David W. Saxton's God's Battle Plan for the Mind (Reformation Heritage Books, 2015) presents a compelling argument for recovering the lost art of biblical meditation, a discipline once central to Puritan piety and spiritual formation. Saxton argues that the modern church, though rich in theological resources and preaching, suffers from a superficial spirituality precisely because it has neglected meditation—a practice essential for transforming doctrinal knowledge into heartfelt godliness. Drawing extensively from the Puritans and Scripture, Saxton defines biblical meditation as the intentional, sustained, and spiritual reflection on God's Word. Unlike Eastern or mystical forms of meditation that promote mental emptying, biblical meditation involves filling the mind with divine truth, leading to spiritual transformation and godly living. The book is structured thematically, beginning with the importance of meditation, contrasting it with unbiblical forms, and moving through practical guidance on how to meditate—whether occasional or deliberate. It outlines occasions for meditation, offers advice on selecting subjects, and highlights both the benefits and the spiritual enemies of the practice. Saxton concludes with pastoral encouragement to begin and persist in this vital spiritual discipline. Rev. Saxton is pastor of Cambridge Bible Church in Cambridge, Ohio. Just when we thought it was over...Erica surprised everyone with an update on the Diddy trial!
If you think structure matters, keep scrolling. This installment is a 95-minute free-association rocket that launches with Michigan's oppressive heat and crash-lands on cryogenically-preserved genitals. The hosts — Alex, John, Nick, plus a drive-by from Ian — pinball between bodily ailments (an infected salivary gland becomes surprisingly fertile comedy), elaborate golden-shower hypotheticals, and a conspiracy theory in which suppressed vampire foot-fetishism somehow begat Jeffrey Epstein. There is no arc, only entropy. What saves the chaos from total collapse is their knack for left-field riffs that feel both juvenile and oddly inventive. The “ejacuation” gag (skydiver must finish before hitting terminal velocity) is so proudly stupid it circles back to brilliance; the “rotten-mouth mime wielding inter-dimensional knives” bit is manic improv you can almost see storyboarded on a grease-stained Denny's placemat. Occasional flashes of cultural commentary break through — AI-generated YouTube cadence, 9/11 media memories — but they're quickly smothered by Sour Patch Kids and Dracula's alleged bisexuality.Do I recommend it? Only if you enjoy comedy that values shock over cohesion and don't mind wading through a septic tank to find the occasional gold tooth. For listeners who crave polished storytelling or even basic segues, hard pass. For connoisseurs of unfiltered bar-banter absurdism, hit play and embrace the mess.

A breakthrough in inflammatory support has arrived in the natural health market. PEA, which stands for palmitoylethanolamide, is a naturally occurring fatty acid derivative made in the body and found in small amounts in foods. Several human studies have demonstrated that PEA has broad- spectrum pain-relieving properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and nerve protection. To help us unpack all the research and studies we have Dr. Stengler joining us today. In addition to authoring 30 books on health and several best-sellers such as “The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies,” “Prescription for Natural Cures,” “Prescription for Drug Alternatives,” and “Outside the Box Cancer Therapies,” Dr. Stengler has been published in several peer-reviewed medical journals such as The International Journal of Family & Community Medicine, Endocrinology & Metabolism International Journal, and Journal of Nutritional Health & Food Engineering.Dr. Stengler's, NMD. The newest book is called, The Holistic Guide to Gut Health. A comprehensive yet accessible approach to healing leaky gut and the many uncomfortable symptoms it causes. Dr Stengler is also the founder of The Stengler Center for Integrative Medicine.Talking Points:Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), is a naturally occurring fatty acid derivative made in the body and found in small amounts in foods. PEA was first discovered in 1957 by scientists at Merck Sharp & Dohme, who isolated it from egg yolk, peanut meal, and soy lecithin. They found that PEA had anti-inflammatory properties