Carlos Alcaraz trennt sich tatsächlich von Erfolgstrainer Juan Carlos Ferrero - diese überraschende Meldung ist Grund genug, um sie außerplanmäßig in die neueste Folge Cross Court aufzunehmen. Danach folgt aber das Weihnachtsspecial - und als Bescherung gibt es ein XXL-Interview! In der letzten Folge des Jahres begrüßen SPORT1-Redakteurin Sophie Affeldt und SPORT1-Tennis-Experte Stefan Schnürle nach dem zahlreichen positiven Feedback dafür erneut Christoph Negritu. Der DTB-Profi erzählt von der Weihnachtszeit eines Tennisspielers und warum man sich als solcher als Loser der Sportwelt fühlt. Anschließend berichtet er von teils kuriosen Bedingungen auf kleineren Turnieren, verrückte Anekdoten über Tricksereien und fragwürdige Reiserouten inklusive. Negritu verrät, was der Traumlauf von Valentin Vacherot auf Challenger-Ebene auslöste und wieso es auch Probleme im Tennis aufzeigt. Klartext spricht er auch beim Thema Finanzen. Dabei nimmt er vor allem die Superstars in die Pflicht und hinterfragt fragwürdige Hotel-Vergünstigungen. Der enorme Fokus der ATP auf Alcaraz sowie Jannik Sinner geht ihm teils zu weit und er bricht eine Lanze für Alexander Zverev, der etwas Besonderes versuche. Negritu kann auch Zverevs Kritik nachvollziehen und erklärt, was dahintersteckt, dass inzwischen fast alle Stars gleich spielen. Das Meckern der Tennis-Stars über den Turnierkalender versteht Negritu nur bedingt, ihn erinnert eine Besonderheit der ATP eher an Supermarkt-Einkäufe. Ein Teil des Problems sieht Negritu aber auch darin begründet, dass für ihn einige Profis den Bezug zur Realität verloren haben. Es folgt eine Diskussion über das Battle of the Sexes zwischen Aryna Sabalenka und Nick Kyrgios. Negritu hält ein Plädoyer auf das Damentennis und vermisst Kyrgios als Gegenpol zu den Topstars. Ein frohes, neues Jahr 2024 von der "Sportstunde"! Das wird ein überragendes Sportjahr! Schon nächste Woche geht es ja schon los mit der Europameisterschaft im Handball bei uns vor der Haustür. Um schon mal ein bisschen Geschmack darauf zu bekommen und auf das gesamte Handballjahr, hat die "Sportstunde" mit dem Coach von Eintracht Hagen und riesigem Handball-Fan Stefan Neff gesprochen. Wir haben dieses Jahr noch eine EM in Deutschland. Die Euphorie, die man bei den Handballern spürt, ist da aber noch sehr weit weg...am 14.Juni ist das Eröffnungsspiel Deutschland gegen Schottland in München. Vielleicht wird es ja wieder ein Sommermärchen...und möglicherweise ist dann Bayer Leverkusen Deutscher Meister... Oliver Forster, Fußballkommentator bei Sport1, DAZN und MagentaSport und Stadionsprecher des DFB, über Enttäuschungen, Überraschungen blickt mit der "Sportstunde" auf das Fußballjahr 2024. Die Eishockey-Spieler haben gar keine Pause gemacht. Was die Jungs für ein Programm abliefern, das ist schon Wahnsinn. Björn Borg und Jimmy Connors waren die großen Tennisstars, als Ende der 1970er-Jahre der Stern eines jungen US-Amerikaners aus New York aufging. Die Würfel bestehen nach eigenen Angaben ausschließlich aus hochwertigen Inhaltsstoffen und können flexibel immer und überall mit Wasser zubereitet werden. Dabei passen sie mit ihrer Größe durch Flaschenhälse und sollen auch problemlos durch Sicherheitskontrollen kommen. Durch die Einzelverpackung sollen 98 % Kunststoff im Vergleich zu herkömmlich abgefüllten Getränken und durch die vereinfachten Transport- und Lagermöglichkeiten auch CO2-Emissionen eingespart werden. Waterdrop wurde im Jahr 2016 von Martin Murray, Henry Murray und Christoph Hermann in Wien gegründet. Die Produkte des Unternehmens sind inzwischen in über 20.000 Geschäften verfügbar. Zudem sind 2 Millionen Onlinekundinnen und -kunden sowie spezielle Trinkflaschen, die Waterdrop seit der Übernahme des Trinkflaschen-Startups Purgaty vertreibt, dafür verantwortlich, dass das Unternehmen im Jahr 2021 knapp 90 Millionen Euro Umsatz erzielt hat.Nun hat der Tennis-Profi Novak Djokovic eine siebenstellige Summe in die österreichische Firma investiert. Als Grund nannte der Hochleistungssportler in einer Pressemitteilung, dass er als Vater, Sportler und Vorbild nicht mehr abgefüllte Getränke unterstützen möchte. Mit der Investition wird Novak Djokovic auch zum Markenbotschafter von Waterdrop. Künftig wird das Logo des Wiener Startups die Sport-Outfits des Tennis-Stars zieren.

In this episode, 13-year Amogh from Michigan, a teen fond of playing both tennis and golf, walks us through the careers of these two tennis stars. Serena showed incredible promise as a sportsperson even when she was just a toddler. Her father Richard Williams is credited with coaching her in the early years. Federer, on the other hand, dabbled across a few sports, including tennis and did not become very serious about the sport until he was nearly 12. When Serena won her first Grand Slam, she was only the second ever African-American woman to win one. When Federer won his first Grand Slam, he was the first ever Swiss male to win one. Earlier this year, Ons Jabeur, from Tunisia, became the first Arab woman and African woman to win a WTA 1000 title - a major title in the women's game. Now at number two in the world, she is the highest ever ranked African player. She's been in great form and is playing her first ever semi final at a grand slam – and not the least at Wimbledon - widely regarded as the most prestigious tennis tournament. Although the continent has had several tennis players reaching the highest levels of the sport, such as Kevin Anderson and Amanda Coetzer, Africa has often had few stars in the tennis world. Now, there are several promising juniors on the rise. Angella Okutoyi from Kenya recently made history at the Australian Open junior grand slam event, while Isabella Kruger from South Africa is on a winning streak in this year's junior Wimbledon. But requiring funding, facilities and equipment, tennis remains a difficult sport to access for many. Alan Kasujja speaks to sports journalist Reem Abulleil and Secretary General of Tennis Kenya, Wanjiru Mbugua-Karani to find out how how Africa can produce more tennis stars.

A cast of tennis greats will chase victory at Wimbledon on the manicured All England Club courts over the next two weeks.
