Yes! You are in! Thank you for joining and when worthy, thank you very much for sharing. Extra thanks for Two Tall for that opening hook. Extra thanks to ThursDudesPM for bringing it last week. As for this round, why do you work? Why are we designed to work and contribute? Here's your mic drop, your hammer coming from a letter written to Thesselonica...We talked about the importance of the Living Word last week. You read it and it reads you. This hit me like hammer this week. Side note, not my first time reading it. I've ready it countless times. Yet that's the Living Word, it can impact you differently at different times in your life. Hence, it's Living. A reading from 2 Thes 3...Have you ever noticed that depression and idleness are closely related? How about addiction and idleness?Col 3:23I always feel good after a hard day's work, work out...ministry outreach. It feels good and overflows the heart to serve. To be of value to others. To be careful, we are not to be workaholics either. Some of us are bad at that too. Resting. We are commanded to Sabbath for balance.Have you seen a divide in the USA? Do we encourage idleness? Do we give people what they want for our power and votes? Do we encourage their addiction? Last week's reading warned us about helping people stumble. Think about that.On the flip side, I serve the homeless. Jesus encourages us to serve the poor, Matt 25:40. To take care of orphans and widows. Yet I don't shower and clothe my neighbors on the streets to keep them there. I don't give them pipes nor syringes. I serve to give them Hope. To get them off the streets and into a life of Purpose. 2 Thes 3 is really one of the mic drops for that. An idle society is a miserable society. For those in the States, you enjoy the fruits of that country by those who worked their butts off and sacrificed. If you think I'm trying to play a particular political angle, I also witness immigrants here in the Coachella Valley working their butts off in the hottest of days. Their work ethic blows me away. Did you know that retirement is not in the Bible? A warning about being a glutton is. God did not just put you on earth to golf, eat and drink. If by chance you are able to retire, good job on your hard work and stewardship. Now you have more time to serve the Lord, his Kingdom and your neighbors. Clearly, I'm not retired. If I could, I would still love and serve others. Whether you are 20 or 70, this may be your wake up call. The Idle Check Engine light may be on.Ending on a prayer note...
Why Your Thyroid Is the "Check Engine Light" Your thyroid is the check engine light, not the engine. With Hashimoto's, the real story is happening in your gut, your immune system, and your stress physiology, often years before your thyroid shows it. If you have Hashimoto's and you're only chasing your thyroid numbers, you're missing the bigger question: why is your immune system attacking your thyroid in the first place? In this episode of the Medical Disruptor, I break down what Hashimoto's actually is, what the standard "replace the hormone" approach misses, and why your low-functioning thyroid is often a check engine light for something deeper, including gut health, gluten, infections, chronic stress, and toxins. I'm Dr. E, the NP with the PhD, and I help humans go from medically gaslit to medically empowered. We'll cover leaky gut and the gluten-to-TPO connection, the gut microbiome's role in converting T4 to T3, infections like EBV and H. pylori, how chronic stress and cortisol affect your thyroid, endocrine-disrupting toxins, and the smartest next steps to take before you reach for supplements. The Check Engine Light of the Soul is a reflective movie exploring the quiet warning signs people often ignore in their inner lives. Using the familiar image of a car's check engine light, the movie examines how the soul signals distress through emptiness, loss of peace, emotional numbness, resentment, moral compromise, isolation, loss of wonder, and resistance to growth.Through thoughtful narration, real-life-style examples, spiritual insight, and practical reflection, the movie invites viewers to see these signs not as shame or failure, but as calls to pay attention. It shows how modern noise, busyness, distraction, and emotional avoidance can cause people to drift from truth, connection, gratitude, and purpose.More than a warning, this movie is a call to renewal. It encourages honesty, stillness, community, forgiveness, professional help when needed, and small acts of alignment that help people return to a healthier, more meaningful life. The Check Engine Light of the Soul is a serious but hopeful movie about listening before the soul breaks—and beginning again with courage.
Tonight's conversation tears apart one of the most dangerous fantasies modern people carry: the belief that a painless life automatically equals a healthy one. Entire identities now get constructed around comfort optimization, emotional sedation, curated peace, avoidance rituals, dopamine management, and psychological escape routes disguised as “healing.” Meanwhile, people continue repeating the same relationships, the same betrayals, the same loneliness, the same panic, the same emotional collapses wearing different faces and different names.
