What if instead of buying into all our negativity - what if we could believe everything - even our suffering, our negative thoughts and emotions - are perfect. Crazy, right? Especially considering that a new war - filled with injustice and suffering to so many - just broke out in this world of ours. But what's God's take on this? What does He tell us He'll do if we just abide and trust in Him and His plans? He tells us that everything, ALL things, every detail of our human life works together for our good. Maybe not so crazy, huh? Now we have to understand this good is on God's time. It might not be today, tomorrow or even this lifetime. But when we open our minds to this idea, we can see how He's done it time and time again even in situations that seemed absolutely hopeless or horrific - way worse than anything I've gone through. Here's my experience the more I've opened my mind to this idea. The more - not less - everything in my very messy world makes sense to me. And I think that's evidence of the perfect plan God has for me - and I can't wait to see where His plan continues to take me, take you, and the rest of our amazing world. Join me on this podcast and learn: -- How this can change your perspective and outlook on your life. -- How this can change your perspective and outlook on this world. -- More of God's amazing truths about this - including how He used the worse event ever. -- How this can help us make sense of our suffering. Listen to Episode 88: Everything is Perfect And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God... Romans 8:28
Think back to all the successes you've experienced in your life. Can you clearly see what created that success? Usually we just remember the end result and forget the details of our journey to get there. I'm confident when you break it down, here's what you'll find - it was fueled by a series of small steps and actions. The cumulative power in those small steps and actions were the driving forces behind your ultimate success. Yet in our weight loss journeys we're so quick to dismiss the small, simple and doable steps. Instead our brain tricks us into believing we have to do all the hard things - and we have to start doing them immediately. And that's exactly what gets us stuck and makes us quit. So if you've already quit your New Year's diet - or didn't even start one because you didn't want to fail again - here's the best thing you can do. Get back up in the simplest and easiest way. Get back up by taking the one small step you can commit to today - and don't do anything else until you're willing to do it. That's how all past success has been created in your life - and despite what your brain tries to tell you - achieving lasting success with your weight is no different. Join me on this podcast and learn: -- Why our brains make us think we have to do ALL the things right away? -- How eliminating your weight for good is like a game of Jenga. -- How you can apply starting small to change ANY eating habit. -- The only times I've seen starting fast actually work. Believing you DON'T have to do it all is a critical first step to learning how to eliminate your weight for good. Listen to Episode 87: Success Comes in Small Steps The work that I ask you to accept is easy. The load I give you to carry is not heavy. Jesus in Matthew 11:30 ICB
Here are some things diets never teach us. How to keep going when our initial excitement and motivation goes away (and I probably don't have to tell you this - IT WILL). How we keep up with ALL the things they tell us to do...ESPECIALLY on our most difficult days. You know the days your kid's sick at home, the dog pukes on the floor, the boss is waiting on your report and your husband's asking you when dinner's going to be ready. Diet's don't teach us that - instead they tell us all the things we should be doing - and then tell us to try harder and try to be more positive when we don't. SPOILER ALERT: This doesn't work! They tell you they have the perfect recipe for you to lose weight fast but they're missing the most essential ingredients. And that's why we start and stop them over and over again. In fact most New Year's diets don't even make it past the first month. If this speaks to you don't despair because in this podcast I'm going to share exactly what steps to take when your diet fails you In this podcast you'll learn: -- Why and how the diets fail you (and NOT the other way around) -- Why you repeat your diet pattern again and again -- Common-sense steps you can take to set yourself up for real success after the diet fails It's time to quit your painful dieting cycle and learn how to eliminate your weight for GOOD! Listen to Episode 86: When Your New Year Diet Fails Wisdom is worth much more than gold. Understanding is worth much more than silver. Proverbs 16:16
If I asked you how you're really speaking to yourself, could you tell me? Your most powerful self-talk is subtle. And that's what makes it so powerful. It's having a big impact on our lives - and we don't even know it. Most of us have self-talk that sounds something like this when it comes to losing weight. You can't do this. This is too hard. I'm too busy. I'm so confused. Here's the problem, God designed our brain to respond to the commands it hears most frequently. So your brain focuses on all the things that prove your self-talk true. Why you can't do this. Why it's too hard. Why you're too busy. Why you're so confused. Learn 3 big things about your self-talk... 3 steps to hear yours more clearly. How it's impacting your life. How you can start changing it to work for you. Self-talk. We all have it. It's impact is real. So tune into it and own it. God gives us the power to do that. Then you can make it start working for you rather than against you. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Ephesians 4:23
Have you ever heard the saying - you don't know what you don't know? Well that saying would accurately describe me and these 5 life-changing truths just a handful of years ago. Not only did I not know them, I also wasn't actively applying them. And that led me to a life filled with much pain, frustration and heartbreak. So today I want to share these with you to help you avoid that in your life. Maybe - unlike me - you'll be familiar with these truths for our human life. Maybe you will see how you are actively applying them in your life. One thing I'm sure you'll see in this podcast is something that can alter the course of your life because each of these on their own can do exactly that. So join me to discover these 5 concepts, reflect on how they apply to your life and imagine how they could transform not just your year...but the rest of your life. Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses...Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! Deuteronomy 30:19