in guinea pigs. However, PEA's role as a potential therapeutic agent was not widely recognized until 1993, when Rita Levi-Montalcini and her colleagues published research that suggested PEA has anti-inflammatory properties. Levi-Montalcini's group termed PEA an autocoid local injury antagonist (ALIA), and suggested that it acts locally to counteract injury.Multiple studies have demonstrated that PEA improves all sorts of pain. For example, a 2023 analysis of 11 studies found that PEA improved pain of various conditions, including muscle and joints, nerves, gynecological, and digestive. In terms of joint pain, a high-quality study demonstrated that PEA significantly reduced adult joint pain compared to placebo. Moreover, 8 clinical trials demonstrated that PEA was effective for low back pain, sciatica, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Even migraine headache pain was shown in published research to be improved with PEA.Lipid mediators help to balance the immune, nervous, and endocrine systems, affecting pain pathways related to inflammation. But unfortunately, due to changing diets, many of us do not get the nutrition and activity we need to make enough PEA ourselves.Supplemental PEA, by Levagen+ is properly formulated for optimal bioavailability, 75% more bioavailable to cell receptors than dietary forms. Levagen+ liposomal delivery of PEA has been clinically studied and shows benefits in joint pain, nerve pain, migraine, infections, sleep, and cognitive function.Learn more about Dr. Mark Stengler, NMDLearn more about Emerald Labs PEA+ Levagen Use the code: Forever and get 20% off your order.

Who invented Satan? If you said "the Bible," think again nerds! In this Origin Story Vol. 1 minisode, we go ancient, like really ancient and introduce you to Zoroaster, a Persian prophet who may have accidentally drawn up Satan's first résumé.Before YHWH got possessive and the Christians started branding anyone with hobbies as a witch, Zoroaster was preaching about ONE god ‘Ahura Mazda' and his cosmic nemesis, ‘Angra Mainyu'. This dualistic theology gave us some suspiciously familiar tropes:

One of my top questions: What's YOUR routine like?” So today, I'm walking you through what I actually take on a regular basis — the supplements that give me energy and balance, even in the middle of the chaos. A quick note: Yes, I use a lot of supplements. But no, I don't take everything every day. I listen to my body and respond based on where I'm at in my cycle, what's going on in my life, and what my most recent labs and genetic testing show. Cycle-Synced Support Let's start with my favorite: my hormone-support tinctures. I'm a nerd about this stuff because it works. EstroBalance & Progesterone Balance: I take these in sync with my 28-day cycle (which stays regular 80% of the time thanks to these). EstroBalance during days 1–14, and Progesterone Balance during days 15–28. https://nutritionforyourhormones.com/products/estrobalance-progesterobalance-bundle Adrenal Balance: I take this one consistently, adjusting the dose during my luteal phase (days 15–28) if I'm under more stress. https://nutritionforyourhormones.com/products/adrenalbalance Sleep Support: Not a daily thing, but when insomnia flares — especially during week 4 of my cycle — this tincture is a lifesaver. I've struggled with insomnia since childhood, and this is the one thing that consistently helps. https://nutritionforyourhormones.com/products/sleep-support These four tinctures are my non-negotiables. Not all at once, but always on hand — ready when I need them. Trying to chase symptoms while you're already tanking is like running on fumes — and it doesn't work. Precision-Based Supplementing (Thanks, Genetics) My routine is tailored around my DUTCH hormone test results and my genetic test — and wow, have they been game-changers. Here's how: Vitamin D (10,000 IU): Despite supplementation, I tested very low. My genetics show I don't absorb D well, so I've upped the ante with high-dose D — paired with Vitamin A to help with absorption. I'll retest in 6 months. https://113022.nutridyn.com/a-d-natural-capsules Immune Support & Immune Resilience: These two do different things, and I need both. One gives me mushrooms + D + zinc for general immune health; the other helps my histamine response (thanks to quercetin, ginseng, and elderberry). Since going through mold illness, these keep me out of flare-ups and able to function. Without them? I