Mental Obsession Discussion

Contact Welcomed Here“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already, but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already.”Count Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy; "Leo"We Know We Know. We Are Aware We Are Aware. We Are as We Are. Reality is unlimited and never changes. The idea that how and what we think creates reality suggests otherwise. Acting on backward thoughts leads to behaviors that are out of order reflecting a reversal of our natural fortune. Anxious, nervous and systemic disorders reflect this impossible attempt to reverse the Law and order of the universe. Dis-ease is the lack of ease created and maintained by such twisted mental acrobatics. Stress and Anxiety inhibit healing and so contribute to any ailments. Mentality is a bodily function. Mental disease is a physcial ailment leading to others as long as it is improperly diagnosed - any treatment will perpetuate its contagion. Principles affirm our indivisible nature. Sharing principles affirms and confirms our indivisibility as our nature. Inspiration is natural while desperation, depression, degradation and acting oblivious to what is obvious is a choice. Absolute Intelligence, Peace and Silence is Nature's nature since It does not change. The nature of nature is naturally our nature. Ignoring what is happening, acting as though it shouldn't be or isn't happening, produces the unintelligible jibbersh of ignorance - not reality. contact@mentalobsession.com

They call this their point of view." Albert Einstein. It is not a loss of memory but the lack of human perspective we suffer by imagining all that we are is the subject of subjective thought. A dimension of zero has no perspective in space and time - so any imagined self has no value, awareness, or place since it has no life being wholly imagined.  Feeling like you don't belong is caused by thoughts that have no basis, and so no place in Reality. To think imagination is reality is to think reality is fantasy and turns the extraordinary benefit of imagination into a dire liability.    Thinking is not the source of existence while it is the primary source of human experience. Thinking naturally offers the potential to exist humanely and the freedom to mis-think and act inhumane. Nature is natural and so it is our nature. Insanity is a byproduct of unnatural, unhealthy, abnormal obsessive thinking.  Social ills are the collective nature of sick thoughts: mental illness.  We Know We Know. We Are Aware We Are Aware. Mental Obsession Discussion

