On this week's episode of The Legend of Retro, the sweet, family friendly IP takes a dark turn and gets violent and starts swearing. And the game they cover does too! If you listen with kids, be sure to let them know how lucky they are to be listening to such mature content!
Let's take a trip to the past with some of your favorite retro game podcast hosts, as Chops and Craig_WK jump into the Epoch and take a trip to 1995! They look into the history of the game, the brilliant collaboration of the dream team of Japanese style role playing games, as well as the amazing music. That description might be bland, but we can always re-do it with a New Game Plus! To finish off the episode, the dynamic duo talk about a Retro Relapse that was too hot to handle in a previous episode. We hope you enjoy hearing about the greatest JRPG of all time!
One day, quite by accident, a gate to The Legend of Retro was opened by a gang of podcasters skilled in the black arts. This land was like no other. In the gathering twilight, the episode shone from its resting place high above the world. In a long running battle, the leader of the podcasters fought his way past his followers Xander and The Glitch in lust for the episode on Link to the Past. After vanquishing his own followers, the leader stood triumphant over the episode and grasped it with his blood-stained hands. He heard a whispered voice: “If thou hast a strong desire or dream, wish for it…” And in reply, the roaring laughter of the host echoed across time and space and even reached the far-off listeners. The name of this king of podcasters is Craig_WK, but he is known by his alias Mandrag Craig, which means Craig of the Legend of Retro.
Having just made it back onto the streets of Legend of Retro after a long stretch on the inside, TheGlitch is sent to Vice City by his old Boss, Craig_WK. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. TheGlitch is set up and loses everything. Craig wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want TheGlitch dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself. Oh, and Xander's here too.

To wrap up the episode, Chops and Craig_WK take a trip into the future for the music bracket.

For the Retro Relapse, the Glitch decided that Craig_WK needed to take a trip: but what horrifying things will he see on his journey? After finally making their way through electrified seaweed infested water, Xander and the Glitch chat about the very difficult Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES. Though Xander believes no single human being has ever completed this game (no matter how many speedrunning stats the Glitch throws at him), one thing is for sure, the music is amazing. On this week's episode of The Legend of Retro, Xander and TheGlitch are joined by Dale (AKA a20sidedninja) from the Super OK Podcast to talk about Super Metroid. Is this a perfect game? Is Screw Attack the greatest item? How do you pronounce Samus Aran? Retro Relapse is a little fishy (though not for long), and as always we check in on the Robot Master Stage Theme bracket. Full disclosure, this episode was recorded well over a month before you're hearing it and Xander has played a ton of Super Metroid since then and probably would have been better suited to host this episode now than he was last month. What a dweeb.

After, the duo goes back in time for a Retro Rewind for a subject near and dear to the host's hearts: grocery prices? To finish off the episode, we move on to our music bracket and is it Needle Man? Could it be Needle Man?? But what about Needle Man???

For the music bracket, we go on a journey under the sea!
With the ringing of the final bell of class, Chops, Craig_WK, and the Glitch head to their afterschool dodgeball club, only to find themselves getting roped into an international soccer tournament? This isn't just another sports game on the Nintendo, and I can't help but feel like those players look awfully familiar…Later, it wouldn't be a Retro Rewind without Craig talking about the history of East Germany, and to cap off the episode with the music bracket, we take you through a forest and then to a spooky castle!
This week, Chops, Craig_WK, and the Glitch dive into the Yoshi game that never was! Finally, during the music bracket, we see what happens when you throw a slinky into a whirlwind.
In this week's episode, what we have for you aren't heroes in the half shell: what we have is another band of lean, green characters on your video game screen. After smashing our controllers in sheer rage, BECAUSE OF THAT STUPID TURBO TUNNEL, we try to relax with a trip to the past, in June of ‘91. To wrap up the episode we consider a philosophical question: what's stronger? A flash of light in the gloom? Or the overwhelming power of darkness?
Happy Thanksgiving! It's time for the great American tradition of stuffing our faces with food, and watching horrifying mutants pummel each other into oblivion on the gridiron! After covering this classic but eccentric sports game, we look back at an even more retro football game for our relapse.
