Carey Chen is a world-traveled marine artist and lifelong fisherman who turned a passion for blue water into a career—painting billfish from memory and chasing giants with some of the best crews on earth. Born in Los Angeles to Jamaican parents, raised in Jamaica, and later based in Miami, Carey went from motorcycles and video stores to fishing tournaments across the Caribbean, licensing deals, and live painting at world-class events. In this conversation, we get into how a first sailfish on a kite lit the fuse, why sonar is changing offshore fishing (and why he thinks it'll soon be on every boat), what it's like to fish with the Bad Company program, and how a lifetime of travel turned into 3,000+ paintings “stuck in his head.” Some of the moments I found most meaningful in this conversation were: The first sailfish on a kite off Miami—and how one fish can change your life From fisherman to painter: leaving retail, painting live, and getting “discovered” at boat shows Fishing the world with Bad Company: Mag Bay marlin numbers that sound impossible until you see them The sonar debate: why new tech doesn't replace skill—but rewards crews who master it Big-fish mindset: chasing granders, tagging programs, and letting the big breeders go Seychelles, Cape Verde, Madeira: what “no-pressure” fisheries really feel like Growing up around legends—boxing promoters, Bob Marley, and the value of giving back through art Timestamps 00:00 Intro & who is Carey Chen 01:35 Jamaica → Miami → first sailfish on a kite 05:10 From fisherman to artist: the boat show breakthrough 10:42 Touring the Caribbean tournaments & live painting 15:28 Bad Company stories: Mag Bay marlin madness 21:40 Sonar, strategy, and the “is it cheating?” debate 28:05 Chasing granders: Africa, Cape Verde, Madeira 34:20 Seychelles & the magic of low-pressure fisheries 40:55 Flats talk: triggers, bumpheads, bonefish, Andros 47:10 Art from memory: anatomy, light, and getting it right 52:25 Business today: licensing, dropship, 3,000+ pieces 57:30 Growing up around champions & giving back 1:02:10 Final thoughts on passion → profession

Kāinga Ora is under fire after Wellington's Dixon Street Flats were re-sold for almost triple the price. The Government housing agency initially sold the flats to Taranaki Whanui earlier this year for just over $1 million. Nearly three weeks later, the flats had been re-sold to a prominent Wellington developer for $3 million - a move Kāinga Ora has gone on to defend. Wellington City Councillor Ben McNulty says this won't be good for the taxpayers - but the opportunity cost of potentially bartering for ages was higher. "From a Wellington perspective, we're just glad to see something happening." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What happens when a kid from Ashland, Oregon, stumbles across a trail of fresh, giant footprints in the snow — complete with visible toes — deep in the logging roads of Elderberry Flats? In this intense and revealing episode, we sit down with David Boozer, creator of PacWest Bigfoot and Where Bigfoot Roams, as he recounts his own chilling encounters from southern Oregon. From blood-curdling screams near Hyatt Lake to a midnight tent-shaking creek crossing at Elderberry Flat, these stories aren't secondhand — they're personal, vivid, and terrifying. You'll hear how a childhood curiosity turned into a lifelong pursuit, why Southern Oregon might be one of the wildest Bigfoot hotspots in America, and how one family's brush with the unexplained still echoes through the woods.  On this episode of Women on the Line we chat with 44 Flats United (44FU) are a group of residents, former residents and supporters of public housing, organising against the Victorian State Government's decision to demolish the 44 high-rise commission flats and a growing number of walkups across Narrm (Melbourne). They are guided by the principle that not one person should be left worse off because of this government's decision to demolish their homes, that public housing needs to be defended and protected for current residents and future generations to come and that on the unceded sovereign land of First Peoples, no decisions should be made about the sale or leasing of public land until Treaties with First Peoples have been negotiated and finalised. We hear from R-Coo Tran, leader of 44 FU and Thi, a Vietnamese woman living in a housing estate in Richmond. We chat about the major problems with the estate demolition plan, what impact this is having on residents and how 44FU is organising on this campaign. Please note that parts of the conversation are in Vietnamese and have been translated and edited for brevity.

The situation has got so bad, some are even leaving their flats altogether to move into vans and cars to sleep. The student's association has said a recent survey shows some students are resorting to sleeping rough. Bella Craig reports.

There are calls for a Rental Warrant of Fitness to ensure student flats in North Dunedin are actually complying with Healthy Homes Standards. Since July 1, the standards set out minimum requirements for heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture and drainage - and all rental properties are supposed to be up to scratch. But some students at Otago Uni have said their flats are not only in appalling condition but issues like mould are making them sick, as some landlords carry out the healthy homes checks themselves. Bella Craig reports.

Vomit up the walls, buckets of faeces on the lawn and damp and mouldy inside. These are just some things students are confronted with in their North Dunedin flats. The local students association calls the area a "slum" and says some landlords don't even both checking if a property is habitable before they hand the keys over to the next set of tenants. Students have told Checkpoint the state of their accommodation has been having serious effects on their physical and mental health, and their studies. Bella Craig reports.