In this episode of the Flex Diet Podcast, I sit down with human performance specialist and coach Rob Wilson for a wide-ranging conversation that spans music, coach education, and what it really means to train for performance longevity. We dig into Rob's new book, The Check Engine Light: Tune In Your Body and Mind to Achieve Performance Longevity, and his work educating coaches through ALTIS and with special operations communities. Rob also shares why jiu-jitsu strength and conditioning still lacks clear performance standards and proposes building sport-specific frameworks (like lower-body clinching demands) before jumping to exercise selection. We talk grip strength vs endurance, avoiding redundancy and tendon issues, contra-specific training for durability, and why “recovery” isn't the goal—adaptation is—especially in elite sport. We're all doing it right now - eyeballing the spare boiler in the driveway that you may or may not need (probably not, if you're any sort of geek), wondering if there's some solid cash to be had if you just did a leeeeettle work. Well, the Gearhead Consultancy at the Garage Hour has done this before (a LOT), and we can help you get to done. What's a must-do and what can you explain away? Does the Check Engine Light mean buy a new sensor or buy a $20 code-reader? How do you move from attracting a shopper to making them a buyer? Are you ready to pounce when Mr. Shopper's want turns to need? ...And do you know what your buggy is worth? While we're at it: PPIHC 2026 (right around the corner), trying new snowblower repairmen (because why not), JFS4 detail ('froading is for fun), and yummy tunes from the one and only Cut Chemist (because that stuff's great too).

We all have things we worry about. Finances, the future, family, work, health, and the unknown can easily take over our hearts and minds. In this message, Pastor Connor wraps up our Stressed series by looking at Jesus' words in Matthew 6. Jesus doesn't just encourage us not to worry, He commands us to seek first the Kingdom of God and trust Him with the outcomes of our lives. Worry can be a sign of a divided heart, pulling our attention away from Jesus and toward the things we are trying to control. But when we surrender our worries to God, we find the peace that only He can give. In this episode, Rob Wilson breaks down how breathing, stress, and performance are actually connected and why breathwork isn't a shortcut around hard work, but a way to make hard work more sustainable. We talk about CO₂ tolerance, why panic is usually carbon dioxide and not lack of oxygen, and how high-performing athletes, fighters, and military operators can recover faster between efforts by changing how they breathe under stress.Rob explains why breathwork isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, why capacity still matters, and how coaches should adapt tools to the culture, goals, and environment of the people they're working with. We also get into nasal breathing, heart rate recovery, conditioning mistakes, jiu-jitsu, sandbags, valsalva vs breathing with load, and how intensity can sometimes be used to hide psychology.Along the way, things take a turn into AI books, Morning Glory Milking Farm, and how to “sound less fat” when you're out of shape. This episode is about making hard things easier without avoiding hard things.Follow Rob:https://www.instagram.com/thecheckenginelight/https://www.wilsonhealthandperformance.com/CHAPTERS:00:00 - Intro00:52 - Morning Glory Milking Farm05:48 - Breath Work for Different Populations13:02 - Benefits of Nasal Breathing16:08 - Nasal Breathing Techniques18:30 - Breathing as a Superpower25:28 - CO2 Tolerance in Breathing26:18 - Efficient Breathing Strategies27:47 - Managing Breathing Costs and Reserves31:07 - Body pH Regulation and Breathing38:34 - Methylene Blue Overview43:25 - Importance of Diaphragmatic Breathing52:39 - Free Diving Techniques1:00:00 - Effects of Nasal Breathing1:02:49 - Breathing and Weightlifting1:04:10 - Breathing and Force Production1:11:24 - Good Life Proteins: Quality Meat1:17:00 - Tips to Sound Less Fat1:22:34 - Understanding 1+11:25:30 - Inspiratory Muscle Trainers Discussion1:29:56 - Where to Find BrianSpecial perks for our listeners below!

