Yael Gavish and Matt Kona , two comedians from Boston (Yael is from Israel though!)do comedy. Where are you REALLY from is a comedy show Yael created on 2017 with different comedians from all around the world now turning into a podcast with special comedians guests! stay tuned!
It’s the final movie of the month! The first sequel we’ve done too, and it’s a good one. We travel across the pond to not so Jolly Old England to watch “The Conjuring 2” and see some 70’s modern technology try to detect some grumpy old man spirits and in a connection to the first movie of the month, a very mean #demonic #nun. So brew up a spot of tea, grab a crumpet and watch or listen to the final #Halloween movie recap of 2020! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #TheConjuring2
Another classic #Korean story, but this time it’s filtered through the lens of an American teen drama about a young girl dealing with bouncing back from a suicide attempt and subsequent hospitalization in a mental facility following her mother’s #death, her author dad shacking up with his now ex-wife’s nurse and the feelings of rejection projected onto her by her older sister. Also the Mom’s former nurse is very attractive. And no trucks come to life at any point in this movie, unlike yesterday when it happened a lot. Can you believe it’s the 2nd to last day of the month? We can’t either, so sit back and listen while we invite you to listen to our recap of “The Uninvited.” Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #TheUninvited
A Stephen King story makes another appearance on our month of podcasts, and it’s another re-make. Matt, who picked it, didn’t realize at the time that he was picking a more modern, less fun, more Canadien (and made for television) version of the schlock classic “Maximum Overdrive” but he did. And it’s called “Trucks.” We won’t spoil what it’s about, so be sure to tune in and listen as the month of October grinds to a close. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Trucks
Yael and Matt spend the majority of this episode discussing their very different upbringings in acquiring movies in the time before streaming and it may be the most enjoyable episode yet. Yes, they could have discussed a bullied sick child being mentally and physically tormented the whole time but it’s sometimes better to delve into the land of VHS tapes and small kiosks outside to find a movie to plan your weekend around. Today they watch an MTV film made for Netflix called “Eli” as they near the finish line of daily horror films to podcast about. Only a couple more days left, so stick around Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Eli
We get in our time traveling motorcycle side car and head back to #1980 to dig deep (well...shoulder deep) into a reluctant cult classic about #kidnapping, #cannibalism, small town values, open relationships, jealousy, smoking meet and large age gap romance. You don’t have to wait to see if we tipped the maid or wrote something nice in their ledger to find out how we feel about our stay in “Motel Hell” because you can just listen to today’s episode. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #MotelHell
With just under a week left until Halloween will this daily horror #podcast sink or swim? Or be eaten by a metaphorical shark off the coast of Australia? Is what they watched a #horror movie? Is it a salute to a traumatic event, is arguing on a podcast about each of these things both horrific and traumatic? Who will Shelly the podcast dog/couch #shark attack this episode? All these answers and more while Yael and Matt recap “The Reef.” Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #TheReef
American consumerism, the five second rule, sassy former F.B.I. agents and shadowy ice cream executives. Are these the ingredients to a fun 80’s satire about a food stuff phenomenon that is destroying small town America? Will Yael give it credit for it’s absurdity or just rock out to the catchy jingle of the horrifying white globs of alien terror that is 1985’s “The Stuff”? Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #TheStuff
Another day, another #anthology movie (and back to back movies that feature cassette tapes) this time we have a fun morning #recap where we drink coffee and talk about a fun collaboration of horror legends like John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Sam Raimi, Wes Craven and...Tom Arnold? Well, close enough! So if you’re a balding minor league baseball player who works in a gas station, this is the movie for you. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #BodyBags
What if The Walking Dead’s “Negan” traded in his barbed wire baseball bat for an invisible basketball? How hasn’t Kyra Sedgwick aged since 1992? Are there deals at a Jewish yard sale? What’s more worthy of a father’s attention-dancing abilities or shooting moths out of your mouth? Some of these questions are answered on today’s Halloween movie podcast where we watch “The Possession.” Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Possession
A mid 2000’s #horror movie? An #Oscar winning #actress (for something else), cheap real estate? A PG-13 rating? This movie has all three of those things and a little bit more of some other stuff. We watched “The House At The End Of The Street” from our apartment at the end of a parking lot as we continue our march towards 31 horror movies in 31 days continues. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Halloween
