In this episode, I sit down with Isaac McBroom, Education Manager for the PTR and author of A Constraints-Led Approach to Coaching Tennis. We explore why great coaching is less about giving instructions and more about creating environments where people can learn, adapt, and discover solutions for themselves. From Theory of Mind and Ecological Dynamics to leadership, autonomy, and decision-making, Isaac shares why coaching is ultimately a collaborative dance between the learner, their environment, and the coach. About Isaac McBroom Isaac McBroom is the Education Manager for the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), a coach developer, educator, and former ATP/WTA tour coach with more than a decade of experience in high-performance tennis. Known for bridging the gap between coaching science and practice, Isaac has played a leading role in modernizing coach education through ecological dynamics and the constraints-led approach. He is the author of A Constraints-Led Approach to Coaching Tennis and works with coaches around the world to design learning environments that develop adaptable, creative, and resilient athletes.

Ever feel your body slam on the brakes at the worst moment—or light up just from someone's tone of voice? That's your nervous system running the show. In this episode of the Crackin' Backs Podcast, polyvagal performance coach Michael Allison (Polyvagal Clinic / The Play Zone) shows us how to find clarity in chaos and silence within the noise—teaching practical tools to shift from stress to calm, from pressure to play right when it counts.Michael breaks down Polyvagal Theory for non-experts—what it is, why it matters for peak performance, and the top myths he wants coaches and clinicians to retire (looking at you, oversimplified “fight-or-flight” narratives). Then we dive into his frameworks: The Play Zone and Autonomic Agility™—how to read your physiological state, respect its impact on performance, and shift under pressure. You'll get a crisp 90-second routine Michael uses with athletes and performers (such as high end tennis professionals and golfers) and learn exactly what a coach should observe and what the athlete should feel when it's working. Why listen? Michael's methodology is endorsed by Dr. Stephen W. Porges, developer of Polyvagal Theory, and he trains coaches globally through the Polyvagal Institute—working across MLB, NBA, ATP/WTA, FIFA, NCAA, and more. Or, will Carlos Alcaraz avenge his defeat at Sinner's hands in Wimbledon this year? Is a Sinner vs Alcaraz final a foregone conclusion, or can the old fox Novak Djokovic crash their party? On the women's side, can Aryna Sabalenka defend her crown or will Iga Swiatek add to her growing tally of majors? ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast
Welcome to Season 14 Episode 23 of the ParentingAces Podcast! This week's episode with JY Aubone was shot live at the brand new Intennse Arena in Atlanta right before opening weekend of this exciting new way to play tennis.JY is working with Intennse to help manage the players as well as to do the live broadcasting via Twitch. In this week's episode, he explains how Intennse works, how it fits into a junior player's overall developmental pathway, and the opportunities it holds for recently graduated college players.I had the opportunity to watch Intennse live during its opening weekend, both the qualies matches for a spot on the Challenge team as well as the pro and junior matches. What a blast! This is tennis like you've never seen before: played on a clock, one serve, co-ed teams with coaching and substitutions, with teams playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. If you missed my Instagram posts over the weekend, you can find them at https://instagram.com/ParentingAces.To be clear, Intennse is NOT looking to replace traditional tennis or tennis tournaments. Rather, it is acting as a bridge for junior players who want to play college tennis so they can gain experience playing on a team and under pressure as well as for those players looking to play professionally but aren't quite ready - either developmentally or financially - to start a pro career. On the junior side, Intennse matches do count for UTR and WTN and, if a junior player wants to play qualies for a spot on that week's Challenger team, they have the opportunity to earn in excess of $1500 if their Challenger team beats the pro team that week. On the pro side, players receive a guaranteed salary plus prize money if their team wins a match. Intennse is allowing players to better manage their travel and competition schedule while receiving salary and benefits, a far cry from the current ATP/WTA tours. For more information on Intennse, visit the website at https://www.intennse.com/home and be sure to follow them on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/intennsetennis, TikTok at https://www.tiktok.com/@intennsetennis, and Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566418503744.You can always reach out to JY directly via email at jy@forthesport.com.As always, I am available for one-to-one consults to work with you as you find your way through the college recruiting process. The US Open just announced its entry list for the 2025 Mixed Doubles Tournament. In case you missed it, they've made significant changes to the event this year, which I discussed with Dan Kiernan and many players at Indian Wells back in March on the podcast. This episode, recorded on Instagram Live with Philip from Tweener Head Tennis, includes my initial reaction to the entry list and a deeper discussion surrounding mixed doubles and ATP/WTA doubles. As the US Open revamps the event with singles stars over doubles specialists, there's one thing we know for sure... change is already here, and more is coming. Here's a bit of what we discuss. The initial entry list featured nine of the top ten singles players from the ATP & WTA, and only two doubles specialistsFast-4 scoring & whether people want to call the winners true "Grand Slam Champions"The more important reason I think it's tough to call it a real Grand Slam tournamentThe dramatic prize money increase - Champions win 5x from 2024The agreement with ESPNAnd more...I enjoy conversations like this to explore the solutions and potential changes for doubles. I hope this leads to positive outcomes for doubles and doubles specialists. If you have a reaction to share, reach out! Gill Gross dissects the bombshell class action lawsuit filed by the PTPA (Professional Players Association) targeting the ATP, WTA, ITF and ITIA. We'll try to answer all the essential questions: Why is the lawsuit happening, what does it claim, do the complaints have merit, and how might this play out longterm? I am not an employee of the ATP, nothing I say represents the ATP… I am sometimes contracted by the ATP for commentary services. My opinions are completely my own. Below I'll attach official statements from the most relevant parties: PTPA: "Tennis is broken," Ahmad Nassar, the executive director of the PTPA, said in a statement. "Behind the glamorous veneer that the defendants promote, players are trapped in an unfair system that exploits their talent, suppresses their earnings, and jeopardizes their health and safety." WTA: “The PTPA's action is both regrettable and misguided, and we will defend our position vigorously in due course. The WTA is fully committed to continuing to develop and evolve the structure and operations of professional women's tennis, listening closely as always to the views of our players. Contesting this baseless legal case will divert time, attention, and resources from our core mission to the detriment of our players and the sport as a whole.” ATP: "While ATP has remained focused on delivering reforms that benefit players at multiple levels, the PTPA has consistently chosen division and distraction through misinformation over progress.Five years on from its inception in 2020, the PTPA has struggled to establish a meaningful role in tennis, making its decision to pursue legal action at this juncture unsurprising." We discuss a wide range of topics: Billie Jean King's suggestion that tennis should simply the scoring terminology; padel; ranking points at Challengers; the unpopularity of two-week Masters 1000 events; if Iga Swiatek should play more doubles; unimpressive comments by Ben Shelton and Jon Wertheim; Sara Errani's Hall of Fame candidacy; and the progress toward a possible ATP-WTA merger.