crash. Hard. https://113022.nutridyn.com/immune-resilience-r278 https://113022.nutridyn.com/immune-support Cellular Energy: This one's new, and it's been a total game-changer. With CoQ10, NAC, magnesium, and more — it's the blend I didn't know I needed to help with inflammation and recovery. https://113022.nutridyn.com/cellular-energy NeuroBalance: After my last DUTCH test showed bottomed-out dopamine, I added this to help lift me back up. It took two full bottles to notice a difference, but what a difference. https://113022.nutridyn.com/crave-curb Occasional, But Vital I also rotate in: Detox Support: A month on, a few months off, to help with methylation and inflammation. https://nutritionforyourhormones.com/products/detox-support Charcoal: For stomach issues or if I get a histamine flare-up. https://www.amazon.com/Organic-Activated-Charcoal-Capsules-detoxification/dp/B078T354SC?crid=I3U3E0T709Q1&keywords=charcoal&qid=1678308212&sprefix=charcoal,aps,154&sr=8-6&linkCode=sl1&tag=drbethwesti07-20&linkId=debf3dbe61a874c3fbb17e0a26310ebb&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl All of this is done with intention. Not for the sake of “taking more stuff,” but to build a foundation that supports my energy, immune health, hormonal balance, and long-term wellness. My hormone-balancing tinctures are the foundation. They're simple, effective, and adaptable. They're what I use, and what I recommend to every woman who wants to get ahead of the hormone rollercoaster instead of reacting to it. Curious about trying them for yourself? You'll find everything you need here. These aren't just tinctures — they're tools for transformation. Whether you're struggling with irregular cycles, stress, sleep, or perimenopausal shifts, they meet you where you're at and help guide your body back into rhythm.

It's not uncommon to hear ringing, buzzing, humming or hissing sounds that can't be heard by anyone else. The medical term for these symptoms is tinnitus. The sounds may affect both ears, or just one. If you're lucky, they're a temporary or intermittent problem, but for some people they can be more severe, affecting their daily lives. 2019 figures from the British Tinnitus Association suggested that persistent tinnitus affects 1 in 8 people. Occasional ringing in the ears is nothing to worry about. It's when it lasts for longer than a few minutes that you may wish to consult a GP. Bear in mind that tinnitus itself isn't actually a disease. The sounds are symptoms of other disorders and health conditions. Where does it come from? Does it get worse with age? Are there any treatments for permanent tinnitus? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the latest episodes, click here: How can I beat a hangover? In this special episode of Animals & Us – Voices of a New Paradigm, we share an impromptu conversation with legendary environmental activist and deep ecologist John Seed.John has spent over four decades defending rainforests and advocating for the Earth - not only through direct action, but by inviting us to transform how we see ourselves in relation to the natural world. As the founder of the Rainforest Information Centre and co-author of Thinking Like a Mountain, John's work has inspired a generation of changemakers, spiritual ecologists, and everyday people yearning for reconnection. We speak with John about the roots of the Deep Ecology movement, the role of grief and love in environmental action, and the power of the Council of All Beings workshops to awaken ecological identity. Our conversation explores what it means to shift from seeing the Earth as “other” to remembering that we are the Earth, and that our activism, care, and listening arise from that sacred belonging. This is a gentle yet powerful episode with someone whose life reminds us that protecting the planet is not just an act of urgency - but of reverence.Follow John's work at:https://www.facebook.com/johnseed.deepecology https://www.instagram.com/johnseed_deepecology/ Substack at https://substack.com/@johnseed Occasional blog posts at htpps://johnseed.netSchedule, podcasts, essays, films etc. at https://rainforestinfo.org.au/johnseed.htm