A second consecutive day of back to back #anthology #horror, this too has an international twist to it, but it comes by way of Jolly Old England. It also features two generations of horror legends, Vincent Price and Donald Pleasance. It’s also a little more light hearted and silly and features the lowest costume budget of any of the movies we’ve seen so far and some pretty stellar 80’s new wave providing the soundtrack to the interludes. So join Matt and Yael as they talk whistling, brutal pigeon death, bullying, wacky dads, Ghoul cops and grave snacking with 1971’s “Monster Club.” Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #TheMonsterClub
Our first #anthology of the month is an international affair as the nations of China, South Korea and Japan band together to dazzle us with their art, while disturbing our soles. A #Dumpling Fountain Of Youth, pulling back the curtain of “nice people” in the entertainment industry and trying to think outside the box when it comes to avant garde theater with child performers. It’s a rocky ride, but worth the trip to experience some forms of #horror content that don’t normally get tapped into in this way. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #ThreeExtremes
Yael and Matt recap a mini series? A MINI-mini series? Or a British TV movie? Is it all of the above? Yes, kind of. Either way it’s a long night of admiring Pierce Brosnan’s handsomeness and unwillingness to do an American accent in 2011’s A&E adaptation of the Stephen King novel “Bag of Bones.” It’s a small town story of a big time novelist haunted by helpful and spiteful ghosts, a town cursed by drownings and a haunted tree. Stay up late with us and check out our newest daily #horror movie podcast as we march toward #Halloween. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #BagofBones
We journey back into the rich realm of #Korean #Horror films with a modern take on a classic ghost story with “The Mimic” and learn about the importance of parents taking care of their parents and random dirty kids they find in the woods. They journey into hidden caves, get bummed out about dogs and try to make analogies about Tony Hawk video games. It’s the latest horror recap in a day of 31 consecutive podcasts to celebrate #Halloween. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #TheMimic
After a rough go of it on the “found footage” front with (one of the movies called) “I See You” Yael and Matt recap one of their favorite movies of the month so far. Comedian and comic book creator Tim Vargulish (GoatMan and President Werewolf) recommended this Korean import and it did not disappoint. A group of film makers go to discover an abandoned mental hospital and open a famously closed door, and things go all sorts of wrong. They also go wrong in the middle of the recording when podcast mascot/saboteur Shelly the Puppy gets violently ill in the middle of it. So tune in to the episode and wish a speedy recovery to our little labrador as we continue our streak of daily podcasts. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Gonjiam #HalloweenChallenge
It's a special double feature episode because we watched a 2019 movie called "I See You" that was a real piece of dog shit found #footage mentally unstable blogger movie that was 80 minutes that felt like the length of the Godfather Trilogy. Afterwards Yael revealed that she meant to pick a DIFFERENT 2019 movie called "I See You" and it was a lot better. So this episode will be equal parts complaining and singing praises (with no actual singing) and the usual hijinx. We're near the mid point of October and kicking it into a higher gear for the home stretch. Catch the links for daily #horror movie podcasts! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #HappyHalloween #ISeeYou
Have you ever been to a dinner party and resented someone for being a condescending “know it all”? How about one who is in constant contact with a dead ten year old through a #Ouija board (that he corrects your pronunciation of)? Well that’s how this adventure begins in this hidden gem of an 80’s #horror movie starring hard rock video vixen and assaulter of Major League Baseball players, Tawney Kitaen. It’s got a title and a cover that are deceiving, so tune in to see what we thought of “Witch Board.” Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Ouija
In celebration of completing our 2nd week of 31 #horror movie recaps in 31 days we conjure up the 2nd spinoff from The Conjuring, “Annabelle.” Does it live up to the hype? Should we collect dolls? Are kill cults that aren’t religious that much different than ones that are? Did Matt even watch the movie? All these questions and more are answered on the latest Yael and Matt Recap #Halloween. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Annabelle
Do you get stressed out seeing movie trucks? Even more so, seeing them during a pandemic? We do too. But it’s not bad as people who move to #Hollywood with only a cat and a sleeping bag and hope to make it as a costume designer. It’s even worse when the apartment community you find has plans for you. We recap “1BR” talk about death from natural causes, horror show apartment memories from our past and more! It’s day 13 of our 30 Days of #Horror movies as we march toward Halloween, so download the latest episode and allow us to buzz you into our podcast community. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #1BR
#Spooky hallways, shock jock morning zoo radio, local #Massachusetts pizza places, bare asses and #creepy German #metal music. Is this a recipe for a good #horror film? Will Rob Zombie (and his leading lady wife) deliver us TO #evil? We watched “Lords of Salem” (Matt dozed off a bunch) and the recap, is here for you to listen to now. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #LordsofSalem #Salem
