Patreon.com/RememberTheGame And you can find Dan here: Dissect That Film: https://t.co/0ezBBtfu4c ManaWurm: https://t.co/CYEAbxBZP8 It's well known 'round these parts that I adore Mega Man X. But for some reason, I never really gave the first sequel the time of day. And after almost 7 years of podcasts, it's time to right that wrong. I finally played through it and damned if it isn't almost as good as it's older brother. It's the tried and true Mega formula: take down 8 evil robots, steal their weapons, save the world, and die a lot in the process. Like X, it's got those sexy 16-bit graphics, 'Mavericks' instead of robot masters (which are all very fucking cool), and you can still find those Dr. Light chambers to power up with. I think the only thing missing from X2, in my eyes at least, is the nostalgia I have for the first game. And even then, this one holds up just fine. This a great game. My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about his favourite MM game in X2. We work through the robot masters, Zero subplot, soundtrack, weapons, and basically just spend an hour fluffing the Blue Bomber. And before we save the world, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think a video game crash is coming? When will I review some more NES movie games? And if I could be one weapon tool, or accessory from a video game, what would I be? (The answer speaks to my character). Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! We have a game that feels like a classic Mega Man X game with a fresh coat of paint of what the Ps2 can do. We talk X8 and also rank the series. Come hear what we think of Mega Man X8. Before RTG is done, we'll have covered all 11 core Mega Man games. And this week we're tackling what I consider to the the most underrated of the bunch: Mega Man 7 for the SNES. I think MM7 gets overlooked for a couple reasons. After 6 NES games, I think people might have been a little burnt out on the tried-and-true Mega Man formula. And more importantly, the Super Nintendo was the home of Mega Man X, which many consider to be the greatest Mega Man game of all-time. If you haven't played this one, don't sleep on it. The graphics are great, the music rocks, and in reality this is just an NES Mega Man in 16-bit glory. And that's all I wanted it to be. Joining me this is is a fellow podcaster and Mega Man junkie, my pal Dan from the Dissect That Film and Manawurm podcasts. What we thought would be a shorter episode turned into an hour long Mega Man loveliest, as we went through all the levels in this, the various weapons, and the cheese that is the final Wily fight. If you like Mega Man, ya gotta give this one a listen. And before we go after Wily again, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I think I have a video game addiction? Will I ever review a Call of Duty on the show? And where the HELL is Silk Song!?!? X Dive is an- ahem, sorry. X DiVE is an interesting image of what Mega Man design might look like if the series had been continued to the current day. We spend a lot of both of these episodes talking about how the designs from the X series of games are so bad, but they cover a pretty specific period of time, and reflect the aesthetics of that era. Kind of. Frankly there was good design back then too, and I'm just making excuses. You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! X gonna give it to ya, or so I'm told. Today we make a surprising discovery- at least when considered with a mecha/robotic design eye, a lot of Mega Man's design is pretty... bad? These boys truly, truly don't know how to use color. There are some winners, don't get me wrong, but... yeesh. Not the best I've seen. Samus really puts X to shame. Also the X parasites, come to think of it. You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! Once a game series reaches a certain level of success, spinoffs are inevitable; some of them spawn their own franchises, like Mega Man X, while others rapidly fizzle into obscurity, like Mega Man Soccer. Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris finally get back to the Alphabet Soup-er Series with Ninja Gaiden for sEga Master System. This is NOT the same game as Ninja Gaiden for NES, or Ninja Gaiden the arcade game, or Ninja Gaiden for Game Gear. This is completely different, but somehow also not? It's certainly an interesting experience, but is it a good one? Listen on to find out! At the top of the show, Dan finally got a biopsy done, and then came right onto the show post-surgery, because he loves you! He also spent a bunch of time playing more Metroid games, and got back into Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, because he was just having so much fun watching The Acolyte! Meanwhile, Kris gives his impressions of Rocket Knight Re-Sparked, Satyrn DX, and Nintendo World Championships NES Edition. He also beat Mega Man X for funsies, and got a new record player. Finally, in Week Old News, the former head honcho of ScrewAttack decides to create what he's calling The Real Game Awards, Aero the Acrobat gets re-released all by itself for some reason, a bunch of unlocalised Starfy games show up on NSO, Gimmick 2 looks great, and more! At last, the glorious return of SNES Revival. This week, we take a super deep dive into Todd McFarlane's Spawn for the SNES. It's a short but memorable 2D platformer and beat 'em up hybrid that those who have played both Street Fighter and Mega Man X will feel right at home with. Big sprites, vivid visuals, interesting life systems, and even more unique powers translate very well from the moody inked pages of this tragic antihero to the 16-bit world of the SNES. We've also got a few news stories this week as we continue counting down to Summer Games Fest! Check us out on X and BlueSky @MarkersOnTheMap.

