Sarah and Carrie are joined by Chris Dortch II and Dustin Kramer to talk about wacky garden cannibalism in Motel Hell (1980)! We've got cannibalism of course, 80s food philosophy and villain depiction, landscape of cannibalism films of the time, sustainable humans, smoked meats, roadside food, director Kevin Connor's foodie film legacy, and more! "I do declare, your smoked meats are superior."This weeks Scariest movie is.... Motel Hell. This movie has everything. A motel that may or may not double as a swingers' paradise. A meat-smoking entrepreneur whose meats get way too many sexual compliments. 50 Cent's lost Halloween album, Rump Scare. A philosophical debate on whether vegans would eat people if they were planted like vegetables. It's Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Top Chef meets the world's most unsettling farm-to-table experience. So grab a Slim Jim (or maybe don't), because it takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters.Help Support our HV Family: www.Patreon.com/HorrorVirginWhat did you think of this episode? We also discuss the overlap between wrestling & horror fans, watching horror while traveling, frequently with his tag team partner, Vincent, which horror movie characters he'd like to have a match against & which films he would choose if he were programming a double feature at a drive in. Four decades on, and Fangoria is still one of the leading voices of horror culture. But in it's heyday in the 1980s, it was the gold standard. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that Fangoria was the most important part of horror culture at that time. On this episode of Discover the Horror, we take a trip through Fango's history and discuss how it shaped out love of the genre, as well as speculating on how it shaped the genre as a whole. Movies mentioned in this episode: Accion Mutante (1993), Bad Taste (1987), The Beyond (1981), Brain Dead (1992), Conan the Barbarian (1982), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), The Fly (1986), Geek Maggot Bingo (1983), Godzilla (1954), I Drink Your Blood (1971), Intruder (1989), I Spit on Your Grave (1978), Motel Hell (1980), Puppet Master III (1991), Q (1982), Shriek of the Mutilated (1974), Star Wars (1977), Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Videodrome (1982), Zombie (1979)
Now that it's mid-October, the guys are all-in on their horror movie reviews. Well, at least they were until they watched 1980's "Motel Hell." Now, they just hate Craig more than usual. But, if you like the idea of cannibalism, jerky, wet t-shirts, blind acceptance, senior citizen fake cowboys, May-December romance, and possible incest, this is the episode for you. DownloadMerry Christmas and welcome to episode 352 of LOTC!!! This is an episode that has been a year in the making. We started in January with a journey through the greatest decade for music and movies, in our opinion. Our journey was each month we covered our top five horror movies from the decade of 1980's. Starting in January we will begin with top five horror movies from 1970 and each month we will continue until December 2024 with our top 10 of the decade. In this spooky Halloween special, I'm joined by Ethan James @TheHonestCarpenter to discuss our favorite scary movies just in time for Halloween. We explore various horror subgenres, from classic slashers to modern gems, sharing recommendations and insights. Some of the movies discussed: "Happy Death Day" "Totally Killer" "The Blackcoat's Daughter" "Terrifier" and "Terrifier 2" "Saw" (Franchise) VHS Series (Found Footage Anthology) "Halloween Trick 'r Treat" "Evil Dead Rise" "Ginger Snaps" "Prom Night 2: Hello Mary Lou" "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" "Werewolves Within" John Carpenter's Films ("The Fog," "Christine") "Motel Hell" "Auntie Lee's Meat Pies" "Infinity Pool" "Deadstream" Nicolas Cage Films ("Adaptation," "Pig," "Becky," "Wrath of Becky") We share our thoughts on cult favorites like "Terrifier" and the unique anti-hero Jigsaw from the "Saw" franchise. We also delve into the world of found footage horror with the VHS series, emphasizing the artistry and creativity behind these shorts. We also touch on "Evil Dead Rise" and its fresh urban take on the horror classic. Werewolf movies briefly take the spotlight, with "Ginger Snaps" standing out as a memorable example. We continue our discussion by exploring recent horror releases, including "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" and the comedy-horror gem "Werewolves Within." We share insights on the experience of rewatching older films and highlight their enjoyment of John Carpenter's classics like "The Fog" and "Christine." And let's not forget about kitschy horror favorites such as "Motel Hell" and "Auntie Lee's Meat Pies." The episode also delves into marketing strategies, with A24's approach to promoting independent cult films being commended. The effectiveness of movie trailers and the trend of young filmmakers attempting to include everything in their movies are explored. The Lovecraftian genre, Nicolas Cage's diverse roles in horror, and a brief mention of "Deadstream" round out our discussion. Throughout the conversation, we emphasize their belief that a good film should be evaluated not solely on objective elements like acting and budget, but on its ability to tell a compelling story and evoke emotions. We share their appreciation for films that surprise and engage the audience, leaving a lasting impression. Ethan on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheHonestCarpenter

For the epically-long episode 224 we look at two dark comedies with cannibalism at their core. We start off with the 1980 classic "Motel Hell" from show-favorite director Kevin Connor. It focuses on "Farmer Vincent" played by Rory Calhoun and his sister Ida, played by Porky's-own Nancy Parsons. They run the "Motel Hello" and are known all across the local area as the purveyors of "Farmer Vincent's Smoked Meats" which we find out are made from waylaid motorists who are trapped, buried in the ground to be fattened up and then butchered and smoked. It isn't a total success but it's an interesting curio from bygone days with a few standout moments that should be seen at least once. We follow this with the seemingly zero-budget "Auntie Lee's Meat Pies" from 1997. This is really a thing that has to be seen to be believed. Starring Karen Black as Auntie Lee, Michael Berryman as her bumbling son and Pat Morita as the local sherrif, the cast is definitely stacked for a movie at this level. The story is essentially that Auntie Lee, who worships Satan, takes bad men and turns them into delicious meat pies. Auntie Lee has a gorgeous squad of young women who go out into the world and tempt these bad men into situations where they can be captured and killed and brought back for processing. Directed by Joseph F. Robertson, who mostly has done adult films, this is a weird combination of trippy moments, soft-core sexiness and over-acting! Trust us, it's a completely unique experience. We then proceed to list the various things we've been watching for fun. Please let us know what you thought of the show, and send us some suggestions for future episodes. You can email us at flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. You can also reach us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