Remembering the former president of Uruguay: José 'Pepe' Mujica. He started life as a flower farmer on the outskirts of Montevideo. As a young man he became politically active, part of the left-wing guerilla group the Tupamaros, who were bent on revolution through armed struggle that involved bank heists and kidnappings. With the authorities on his tail Pepe was eventually captured, he was shot six times and later staged what became a record-breaking prison escape. When he was captured and imprisoned again, he was held for 13 years in horrendous conditions but he says the pain and loneliness of that time was when he learned the most about life. A year after the military regime stepped down, Pepe was released and joined formal politics and in 2010 he was voted in as president of Uruguay. He shunned the presidential palace and car for his crumbling farmhouse and old VW Beetle and brought in laws legalising gay marriage and abortion. He had his critics but when he died earlier this month, thousands of people lined the streets to pay their respects. We spoke to Pepe alongside his wife Lucia Topolansky in 2023 and they talked about how their love had changed over their decades together. Host: Darryl S. Chutka, M.D. Guests: Cadman L. Leggett, M.D., and Chamil C. Codipilly, M.D. Occasional heartburn from gastroesophageal reflux is usually nothing more than an occasional nuisance for most patients. However, when the reflux becomes chronic, it can become more serious. One complication is Barrett's esophagus. On occasion, Barrett's can develop into esophageal adenocarcinoma, an aggressive malignancy with a survival rate of only around 20% at 5 years. Although usually seen in those with chronic acid reflux, Barrett's can occasionally occur in those without any clinical evidence of acid reflux. When should a patient with acid reflux receive an upper endoscopy? What's the significance of finding Barrett's esophagus on an endoscopy? How often does Barrett's develop into esophageal cancer and does treatment prevent this from happening? In this podcast, these are just some of the questions I'll be asking our guests, Cadman L. Leggett, M.D., and Chamil C. Codipilly, M.D., both from the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic as we discuss Barrett's Esophagus. Occasional guest host and LTA videographer Nolan Johnson joins Clay to talk about the epic Lewis and Clark Airstream journey of 2025, wherein Clay will follow the Lewis and Clark Trail from Jefferson's Monticello in Virginia to Astoria, Oregon, and back again. Historian James Ronda said the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-06 was “America's first great road story.” Clay plans to get himself on all the great rivers of the journey: Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri, Clearwater, Snake, and Columbia. Nolan will join Clay at several Lewis and Clark sites across America, with video cameras and his celebrated drone work. Nolan and Clay talk about several adventures that have already been scheduled, including an absurd pontoon float from Fort Yates, North Dakota, up to Bismarck and beyond. Clay will begin his transcontinental travels in early May in North Carolina and make stops at Monticello, Harpers Ferry, and Philadelphia before joining the Ohio River at Pittsburgh. It's a grand adventure, and we already ask, “What could go wrong?” This interview was recorded on March 22, 2025.
Do you wonder “Is this perimenopause?” Do you wonder what it looks and feels like? Get information on how to adjust and alter your exercise when you are. My Guest: Abby Chitty, a single mom with 5 kids between 15 and 24. She owns her own business as a realtor. We met on Instagram and I invited her to be a guest in this unique episode where we're doing a coaching call and you get to listen over the fence. Questions We Answer in This Episode: [00:05:15] What does perimenopause look like for asymptomatic women over 50? [00:20:00] What changes do we need to make to our workout routine? [00:25:00] If asymptomatic, how do we know if we're moving through the stages and how then do we judge what changes to make? What's Showing Up for Abby? Gaining 20 lbs slowly post-kids, despite a healthy lifestyle. Feeling frustrated when traditional diet and exercise weren't effective anymore. Friends telling you might be “doing too much” in terms of fitness. 