Mahāvīra Biography Series | Dr. Pankaj JainThe Mahāvīra Biography Series explores the life, philosophy, and civilisational impact of Bhagavān Mahāvīra, the 24th Tīrthaṅkara of the Jain tradition and one of the greatest spiritual revolutionaries of India. Through research-grounded storytelling and historical analysis, this documentary series situates Mahāvīra within the broader framework of Dharma — a living civilisational ethos shaping ethics, knowledge systems, and spiritual traditions across India for over 2,500 years. In Episode 7, we explore:• What happened after Mahāvīra's Nirvāṇa • The early Jain saṅgha and its organisation • The Jain councils and preservation of teachings • The formation of the Jain canon (Āgamas) • The spread of Jain Dharma across regions of India. This episode reveals how Mahāvīra's teachings were preserved, debated, and transmitted by generations of monks, nuns, and lay communities. Far from fading after his Nirvāṇa, Jain Dharma evolved into a sophisticated intellectual and ethical tradition with rich textual, philosophical, and institutional foundations. By examining councils, oral traditions, and the eventual compilation of scriptures, Episode 7 highlights the dynamic processes through which Dharma is sustained across time.About the Presenter: Dr. Pankaj Jain is Director of The India Centre and Professor & Head of Humanities & Languages at FLAME University. Even going to Jaipur—it was like one of those bumpy roads that we went on yesterday, but for the whole way. Now it's nicer, but it still takes an extra eight hours to go to Karaulī. But going to see Madana-mohana there is a heartfelt experience—to see the devotees and how they love that Deity. Madana-mohana represents attraction to the spiritual world; this is sambandha-jñāna. In many philosophical systems, there is no conception of attraction. There is only renunciation. Dry renunciation of the material world means: "Because I've been victimized again and again by my senses and by the sense objects, I decide that I will cultivate detachment and become free from the tyranny of my senses." Some take it a step further and they say, "Let me have no senses. Let me become nothing." In the concept of Nirvāṇa, as given by some, there is a candle flame; if you blow it out, then there is no candle flame. The idea is that the experience we're having now in this world—that I'm conscious, I'm aware, I love, I hate, I have emotions—is all the process of material nature. It's happenstance. And by my meditation, I'll come to a point of realizing that I'm not that awareness. I'm not anything. I'm not part of the process; I'm not the process; there is no process. There isn't anything, and I'll achieve nothingness. But even that nomenclature is the problem. Consciousness is something you cannot deny, because as soon as you deny, it is an act of consciousness. Therefore, Kṛṣṇa in the Bhagavad-gītā says (BG 3.5): na hi kaścit kṣaṇam api jātu tiṣṭhaty akarma-kṛt kāryate hy avaśaḥ karma sarvaḥ prakṛti-jair guṇaiḥ The soul is always active. We want something, and especially, we want love. So Madana-mohana brings the clarion call to us: "I am your beloved. Here, you can become attracted, and you don't have to fear the loss of our relationship." Prabhupāda tells about how, when we approach Kṛṣṇa—in Deity worship, the arcana process—it is so sweet and personal that sometimes the servitor installs the Deity and worships in such a heartfelt way that the relationship is so "thick." He mentions in a purport that after that servitor passes away, the Deity performs the piṇḍa ceremony for His servitor out of love for the servant. So, when we come to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, we are not left with nothing, or we are not asked to recede into the void. As we say, "namas te sārasvate deve gaura-vāṇī-pracāriṇe"—we are hearing Gaura-vāṇī—"nirviśeṣa-śūnyavādi-pāścātya-deśa-tāriṇe." Śrīla Prabhupāda relieved us of that Where's the entry place? It's Madana-mohana. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------

Pero ang sabi sa Proverbs 24:16 (NIRV), “Even if godly people fall down seven times, they always get up.” No one is exempt from troubles, but God promises a rebound. If we trust in God, we can expect Him to be with us as we pass through the storm, protect us while we are in the middle of it, and lead us out of it. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying, 9 ‘If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.'2 Chronicles 20:14-17 NIV14 Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. 15 He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! God doesnt have you wait for no reason, majority of the time its for a valid reason."Women of Jerusalem, make me a promise. Don't stir up love. Don't wake it up until it's ready.” (Song of Solomon 8:4 NIRV). " Do not go around trying to be God, keep your hand off of his stuff. Remember, your spouse is God's son or daughter before they are your Husband or Wife. God can turn things around when you have faith in Him and trust His plan for your life. The wait can make you more observant on things you don't see in the spiritual.

