BGMania B-Sides #49 of BGMania: A Video Game Music Podcast. Today on the show, Bedroth turns his attention to Terranigma, the beloved Super Nintendo action RPG developed by Quintet and published by Enix. Requested and curated by Executive Producer Xancu, this episode celebrates one of the most cherished hidden gems of the 16-bit era. While Terranigma never received an official North American release, its ambitious storytelling, memorable world-building, and emotional soundtrack have earned it a passionate following among RPG fans for decades. As the penultimate installment of the B-Sides series before it reaches its conclusion with Episode #50, this episode serves as both a tribute to a remarkable game and a reminder of the many overlooked soundtracks that have found a home on the show. Composed by Miyoko Takaoka and Masanori Hikichi, Terranigma's music effortlessly captures the wonder of creation, the weight of loss, and the excitement of exploration through a diverse collection of melodies that remain just as powerful today as they were in 1995. Email the show at bgmaniapodcast@gmail.com with requests for upcoming episodes, questions, feedback, comments, concerns, or any other thoughts you'd like to share! Special thanks to our Executive Producers: Jexak, Xancu, Jeff & Mike.

Day, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Alien: Isolation 2, gen ATLAS, Stranger Than Heaven, Mortal Shell II, Chronicles: Medieval, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, , End of Abyss, Mouse: P.I. for Hire, , Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, ARC Raiders, Dune: Awakening, Chrono Odyssey, Mio: Memories in Orbit, Out of Words, TMNT: The Last Ronin, The Wolf Among Us 2, Star Wars: Zero Company, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, Control Resonant, God of War: Laufey, Marvel's Wolverine, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Grounded 2. Posibles novedades relacionadas con Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Libertad absoluta. Eventos arcade. Primeras impresiones de Yoshi and the Mysterious Book El otro gran análisis del episodio gira alrededor de Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Un nuevo RPG basado en The Lord of the Rings desarrollado por Warhorse Studios. Donkey Kong Bananza. Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Kirby Air Riders. Pokopia. No hubo tráiler, no hubo imágenes y no hubo fecha nueva. In this episode of The Jonathan Wier Show, Jonathan and co-host Cody Akins tackle the upcoming NFL schedule release (Thursday, May 14th at 7 PM CT) and debate which team they want the Chiefs to open against. Cody wants the Jets for an easy motivational win, but Jonathan argues for the Seahawks — repossess their banner on banner night and give Kenneth Walker his revenge game. The conversation pivots to a bigger problem: the NFL is becoming the world's biggest mall. With games now scattered across Netflix, Peacock, Prime, Paramount+, YouTube, and Netflix again, Jonathan argues the league is sacrificing its big-box-store accessibility for greed. He doesn't mind games on different days — but the fragmentation across paid services is going to cost them casual fans. The guys then debate the Star Fox 64 remake for Switch 2. Cody is genuinely excited (and hopeful it signals an Ocarina of Time remake for Zelda's 40th anniversary). Jonathan sees it as another nostalgia trap — Nintendo knows aging millennials will buy it no matter how much they complain, the same playbook George Lucas ran with the Star Wars Special Editions in the '90s. They close on tech policy: Utah trying to ban VPNs (unenforceable and ignores how cellular IPs work), and Meta rolling out AI age verification because kids are bypassing checks with mustaches, hats, haircuts, and makeup. Jonathan's takeaway — parents need to stop delegating parenting to the government. Talk to your kids. Block sites on your router. Do the work.

Mario must be ready to face the podcast ahead of him. Welcome back to the podcast! Today, we're talking about Super Mario World. Undeniably one of the most iconic games on the Super Nintendo, if you are involved in the platformer space at all, you will see Super Mario World come up pretty much every day. This more than any other game defined what 2D platformers could be throughout the 90s, and it's a very easy game to look back on because of just how refined it is in terms of level design and control. I don't think there's too much more that needs to be explained about one of the most well known games of all time, We're going to be talking about polish vs. innovation and which parts of this game you find by tracing back its legacy, the iconic presentational elements of this game like its music and credits sequence, and we pitch yet another way Nintendo could improve Pokémon Snap for some reason. Thank you for joining us again this week! Obviously this is a very old and well regarded game, so we're hoping that having a new player will give us a fresh perspective on it 36 years down the line from its original release. I highlighted this as one of my top 100 games on our 10th anniversary, but is this a title you have a particular history with? Are you way too young to be playing games that are pushing 40? Let us know over on our Discord or in the comments! Next time, we begin Mystery May, where we let fate decide which episodes we are doing and for the first roll this month came up Fez! So we hope you'll join us for that and to find out which game gets randomly decided on during that episode. We are absolutely dripping with tension this month.

