The Pedalshift Project: Bicycle Touring Podcast

What was supposed to be a triumphant border crossing and final push from Niagara Falls back to the starting point became something entirely different when family health concerns required an immediate pivot. But sometimes the best laid plans need to be set aside for what actually matters, and day six became about completing the ride in the way it was always meant to end - with a proper beginning and a proper finish, both by bike, both connected to the places and people that made this whole adventure meaningful in the first place. This Week's Northwest Florida Fishing Report is Live! We've got a special roundtable episode this week, bringing in local experts Angelo De Paola, Joseph Baya, and Blake Nelson to break down all things inshore fishing. The big story right now is the massive amount of "greenies" (greenback baitfish) stacked up on the flats and in the passes, and the gamefish are in a feeding frenzy. The guys focus on the incredible tarpon bite, with migrating schools of silver kings showing up in big numbers to crash the bait pods along the beaches. They share key insights on tactics, tides, and the best areas to find them. Plus, they cover the fantastic action for redfish and snook that are taking full advantage of the bait-rich environment. Whether you're looking for one last shot at a tarpon or want to cash in on the best inshore bite of the summer, this episode has everything you need for a successful weekend on the water.   Sponsors Fishbites Dixie Supply and Baker Metal Killerdock Test Calibration Coastal Connection EXP Realty Great Days Outdoors Hilton's Realtime Navigator Bucks Island Marine AFTCO Sea Tow Shoreline Plastics Return Em Right Southeastern Pond Management Pure Flats Admiral Shellfish

Transitioning from from the peaceful Toronto Island back into the  urban sprawl of southern Ontario is a bit of a record scratch I'll more thoroughly experience when I eventually ride this ride, but a fast forward to a stunning Niagara Falls hotel leads to an extensive e-bike exploration of the Niagara River and Falls area. Hold onto your Fendi tags and your Zaddy energy, because Reza Farahan is in the boutique and the tea is steeped in Persian opulence! On this glitzy, hilarious, and wildly unfiltered sit-down when the Shahs of Sunset icon turns up the charm—and the shade. From BravoCon buzz to Beverly Hills realness, no subject is off limits. We kick things off with a love fest over interior wellness drinks and a lunch at Novikov that blossomed into a newfound friendship. Reza spills about Persian parties, being raised in a house filled with constant entertaining, and why he avoids some Beverly Hills events—something Pol' totally relates to from his Armenian background. And the chumps? Yes, Jeff Lewis gets a name drop, and the Billboard moment in NYC lights up the convo. The fashion talk hits hard when Reza reveals he's got racks of unworn designer looks (hello, $1500 silk shirts!)—but no, he's not donating them, honey. Those pieces are headed to BravoCon. Sorry, Pol', no couture hand-me-downs this time. They also reminisce about Yours, Mine & Ours and the hilarious, never-picked-up Persian Home Conversion pitch, complete with dead taxidermy and diamond water yoga. And yes, we want that show! Then it's all about SnowWhite90210 and the upcoming SnowBuBu dolls—yes, changeable bows, crowns, and even a recorded growl. The merch madness is real, and Patrik's hoping it'll buy him a house in the Flats. The convo dives deep into relationships: Reza shares about his decade-long marriage to husband Adam (14 years total!), their love of travel, and plans for a milestone anniversary trip or bash. We find out Adam's a chill, homebody Gemini while Reza is the social butterfly (and low-key Zaddy to their adorable dog, Marty). The episode explores balance in relationships, how opposites attract, and what it's like to be in the public eye with a partner who isn't about the spotlight. Then… the infamous coffee reading. Pol' picks up on some seriously spooky truths: Reza's planning a massive home renovation, which—shockingly—he hasn't told anyone publicly. He's floored as Pol' accurately senses energy shifts, spiritual anchors, and even a mysterious, sacred presence tied to the longtime previous homeowner. It's not a ghost, but it's definitely a vibe. Reza confirms it all—including a hidden hook with a “key to the safe” he found under a vanity drawer. Wild! The real estate talk turns educational as Reza drops wisdom from his Iranian family legacy and gives two golden rules: never lease and never pay credit card interest. Patrik confesses he's breaking both. There's also a juicy story about selling his husband's G-Wagon behind his back. (He thought it was just in for service. Spoiler: it wasn't.) From Gemini exes to Cartier rings, Van Cleef to juice cleanses, and even Patrik & Pol's 22-year love story and 89-country travel tradition—this episode is equal parts glam, LOL, heart, and hustle. And yes, Reza may or may not be filming for a top-secret show (Valley Persian Style?), but his wardrobe's ready for the spotlight, even if he can't confirm a thing. BravoCon, dolls, coffee grounds, and home makeovers—it's all happening. ✨ Don't miss Part 2—it only gets juicier.