Want more of something in your life? There's nothing more powerful than changing where your brain is focused and what is occupying it's attention. There are different ways you can do that, but here's a simple one I started using a couple years ago. Choose your word - and then focus on it. Practice thinking about it, fixing your attention on it - and then you'll see your actions follow your brain's lead. So what do you want more of this year? Health, Love, Growth, Belief, Grace, Success, God? All of those and more are available to you -- but the path there always starts with shifting your mentality. So join me to learn how you can use this simple strategy to bring more of what you want into your life. Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Romans 12:2
If I were a genie who could grant you one thing, do you know what it would be? No -- it wouldn't be to make you rich, skinny or any more beautiful than you already are -- it would be to live your life with more intention. Seriously??? Probably sums up what you're thinking right now. Here's why - because living with more intention is how we turn the amazing things possible for our life into our reality. It's how we cut out all the unimportant distractions constantly demanding our attention. It's how we focus on our deepest desires -- the things most important to us -- rather than those that only pretend to be important in the moment. It's how we live a life filled with purpose, meaning and true satisfaction. It's how we live our most abundant human life - the life that God calls us to live. So how can you do this (since unfortunately I'm not a genie)? Well here's the great news. It all starts with you simply spending some intentional time thinking about what you want in your life. So join me today to learn exactly how I do this in my life and how you can do the same. Make 2022 the year you start living with more intention and all the incredible things that leads to. So be careful how you live. Don't live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don't act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5:15-17
I am so fired up for 2022. Are you? If you hesitated to answer that - stop and think about what that means this year's going to bring you...or not going to bring you. Sure I could be focused on all the things going wrong in my life and the world right now - that's easy because that's our default thinking. But where is that going to take me? No place I want to go. Or I could be focused on all the things I have to be grateful for, all the amazing possibilities for my life, and the things going right in my life. Where do you think that's going to take me? (Sign me up!) The truth is we're way too quick to lose sight of all the amazing possibilities God includes in our human lives - and that causes us to stagnate. When we re-connect to them and when we go after them with purpose and focus - keeping Him at the center of it - that's where we're likely to discover that rich, satisfying life He's promised us. So join me to learn what's possible for you in 2022 and how you can establish a life full of focus, passion, and purpose. Never doubt God's mighty power at work in you. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream and exceed your wildest imagination... Ephesians 3:20 TPT
What does the phrase "losing weight God's way" mean to you? Here's what it means to me: It means being aligned with His truths. It means relying on the incredible gifts He's blessed us with. It means inviting Him fully into the process. It means giving yourself grace when things don't go as planned. It means having conviction to learn and grow from your mistakes. It means loving yourself through the process. It means having a solid foundation that leads to a healthier life. It means rejecting the world's diet culture filled with striving and struggles that promotes a negative mental state. A mental state filled with doubts, confusion, and overwhelm. A mental state that leads to a cruel cycle of starting -- quitting -- starting -- quitting... This is NOT what God has planned for you. So join me to learn how you can reject the world's diet culture and choose an approach that serves you rather than tears you down - losing weight God's way. Are you honoring your dreams & desires? Or are you just letting life push them into the corner? Here's the thing - our deepest ones will keep showing up - they never go away. Is that just a strange coincidence? Absolutely not. God keeps placing those desires on our heart for a reason - because He wants us to pursue them. God tells us He has great plans for our human life, that He will direct our steps, and He wants us to have the desires of our heart. So why are we so quick to turn our back on them? Why do we believe they're always beyond our reach? Why are we so resistant to take decisive action on them? Why aren't we trusting God, involving Him, and going all-in on them? Join me as I share 3 primary reasons we give up on our dreams and desires and how God's truths show that He wants us to do the exact opposite. Register to join us for our upcoming Lose Weight God's Way challenge starting January 3rd at https://bit.ly/jan2022challenge. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Blame. It always seems so appropriate, so accurate - it's just the truth, right? Many times it's not - and when we blame others - here's what else we're doing without even realizing it. We're giving them ALL our power. Blame is assigning responsibility to someone or something else. When we do that - the only way our situation can improve is if we control and change them. And last time I checked "things" are hard to change and people don't like to be controlled. But there's a different approach we can take - and it's the best approach because with it we keep all our power. We don't need anyone to act differently so we can feel better. We don't need something to change so we can act differently. No more feeling hopeless, helpless, or desperate. This is how you can live your most abundant life no matter what. So join me to learn all about this and how to know if you're giving your power away. I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you'll have trouble, but be courageous—I've overcome the world!” John 16:33
