In this completely off-the-cuff episode, I address some of the concerns that may have built up around The Sound Test in the past month or so. It's not all serious though, as pretty much all of this is the usual serving of VGM goodness, tinged with a little optimistic looking ahead. It's been a tough time for the show, and myself lately, and I've occasionally posted some rather daft things that I regret. But, we're all surviving through a worldwide pandemic, and here I try to put a lot of that behind me and just get on with the game music glory.Despite the fact that NONE of this show was planned, I hope you enjoy it!This week's playlist:The Vogon Hold - Lee Tyrrell [Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (One-Night VGM, Vol. 2)]In Space (Metal Twolegs Remix) - Jeroen Tel [The Sound of SceneSat, Vol. 2]Max Returns - Rod Thacker [The Sound of SceneSat, Vol. 1]Magical Sound Shower (from "Outrun") - Chris Abbott [Arcade Classics, Vol. 1]Battle! Fighting games have come a long way from throwing down a quarter to call next on the overly crowded Street Fighter II cabinet at the local pizza restaurant. Fortunately for us, the accessibility of fighting games are as close as going to your local arcade, video game shop, or the comfort of your own home. either being on the sidelines watching or actually taking place between an intense and riveting face-off between a game of street fighter, tekken or king of fighters, fighting games are one of gaming’s most celebrated and passionate genres. So this stage of the Retro VGM revival hour we again return to test our reflexes and skills against the most decorated of opponents in this episode Dedicated to some amazing Fighting game music tracks. ========Game - Composer - Title - Year - Company - System==== 1.) The inescapable drumbeat of change has caught up with Train Station at 8 and now-- if you will pardon the pun-- it's time to face the music. The soundtracks of some game series stagnate over decades while others can't help but to reinvent themselves at every turn, so we brought Episode 1 veteran Jayson Napolitano on board to help dig into this reality and what it means for us all. You can catch up with Jayson on Twitter (via his company or personal account) and, of course, visit the highly classy Scarlet Moon Productions website. How did you like this episode? If the answer is "lots" then consider following Train Station at 8 on Twitter and subscribing on iTunes, or maybe send an email to TrainStationAt8@gmail.com. Hearing from you would make our collective day!The 8 Questions:1. What have you been listening to?2. What are some game series that haven’t changed much musically?3. What are some game series that are now musically unrecognizable from their origins?4. What tends to be your reaction to changing styles?5. What are some of your favorite dramatic shifts in a series’ music style?6. What do you think about shifting styles/consistency in a single game?7. What are some series that need a new direction?8. What have you been working on?Music used in this episode:KK Podcasting (Train Station at 8 Theme) - Bryan KellyTemple of the Sky - ErutanRoads to Anywhere - ArglePeach's House Party - Sir JordaniusPerilous Pathway - NutritiousRiver of Life - Adam SkorupaTravelling Theme - Jake KaufmanUnblessed Soul - Akitaka TohyamaOrdinary Pain - Asuka SakaiBlind Loyalty - Ryuichi TakadaPhantasmagoria - Junichi NakatsuruAmid the Pure Insanity - Hiroki KikutaIce Cap Zone Act 1 - We don't even know anymoreMechanical Resonance... for Final Egg - Kenichi TokoiBloody Tears - Taro Kudou / Masanori AdachiBelmont's Theme - Oscar AraujoGotta Stay Fly - Rio HamamotoPlains of Eternity - JoelleThe Woods of Light - Eric ChevalierThirty Seconds Out - Ramin DjawadiInto Free - B'zUnknown From M.E. - Marlon Saunders, Dread Fox