We suggest about 5 different practices you can do to celebrate Śrāvaṇa, the month of Śiva:1. Vratam. Many people will observing vows like abstaining from a particular kind of food (salt, sugar, pickles etc.) or observing sunrise-sunset fasts or keeping vigils etc. Generally, these vows are observed on all the Mondays of this śrāvana period and so it is often called the Śrāvaṇa Somavara Vrātam (The Monday Observance of Śrāvaṇa) since Mondays are sacred to Lord Śiva. You can decide just what kind of thing to offer or to abstain from as part of your vrāta, vow, just whatever that is do-able and reasonable and makes spiritual sense and is spiritually nourishing to you. This is a bit like the Christian concept of lent, I suppose. 2. Japa (Puraścarana). You can pledge to chant a certain number of repetitions of your dīkshā mantra or any śiva mantra that you like (we often suggest the pancakshara mantra) every day during this period or just on the Mondays. When we systematically chant a certain number of mantras daily for a fixed period of time, we call that "puraścarana". Generally, we recommend that we sit in the same place, at the same time when we do our chanting and generally we suggests that you chant on a rudrāksha-mālā since those beads are sacred to Śiva. You get to decide what number you'd like to pledge, whatever number that is do-able and reasonable and spiritually nourishing for you. 3. Pūjā. Every Monday (or if you want, every day) during this period you can perform a pañcāmrita pūjā and/or a pañcopacāra-pūjā to your Shiva lingam or murti. We demonstrate this simple and elegant pūjā towards the end of this video but you can find all the mantras in Sanskrit with transliteration and translation as well as the ritual procedure in the description of this video. 4. Kirtana/Bhajana. A chanting practice is very beautiful and nourishing since it is essentially, like pūjā, a celebration! Perhaps you might decide to chant some hymns to Shiva on the Mondays or every day; you might simply commit to learning (and memorizing) a specific hymn that you like. (l) Nirvāna-śatakam 5. Karma Yoga. And our favorite practice of all as part of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda lineage: worshipping Shiva in the form of the jīva, the embodied soul. As Christ said "that which you do unto the least of ye, you do unto me", the best possible pūjā is to actually serve everyone (including plants & animals & spirits & what not) in a spirit of worship. Never think you are helping anyone. Instead, feel that everyone is giving you an opportunity to worship God by coming to you for help. Don't feel that they owe you any gratitude for your having helped them. Rather, you be grateful to them for giving you the opportunity to worship God through them. In this way, your work, your daily tasks, all become transformed into Śiva-pūjā. This is the acme of non-duality, to recognize each movement of life as an encounter with the divine!May all beings, who are none other than Shiva, worship Shiva! Hara Hara Mahadeva!

