Halle Berry plays a 911 operator who's traumatized by a distress call gone wrong, and aims to redeem herself when the suspect in question strikes again. Though the film itself has real emotional highs that have you on the edge of your seat for most of the ride, by the time it pulls into the final act it's completely lost steam and you're left wondering why you even watched it in the first place. When a quiet, rookie detective shows signs of supernatural powers, she's immedietely tasked with solving a serial murder case that's gone cold for some time...she'll find out soon enough however that she's closer to the case than she thinks.
On the surface, VIVARIUM can be just a straight-forward horror movie involving a couple who gets stranded in a strange, dystopian neighbourhood with no way out. Underneath however, is a commentary on capitalism and dying to live in a world that gives you a false hope that if you just work hard enough...you'll make it out.

It's fair to say that when it comes to classic trilogies, FRIDAY AFTER NEXT is at the top of any melonated household's list, especially around the holidays. Though some of the more prominent themes of the film like homophobia and pimping do NOT age well in today's climate, what's left over after you scrub your eyes still holds up in the vein of ridiculousness.