Ahhhhh - the holiday season. It brings many of us so many fond memories, time with our family...and (gasp) ALL those delicious treats. How in the world can I possibly be expected to control myself around all that delicious food - and cookies and chocolate and candy - oh my?!? Especially since... ...it's been such a tough year - I deserve to have them. ...it's the only chance I'll have to have them ...they're simply too delicious not to have ...I don't want to be rude ...one won't make a difference (or ten, right?) Does any of that sound familiar? I know it does to me. The beautiful thing is we don't have to let our holiday joy to be at the mercy of whether we can resist or deprive ourselves enough. You CAN enjoy the holidays and eat your cake too - or choose not to. Today I'm sharing not 1 - but 4 - ways to make this your holiday reality this year. Learn how to never let the food temptations ruin your holidays ever again. You are tempted in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptations. 1 Corinthians 10:13
Does your life feel like it's just happening to you? Like you don't have any control? Like you say you want to do one thing but the next thing you know you're doing the opposite thing? So many of us fall into this at some point in our lives. We feel like no matter what we want, we're at the effect of our circumstances or other people. The truth? We're always the ones creating our current reality, our life. The problem? Many times we're unable to see that. You see God tells us our life is shaped by our thoughts - and it's our God-given right to be able to think anything we want. God's truth? This is foundational to our human lives. It all starts with the sentences in our head. Once you believe this and start applying it to your life, I promise you things will change. So join me to learn how this works and how you can make this happen. Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts. Proverbs 4:23
One study shows our unmanaged thoughts are 80% negative. And it also estimates - when you include our subconscious - we have 60,000 thoughts a day. That's a LOT of negative thinking. It's easy for us to see negativity in others, but it's difficult to see it in ourselves. In fact, almost no one admits to being negative. But the truth is most of us are dripping with subtle negativity and then blaming it on something or someone else. We don't see it because we believe we're simply stating truths or facts of our life. It's too hard because... I can't lose weight because... It's confusing because... I don't know how to change because... I'll never be able to do that because... We're negative without even realizing it. And that negativity plays a significant role in holding us back in so many areas and in so many ways. Join me to learn how to see where you're being negative without realizing it and how you can start changing that today! Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Philippians 4:8 MSG
Are you choosing your beliefs wisely or just believing what you've learned from others...or the world? So many of us just adopt the beliefs that others and the world have ingrained within us - deeply within us. And then we wonder why we struggle with similar things. Henry Ford has an awesome quote - he says, "Whether you believe you can do a thing or not, you are right." Too many of us have beliefs that aren't serving us, that aren't moving us towards the abundant human life we desire BUT... ...we're not questioning or doing anything about those beliefs, we're just continuing to let them guide our life wishing and striving for a different result. Your beliefs are literally creating your current life. Want to change your life? It starts with your beliefs. Here's some incredible news about your beliefs. God gives you the ability to change them - any of them. Join me to learn exactly how you can choose your beliefs and how this can transform your life. ...“If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
How lovable is a cute puppy? Well if you're like me you'd say it's lovable beyond belief - and you'd be right. But what about someone who doesn't like puppies? (hard to believe, I know!) Their capacity to love a cute puppy is low BUT that doesn't make the puppy any less lovable. It's not the puppy's fault. You see how much you are loved is ALL based on the other person - and their capacity to love you. But what about your capacity to love others? That obviously depends on them, right? NOPE! It's actually infinite as well -- EVEN those people you find really difficult to love -- once you understand the amazing concept I'm sharing with you in this podcast. So join me to learn all about your love-ability and how God gives us the ability to love everyone. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. 1 Peter 4:8 MSG
Boundaries. They're usually either missing or misused. Many of us don't have them - at least not ones we've clearly defined. Some of us use them as threats to try to control how someone else acts. Healthy boundaries are NEVER about what someone else needs to do, they're about what YOU will do if your physical or emotional space is violated. Boundaries are how we can love unconditionally without the fear of being hurt repeatedly -- or becoming someone's doormat. Unconditional love is such a beautiful thing that brings so much joy and freedom to your life. But many of us don't allow ourselves to go there because we think we'll end up hurt or taken advantage of. Or we think we'll condone unacceptable behavior. Unconditional love doesn't hurt and it doesn't condone - it always feels great and it recognizes we are ALL flawed human beings. Join me to learn how to create healthy boundaries that allow us to love like God calls us to and never be in fear of our emotional or physical health. A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15:1
I have a confession to make. I used to believe it was my spouse's job to make me happy. I also thought he should "complete" me in some mystical way that I didn't even really understand. Those expectations created a lot of pain and misery for me -- and then pain and misery for both of us. God's truth is our husband should love and honor us - but I can't find anything about making us happy or completing us (TRUST me I've tried!) The truth is we're responsible for our feelings. What expectations do you have for your spouse? Is he exceeding, meeting or failing them miserably? The truth is our many expectations end up creating us a lot of unhappiness. Here's a great question to ask yourself. What if you dropped ALL your expectations and just realized your spouse was there for you to love? How would that transform your relationship? The good news? You can! Join me to learn how we can ALL fall in love with our spouse all over again - maybe in a way you never thought possible. An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. Proverbs 31:10
