This week on The Sports Agents...Gabby and Mark were live from Lords Cricket Ground this week for the launch of the 2026 Women's T20 Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. They spoke to World Rugby Player of the Year, Ellie Kildunne, about their own home World Cup this summer, the new trend for celebrations, and the cowboy craze (01:15). At Lords we also caught up with the new Head Coach of the England women's cricket team, Charlotte Edwards. Her task is to take the team from an Ashes whitewash to a home World Cup victory - so how's she going to pull that off? (20:30)After Liverpool won the Premier League (sorry Mark!) we marvelled at the smooth handover from talisman Juergen Klopp to Premier League newbie Arne Slot with Football Correspondent for the Sunday Times, Jonathan Northcroft, and John Gibbons from the Anfield Wrap (09:30). Tennis players are suing the governing bodies over prize money, "invasive" phone searches and more. So we caught up with the man behind the lawsuit, Ahmad Nassar, Executive Director of the Professional Tennis Players Association (15:30). Liverpool have won the Premier League and Arne Slot showed us all how a handover should be done. Turns out, replacing a talismanic figure like Juergen Klopp who won 8 trophies over 9 years, needn't be the mess that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and countless other clubs have made of it in recent years. So how did Arne Slot in so well? Gabby and Mark speak to the Football Correspondent for the Sunday Times, Jonathan Northcroft, and John Gibbons from The Anfield Wrap. (11:25)Is tennis in for a shake up after a giant lawsuit? The man behind the lawsuit, Ahmad Nassar, the Executive Director of the Professional Tennis Players Association, explains why they're suing tennis' governing bodies over prize money, schedules, "invasive search of personal devices" and more. (31:39)And after a huge weekend of sport Gabby and Mark reflect on England's Grand Slam at the Six Nations, the synergy between Arsenal women's and men's Champions League success, the father-son drama at the Eubank-Benn fight, and how hot it must have been wearing a rhino costume at the London Marathon. Ben and Tumaini reconvene to try to make sense of the big lawsuit filed by the PTPA and a group of lesser-known players against the powers-that-be in tennis, what we make of the organization, and this big swing they're taking after years of not being recognized. What do we make of the PTPA's 163-page laundry list of claims? What points resonate and which don't? And is there an inconsistency between their purported purpose for players and the arguments they're making? (You can also read Ben's interview with PTPA executive director Ahmad Nassar.) After spending the first 40 minutes on that, we discuss other topics that have emerged in the past week or so, including Novak Djokovic's image being frequently used by right-wing politicians, the current ATP inconsistency, Emma Raducanu's struggles and resurgence, and Naomi Osaka's trajectory. We end with a melancholy happy trails to author John Feinstein, and lots of love for NCR's dear Courtney.  Thank you for listening! Our Patreon is back up and running to ensure NCR keeps going and stays ad-free, and we hope you can join in supporting NCR! And we especially thank our GOAT backers: Pam Shriver and J. O'D. And please check out Ben's new writing home, Bounces! And Tumaini's work at The Guardian!

Gill Gross dissects the bombshell class action lawsuit filed by the PTPA (Professional Players Association) targeting the ATP, WTA, ITF and ITIA. We'll try to answer all the essential questions: Why is the lawsuit happening, what does it claim, do the complaints have merit, and how might this play out longterm? I am not an employee of the ATP, nothing I say represents the ATP… I am sometimes contracted by the ATP for commentary services. My opinions are completely my own. Below I'll attach official statements from the most relevant parties: PTPA: "Tennis is broken," Ahmad Nassar, the executive director of the PTPA, said in a statement. "Behind the glamorous veneer that the defendants promote, players are trapped in an unfair system that exploits their talent, suppresses their earnings, and jeopardizes their health and safety." WTA: “The PTPA's action is both regrettable and misguided, and we will defend our position vigorously in due course. The WTA is fully committed to continuing to develop and evolve the structure and operations of professional women's tennis, listening closely as always to the views of our players. Contesting this baseless legal case will divert time, attention, and resources from our core mission to the detriment of our players and the sport as a whole.” ATP: "While ATP has remained focused on delivering reforms that benefit players at multiple levels, the PTPA has consistently chosen division and distraction through misinformation over progress.Five years on from its inception in 2020, the PTPA has struggled to establish a meaningful role in tennis, making its decision to pursue legal action at this juncture unsurprising." Ahmad Nassar knows a thing or two about the commercial value of elite athletes. As founding chief executive of OneTeam Partners and the former president of NFL Players Inc., Nassar has helped develop group licensing opportunities and maximise the collective marketing potential of top stars across a range of major leagues in team sports.  Now, as executive director of the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), an independent player advocacy group set up by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil in 2020, Nassar is working to create new earning opportunities for male and female tennis players internationally. Installed in August, the American also doubles as chief executive of the Winners Alliance, the PTPA's for-profit commercial arm. In this episode, Nassar sheds light on what the PTPA is - and also what it isn't. On the agenda: -          The creation of the PTPA (23:47) -          Why tennis players need collective representation (26:55) -          Providing financial security and improving working conditions for players (29:36) -          The PTPA model and its place in tennis (35:15) -          What the Winners Alliance hopes to achieve (39:54) -          Structuring, valuing and negotiating group licensing agreements (44:02) -          Making money from the PTPA (54:50) -          Lessons from golf for the tennis status quo (57:46) Prior to George's conversation with Ahmad, SportsPro editorial director Michael Long dials in to discuss some of the big – and not-so-big - sports business stories of the week, including reports that Fenway Sports Group is looking to offload Premier League giants Liverpool (00:35), the NBA's latest private equity venture (07:58), and news of fresh investment in pickleball (12:25).