This week, Josh and Dru watch Penelope Spheeris' treatise on toxic masculinity, The Boys Next Door. From wiki: “The Boys Next Door is a 1985 American adventure-crime drama film about two teenage boys who leave their small town home on the day of their high school graduation and embark on a crime and murder spree. Roy Alston (Maxwell Caulfield) and Bo Richards (Charlie Sheen) are two outcasts of their high school community. Bo receives $200 as a graduation gift from his grandparents. Facing a lifetime of working blue collar factory jobs, the boys spontaneously decide to use the money to go on a vacation to Los Angeles.” Before that, they discuss To Die For, The Matt Dillon Renaissance including Little Darlings, Over the Edge, Asteroid City, and Lars Von Trier. Drusilla also watched The Chase from 1994. But also? Spookies! They discuss Spookies for the first time. Also, Motel Hell. Josh saw The Ants at Geffen Playhouse; a horror play that he loved. In this week's episode, we're concluding our siblings-running-a-farm rock block with the 1980 utterly bananas film "Motel Hell." Truly, the mind boggles. Special topics for your consideration include: a fantastic tagline for a movie or a brand of smoked meats or really whatever you're promoting, the siren call of Rory Calhoun, terrible police work, absolutely baffling motivations, and the age old question of what did characters know and when did they know it? I'm putting this up there with a handful of my other favorite bizarre horror movies of the 1980s- Episode 35- "Neon Maniacs," Episode 140- "Killer Klowns from Outer Space," Episode 174- "Chopping Mall," and Episode 265- "Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama." DownloadWelcome to Episode 303 of LOTC. This week the crew is discussing Horror movie poster art with special guest Edward Delgado. Edward is a Graphic Designer who has created several of the logos used with LOTC as well as many other podcasts. Edward came up with the theme this week which was our top five horror movie posters. This was a lot of fun talking about not only the posters that made us want to see a movie. If you think this is just going to be us naming a poster, then you will be mistaken as we really break down our thoughts on each poster. You will have a deeper appreciation about the posters we love to buy or hang on our walls from our favorite movies. You will find yourself examining the ones you own, and be surprised to find hidden art within art. As a Horror Podcast the crew also review Driller Killer which happens of course to be about an artist gone mad & finds a way to relief his stress. We thank Edward "Eddie " for sharing his knowledge & talent with LOTC. We hope you will enjoy this episode and let us know which are your favorites all time artsy horror posters. Jeff and Lucas discuss the much-maligned cannibal subgenre, as well as movies containing cannibalism either through explicit depictions or inference. Cannibal Ferox, Blood Diner, Motel Hell, Silence of the Lambs, The Green Inferno, and Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea all get mentions. Ruggero Deodato is still the king. We like Joe D'Amato too. Umberto Lenzi, not so much.
Cooper and Nolan are trying not to buy the farm this week when they check into MOTEL HELL! This horror/comedy hybrid is packed with incredible 80s effects, iconic imagery, and more than a few genuinely creepy moments. No wonder it quickly became a cult classic! Still, that won't stop the guys from making fun of some of the more...simple aspects of this movie - including a performance so awful that it might deserve a spot on the bad acting Mt. Rushmore. So get ready to take a big bite out of this episode; it takes all kinds of critters (and a beer from Meuse Brewing) to make Cooper and Nolan's podcast!
Welcome to The Vault Of Startling Monster Horror Tales Of Terror in which your hosts, “Bacon Brothers” Luke and Jason Jaconetti and Chris Tyler and Honeywell – the”Hickory smoked-twins” check out 1980’s cannibal family classic – MOTEL HELL!

Y'all come back now, ya hear? For our first full episode of Season 3, Stephen Fry and Joel McHale join us once again as we check in to Motel Hell (1980). A stand out B-Movie that's garnered a huge cult following since it's release over 40 years ago, Motel Hell was a breath of fresh air during the onslaught of teen slashers in the early 80s. Sinking their teeth into another season of outdoor grilling and fall-off-the-bone barbecuing, Corpse Club co-hosts Bryan Christopher and Derek Anderson program their own cannibal horror movie marathons they would love to watch under the stars at the drive-in! From The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Motel Hell to Raw and Ravenous, listen as Bryan and Derek each curate their own delectable (and deadly) menu of five cannibal films for viewers to enjoy... if they can stomach it!
Freddy's glove! Jason's machete! Jigsaw's mask! Leatherface's Chainsaw! Like any religion, horror and sci-fi movies can be such a spiritual experience for fans that props and costumes can become holy relics. Join my guests, James Azrael and Ernesto Avina, partners, and curators of The Horror & SciFi Prop Preservation Association (HSPPA), as they discuss passion, obsession, and how art is in the eye of the beholder. What is the "Holy Grail" of movie props? Might it be...the Holy Grail itself? Props! Monsters! Museums! What more could you want? Would you believe that at the center of their story are...cupcakes?