I have a confession to make. I am a recovering people pleaser - and I still struggle with it today. As my faith has grown, I've discovered there's a very fine line between people pleasing vs. loving and serving others as God calls us to. So here's my question for you today. How do you know when you're taking action for all the right reasons or all the wrong reasons? The wrong reasons? To gain others love, acceptance, and approval. The right reasons? Because you truly want to from a place of love. The truth is people pleasing is a big fat lie -- both to yourself and to those you're doing it for. And a life filled with people pleasing leads to many negative emotions like resentment, guilt, overwhelm, and obligation. What I've figured out is it's important to take some time to think about how this applies to your life and the things you do for others. You might be surprised by what you discover. Join me to learn how to determine if you're people pleasing or loving others and - if you discover you're people pleasing - what steps you can take to change that. Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant. Galatians 1:10
Do you struggle giving yourself the same grace you freely give to others? Don't worry - you're not alone. We all create this perfect, ideal image in our brain of what our human life should look like. Then when it inevitably falls short, we blame and beat ourselves up. And our brain doesn't do us any favors because it's constantly pointing out other women who seem to be living that perfect, ideal life we want. So it's telling you it's a YOU problem. But that's a lie. All you're seeing is their highlights. There's a healthy alternative to this destructive thought pattern - it's called giving yourself grace. You can do exactly that through understanding how God designed our human experience and by simply controlling things fully within your control - like your thoughts. Join me to learn God's truths about this and 3 steps you can start implementing in your life today to give yourself grace. But he answered me, “My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness...” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Are you constantly trying to bring more comfort into your life? For many of us that's our default mode. And the world provides so many convenient and easy options to avoid and numb ourselves anytime we feel any discomfort. Food, alcohol, Netflix, social media, online shopping to name a few. The truth? Our discomfort actually has very important messages for us. But when we avoid and numb ourselves from it we're unable to receive those messages. We're not living the full human experience God designed us to have. Worse of all, we aren't able to respond appropriately to our discomfort -- and doing that is THE path to our most abundant, thriving human life. Join me to learn how God uses discomfort to communicate with us and how to respond appropriately rather than trying to avoid and escape it. Consider it pure joy...whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4
Do you have a "that" person in your life? You know that person you can never see eye-to-eye or get along with. Or that person that always pushes your buttons - leaving you upset and on-edge. Well here's something amazing I have to share with you. You're always in control of the relationship - and these people can teach you so much about yourself. In fact, that might be the very reason God has placed them in your life. Instead of showing up angry, defensive, frustrated, or apathetic - we can show up exactly how we want to. And doing that will be a relationship game-changer - no matter how difficult it is. Join me to learn how you can start doing this in all your difficult relationships. Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. James 1:19
Do you ever see this thought pop in your head? You should be doing ALL the things right NOW! Well hello primitive default brain. Thanks for sharing that thought with us. Here's the problem - it's ALWAYS a lie. And there's a great reason it tries to feed us this lie. Because it knows what that thought leads to. Overwhelm, exhaustion, confusion - a desire to give up and do nothing. So what can you do? We overcome this lie with the prefrontal rational brain God gifted us with. We put the power of constraint to work in our lives. We prioritize and focus on what's most important now because we know that's what will lead to real progress and success. And we know we'll have time for the next priority after that. A focused brain drives empowering thoughts and feelings that produce real action and the results you truly desire. A scattered brain produces jumbled thoughts and feelings that lead to actions that fail to move the needle and deliver real results. Join me to learn how you can start applying the power of constraint to your life and create the real results you desire. Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you. Look neither right nor left; leave evil in the dust. Proverbs 4:25 MSG
God's design of our human bodies is so incredibly detailed and intricate. This includes how they tell us when we're hungry and how they produce energy. The problem is our bodies can lose touch with our natural hunger signals. They can struggle to utilize both of their fuel sources. When we better understand God's amazing design, we can better understand how to properly care for it. God's truth is our human body is a special gift from Him -- and He wants us to be good stewards of all His gifts. These dots are easy to connect. The better we care for our bodies, the more vitality and energy we'll experience in our human lives. And who doesn't want that? Join me to learn what drives our over-hunger and how you have full control to start changing this in your life today. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous... Psalm 139:14
Do you ever feel like you're not in control when you eat? There's a reason for that -- our overdesire for food -- and how that conditions us to eat whether we want to or not. The world today makes it very easy to get there because... ...we're always surrounded by delicious tasting food ...food is an acceptable escape from our negative emotions ...the food we turn to creates a response in our brain that tells us it's very important to have again. See how this becomes a self-perpetuating cycle? Before long we're eating on autopilot without any awareness of why or how much we're eating. But like almost everything in our human life, we have a choice. We can simply shrug our shoulders or we can build awareness and understanding that will enable us to grow and change. Join me for this podcast to learn 4 effective steps you can follow to start changing this in your life today. It's not good to eat too much honey, and it's not good to seek honors for yourself. Proverbs 25:27