2019 #Florida is a #scary enough place for a film to qualify as a #horror movie, but throw in a massive #hurricane, giant #alligators, daddy issues and the possibility of drowning and you have last year’s “Crawl.” Is it a horror movie just because heads get bitten off? Is going under water without holding your nose scary? Will this podcast be interrupted by a puppy doing an alligator impression? Listen it and find out! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Crawl
An American journeys across the pond to 1960’s England (we think) for a hookup and meets her bizarre family (and silent butler) and begins to encounter a series of bizarre occurrences in this Boris Karloff starring H.P. Lovecraft adaptation. It was one of the shortest films that we watched but felt just as long as the others because of 60’s film pacing on our millennial/Gen-X brains. Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Monsters #Halloween
Do you need to a movie to watch while your parents are out on the town and a sexy adult woman is taking care of you before giving you a shot of booze before bed? Well this is the movie for you, I guess. It’s bright, bubbly and gory and the votes are split between your two hosts about whether they liked it. Tune in to hear a heated debate! Yael Gavish & Matt Kona #Babysitter #Netflix
Do you know your neighbors? Probably not, but if you claim to-do you REALLY know them? Matt and Yael watch Fright Night and reminisce about the good old days of 80’s horror, vampire hunting, neighborhood watches and low level local celebrity. Check out the podcast as we knock out a horror movie podcast discussion every day throughout October! #FrightNight #Vampire
Train rides are long. Movies about train rides feel even longer, especially when they force character development into disaster movie archetypes of people being hunted by zombie commuters throughout Korea. Did we learn about culture? Parenting? Being polite to strangers? Listen for yourself as we break down “Train to Busan” in today’s recap. Plus a special #monster guest!
A movie about a voodo possesses doll? Not quite. A re-boot about a safety protocol depleted A.I. doll made by a disgruntled worker. DING! DING! DING! In our second of back to back re-makes we watch the reimagined Child’s Play movie and enjoy a modernized story of a kid with no friends except a second hand murderous toy and some friends who only like him because of it. But are they “friends ‘til the end?” Listen in and find out! #Goodguy #Chucky #Halloween2020
Stephen King movies ruled the TV and movie screens in the 80’s and the remakes of them have showed up a lot in the 2000’s. Matt and Yael dig into (or should we say “up”?) Pet Sematary. How does it hold up? Will they guess correctly the animals that die? Is Stephen King in it? Does anyone get the accents right? Listen to today’s podcast and find out! #SK
From ancient #Persia to modern day America an evil #genie type God to be grants your #wishes in #evil ways while also using the word “wish” in very cheesey ways. It’s a fun, horror movie made by a special effects master Robert Kurtzman under the watchful (wishful) eye of Wes Craven. We WISH you listen and subscribe!
Two #comedians podcasting about a #horror movie a day, one Japanese dreamy gore fest about three girls dealing with crazy circumstances (including one of the most insane opening two minutes either of us have ever seen)...one new episode of Yael and Matt Recap Stuff trying to make sense of it all. Listen in as we try and dissect “Tag.”
With the weather still nice, and the weekend starting up, it’s time to pack the bags and head up to THE CABIN IN THE WOODS featuring new vocabulary words, a handsome young man before he became a God of Thunder, #zombies, #horror movie tropes turned on their head, an expensive bong and a Mer-Man, Yael and Matt have fun recapping a wild new(ish) horror movie classic.
Can a decent horror movie spin off from a minute of footage in a great horror movie? Does The Vatican operate like the F.B.I.? Can a horny French Canadian man convince a soon to be Nun to change her mind? All these questions are asked and some of them may be answered as comedians Yael Gavish and Matt Kona begin the first installment of a 31 day podcast marathon of horror movies all October long with “Yael and Matt Recap Halloween”
Every week comedian Yael Gavish talks with a comedian that has at some point been asked “Where Are You REALLY From?” Whether it's due to an accent, skin color, the outfit they are wearing or various other factors. Each conversation explores personal stories about travels, family life, cultural experiences and funny stories that have happened along the way. Today I'm back in Boston, I've had a great time talking with the very funny local comedian Jimmy Zhang. Jimmy is made in China, as he described himself, he moved to the US as a kid, 5 years after his parents. Now located in Boston he makes the locals laugh in English (and maybe one day in Chinese...). He's been doing comedy since 2009 and is also my husband, so this is the last one on one interview for a while due to the obvious pandemic, that you may be familiar with. Matt has not really been asked "Where are you REALLY From?" before but he has travelled around to multiple European countries just before and immediately after starting his comedy career. So listen as we debate what it truly means to "travel" and eventually he tells stories of being a roadie for punk bands, driving and sleeping in vans, many of which I have never heard. Give him a follow on various social media accounts- @MattKona