Hey everyone! This is a big episode for a lot of reasons. First of all, we're finally in 1994 (the biggest year for the SNES in terms of quantity of games released). Second, we're talking about one of our favorite games ever made. Third, this is our first “SNEScapades Special” of season two. Finally, and most importantly, we're talking with our good friend Trevor from Catching up on Cinema. Oh, it's also almost two hours long. For this new version of SNEScapades Special, we're letting our guest craft an episode by selecting any 3 Super NES games to talk about. So before we get to Megaman X, Trevor gives us a bit of a lesson on one of the Super Scope games (which we haven't really been able to engage with) and helps us find a place on our list for Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge. We also talk about Knights of the Round, an interesting and fun little brawler that was ported to the SNES from arcades in which you play as King Arthur and various other famous Knights of the Round. Lots of swords, big guys in armor, and moonwalking horses await. Finally, it's time to discuss Megaman X. We talk about it a lot! I don't feel the need to write much here, other than to say, we like this one and we really enjoyed talking with Trevor about all the things we loved about this game. We hope you enjoy this special, and remember if you're a content creator and want to join us for a SNEScapades Special of your own, reach out!

Hey everyone! It's a new Playing With Power episode. This one is very special, not just because we're finally in 1994, not just because Megaman X is on the cover, but because this is a big ol' bonus issue. Which means Chase and Emmy have a LOT to talk about. Megaman X is a huge game for the duo and is going to give them plenty to talk about by itself. But the duo also find time to discuss some other game features that they haven't gotten to play yet, let Flashback and Claymates. Both of these games are built on the legacies of other games made by their respective studios. Only time will tell if either of them lived up to their spiritual predecessors. We got Soldiers of Fortune, Bugs Bunny, Ninja Turtles, Classified Information, solitaire, a really cute Mario & Wario comic, and some forbidden knowledge in the form of games that never made it over to America.

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on Relic Entertainment's Homeworld. We talk about the difficulty of a couple of the missions, how our RTS expectations maybe work against us, and fighting the camera. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Through MS10 (Tim) or MS12 (Brett) Issues covered: religious experiences, Defeating Games for Charity, dynamic difficulty, scuttling vs recycling, trading off the unit types you have for the ones you need right now, dynamic difficulty, being too clever with difficulty design, the usefulness of playtesting different skill levels, having the wrong guess of how many units you need, reactionary play or more in the moment, a puzzle-solving feel, a lot of empty time and strange pacing, getting over the hump, being unable to plan, fighting the 3D nature for probes, trailblazing but not quite getting there, wanting help from the game for 3D targeting, fighting the orientation, wondering about the upcoming sequel for usability, digressions into the lore, T-Rex predators, the inventory of Trespasser, whether we should play more weird bad good games, which games fit that definition. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Mark Garcia, BioStats, Artimage, Calamity Nolan, Kaeon, Kyle, Bvron, Final Fantasy IX, MegaMan X, Grand Theft Auto III, Devil May Cry, MegaMan 2, Dark Souls, Far Cry 2, Rogue, X-COM, Julian Gollop, Deus Ex, Starcraft, Blizzard, Civilization, Tomb Raider, Mario 64, Halo, GoldenEye 007, Nintendo, Trespasser, Maas, mysterydip, Jarkko Sivula, Ryan Troock, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Shenmue, Deadly Premonition, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers. On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation podcast, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Mark Medina and Jada Griffin to travel back in time to the days of the PS1, and reminisce about the PS1 games we loved and want to see added to the new PS Plus lineup. While we know plenty of games from the era have received remasters and remakes, we dip into franchises like Ape Escape, Brave Fencer Musashi, Mega Man X, Tomba, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy, Digimon, Crash Bandicoot, and more for what we'd like to see added to the lineup. We discuss why we loved the games we did, what games we missed out on that we also want added so we can complete our historical knowledge of PlayStation's original console, and call out a number of picks from the Podcast Beyond community. Then, Jonathon speaks with Ian Campbell and Graham Smith from Drinkbox Studios to discuss Drinkbox's Nobody Saves the World making the jump to PS4 and PS5 this week, what players can expect, and Drnikbox's PlayStation lineage. After that, Jonathon, Jada and Mark discuss some of the news of the week, including Kingdom Hearts 4's reveal, The Witcher 3's PS5 delay, and more, plus a Memory Card story of a particularly enterprising PlayStation player.