So many of us spend WAY too much time on this one thing. Worrying about and trying to control other people's opinions about us. Why? Because... ...our primal default brain tells us it's REALLY important (actually it's not) ...we think we can (but we really can't). ...we overestimate how much other people think about us (they're mostly thinking about themselves). What this creates is your own personal charade - a watered down and inauthentic version of you - that you feel you have to keep up. Which makes it difficult - if not impossible - to live a life true to you, the life you want, the abundant life God has planned for you. Confession time! I spent most of my previous life in this mode but it allowed God to show me His truth and now share it with you. So listen to this podcast to learn how you can start living a life true to you - no matter what others think. It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe. Proverbs 29:25
There was a time in my life when the only thing I was truly excited about was going out with friends. One guess what I spent WAY too much time of my life thinking about and doing back then? You guessed it - going out with friends. And when it came to making real changes to my life to create a life filled with excitement, purpose, and passion - I was at a loss. I had no idea it was even possible, yet alone how to make it happen. Now I know - and I also know this is a gift God freely gives to all of us. You have EVERYTHING you need right now to make the same happen in your life. I understand why you might not believe that, because I didn't believe it back then either. That's why I'm committed to be an example to show you how you can do this and how this is something God strongly desires for us in our human lives. One amazing God-given tool to help you do this is to recall your forgotten childhood skill of imagination. Imagine the person you want to become and the exciting life that person is living. Our brains much prefer to live in our past - that always leads to more of the same. When you imagine an exciting future and commit to learning how to grow into your future self, you'll discover how much wisdom that person can share with you TODAY! You'll instantly start bringing more excitement, passion, and purpose into your life. Join me on this podcast to find out how to apply this to your human life -- a life filled with so many possibilities -- and God's truths about it. "So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And I tell you, ask, and it will" Jesus in Mark 11:24
Quick! Think of ALL the amazing possibilities in your life you're excited about. Did you struggle to think of anything? Did it take some time to come up with one or two things? If so, understand there are very good reasons why this happens to many of us as we age...BUT also be aware you're likely living your life with a scarcity mindset. Why should you care? Because a scarcity mindset... ...creates a smaller world with limited possibilities ...makes us stagnate and keeps us stuck ...tells us this is how life is going to be and there's nothing we can do about it ...is not God's truth Does any of that resonate with you? God doesn't put limits on us, we put limits on ourselves (with the help of our primitive, default brain). Join me on this podcast to find out what mindset you're living with and how you can start to recapture an abundance mindset that will re-ignite your excitement for the oh-so-many possibilities available to you in your amazing human life! "And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." Jesus in Luke 11:9
When you think about that "thing" you've been meaning to get to in your life, do you hear the lie in your head - you can't do that??? So many of us do and it's because our default brain is always trying to keep us safe in our comfort zone. And our default brain loves to point to all the past evidence it has to make you believe this sneaky lie. Evidence like your past failures, evidence like you haven't done this before. But you know what - it's ALWAYS a lie. You can succeed where you've failed before, you can do things you haven't done before. And I know that's true - because once you really stop and think about it - you'll find plenty of evidence that you've already done that in your life - despite what your default brain tries to tell you. Join me on this podcast to hear how you've already proven you can do that and what you can do to make that a reality in any area you're struggling to believe that in today! ..."Embrace this God-life. Really embrace it, and nothing will be too much for you. That's why I urge you to pray for absolutely everything, ranging from small to large. Include everything as you embrace this God-life, and you'll get God's everything." Jesus in Mark 11:24 MSG
There's one emotion that's SO powerful it makes everything in our lives better. Yet most of us don't understand this, so we don't apply it to our lives. Our default brain confuses us to believe this feeling will make us complacent and content. It tells us if we feel this, then we won't respond to the desires God puts on our heart. So instead we use the opposite approach to try to motivate ourselves to do the things we want to do. But that approach doesn't work because it feels terrible, it's exhausting, and eventually it makes us quit. Do you know what this feeling is??? Join me on this podcast to learn what it is, how you can assess if you need more of it in your life, and how you can start feeling it more today! ...And regardless of what else you put on, wear (insert feeling here). It's your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Colossians 3:12 MSG