In a new exhibition, Chicago's Floating Museum pays homage to Bronzeville's Mecca Flats through its Floating Monuments series. Built in 1892 as a hotel for visitors to the World's Fair, the Mecca Flats was later converted into apartments that served Chicago's African American community on the South Side. But by the 1950s, the building was demolished to make way for the Illinois Institute of Technology's S.R. Crown Hall. Now, the Floating Museum is honoring the Mecca Flats' contribution to Chicago's culture with an inflatable replica of the apartment building. Reset examines the history of the Mecca, the legacy of urban renewal and the displacement of Black residents with Faheem Majeed, artist and co-director of the Floating Museum, and Rebekah Coffman, curator of religion and community history architecture at the Chicago History Museum. Across the country in late June and early July, mulberry trees fruit, producing tasty berries enjoyed by humans, birds, and squirrels alike. You'll often see evidence of this on sidewalks in suburban neighborhoods stained purple by the fallen berries. But if these mulberry trees are hanging over water, fish are able to enjoy the fruits of their bounty as well. On today's episode we join guide Luke Annear of Freshwater Flats on an unnamed river in Southern Wisconsin in the search of carp and catfish. So the ebike is a brick in the back of my Rav4, but it still works like a normal bike, so let's keep going! But a sudden realization may provide the solution to unlock all the battery goodness, just as another stunning discovery makes me realize, this trip's Plan B was all meant to be. Lake Ontario 2025 - Part 3 Hotel pack-up & quick diagnosis Morning in Oswego, NY. Realizes the motor cut-off is just a loose brake-lever magnet. Simple electrical/duct-tape fix brings the e-bike back to life. Route planning & launch Scraps the closed Cape Vincent ferry idea decides to drive the east shore of Lake Ontario, scouting state parks and quieter wildlife areas instead of sticking to busy parks. Lake-side stops Quick visit to Black Pond Wildlife Management Area (too restricted for bikes). Heads north to Westcott Beach State Park for a short beach walk, photos, and a quick battery test run. Drive to Canada Long detour to the Thousand Islands bridge (the only open crossing) because the south-end Wolf Island ferry is closed. Smooth Canadian customs stop; grabs ice cream and activates a Canadian eSIM for data. Kingston → Wolf Island ferry Misses the boat by two cars; 80-minute wait becomes a snack-and-people-watch session. Free ferry ride over; hotel is literally a block from the dock. Marysville check-in Rustic ground-floor room, lake view, no A/C needed. Drops bags, scopes dinner options (hotel café). Evening e-bike shake-down 14-mile out-and-back along Route 95 to the shuttered U.S. ferry dock on the south tip. Cruises at ~20 mph, marvels at wind turbines, farmland scenery, and micro-climates. Confirms minimal battery draw and re-affirms “twice the speed, half the effort” mantra. Wrap-up reflections Happy the brake glitch happened early—it forced a car assist and avoided being stranded. They were built in the late 1950s and have heritage status for being relatively unique social housing. Housing Minister Chris Bishop has intervened to let owners, Victoria University, demolish the building, which it'll replace with student accommodation. Architect Ken Davis says it's part of our cultural heritage. "If we pull it down, we're destroying some existing viable housing units that already exist - they only need to be refurbished."
