Michael Brodkorb, a longtime Twin Cities journalist and public relations consultant, joins the podcast to discuss his 2018 true crime book, "The Girls Are Gone: The True Story of Two Sisters Who Vanished, the Father Who Kept Searching, and the Adults Who Conspired to Keep the Truth Hidden." Set in Lakeville, Minnesota, the book tells the story of a messy divorce and child custody fight in family court and -- ultimately -- the mysterious disappearance of two teenage girls.
@sohrenato @vani.leticia

“A Dark Turn” with Kevin Deutsch welcomes Michael Brodkorb and Allison Mann, authors of the new true crime book “The Girls Are Gone.” On the evening of April 19, 2013, Samantha and Gianna Rucki disappeared. Two of five children born to David Rucki and Sandra Grazzini-Rucki, the teenage sisters vanished in the midst of their parents’ divorce. The girls’ father, David Rucki, worked tirelessly with law enforcement to search day and night for his two missing daughters, following every lead while raising three remaining children at home. Their mother, Sandra Grazzini-Rucki, used her newfound freedom to vacation around the world, abandoning her children. And as the investigation intensified, catching the attention of the media, Sandra also disappeared. The Girls Are Gone is the true story of two sisters who went missing, the father who kept searching, and the adults who conspired to keep the truth hidden. This podcast is the property of the Authors on the Air Global Radio Network.
The sound in this episode is different as it was a 4 person Skype, but you don't want to miss this story. Two girls go missing in the middle of the night. That's a pretty horrible sentence, all by itself... but there is a simple way to make it worse: their mother was at fault. On April 19, 2013 during a custody dispute with her ex-husband Sandra Grazzini-Rucki abducted her own daughters. 944 days later they were located on November 18, 2015. living on a ranch in Northern Minnesota. Four separate people ended up receiving criminal charges in the case, including the girls mother. In September 2018, Michael Brodkorb and Allison Mann announced they would be releasing the book titled “The Girls Are Gone”. During the past two years the authors (a paralegal for the fathers attorney, and a writer for a Minnesota news centre that was reporting on the case during trial.) have uncovered new details about the disappearance of Samantha and Gianna Rucki and the adults that worked together to hide the sisters and the truth from everyone. The conducted many interviews to gather the complete story - including members of the Rucki family, and that included the daughters Samantha and Gianna. The book was released October 23rd for all of us to dig right in. I hope you will enjoy our discussion.
