We tried. We tried our best to find some small piece of enjoyment in Dennis Dugan's bafflingly misguided I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK & LARRY, a film about two straight firefighters (played by Adam Sandler & Kevin James) who decide to get married in order to deal with some uncomfortable pension-related paperwork. Overstuffed with pitiful racist, sexist and homophobic stereotypes, it's - even worse - completely unfunny, and has a horribly confused message at its core. Yeesh. Anyway, we get angry about that, but there's also plenty of chat about the ongoing writer/actor strike, and - of course - all the latest Steve Buscemi news. CHECK IT OUT, JERKS. The post Episode 182 – How Do You Do, Fellow Kids? – I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007) first appeared on Cinema Smorgasbord.

This week, for the podcast's three-year birthday, after threatening to do it for so long, we decided to torture ourselves by watching the Kevin James and Adam Sandler movie I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. That's right we sat through every minute of this TWO HOUR LONG movie (that's about an hour and a half of fat jokes) so that you don't have to. CONTENT WARNING: This movie uses sexual assault as a punchline a lot, and we discuss the movie doing that. Topics discussed: The many better scripts of Alexander Payne What's the deal with Nick Swardson? Fellas, is it gay to have good hip flexibility? We Read Movies This podcast is hosted by ZenCast.fm

This week on Saturday Night Jive we're talking about the 1992 comedy Brain Donors. There are no SNL alum in this film but it was directed by Dennis Dugan who after watching Problem Child, Beverly Hills Ninja, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, You Don't Mess With The Zohan, Grown Ups, Jack And Jill, and Grown Ups 2 feels like an honorary member of our family. This is a "remake" of The Marx Brothers film A Night At The Opera (with a little bit of A Day At The Races thrown in) starring John Turturro, the guy who ran the torture machine in The Princess Bride, and some other dude as analogs for Groucho, Chico and Harpo. It's an odd movie with a few decent gags but you're ultimately left with the feeling of "why didn't I just watch a Marx Brothers movie?". If we didn't have enough to talk about with this oddity we also discuss Damien Chazelle's Babylon featuring SNL alum Chloe Fineman in a small role. It's one of our favorite films of 2022 that has an ending that left us both stumped. Steve Stanulis began his career as a decorated NYPD officer. When he was injured on the job, Steve worked security for a number of A-list celebrities, such as Leonardo DiCaprio. His A-list clients suggested that Steve pursue an acting career, and after studying at Manhattan's HB Studios, he was cast in The Replacements and Gangs of New York. As a working actor, Stanulis appeared in major studio movies (The Interpreter, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry), acclaimed indie films (Cupidity, Over the GW), and TV shows (The Sopranos, the new HBO series The Deuce). He also branched into production, starring in and producing the short films Dick & Jane and Because of You, and the award-winning feature The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch. In 2012, Steve Stanulis founded Stanulis Productions, Inc., with the feature film Long Shot Louie, starring Jake Robinson (The Carrie Diaries), winning Best Drama at the Williamsburg Film Festival. The film is available on Amazon Prime. Steve then created the Off-Broadway play Stripped, based on his experiences as a Chippendale dancer. Acclaimed in the New York Times, it was picked up by Planet Hollywood for a successful run on the Las Vegas strip. Steve continued pursuing his acting career, with co-starring credits in Aftermath with Tony Danza and Anthony Michael Hall, Darkroom with Elizabeth Rohm, Sam executive produced by Mel Brooks, and American Fango which was the winner of a dozen Best Feature awards and set for Sony/Vision Films release in November 2017. Steve also starred in and produced the comedy-drama The Networker, co-starring William Forsythe, Sean Young and Stephen Baldwin. It was directed by indie icon and frequent Stanulis collaborator John Gallagher and released in September 2017 by Sony's The Orchard. Making three consecutive films (Sam, American Fango, The Networker) acquired by Sony companies in less than a year is a truly unique achievement. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steven-cuoco/support

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry...tries. Maybe the characters are so TERRIBLE at first to highlight how they change to become "better" people by the end. But are you really a better person if you finally address society's homophobia and your own internalized homophobia, if you realized it's bad *only* because it happened to you?...Maybe that's a little deep for this "film," but that's just one of the ethical questions this movie raises.

Episode Notes Jess & Alex watch I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and discuss the unfortunate reality of this movie in today's world vs the positive message from 13 years ago, how talking to just one LGBTQ+ person would have made this movie great, and how the state has always been against marginalized populations. We also glimpse into our Schneider-laden future. Also, is the era of Kevin James an era of wholesomeness? Probably not! @LaughatHimPod Jess- @Jawska Alex- @KittyCrusade This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Award season ends with an awful film that garnered no nomination except for Razzies, but under the original Writer/Director could have been a very different movie. Scott welcomes Christopher Brown back to talk about "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry." They talk about the original script being a dramedy focused more on drama, and how the original Director, Alexander Payne was gaslighted by Happy Madison. All that and Scott makes up a stupid song. About 8 minutes into the episode, there's a chopping sound that persists throughout the episode. We apologize and hope it's not too distracting. On the bright side, we were joined by Mike's brother Kevin for this episode! It was a delight to have him in the studio with us and look forward to bringing him back at some point in the future. Today we are so fortunate to be talking to the Director of blockbuster comedies such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Liar Liar, The Nutty Professor, Bruce Almighty, Patch Adams, Accepted , and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and the winner of four people's choice awards, and one Golden Globe nomination. But, you might ask, why would Authentic Living be interested in comedies? Because due to his own personal life crisis, Tom Shadyac's latest project is a documentary called I AM, in which he travels the world to ask some of the world's most profound thinkers, these two questions: What is wrong with the world and what can we do about it? This film won two awards at its premiere at the Mountain Film Festival in Telluride, CO, the Audience Choice Award and the Student Choice Award. And it has the potential of advancing the evolution of global consciousness exponentially. So, you are not going to want to miss this discussion about it. Tune in.

Lainie Kazan, who many loved from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," guests stints on "The Nanny," and now on "Desperate Housewives," makes an appearance on BuzzWorthy Radio! Lainie made her Broadway debut in The Happiest Girl in the World in 1961 followed by Bravo Giovanni (1962). She served as understudy to Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl, finally getting to go on 18 months into the run when the star was felled by a serious throat problem. Coincidentally, both had attended the same high school, Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York. Kazan's mother alerted the press and, encouraged by rave reviews for her performance, she quit the show and set out to establish herself in a singing career. As her popularity increased, Kazan posed nude for a spread in the October 1970 issue of Playboy, which was reused in Pocket Playboy #4, issued in 1974. Her appearance in the magazine opened the door for her to headline and operate two different Playboy Jazz Clubs, both under Hugh Hefner's overview, which she called Lainie's Lounge East and West on opposite coasts, one in Los Angeles and the other in Manhattan. Her Playboy photographs also inspired the look of Jack Kirby's DC Comics superheroine Big Barda. Kazan appeared in numerous supper clubs across the country, and she guested on Dean Martin's variety series 26 times. Other television work includes a recurring role as Aunt Freida on the Fran Drescher sitcom The Nanny and as Kirstie Alley's mother on Veronica's Closet, and guest shots on St. Elsewhere (resulting in an Emmy nomination), The Paper Chase, Touched by an Angel, and Will & Grace. She was also featured in My Big Fat Greek Life, a short-lived series based on the Nia Vardalos hit film My Big Fat Greek Wedding, in which she had also starred alongside Vardalos. She appeared in a scene as the mother of Adam Sandler's character in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, but it was deleted in the feature film. It is, however, included in the special features on disc.
