Join Pinder Award-winning comedian Lizzy Hoo, as she passes judgement on fellow comedian Mike Goldstein's deplorable on-court behaviour. The guys also dig into the fallout from Flavio Cobolli telling his girlfriend she is not welcome back to his games, and question why no one has yet noticed that giant American Patrick Kypson resembles a hunky pirate. Oh, and did you see that photo of Trump standing in front of the Georgia women's team? Yes, we go there... then seamless pivot to shining a spotlight on Nick Kyrgios's bald head (not literally - though that is a cool segment idea). Before anything else, our thoughts this week are firmly with teh family of Damian Kust. Damian was a cherished and passionate member of the tennis community whom we lost at the age of just 26. His work covering the Challenger Tour set him apart, but his passion and knowledge was what really made him shine. RIP Damian. Here is what else Calvin Betton, James Gray and George Bellshaw discussed this week... Novak Djokovic has pulled out of Adelaide, his only planned warm-up for the Australian Open, saying he is not physically ready for the challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have not played an ATP event yet this year either, but were busy playing an indoor practice match in front of 15,000 people in Seoul, South Korea. Poland FINALLY won the United Cup, Hubert Hurkacz gaining redemption for spurning two championship points against Alexander Zverev in 2024, beating the German en route to leading his nation to victory... ...but Iga Swiatek's form was far from impressive, and it was Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski, Luke Johnson's new partner, who were instrumental in securing the title PLUS: No Australian Open wildcard for Nick Kyrgios; there is one for Stan Wawrinka; titles for Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Bublik, Aryna Sabalenka and Elina Svitolina; Emma Raducanu's return; and OF COURSE *that* wildcard in Nairobi. This week Erik and Aidan discuss the most controversial player in tennis, Nick Kyrgios. Known for his antics on and off the court, Kyrgios burst onto the scene around 2015 displaying incredible talent and taking out top opponents in big matches. He has played at tennis' biggest stage, the Wimbledon final, but has never truly been a next-level player, peaking at a ranking just outside the top 10. Voting has begun in the opening phase of Myanmar's heavily restricted general election, the first since the military seized power nearly five years ago in a coup, an act that sparked civil war. The International Olympic Committee are reportedly going to move to protect women's sport by preventing trans identified males and athletes with DSDs from competing in women's sport. Will this come to pass? We discuss reports on the shift in policy, and raise some key questions. Will the IOC compel screening for sex and testing for advantage? Will they include DSDs in the policy? Will sports be obliged to comply, or remain able to govern eligibility as they please?18:32. Antagonism in antidoping continues, with shots fired between WADA and USADA, this time over The Enhanced Games. WADA think USADA should be doing more to stop the Games, but USADA say they have no authority to act. We discuss their remits, and the damaging mistrust that now exists between them. We also talk about the threat of the Enhanced Games, and USADA's perceptions of why athletes are joining "the doping Olympics"28:59. Staying on doping, US Sprinter Marvin Bracy-Williams has been banned for 45 months. The 2022 100m silver medalist got a reduced sentence for co-operation, and we wonder what he shared with authorities, and whether the investigative approach will produce future sanctions?34:09. Chinese teen prodigy Yu Zidi has continued her ascent to the summit of swimming, with a 200m individual medley record that puts her into the conversation for future world and Olympic medalists. We wonder what her trajectory looks like, using a previous Chinese teen phenom to offer a dose of reality.42:18. And Finally, tennis, with another "battle of the sexes" match in December between Aryna Sabelenka and Nick Kyrgios, with a few modifications to neutralize men's power. We talk about those changes, then finish up with a quirky look at the men's tennis rankings that reflect the extraordinary dominance of the current top two.LinksIOC moves to protect women's sportWADA reckons USADA can do more to stop The Enhanced Games from proceedingUSADA does not agree, and respond with some hostilityUSADA statement on the 45 month ban for Marvin Bracy-WilliamsYu Zidi's 200m medley performance sending waves into swimmingKyrgios is confident ahead of the gimmicky battle of the sexes match Hosted on Acast. George Bellshaw, Calvin Betton and James Gray unpick another "complicated" week of tennis news - because nothing is ever straightforward in this sport! They discussed... - A date has been confirmed for a new "Battle of the Sexes” with Aryna Sabalenka vs Nick Kyrgios set for 28 December in Dubai - Elena Rybakina wins the WTA Finals and is then determined to embarrass WTA boss Portia Archer over her role in banning coach Stefano Vukov - Aryna Sabalenka loses another big final and ends up in tears - Jack Draper says players need to stop talking and start doing over complaints on the gruelling tennis schedule - Novak Djokovic wins title No 101 in Athens, ripping off his shirt in celebration and becoming the oldest man to win a title in 48 years. It took him all of three gruelling hours against Lorenzo Musetti - whom he then told at the net that his defeat was meaningless and the Italian would still qualify for ATP World Tour Finals because Djokovic was pulling out - Learner Tien beat Cam Norrie in a fine Metz final to claim his first career title and confirm a top 30 debut. Breakthrough player of the year? - And finally, many congratulations to Ons Jabeur, who has announced that she is expecting a baby boy in April Learn more about your ad choices. In another episode that was already released as a video overnight for our Patreon backers, Ben and Tumaini wrap up what was a very busy Saturday in the world of tennis, including three simultaneous finals. We start with the WTA Finals in Riyadh, where Elena Rybakina won a very high-quality, high-level tournament that still looked small. How is the WTA going in Saudi Arabia after two years? Should they extend their stay there? Read Tumaini's column on the state of the WTA for more. We then discuss the down-to-the-wire (down-to-the-netcord?) drama around the race to Turin, where Novak Djokovic made Lorenzo Musetti and Felix Auger-Aliassime sweat it out until the last possible moment before withdrawing from Turin. Was that fair or foul? We also discuss the newly announced "Battle of the Sexes" between Aryna Sabalenka and Nick Kyrgios, which we both think is a bad idea (but for a different perspective, read Ben's interview with the organizer, Stuart Duguid). And then for a fun finish, Tumaini waxes lyrical about his love for 1 Point Slam, which is returning in Melbourne next year in a much bigger form. Thank you for listening! Our Patreon is back up and running to ensure NCR keeps going and stays ad-free, and we hope you can join in supporting NCR! And we especially thank our GOAT backers: Pam Shriver and J. O'D. And please check out Ben's new writing home, Bounces! And Tumaini's work at The Guardian!

