Ben and Tumaini, eventually joined by Giri Nathan, discuss the ending of this 2025 U.S. Open, which concluded with Carlos Alcaraz dominating Jannik Sinner in a four-set victory to complete their third major final of the year. How much better is Alcaraz right now in this match-up? And what did Sinner reveal in his press conference during our intermission. We also discuss the elephant in the room for this final: the US Open return of Donald Trump, and the disruption his presence caused on site. We also talk about the women's tournament, which ended with most-improved Aryna Sabalenka defeating an impressive Amanda Anisimova, and also featured a resurgent Naomi Osaka reaching the semifinals. Thank you for listening! Our Patreon is back up and running to ensure NCR keeps going and stays ad-free, and we hope you can join in supporting NCR! Jimmy and Brett are joined once again by friend and tennis connoisseur Spencer Segura to break down all things US Open after attending the final weekend. Carlos Alcaraz has been amazing since Monte Carlo and continued his hot play in Flushing the past two weeks. He has now won 7 or the last 8 matches against Sinner and won his 6th major at just 22 years old. Djokovic is still the third best player in the world, he just can't beat Sinner and Alcaraz. Sabalenka was on a mission to win a slam after coming so close in the first 3 majors of the year. Beating 2 straight Americans to do so. Amanda Anisimova bounced back after her heartbreaking loss at Wimbledon. She has the game to win a major, and now has the experience to build on. shopify.com/connors for your $1 per month trial period Follow us on - Twitter - @AdvConnors @JimmyConnors @Brett_Connors Instagram - @AdvConnors @Bretterz @GolddoodIsabella Facebook - Jimmy Connors official Facebook page Leave your questions/topics/or links to stories you want us to talk about next week on Jimmy's official Facebook page. If you've been watching the US Open this year, chances are you'll have seen that there's been some drama on the court. There was a heated exchange between players Jelena Ostapenko and Taylor Townsend. Ostapenko has been fined in the past before for throwing her water bottle and knocking over a chair, after she lost a match. So today, we're talking about bad behaviour in tennis, and what the rules are for tennis players who throw things, shout, and even smash up their rackets. Someone who has seen many a Grand Slam spat in their time is Ben Rothenberg, former NYT tennis correspondent and writer behind the blog Bounces. He takes us through some top tennis meltdowns and explains why it's such a high pressure sport.Instagram: @bbcwhatintheworld Email: whatintheworld@bbc.co.uk WhatsApp: +44 330 12 33 22 6 Presenter: Hannah Gelbart Producers: Emily Horler and Chelsea Coates Editor: Verity Wilde
In this episode of their Serving Up Pitt volleyball podcast, Post-Gazette insider Abby Schnable and former Panthers player Cat Flood break down the team's performances from the past weekend against No. 25 TCU and No. 7 Arizona State. How did the Panthers look so dominant in two top-25 wins after an 0-2 start to the season? Why did the block improve so much and show its best performances in those two games at PPG Paints Arena? Which players are starting to fill the lineup around last season's AVCA Player of the Year Olivia Babcock? How can setter Brooke Mosher and Blaire Bayless keep improving after their breakout performances last weekend? And what does it say about the general state of college volleyball that the Panthers dropped from No. 3 to No. 9 in the rankings despite those performances? Our duo discusses those topics and more.

Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker look back on the Blue Jays' 12-9 win over the Cincinnati Reds, the bullpen limiting the damage, Louis Varland figuring it out, and José Berríos's waning confidence on the mound. Then, they get into how George Springer's season impacts his legacy, Framber Valdez seemingly intentionally crossing up his catcher, and their expectations for Shane Bieber in his third start. Later, Adam Ottavino (28:35), former pitcher and host of Baseball and Coffee, stops by to give his take on the Valdez/Salazar incident, the Jays' pitching potential, what it takes to get back to form after Tommy John surgery, and Canadian pitcher Jonah Tong impressing early after his Mets call-up.The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Ben and Tumaini check back in after the most-hyped match of this U.S. Open so far, in which Naomi Osaka soundly beat Coco Gauff to make it into her first major quarterfinal in more than four years. We discuss that match as well as the rest of the women's draw, including the Krejcikova-Townsend epic, and then turn to the men, in which Djokovic-Fritz is an intriguing match before what looks like (we think?) a pre-destined Sinner-Alcaraz final. It's a whistlestop episode for Ben and Tumaini, who had a train to catch late Friday night at the U.S. Open. We have a lot to catch up on, including the firestorm created by the Townsend-Ostapenko match and why that hit such a cultural nerve, the bizarre mess of a scene at Iga Swiatek's press conference (which the USTA deleted from the record), Altmaier's avoidance of Tsitsipas' drama, chatter around Carlos Alcaraz's hair, Coco Gauff's struggles, Naomi Osaka sparkling, Ben Shelton and Jack Draper's injuries, the visibility of gambling on site, and a bit more. Scuttling previous plans, Ben and Tumaini are together once more for a bit of an emergency episode on the wild shitshow which Daniil Medvedev delivered on Sunday at the US Open, exacerbating a long delay when down match point to Benjamin Bonzi which dramatically turned the match, only for Bonzi to win in five. We discuss the surreal scenes, the mistakes made by pretty much every party involved, how single-official matches just aren't working in tennis, and more of the fallout, including