For an estimated 5 million Americans, every beat of their heart can be heard in their ears as a constant "whooshing" sound making it difficult to sleep or concentrate and contributing to anxiety and depression. The condition is known as pulsatile tinnitus or P-T. Those who treat people with P-T say the condition can go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to its rarity and the difficulty in determining the underlying cause. On Wednesday's “Sound of Ideas” we will meet a local woman who developed the condition and the doctor who used a surgical procedure to help reduce most, but not all of the noise she was hearing. Also on the show, up first, we talk about the current labor dispute at a locally owned coffee chain and the recent closure of a café in Lakewood. Why are coffee shops currently flashpoints in the larger discussion regarding worker's and unionization? Finally, the Tennis in the Land tournament returns this weekend to the Flats. The tournament is now in its fifth year and brings to Cleveland some of the up and coming stars of the professional women's tennis tour. We'll talk to the tournament director about this year's event and plans.

The guys focus on the incredible tarpon bite, with migrating schools of silver kings showing up in big numbers to crash the bait pods along the beaches. They share key insights on tactics, tides, and the best areas to find them. Plus, they cover the fantastic action for redfish and snook that are taking full advantage of the bait-rich environment. Hold onto your Fendi tags and your Zaddy energy, because Reza Farahan is in the boutique and the tea is steeped in Persian opulence! On this glitzy, hilarious, and wildly unfiltered sit-down when the Shahs of Sunset icon turns up the charm—and the shade. From BravoCon buzz to Beverly Hills realness, no subject is off limits. We kick things off with a love fest over interior wellness drinks and a lunch at Novikov that blossomed into a newfound friendship. Reza spills about Persian parties, being raised in a house filled with constant entertaining, and why he avoids some Beverly Hills events—something Pol' totally relates to from his Armenian background. And the chumps? Yes, Jeff Lewis gets a name drop, and the Billboard moment in NYC lights up the convo. The fashion talk hits hard when Reza reveals he's got racks of unworn designer looks (hello, $1500 silk shirts!)—but no, he's not donating them, honey. Those pieces are headed to BravoCon. Sorry, Pol', no couture hand-me-downs this time. They also reminisce about Yours, Mine & Ours and the hilarious, never-picked-up Persian Home Conversion pitch, complete with dead taxidermy and diamond water yoga. And yes, we want that show! Then it's all about SnowWhite90210 and the upcoming SnowBuBu dolls—yes, changeable bows, crowns, and even a recorded growl. The merch madness is real, and Patrik's hoping it'll buy him a house in the Flats. The convo dives deep into relationships: Reza shares about his decade-long marriage to husband Adam (14 years total!), their love of travel, and plans for a milestone anniversary trip or bash. We find out Adam's a chill, homebody Gemini while Reza is the social butterfly (and low-key Zaddy to their adorable dog, Marty). The episode explores balance in relationships, how opposites attract, and what it's like to be in the public eye with a partner who isn't about the spotlight. Then… the infamous coffee reading. Pol' picks up on some seriously spooky truths: Reza's planning a massive home renovation, which—shockingly—he hasn't told anyone publicly. He's floored as Pol' accurately senses energy shifts, spiritual anchors, and even a mysterious, sacred presence tied to the longtime previous homeowner. It's not a ghost, but it's definitely a vibe. Reza confirms it all—including a hidden hook with a “key to the safe” he found under a vanity drawer. Wild! The real estate talk turns educational as Reza drops wisdom from his Iranian family legacy and gives two golden rules: never lease and never pay credit card interest. Patrik confesses he's breaking both. There's also a juicy story about selling his husband's G-Wagon behind his back. (He thought it was just in for service. Spoiler: it wasn't.) From Gemini exes to Cartier rings, Van Cleef to juice cleanses, and even Patrik & Pol's 22-year love story and 89-country travel tradition—this episode is equal parts glam, LOL, heart, and hustle. And yes, Reza may or may not be filming for a top-secret show (Valley Persian Style?), but his wardrobe's ready for the spotlight, even if he can't confirm a thing. BravoCon, dolls, coffee grounds, and home makeovers—it's all happening. ✨ Don't miss Part 2—it only gets juicier.

In a new exhibition, Chicago's Floating Museum pays homage to Bronzeville's Mecca Flats through its Floating Monuments series. Built in 1892 as a hotel for visitors to the World's Fair, the Mecca Flats was later converted into apartments that served Chicago's African American community on the South Side. But by the 1950s, the building was demolished to make way for the Illinois Institute of Technology's S.R. Crown Hall. Now, the Floating Museum is honoring the Mecca Flats' contribution to Chicago's culture with an inflatable replica of the apartment building. Reset examines the history of the Mecca, the legacy of urban renewal and the displacement of Black residents with Faheem Majeed, artist and co-director of the Floating Museum, and Rebekah Coffman, curator of religion and community history architecture at the Chicago History Museum.