Welcome back to Tennis Unfiltered, the weekly podcast about tennis that does not hold back. Host James Gray risked his marriage this week by taking two hours out of his holiday to do the podcast, logging on from Athens to discuss the last seven days of tennis with Calvin Betton, Paris Masters-winning coach, and tennis writer and broadcaster George Bellshaw. Here are the stories they discussed: Jannik Sinner won his fifth Masters title and returned to world No 1, for a week at least with Carlos Alcaraz set to overtake him again next week. It also took Sinner to exactly 10,000 points for the 2025 season despite having served at three-month ban in the middle of it. Sinner beat Felix Auger-Aliassime (the indoor GOAT) in the final, having battered Alexander Zverev in the semi-final for the loss of just one game. Carlos Alcaraz meanwhile was knocked out by Cam Norrie, who maintains an impressive record against the Spaniard. But Norrie was beaten by Valentin Vacherot, who followed up his Shanghai title with proof that he is no flash in the pan, and moves into the top 30 in the world for the first time. In the best social media beef of the week, Zizou Bergs managed to catch both Reilly Opelka and Nick Kyrgios in a web of their own egos. The WTA Finals kicked off over the weekend in Riyadh, albeit not in particularly grand style. Coco Gauff was beaten by Jessica Pegula and served 17 double-faults, which meant missing more than a quarter of her second serves, and was broken nine times in all. It begs the question, do year-end finals ever really produce the best tennis? Plus Gauff claimed the WTA is “more interesting” because it has more grand slam champions, while Alcaraz and Sinner clean up on the men's side Three breakout stars won titles on the WTA Tour in the meantime: Janice Tjen of Indonesia; Canada's Victoria Mboko; and a 17-year-old from Austria named Lilli Tagger with a one-handed backhand and a grand slam winner in her box Rohan Bopanna has announced his retirement after 20 years on tour at the age of 45. He won 26 tour-level doubles titles, including the 2024 Australian Open doubles. That also took him to world No 1 at the age of 43, the oldest man ever to do so. He won 539 tour-level matches, won titles with 15 different partners and also picked up a mixed doubles grand slam title at Roland Garros in 2017. Learn more about your ad choices. The Champions Mindset: How to Turn Pressure into Power What separates those who rise under pressure from those who break under it? In this mashup, I'm bringing you some of the most powerful conversations I've ever had about mastering the inner game, the battle between your mind, your heart, and your mission. From the court to the boardroom to the hospital bed to the stage, each of these stories reveals what it really takes to stay calm, stay hungry, and stay in the fight when everything is on the line. Nick Kyrgios opens up about the mental war behind professional tennis and how learning to control his emotions changed not only his game but his entire life. Tony Robbins breaks down the psychology of pressure and why the people who perform at the highest levels aren't fearless, they've just trained themselves to use fear as fuel. Damar Hamlin's story will move you to your core as he shares what it felt like to face death on national television and come back stronger with a mission bigger than football. Manny Khoshbin reveals how he went from living in a car to building a real estate empire by mastering discipline, vision, and delayed gratification. And Jesse Itzler brings it all home with his raw honesty about endurance, purpose, and doing hard things every single day to stay sharp and alive. Every single one of these individuals knows what it's like to be counted out, to face the noise, and to rise anyway. That's the mindset of a champion: not perfection, but persistence. Not avoiding pain, but transforming it into power. And I want you to hear the truth behind their success because this same power is available to you. When life turns up the heat, that's your invitation to step into greatness. The moments that test you the most are the ones that define you the most. You don't have to wait until you feel ready. You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to decide right now that you won't let the pressure break you. You'll let it build you. Key Takeaways How to turn pressure, pain, and fear into your greatest fuel (Tony Robbins) The mindset of elite performance and emotional control (Nick Kyrgios) What Damar Hamlin learned about faith, purpose, and the will to fight for life The habits that transformed Manny Khoshbin from homeless to multimillionaire Jesse Itzler's principle of building endurance through challenge and discomfort Why true champions don't run from pressure, they rise inside it Also don't miss out on MAXOUT2026: Once a year, I open my home for an intimate one-day experience unlike anything else I do.