Medvedev's press conference (we recorded this episode before Bonzi came in). In this episode of "The Top Line," Fierce Pharma's Eric Sagonowsky and Kevin Dunleavy break down the numbers behind the industry’s second-quarter performance. Among U.S. pharma heavyweights, J&J, AbbVie, Pfizer, Regeneron, Bristol Myers Squibb and Biogen each eked out gains this past quarter. Their results varied, with individual stories worth highlighting at each of these major companies. Reuniting where they first met 15 years ago, Ben is delighted to have Courtney back on NCR once more for this episode, catching up on what's happened for her this year and what she currently has in the works as she rejoined the tour this month. We discuss the end of Courtney's time at the WTA, what she's been doing in the months since, and how she got started with the new project she's been working on: a revival or reinvention of Forty Deuce. Related to what used to be and what is, we also talk a lot about how the media landscapes in which we operate have shifted since we first met, what's been lost over time, and what we hope can be rebuilt. And speaking of rebuilding, we also marvel at the radically renovated Cincinnati Open, which pulled off a stunning transformation since last year. Thank you for listening! Quarterfinals are locked in at the Canada Open—and while star power may be light, the drama and surprises are anything but. With standout performances lighting up both Toronto and Montreal, Joel, Kim, and Chris return to Tennis Weekly HQ to unpack all the action as the US Open draws nearer. This week, they discuss the long-awaited WTA emergence of Victoria Mboko, following her impressive ITF blitz at the start of the season. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff—still top seed—continues to struggle with her serving scaries in singles, though her doubles form remains strong. Why the disconnect? The team weighs in. Naomi Osaka also headlines after bouncing back from a disappointing DC stint with a new coach and fresh confidence, powering into the quarterfinals. What's driving her post-Mouratoglou resurgence?Over on the men's side, tensions flared between Ben Shelton and Flavio Cobolli (though we're not really sure why?), and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina sparked debate after complaining about an early wake-up—much to Dan Evans' irritation. Was he out of line, or does he have a point?Plus, the team looks ahead to the US Open and the surprising announcement of a new tennis-themed dating show, Game Set Matchmaker—which Kim suspected might be a late April Fools' joke. They also debate who deserves the final two wildcard slots at the inaugural Mixed Doubles event—and whether real-life couples like De Minaur/Boulter and Monfils/Svitolina (aka GEMS Life) should get the nod.SOCIALSFollow us on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, plus email the show tennisweeklypod@gmail.com.MERCHPurchase Tennis Weekly Merch through our Etsy store including limited edition designs by Krippa Design where all proceeds go towards the podcast so we can keep doing what we do!REVIEWS***Please take a moment to rate and review the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your pods. Ben and Tumaini are joined for their Wimbledon finals show by Giri Nathan, who literally wrote the book on the Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry that featured its latest chapter in the Wimbledon final. Before discussing Sinner and Alcaraz and their continuing takeover—and Sinner finally getting another win in his column—we start with the women's final, in which Iga Swiatek blanked Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0. What do we make of Swiatek's dominance? Also, which of Swiatek, Alcaraz, and Sinner will complete their Career Slam first? Ben and Tumaini, on the mic once more together, recap the business end of Wimbledon, where one final is already set on the women's side and two blockbuster semifinals are set for the men. We start with the women's side, on which Amanda Anisimova is making her first major final after beating Aryna Sabalenka (who had herself a much more composed press conference this time). We then discuss, to Tumaini's delight, how he was right and Ben was wrong about Swiatek's grass possibilities this season. We then turn to the men, where Taylor (Harry) Fritz is going to face Carlos Alcaraz (Garfia) and where there will be a Sinner-Djokovic rematch. Ben is joined once more by Ricky Dimon to catch up on the further upsets in the second round of Wimbledon after the carnage in the opening round, and to set up third round clashes. We start with Jack Draper, the local hope who was bundled out by 2017 runner-up Marin Cilic. We then wrap up the rest of the men, including exits for Americans Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul, and look for what could be in store the rest of the way if upsets subside. We then turn to the women, who lost last year's finalist Jasmine Paolini, but who have a few real tasty third rounds now on the cards, including Sabalenka-Raducanu, Andreeva-Baptiste, and Krejcikova-Navarro. Something different and pretty cool this time: 50 years ago at Wimbledon, the two singles champions were two of the biggest pioneers in tennis history: Billie Jean King and Arthur Ashe. It was also the first of many Wimbledons covered by then-young Canadian tennis journalist Tom Tebbutt, and he made a radio documentary for the CBC of a remarkable breadth of voices from around the tournament, from the stars to the various margins. Tom revisited and revamped the documentary this year for the 50th anniversary, and he generously shared it with us here at NCR to build up the hype and heritage around Wimbledon a half century later. It's a time capsule of tennis history, dusted off and showing some things you just wouldn't see (or hear) in the sport anymore, for better and worse. Thank you for listening!