We weren't created to always feel happy, great, or excited. I talk a lot about God's 50/50 for our human life - He purposefully created us to experience both negative and positive emotions. If we fail to understand that, then when we experience lots of negative emotions we start thinking there's something wrong with us, we start feeling bad about feeling bad, and we seek out comfort and short-term pleasures to resist those negative feelings. We can learn how to create more of the feelings we want to have in our life, but another very important skill to learn is how to allow our feelings - ALL of them. That's such an important skill for our human life because our feelings drive our actions so if we're constantly having a bunch of crappy feelings, we're continually going to be taking a bunch of crappy actions When we learn to allow our feelings -- it's not only easier to create more empowering feelings -- it's also easier to take constructive actions even when negative feelings show up. Join me and learn how to allow your feelings so you can better control both your feelings and your reactions to them. There is a time to weep. And there's a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad. And there's a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:4 NIRV
How many times have you been told to "think positive"? "Think positive" is how the world tells us to change our thoughts. Seems so simple, right? But our real-life experience tells us otherwise. The problem is this teaches us to resist the negative thoughts we are having -- and resistance is NEVER the solution. What we resist persists. Resisting our thoughts drives them into our subconscious and makes them show back up with even more intensity. Ready for the awesome news? God does give us the ability to control our thoughts, but it's a multi-step process. Through His gift of our prefrontal cortex, we can build awareness of what we're thinking, we can understand why we're thinking it, and THEN we can start thinking thoughts that serve us rather than hold us back. This is a meta-skill to living our best human lives that so many of us never learn, yet alone put into practice. So join me as I share exactly how you can start having more empowering thoughts that move and serve you - right where you are today. It just might change your life like it did mine. We break down every thought and proud thing that puts itself up against the wisdom of God. We take hold of every thought and make it obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 NLV
I want to share the biggest light bulb moment I've ever experienced in my life: I have full control over both my thoughts and my feelings. Not my husband. Not my mom. Not my kids (if I had any) Not my boss. Not my friends. Not the person making me feel small, dump or like I don't know what I'm doing. I - and only I - have full control over my thoughts and my feelings - and that is the BEST NEWS EVER. Because if you understand God's model for your human life, then you know that means, along with God, it's YOU and only YOU who controls your life on this earth. You control the actions you take or don't take, you control the results you experience in your life. If you're like me and didn't know this - don't beat yourself up - because this is NOT what the world teaches us. The world teaches us it's other people and our circumstances that control our thoughts and feelings. So that's how many of us live our lives and it's why so many of us have this strong desire to control everything - because we believe that's how we will feel better. Unfortunately there's many things in our earthly life we can't control so that leads to us feeling helpless and powerless. Join me for this podcast as I share the truth about this and how Emotional Adulthood is the path to living your most empowered life. People who cannot control themselves are like cities without walls to protect them. Proverbs 27:28 ERV
We all experience urges in our life... ...to eat the chocolate ...to drink the wine ...to pick up our phone and check social ...to binge watch the latest Netflix series ...to not do the thing we know we should do. How are you responding to the urges in your life? Many of the urges we have feel so strong that it feels like we aren't even in control of them. We're reacting to them without thinking about it and before we even realize what we're doing. And when we try to resist, the urge grows stronger until we feel like the only solution to make it go away is to give into it. The great news is God gives you everything you need to control your urge. And it all starts with awareness and understanding. Once you know where they come from and why you have them, then you can choose how you want to respond to them. Join me for this podcast as I share how you can start responding the way you truly want to ALL the urges you have in your life today. Everyone is tempted by their own cravings; they are lured away and enticed by them. James 1:14 CEB 100 Days to Change (Join me!) Self-confidence is something we all want but we're not sure how to get. I know because I had BIG-TIME struggles with my self-confidence in the past. And here's the thing I can see so clearly now - allowing those struggles to persist NEVER served me. True self-confidence serves us in so many ways... ...it keeps us moving forward even through our doubts and fears ...it allows us to show up for ourselves regardless of our circumstances ...it helps us stay true to our authentic selves when we interact with others ...it help us avoid feeling stuck in our lives. Many of us believe self-confidence is something we're born with - we either have it or we don't. The great news? It isn't - it's actually a skill each of us can develop and create for ourselves. The other great news? God wants us to do this and be confident. Join me for this podcast as I share more about how you can start creating more self-confidence in your life today. The positive impact of doing this will be felt in ALL areas! So we can say with great confidence: “I know the Lord is for me and I will never be afraid of what people may do to me!" I'm not sure about your experience in our world today but I see so many negative emotions - anger, frustration, outrage - driving people to treat others poorly. How do you respond to the things you see going on around you? Do you allow yourself to go along for the ride and follow the wave - OR are you being intentional in charting your own path. What do you think God's message is for us in this? I believe it's that we have the opportunity right now to be the light for everyone we touch in our daily lives more than ever. But to do that we have to live our lives with intention. Now you might be thinking - I get that, but based on ALL the things I'm having to deal with in my life right now that just doesn't feel doable for me. If that's you, I've got the perfect message to share today. Join me as I talk about important steps you can take in your life so you can start showing up exactly how you want to show up for other people. You can start being that light for others. That light they so desperately need. And the rewards of doing this are many - for them and for YOU! ...let your light shine before people in such a way that they will see your good actions and glorify your Father in heaven. How many times do you feel like a lack of true authentic support has held you back in your life? God did not create us to do life alone, so when we lack real connection that can happen. The connection and support we need in our life is out there and ready for us, we just have to be willing to look for it and find it. And when we do - step 2 is plug ourselves actively into it. No more sitting and hiding in the back row. You are too valuable and important! You're God's VIP that deserves to have a front-row seat. Join me on this podcast as I talk about the power of true connection and how to bring it into your life - as well as a bonus tip on how you can start receiving more support TODAY from the people you want it from the most - those closest to you. Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Your past is completely fixed, right? What's done is done, can't change it even if you wanted to. So we just shrug our shoulders and do our best to forget about it and carry on. What if I told you that's not entirely true - would that be something you'd be interested in learning about? My past contains plenty of skeletons I wish didn't exist, so learning how to do this was instrumental to helping me make massive changes in my life. Join me on this podcast as I share how you CAN change your past and how doing that might just be the key to making real and lasting change in your life today. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 2 Corinthians 5:17 100 Days to Change (Join me!) Other people may make change look effortless, but the truth? It's not. It seems easy because we're just seeing them AFTER their change - not the struggle it took to get there. Why is change hard? It's part of God's design for our human life. By understanding this AND understanding how God also gave us everything we need to overcome that, we can learn how to make real change a reality in our lives. In ANY area of our life - relationships, health, job, money, job. The other truth about change? God wants us to change. He tells us that through His word and communicates that to us by the specific desires He puts on our heart. Are there changes you want to make in your life but you're stuck in the struggle? (I know I've been there oh-so-many times.) Then join me - not just for this podcast - but also in my 100 Days to Change group (join my private FB group by going to https://www.facebook.com/groups/100daystochange.) In there, I'm sharing everything I've learned about change - AND all my real-time struggles as I push through 2 new BIG changes I'm making in my life. This week I'm revealing the #1 reason change is hard - and how you can overcome it. Let's change together! And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed and progressively changed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 AMP
Do you see this thought in your life? I'm not...good enough, smart enough, skinny enough, beautiful enough - simply not enough. Oh man, I know I have more times than I even care to imagine or admit. Here's God's message for you, for me, for every woman alive on this planet. YOU. ARE. ENOUGH. Done - there's nothing more that needs to be said, right? I wish! There is more because of how quickly we forget and twist that message to not apply to us - at least not today, not this week, not in this chapter in our lives. Before we know that message ends up becoming not in my life period. Today I'm sharing why we do this, why many times these thoughts don't even seem controllable, and - most importantly - how you can start living out God's truth about this in your life. Because here's the thing in His abundant life, we are ALWAYS enough!! For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13 100 Days to Real Change (Join me!) I'm ready for more real change in my life and I'm going to share everything with you - the good, the bad and the ugly - with God at the center of it. I wish I could tell you I never struggle with anxiety - but I can't. In fact it's been a regular, unwanted companion most of my life. What I've learned the last few years has allowed me to recognize it for what it really is and that was the beginning to my path of overcoming it. Today I'm sharing with you all the ways I'm learning to conquer my anxiety so you can do the same with yours. Here are a few important things to know about anxiety. It always wants us to believe it's very important - it's not. Our natural response is to try to resist it but that increases its power. God wants us to give ALL our anxiety to Him so don't hide yours in shame -- invite Him in! God uses emotions like anxiety as signals in our life so it's important we don't ignore them. It's also important we include Him in our struggles with it. But excess worry and anxiety is not part of God's long-term plan for our abundant life so let's go conquer it with Him! As a recovering anxiety card-carrying member, I'd love to hear your experiences and what ways you've discovered works best for you. Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 100 Days to Real Change (Join me!) Are you ready for REAL change? Change that lasts. Do your relationships feel stale or distant? Do you feel more like a roommate with your spouse than a wife? Today we're going to extend the discussion we had about our relationship manuals last week to how we can build thriving relationships with anyone, BUT especially those people in your life you want to experience deep authentic connection with. God built us to love and to connect deeply with others so if you're not doing this you're missing a fundamental piece of the abundant life He promised us. Join me as I share 5 steps on how you can start making this a reality in your life and the best news is it's ALL in your control! ...Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. 1 Corinthians 13:5 TLB
Do you know you have an owner's manual for how other people in your life are supposed to act? Your significant other, your kids, your friends, your boss - everyone in your life. This manual comes from your belief systems - formed from all your thoughts and experiences over your lifetime. These manuals lead to problems in our relationships. First, your human nature is going to be to to respond negatively when someone doesn't follow the manual you have for them. Second, this happens frequently because everyone has their own unique belief systems. Third, when this happens it can lead to you trying to control that person's behavior. WARNING: Other adults don't like to be controlled and you can't actually control what other adults ultimately do so this will make you feel desperate and helpless. Join me this week to learn all about our manuals and how we can manage them to improve our relationships. Love from the center of who you are; don't fake it. Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life to good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice playing second fiddle. Romans 12:10 MSG