Nintendo cuts console shipments, Epic Games lays off 1,000 employees, John and Ryan build an Elite 8 of gaming's best consoles, and Yo! Noid hits the Inflation Deflation hot seat. This week on The Game Deflators, John and Ryan dive into one of the most turbulent news cycles the gaming industry has seen in months. Things kick off with Nintendo's decision to reduce console shipments, a move tied to a cooling global video game market. From there, the conversation turns to the week's biggest shockwave: Epic Games laying off 1,000 employees.  Then it's time for the main event: The Elite 8 Console Bracket. John and Ryan pit generations of iconic hardware—from the SNES and Sega Genesis to the PS2, Xbox 360, and PS3—against each other in a heated showdown to determine which system truly defined gaming greatness. Expect nostalgia, debate, and a few upsets. To wrap things up, the Inflation Deflation Challenge returns with a retro twist as the guys revisit Yo! Noid on the NES. Join me and Ted Atchley as we dive into one of my favorite topics: video games as storytelling devices. My first gaming system was an Atari. After that came the NES, then the Super Nintendo, and from there the long march of consoles and PCs that many of us grew up with. Back in those early days, games weren't really about storytelling. They were about chasing high scores, beating the next level, or figuring out the pattern that finally let you defeat the boss that had been destroying you for the last hour.We chat about the games that made us think, made us care about the characters, and sometimes even hit a little harder emotionally than we expected. We'll be swapping memories, comparing favorites, and probably going down a few nostalgic rabbit holes along the way. Because if you've been gaming long enough, there are always a few titles that left a permanent mark—games that proved storytelling in games can be just as powerful as anything in books or film.So if you're into games, storytelling, or just enjoy listening to a couple of geeky dads talk about the things they love, come hang out with us

Back in the early to mid 90s, when a popular movie was turned into a video game, that game was often released for both of the 16-bit systems that dominated console gaming of the day. This meant that whether you owned a Super Nintendo or a SEGA Genesis you'd be able to snag a copy and play! The thing is, in those days, these licensed games would often involve completely separate developers for each system, leading to a pair of games that were actually, nothing alike! Tonight, with the help of our pal Aldo Aroujo, we will be talking about 16-bit licensed games that did just that! A single property that resulted in two totally different games... one for the SNES and one for the Genesis/Megadrive. Sure, the debate over which variation on a beloved theme was major fuel for the fires tended by partisan gamers of the day, but those days are long gone. Heck, we're gonna play 'em all! Games are supposed to be fun — so what happens when the logic of games, points and competition escapes the playground and starts reshaping everyday life? The novelist and games-writer Naomi Alderman and her guests explore how the joy of play collides with the pressures of a gamified society.Philosopher C Thi Nguyen introduces The Score, his examination of how ranking systems and numerical targets can both sharpen and warp our values, revealing how life becomes less playful when everything is reduced to points.Journalist and critic Keza MacDonald discusses Super Nintendo, her cultural history of the iconic console, tracing how its games, aesthetics and innovations transformed the medium and helped define what play means for generations of players. The Financial Times' commentator Stephen Bush examines the growing role of games and game like incentives in public life, exploring how the techniques of play — from reward structures to competitive framing — are reshaping political behaviour and communication.Producer: Katy Hickman

What happens when the "move fast and break things" start-up philosophy comes for infertility treatments? Exactly what you'd expect: cut corners, bad service, aesthetically pleasing offices that can't seem to stop churning staff, upsells backed by dubious science, and more. This week, journalist Jackie Davalos joins the pod to talk about her reporting on IVF start-up Kindbody, breaking down why so many of these women's health start-ups give us the ick... and also answer all your questions about sketchy IVF business practices. I cannot tell you how much I learned from this episode — and how wild it is to have this corner of health care remain this unregulated. If you're not in the right place to listen to other people's complications with IVF, feel free to skip this episode — but if you want to get pissed about how difficult, weird, and opaque the process can be, definitely listen to this episode. Finally, a special thanks to Culture Study reader & listener Shawn Wen for making this episode happen. AND GREAT NEWS: WE HAVE VERY GOOD EPISODE TRANSCRIPTS NOW! Before the start of My Perfect Console's fourth season, we revisit a classic early episode with the reclusive game designer, Phil Fish.Phil studied game design in Montreal and, after a brief stint working at Ubisoft, left to begin work on a game of his own, a platformer that combined the art style of the Super Nintendo classics of his youth, with perspective-shifting innovations of his own.Six years in the making, Fez launched in 2012 to near universal acclaim, part of the first wave of so-called indie games. After featuring heavily in the film documentary Indie Game: the Movie, my guest, who is passionately outspoken, became the subject of co-ordinated online attacks, which culminated in his retreat from public platforms, nearly a decade ago.Become a My Perfect Console supporter and receive a range of benefits at www.patreon.com/myperfectconsoleTake the Acast listener survey to help shape the show: My Perfect Console with Simon Parkin Survey 2025 Hosted on Acast.
