“In death there are no accidents, no coincidences, no mishaps, and no escapes.” This week, we're continuing our tribute to iconic performers we've recently lost, as part of our May They Rest In Peaceseries. Join Henrique and David as they travel to Canada (spiritually, at least) to revisit one of the most memorable horror thrillers of the 2000s: Final Destination. Directed by James Wong and starring Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, and the unforgettable Tony Todd—who delivers an unforgettable turn in just one scene—this episode dives into the supernatural suspense that made this film a generational anxiety trigger.
"Based on true events" or "Inspired by true events" is not that uncommon for film, especially the thriller and horror genres. The new film, THE MAN IN THE WHITE VAN, is one of them. Though completely fictional, it is inspired by the real life Florida serial killer Billy Mansfield. From Rottentomatoes: "Inspired by a true story, "The Man in the White Van" delves into the eerie underbelly of a seemingly idyllic 1975 Florida town, and follows the harrowing experience of young Annie Williams, a spirited girl whose carefree existence is turned upside down as she becomes stalked by an ominous man in a white van."The film was directed and co-written by Warren Skeels. The film starts Madison Wolfe, Brec Bassinger, Ali Larter, and Sean Astin. With the help of Ali Larter, Sean Astin, and Giovanni Ribisi (as cinematographer) to independently produce, the movie was picked up by Relativity Media for distribution. It received mixed reviews on release, but is this film truly a hidden gem that everyone must see?
Keep your seatbelts fastened, your trays in an upright position, and your cargo pants in the overhead bin, because it's time to take off with James Wong's supernatural slasher FINAL DESTINATION, starring Devon Sawa and Ali Larter.
Phil and Emily are wrapping up their dive into Beyoncé's films of the 2000s mini series with the wild, over-the-top thriller Obsessed (2009). Joining them for this high-stakes finale are Sidney Butler and Austin Harris, ready to break down the campy chaos of this Beyoncé vs. Ali Larter showdown. From glass-shattering catfights to wildly intense stares, they unpack why Obsessed became a cult classic for messy movie lovers and why it holds a special place in Beyoncé's filmography. They also explore the film's place in the Fatal Attraction–inspired thriller boom, Idris Elba's “perfect husband” energy, and the pure, unhinged joy of watching Queen Bey throw someone down a flight of stairs. Is it a misunderstood thriller or a perfectly executed piece of camp? Tune in for this hilarious and fiery discussion to find out!

He puts us through our paces again with another edition of Simply Accountable. Julie goes all in on Harrison Ford. DJ obsesses again on Ali Larter and an Asian Sherlock Holmes. Justin discovers who is truly after Robert Zemeckis. And Matt besmirches David Zaslov about his weight. All that and more on this drunken uncle edition of the Simplistic Reviews Podcast.
What is it to be obsessed? It's not getting what you want but feeling you're entitled to it. It's also a crazy ass movie starrting Beyonce', Ali Larter & Idris Alba that we watched for this week's episode! An abolute batshit crazy inverse on the stalker trope, OBSESSED shows just what happens when they don't take no for an answer.

In this week's episode of Bingeworthy, host Mike DeAngelo gets his hands dirty while discussing the gritty Paramount+ drama “Landman.” Co-created by Christian Wallace and Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone,” ”1883,”“Mayor of Kingstown”), the series dives into the world of West Texas oilfields where roughnecks, wildcat billionaires, and corporate interests collide. Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, and more, the show captures a boom so big it's reshaping everything from local economies to geopolitics. Joining the podcast are Christian Wallace, the showrunner and co-creator whose podcast “Boomtown” inspired the series, and Billy Bob Thornton, who stars as Tommy Norris, a brash and seasoned landman navigating the dangerous and volatile oil industry. During the interview, Wallace shared how “Landman" grew out of his life experiences and his 2019 podcast, which chronicled the oil boom in the Permian Basin. What began as a niche story quickly drew widespread attention and eventually caught the eye of Taylor Sheridan. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/theplaylist/support

Get your popcorn ready as we sit down with Warren Skeels, the visionary director behind the upcoming film "The Man in the White Van", releasing theatrically on December 13th, 2024. Based on the true story of convicted serial killer Billy Mansfield Jr. in Florida in the 70s, when our parents told us to stay away from strangers in vans, this is the origin story. Warren's personal journey from Jacksonville to his directorial debut in Hollywood has been nothing short of remarkable. With roots as a latchkey kid, he infuses his own experiences of unease and mystery into his storytelling, crafting a thriller that promises to grip audiences. This week, we're headed to Harvard Law (what, like it's hard?) as J Mo cashes in a recent thrift store pick-up so we'd have something light and breezy to discuss in the wake of recent events. It's 2001's Legally Blonde, directed by Robert Luketic, and starring Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Matthew Davis, Victor Garber, Holland Taylor, Jennifer Coolidge, Ali Larter, Osgood Perkins, Raquel Welch and Linda Cardellini. A box office hit that spawned a sequel, a broadway musical (with accompanying talent search reality show), and apparently a forthcoming prequel TV series, and launched its charming lead as a certified household name Movie Star after winning turns in Pleasantville and Election. Plus: both hosts have been to the theatre this week, and have field trips to report on for Conclave and Heretic. And we go deep into overtime after the end credits with a littany of thoughts on the first trailer for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. If you'd like to watch the film before listening along to our discussion, Legally Blonde is currently streaming for free on Tubi in Canada at the time of publication, and is also available via MGM. Other works referenced in this episode include The Saint, I Saw The TV Glow, The Transporter, I Know That Voice, Casa Bonita, Mi Amor!, Martha, Shawshank Redemption, My Old Ass, The Fallout, The Fog, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, A Perfect Circle's album Mer de Noms, cable TV, Longlegs, X-Men, Walk The Line, Walk Hard, Animal House, Cruel Intentions, The Time Machine, Olympus Has Fallen, It's Complicated, American Pie, Barbie, the entire Mission: Impossible series, No Time To Die, The Dark Knight Rises, North by Northwest, Interstellar, The Fast and the Furious franchise, and John Wick among others. We'll be back next week as we've lined up the No-theme-ber schedule to coincide with the release of one of the last anticipated major release of the year. No, not Wicked. We're circling back to 2000's eventual Best Picture winner, Ridley Scott's Gladiator with Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix, which can be found streaming north of the border currently on Netflix and Paramount+. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!! Hamburger.

Did any of those numerous deleted scenes maybe have more character details by any chance? Why couldn't Jeffrey Combs have played a larger role in this movie? And did anybody else have the Mandela Effect bad memory that Kattan's character got it in the first fifteen minutes? PLUS: Haunted houses need companionship too! House on Haunted Hill stars Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Peter Gallagher, Chris Kattan, Ali Larter, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Max Perlich, Lisa Loeb, James Marsters, Peter Graves, and Jeffrey Combs as Dr. Vannacutt; directed by William Malone.