Do you notice you're really quick to invite God into certain areas of your life but not others? Here's what I see in my life. I'm quick to bring Him into the big areas - my salvation, my health, the health and salvation of the ones I love. But the smaller areas I struggle so much on a day-to-day basis? Not so much. Like negative habits I want to change, my relationships, my money, my thoughts and emotions that knock me off track. Many times I fail to bring God directly and fully into those - especially the way He wants me to. And He most definitely wants us to! So join me this week as I share: 3 primary reasons I think holds us back from doing that, why I'm convinced God wants us to bring EVERYTHING to Him - especially the smaller things holding us back, and how to start bringing Him and His truths into these areas of your life today. I know how this can change your life, because it's had such a dramatic impact on mine! ...Let EVERY detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way... Colossians 3:17 MSG
Stop and think for a moment how often you judge others? Is it a regular occurrence? If so, here's something you might not know - you're probably judging yourself even more. Our external reflects our internal, so the more we're doing something on the outside, the more we're doing it on the inside. And this is important to realize because the problem with our sneaky inner self-critic is it's normally buried in our subconscious thoughts so we're not aware of the impact it's having. An impact that usually includes holding us back from the abundant life God wants us to live. Join me today to learn about God's truths about our self-judgments and how it's possible to build real awareness and understanding of them that will help you move past them. But if we evaluated and judged ourselves honestly [recognizing our shortcomings and correcting our behavior], we would not be judged. 1 Corinthians 11:31
Fear is a powerful emotion at work in most of our lives. So here's an important question - do you know how it's working in yours? And do you know God's truths about fear and what He says about how it should impact your life? God's truth is we can overcome all our fears through Him. God's truth is also that He designed us in a way that makes fear a very real and natural part of our lives, so we have to rely on Him to help us move through them. Join me on today's podcast to learn how fear made me play small for many years, how our brain's natural design produces fear - and how through God's gifts we can overcome ALL of them. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Quick - what do you say when someone asks you how you are doing? Let me guess - fine or busy - or probably both. I know that's what I do but I'm trying hard to change that. Are you mired in busyness? Do you struggle to find space for what's truly important in your life? Do you find yourself constantly overwhelmed and exhausted? Do you feel like there's no way you can take on one more thing in your life? That's NOT God's plan for your life. God doesn't want us to live our lives so focused on the unimportant that we struggle to find time for what's truly important. Like Him, our loved ones, taking care of ourselves so we can truly be there for others, and the desires He specifically places on our heart. Listen to His truth about this. Don't waste your time on useless work, mere busywork. So watch your step. Use your head. Make the most of every chance you get. Don't live carelessly, unthinkingly. Make sure you understand what the Master wants. The world's figured out oh-so-many ways for us to get absorbed, distracted, and comfortable with the unimportant. And I discovered how true this was for me in my journey and how God gives us the ability to change that. Join me to hear more about how to create more space in your life for what's God-pleasing, not world-pleasing. “Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Jesus in Luke 10:41-42
I know what God says about who I am. But I still find myself often lost somewhere between what I know and what I think. I believe that sums up the struggle most of us have with consistently loving ourselves unconditionally. So this week I dive into how we can move past that. How we can live God's truth about who we are on more than just our good days. Spoiler alert! I think the place for us to start is to focus on God's first greatest commandment. Doing that will give us more thoughts that lead to feelings of love. Doing that will create more actions in our life from love. The way we love God is closely connected to the way we view and love ourselves. And the way we view and love ourselves is closely connected to the way we view and love others. I'm working hard on this so join me on this podcast to hear more about how to love yourself like God wants you to. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
This week's podcast topic is close to my heart...literally. A few years ago when I went on a mission to grow myself I realized my love wasn't unconditional. I only loved myself when I thought I earned it, when I deserved it. The problem is there's plenty of times in life when our default brain is quick to tell us we don't deserve it. What happens then? You beat yourself up, you bully yourself - you find yourself in an emotional state that leads to destructive actions. I know that's what I do - and it never leads to anything positive. God's truth tells us our external reflects our internal. So if we struggle to love ourselves unconditionally we're going to struggle to give or receive unconditional love from others. Luckily God also gives us the perfect example of love. God is love. Growing to be more like Him includes learning to love ourselves. And that is something I'm still a work-in-progress on. Join me on this podcast to hear my journey and how to know if this is holding you back in your life. Register to join me for my FREE 5-Day challenge: Lose Weight God's Way (https://bit.ly/loseweightgodsway) starting March 29th. I can't wait to do this together!!