5 days/week strength training Seasonal long-distance running (up to 30K) Uses YouTube programs with fast-paced, minimal-rest formats Occasional yoga/mobility work Exercises to failure, prefers lifting heavy Time to Flip the Switch with Abby: Overtraining & Recovery Benefit from less frequent but heavier strength sessions Incorporating rest + slower tempo lifting could help. Recovery may be insufficient—without it, muscle building stalls. Running & Cortisol Long runs + strength + possible fasting = cortisol overload. Midlife women are more vulnerable to stress and hormonal shifts. Lower estrogen increases cortisol response, impacting body composition. Sleep & Metabolism Sleep deprivation is linked to stubborn weight and reduced muscle recovery. Abby averages 5.5–6.5 hours of sleep, with limited REM/deep sleep. Need more sleep to trigger growth hormone/testosterone release. Supplements Try specific forms (glycinate or L-threonate) and gradually increase the dose. Abby uses magnesium oil and a multivitamin with magnesium. Nutrition A little caloric deficit is okay, but eat enough. Not doing it too long creates stress. Reintroduce sweet potatoes. Carbs with high fiber at night will help us sleep better. Key Takeaways to Know Is This Perimenopause? You might be in perimenopause without classic symptoms: Weight gain and sleep disruption can be early signs. More isn't always better in midlife exercise: Volume should decrease, intensity (with recovery) can rise. Muscle preservation is crucial: It drives metabolism and health outcomes more than weight alone. Sleep matters just as much as workouts: It affects hormonal balance, recovery, and fat loss. Cortisol and insulin sensitivity shift in midlife: Long-distance cardio and fasting a tricky combo. Smart scale stats are more telling than BMI: Body composition paints a clearer health picture. Personalized magnesium dosing: May improve sleep and aid recovery in midlife. Dr Stengler is also the founder of The Stengler Center for Integrative Medicine.Talking Points:Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), is a naturally occurring fatty acid derivative made in the body and found in small amounts in foods. Several human studies have demonstrated that PEA has broad-spectrum pain-relieving properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and nerve protection.PEA was first discovered in 1957 by scientists at Merck Sharp & Dohme, who isolated it from egg yolk, peanut meal, and soy lecithin. They found that PEA had anti-inflammatory properties in guinea pigs. However, PEA's role as a potential therapeutic agent was not widely recognized until 1993, when Rita Levi-Montalcini and her colleagues published research that suggested PEA has anti-inflammatory properties. Levi-Montalcini's group termed PEA an autocoid local injury antagonist (ALIA), and suggested that it acts locally to counteract injuryMultiple studies have demonstrated that PEA improves all sorts of pain. But unfortunately, due to changing diets, many of us do not get the nutrition and activity we need to make enough PEA ourselves.Supplemental PEA, by Levagen+ is properly formulated for optimal bioavailability, 75% more bioavailable to cell receptors than dietary formsLevagen+ liposomal delivery of PEA has been clinically studied and shows benefits in joint pain, nerve pain, migraine, infections, sleep, and cognitive function.Learn more about Emerald Labs PEA+ Levagen Use the code: Forever and get 20% off your order.

As a sociologist, my career couldn't be further from that of my father, who spent his life on the road as a truck driver. It's only in recent years, as illness has struck, that I've started to truly understand him. By José Henrique Bortoluci. Read by Felipe Pacheco. Portland. Southeast 4 or 5 increasing 7 or 8 veering South 4 or 5 later. Occasional showers. Good, becoming moderate. The Shipping Forecast marks its centenary on the BBC today. Happy birthday from Radio Lento! ----- Take as a seat one of the large flat stones under a tree. It's a lone tree, full of sparrows. Watch the ocean boats. The high tide is on the turn. Shallow waves rolling about between the rocks. They're playing that game of colouring in. Darkening the boulders to show where they've been. Surge, break, wash, dissolve. Rest both hands on the sun-warm stone. Follow the ships and boats as they sail the shipping channel. Marine engines are felt as much in the chest as in the ears. Slowly each slides from view. Keep still though, so as not to frighten the sparrows. Sparrows, and softly breaking waves, and humming boats, and time in a coastal edgeland space, and no interruptions, might be good for a bit of thinking. That kind of thinking best done without notes. Without words or screens, prompts or lists. And without talking. Flow time thinking where thoughts and ideas and worries and inspirations surge, and break, and wash, and dissolve, just like the waves. * Happy New Year! Episode 251 is our first for 2025.