Although Nibbāna is beyond all description and can not possibly comprehended by the thinking mind through language and concepts, the Buddha still used various similes to convey some idea to us what Nirvāṇa is all about. In particular, many times he compared the eperience of Nibbāna to a fire gone out. However, there's a big problem with that simile nowadays: Our current understanding how fire functions is very different from the theory of fire in ancient India. In our time, after a fire has gone out, we simply regard it as non-existant. But that would be a serious misunderstanding regarding the experience of Nibbāna. The statement that an enlightened person after death doesn't exist anymore has been explicitely rejected by the Buddha as not applicable (of course, to state that he exists is just as inapplicable). In ancient India, fire was regarded as 'clinging' to the fuel dependent on which it burns. When the fire goes out (e.g. through exhaustion of its fuel), the fire is released and enters a non-manifest state. Indian's at the time of the Buddha would not see an extinguished fire as non-existant. Instead, they believed an extinguished fire is simply freed from its entrapment to the fuel, and has entered a state in which it can't be defined or described. Many people these days have become immune to evil. But why? "They have lost all feeling for what is right. They have given themselves over to the evil pleasures of their bodies. They take part in every kind of unclean act. And they always long for more" (Ephesians 4:19, NIRV)
Spirituality allows us to see and believe in the world beyond the physical. God has a rich and satisfying plan for our lives, but it often means living differently than the culture around us. It's very easy to compromise our convictions or change who we are to fit in with what we see. Spirituality not only resists the pressure to fit in with the world but also rises above it. Listen to this Scripture Playlist to learn how to resist the culture of peer pressure so we can live the great life God has planned for us. Secrets can destroy things. Like the home that the Overton sisters shared with their parents Frank and Nancy near Atlantic City. The fire that killed the girl's parents was ruled an arson. Could it be possible that secrets drove one of the sisters to torch their family's home? Welcome to another episode of The Unlovely Truth. I'm your host, private investigator Lori Morrison. Join me for another captivating true crime story, where physical, spiritual, and emotional safety takeaways are waiting for us. This is Season 5, Episode 8. Our book this week is “The Fire She Set” and our guest is Phyllis Mantelli. We will check in with Phyllis after we investigate this fascinating book. We'll also talk about ideas for how anyone can be what I call a different kind of P.I. - not a private investigator like me but a person of impact in your community. In June of 1974, Leigh Overton Boyd was just 17 years old, the oldest of four sisters. Her world was turned upside down when the condo where her family was living caught fire in the middle of the night. She escaped, and so did her sisters, but both of Leigh's parents died in the fire. As if that wasn't enough tragedy for them all to deal with, rumors began to swirl that one of the girls purposely set the fire. Attorneys were hired and a lie detector test was given to at least one of the sisters. No one was ever charged in Frank and Nancy's deaths. Leigh was on the brink of adulthood and ready to move into another phase of life. Years passed and the sisters rarely brought up that night. But secrets don't always stay secrets. Not when someone is determined to know the truth. Proverbs 14:1 ICB A wise woman strengthens her family. But a foolish woman destroys hers by what she does. Sometimes what we call foolishness is really rebelliousness. Even accounting for the potential that Nancy was dealing with some form of mental illness, she had lucid periods where she put herself and her own desires above the needs of her children. She did have opportunities to strengthen her family to the extent she was able. When those chances were ignored too many times, tragedy followed. But did she have the support she needed to make the most of those opportunities? The book made it pretty clear that her husband felt like he'd done what he could but it wasn't too terribly effective. Neighbors and family members knew. There's even a scene in the book where store clerks watched Nancy forget one of her kids in a store, come back drunk, and drive away with her. No one intervened. Paul tells the church in Galatians 6:2, in the NIrV, “Carry one another's heavy loads. If you do, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Between addiction, possible mental illness, and having several young children to raise it seems as though having someone help bear her burdens might have made quite a difference. We aren't meant to do life alone, but rather in community. Who in your community has a heavy load that you can help lighten? Your help might open a door to share Jesus with them. Nothing beats the adrenaline rush of being motivated to make a change, but how do you make that change last? Lasting change is hard for us humans, but it's not hard for God. In fact, it's one of the greatest things about having a relationship with God; God's incredible power is always available to us, and it can change us from the inside out. The book of Acts in the Bible tells us about regular people who relied on God to help them change. Their change not only lasted but also caught the attention of people around them, who caught the vision that God could help them change too. So what do you want to change? Let's learn from the first Christians in Acts 2 how to let God's incredible power change us from the inside out.