SummaryDo you feel like you're doing everything right but still not seeing the results you want? In this episode, Chase and Chris talk about why working hard isn't always enough — especially if you're only focusing on part of the picture. They explain how your results come from stacking multiple habits like sleep, stress, movement, and nutrition — not just one or two. They give real-life examples from clients, show how to spot what's holding you back, and share ways to build better systems so you're not relying on willpower alone. You'll also hear how tracking your consistency and focusing on one change at a time can help you move forward faster — even if it feels slow at first. Rob Wilson is a performance educator with over twenty years of experience helping people build durable, high-functioning bodies and minds. He joins us on The Ready State Podcast to unpack the uncomfortable truth about performance: it's not free. In this powerful conversation with Kelly and Juliet Starrett, Rob dives into the real price of pushing your limits, why sleep is non-negotiable, and how to reframe “selfish” self-care as the foundation for showing up better in every area of life. Together, they tackle burnout, aging, and what it takes to sustain health and high output in a world that rewards constant hustle. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeThe three waves of fitness, and why Rob Wilson's book represents the vanguard of the third wave. The problem with the democratization of health metrics like Heart Rate Variability (HRV) if you don't know how to interpret the data or take action. The story behind the "Check Engine Light" metaphor, which helps high performers prioritize what to address and what to ignore. Why the phrase "self-care" often fails with service-oriented and high-performing individuals and the analogy used instead. The "Cobra Effect" or Goodhart's Law, and how chasing a metric like a high HRV can lead to misleading and useless outcomes. How to stop the "medical cascade" and apply an experimental framework (test/retest) to chronic, nagging pain and everyday health issues. The true cost of high performance and the crucial need for a "cost mitigation strategy" to avoid burnout. Why context matters more than perfect protocols, and how to create a personal longevity dashboard for continuous adaptation. For more info, follow Rob on Instagram and definitely pick up a copy of his new book, Check Engine Light: Tuning Your Body and Mind to Achieve Performance Longevity.Key Highlights: (00:00) - Intro(00:48) - Check Engine Light Book Overview(06:49) - Check Engine Light Metaphor Explained(14:06) - Importance of Check Engine Light for Everyone(17:49) - Inputs and Outputs in Life(20:37) - One Size Fits All Approach: Myth or Reality?(25:25) - Identifying What Matters Most to You(27:28) - Performance Costs: Understanding Trade-offs(29:27) - Recommended Supplements for Health(32:55) - LMNT: Importance of Hydration Explained(37:10) - Resistance: Creativity's Universal Challenge(39:48) - Becoming Reasonable: A Personal Journey(45:18) - Heart Rate Variability (HRV): Benefits Explained(47:15) - Using Tracking Devices Mindfully(49:57) - The Cobra Effect: Understanding Consequences(57:55) - Setting Up Environments for Success(1:00:20) - Changes Since Writing the Book(1:03:14) - What's Next for Rob: Future Plans(1:04:30) - Finding Rob: Where to ConnectSponsorsThis episode of The Ready State Podcast is brought to you by LMNT and Momentous.

This week's Beyond Sunday episode features the Student Ministry team—Michael Shearon, Evan Ryan, Hannah Buttram, and Tate Wells—led by Tate as host in Josh's absence. What starts as a hilarious conversation about childhood fears quickly turns heartfelt as the team dives into the sermon theme: moving from fear to faith. From haunted house stories and Hamburger Helper nightmares to lessons about Abraham and Sarah, the group explores how fear can control us—but faith can free us. The team reflects on how fear manifests in modern life—through anxiety, hesitation, and control—and how God calls us to trust Him instead. Michael shares how fear has compounded in his own life but also strengthened his faith. Evan challenges listeners to ask, “Is this a good idea or God's idea?” while Hannah shares her journey of trusting God through discomfort when saying “yes” to ministry. Together, they remind us that fear is contagious—but so is faith—and that courageous obedience might just change everything in our homes, workplaces, and churches.

In this episode of the First Responder Wellness Podcast, host Conrad Weaver welcomes human performance coach Rob Wilson, whose upbringing in a first-responder family shaped his dedication to supporting law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS through wellness. They explore how first responders constantly operate on high-alert biologically, often without healthy recovery systems—leading to burnout, early illness, and mental fatigue. Rob discusses his ‘Check Engine Light' framework—designed to help first responders self-monitor stress and mental/physical health in actionable, sustainable ways. The conversation delves into key building blocks of wellness—resilience through jiu-jitsu, breathwork, sleep awareness, and everyday movement rituals like sun salutations—that help maintain focus, longevity, and mental sharpness amid job-related stress. Key Takeaways: Allostatic load and the armored mentality: staying alert comes at great personal cost. Developing a self-dashboard: Simple practices and audits for mind, body, and chemistry.
