens when someone who genuinely cares about people starts a pressure washing company? In JC Chanowsky's case, you build a company with the type of culture that people are drawn to. JC joins Jody and Morgon to discuss his onboarding process, things he's learned along the way about keeping people happy in an industry that normally has a revolving door of workers, and how he has built a family environment in a pressure-filled world (I'm done with the puns, promise!). I've always been told not to do math in public, but when we started discussing the concept of enhancing performance the fact that performance is the sum of the parts put into it stood out. Caring, love (of course) listening, understanding, appreciating, and communicating are just a few of the factors that equal performance when leading teams and trying to enhance one's own performance. We started with two words, “enhancing performance” and got way down the rabbit hole very quickly! Morgon is known best as, “The People's Coach.” He coaches athletes, executives, and leaders with an emphasis on knowing and loving themselves first. His leadership and people skills were developed over two decades in the United States Marine Corps but Morgon has taken that passion and knowledge beyond his service. Morgon developed his coaching style after realizing his athletes needed more than just a workout and nutrition plan - they needed to be seen as people first. Morgon coaches executives and leaders the same way he coaches athletes, as people - not titles, so they can be successful in whatever they endeavor. Compassion, understanding, empathy and honesty aren't always puppies and rainbows. Sometimes leaders have to show love to their people by letting them know they're not performing at the level they should. We call this honest love and it can be uncomfortable but is absolutely necessary for leaders that care for their people. When a leader fails to give someone honest feedback they are robbing them of the ability to grow.