Contact Welcomed HereThis link is to the video we discussed today - of physicist Frederico Faggan's insight and experience with Reality: https://vimeo.com/703130979Our discussion is not about the infertility of mass-debation or coming to new echoes of chronic thoughtless terms but conceding Life's terms are currently in perfect order and place. That what is happening as it happens is very different than asking why, where, when, what, and how things happening could or should possibly be happening.  Witnessing something happen and then thinking it is unbelievable is an indication of how flimsy belief is since it is a product of thought; that is so flexible as to allow us to misuse it in our experience and then blame and abuse others for what they think with little or no reluctance at all.  That IT IS, is stable As IT IS, since what is not in question is certain, having no doubt. Pain monitors what is wrong - to misread its cues is to ask for and receive more troubling news. Functional literacy accurately reads our body language - assigning feelings to how and what we are thinking about what is happening - not who we are but what and how we utilize thought; as something we do.  We cannot be what we do any more than we become a foot arm or leg by thinking about them. We do not struggle with Life, Love, or Reality - we struggle with what we think about IT, and whether we like or dislike what we think. We Know We Know. Contact Welcomed HereTo think things can't or shouldn't be happening is to think wrongly about all that is happening. Whether what is happening should be happening is irrelevant to the fact That it is always happening as it is happening Now Where We Are. Contact Welcomed HereWord of mouth spreads the word; Speak up, Speak out. David Foster Wallace once said: "There is actually no such thing as atheism, the only choice we get is what to worship.  In a society that chases money, power, fame, and beauty, there are worse gods than longevity."Talk is cheap since there is a lot of it. Nutritious food for thought nourishes all life-form's capacity through mental health.  We can stabilize our thoughts naturally or choose to destabilize them unnaturally. Nature is natural - no surprise.   Greed, spite, envy, fear, and hatred are natural byproducts of obsessive thinking, which is not healthy or actual human nature but implied and supposed.   Our discussion is simple: Try, Rely, and Apply. There is no belief, faith, hope, or conclusion in consideration. Any difference between doubt and certainty or desperation and inspiration is determined by how well or poorly thoughts are aligned with all that exists and all that is happening, which includes all that we are doing - NOW.  Nowhere is NOW-HERE. There is no time like the present since there is no time to like or dislike Presently. Omniscience, Omnipotence, and Omnipresence cannot be dislodged, misplaced, or replaced by thoughts of time or space. Here We Are: wholly, completely, and without exception or negotiation even while we can freely choose to think otherwise and thus feel unwise, and useless. Intuition is knowledge beyond reason, which means Knowing is not thought-based. Intuition is Wisdom that Is All Knowing Ever Present Inspiration. Essence is essential and thus The Source of All That Are seamlessly melded with All That Is NOW. Our discussion is not about infertile mass-debating or coming to new echoes of chronic thoughtless terms but conceding Life's terms are currently in perfect order and place. The lack of maturity we've come to tolerate in leadership today is astounding. Impulsiveness isn't authenticity, volume isn't strength, and tantrums definitely aren't leadership. True leadership demands emotional maturity, and that's exactly what we're exploring in this episode of This Is Woman's Work. Our guest, Dr. Christie Smith, is an author, international speaker, and advisor with over 35 years of experience guiding Fortune 500 C-Suite leaders on strategy, culture, and leadership. She's held executive positions at Accenture, Deloitte, and Apple and is the founder of The Humanity Studio™, a media, research, and advisory institute revolutionizing the way we work to improve the way we live. Her new book, Essential: How Distributed Teams, Generative AI, and Global Shifts are Creating a New Human Powered Leader, just hit the shelves. Dr. Smith joins us to discuss how emotional maturity is a superpower for women in leadership. This conversation is an invitation to embrace the challenge of leadership—not just with confidence and capability but with presence, groundedness, and a willingness to grow. Because leadership isn't about being powerful or perfect—it's about being human. Things we think shouldn't be happening equals the lack of attention and interest we have and so pay dearly by avoiding what there is to learn. Asking for what we want and have - then beg for answers - admits the desire to avoid, distract, deny and react to the windfall of information inherent in what is actually happening including the trouble we asked for. Denial like any lie denies itself revealing the actual lack of any basis such thoughts have - in Reality. To think of such thoughts as reality is to begin the crusade of imagining there is no other reality. Feeling alone is not an accident - it is a co-incidence of thoughtlessness. Nothing really is something orZero would not survive turning Some things into no thing. This applies to thoughts that matter.  No thought and no body Has control over us that We don't freely concede Truth is still true even if no one believes it A lie is still a lie even if everyone believes it Buddha…..”the ‘lightness of being' warned us that life allows us no revisions or second drafts, and this could be ‘unbearable', but it could also be liberating.”Milan KunderaThinking about thinking itself is thought centered - not our self. Convinced it must act alone, it begins to hoard resources, reproducing without harmony, building a community of disconnection we call a tumor. Cancer, then, is not simply a disease—it is a story about miscommunication, about what happens when any living thing loses its place in the greater whole. Step back, and it's hard not to see the same pattern unfolding around us. We are a species untethered.  Cities rise while ecosystems crumble.  Communities fracture. We pour our time and attention into screens, constructing intricate digital lives while our real connections wither. Somewhere along the way, like that single cell, we've forgotten our voice in the chorus. But every breakdown carries within it the seeds of breakthrough. It's a reminder to stop asking, “How do we fight this?” and start asking, “What is this teaching us?” Healing is not war. It's collaboration. And every layer of life—biological, personal, planetary—thrives not in isolation but in relationships. So where do we begin? Not with grand gestures or perfect solutions, but by re-learning the language of life. The language of reciprocity. Of listening. Of asking, not what we can take, but what we can contribute. Comments / Questions welcome : hereMOD episodes have no shelf-life or expiration date.  Our focus is principled so each episode reflects the immediate peace and stability of our Ever-Present Knowing Awareness that clarifies conflicted impressions manifest by the instability and hyper-reactivity of obsessive thoughts purely “imagined reality”.  When sleepwalking seems normal it is still an altered dysfunctional state of thinking's use that causes our functional incapacity and consequential sense of worthlessness reflecting the devaluation of our culpability. If the essence of existence exists then it is essential. To think we can be excluded from what is essential is to look at our world through the upside-down lens of misunderstanding mistakenly imagined to be reality and truth. Thoughts of this nature are as defensive as they are divisive as their rhetoric since acting at odds with reality causes conflicts with everything including thoughts themselves. Inner conflict, emotional turmoil, and mental anguish are body language guiding awareness that something is wrong. Wrong thoughts are not a chronic problem until they are believed to be right. The essence of existence is as stable as it is simple since it does not change; It IS True as Reality is Real. Changing thoughts imagined to be real and true causes internal anxiety and fear and trying obsessively to exact revenge externally is as impossible as it is to turn imagination into reality. The odds of getting even are zero, as human history reflects, the storied fight for what is wrong as right, goes on.  It is no wonder we keep searching for resolution while we ignore the nature of insanity as a wholly contrived possibility of induced insanity, not our nature or Reality.  We Know We Know. We Are Aware We Are Aware. We Are as We Are. Reality is unlimited and never changes. The idea that how and what we think creates reality suggests otherwise. Comments / Questions welcome : hereMOD episodes have no shelf-life or expiration date.  Our focus is principled so each episode reflects the immediate peace and stability of our Ever-Present Knowing Awareness that clarifies conflicted impressions manifest by the instability and hyper-reactivity of obsessive thoughts purely “imagined reality” so that sleepwalking seems normal while it is an altered dysfunctional state of thinking's use that causes the consequential functional incapacity and sense of worthlessness reflecting the devaluation of our culpability. Since we are free to choose how we think nobody else experiences the suffering or benefits greater than the thinker of them.  Bodily functions cause body sensations. Cause and effect are co-incidental since effects immediately follow Feeling wrong mirrors wrong thoughts. Thoughts are something we have and repeating thoughts is not something we “have” to do. We have thoughts so can't be thoughts so it is our choices that are wrong that we feel - not who we are that is wrong. To be wrong about this is to think we are stuck while we decide that wrong is right which causes such feelings. Clingy attachments to sticky thoughts are words frequently used historically to show how suffering in life can be achieved. No words can account for what and how we hear them. All there is to Know is always Present now. There is our natural basis for informed, inspired decisions. Seeking elsewhere is to think All that is here is not here and so seeking has never been enough to fill this imagined gap between us and it.  This is the root of mental addiction. This problem is not with Life or Reality but our choice to act on fantasy as reality. This is typical obsessive thinking that is so commonplace since the place we're in now is the only place thoughts occur. Induced insanity may appear normal while it is not.  We may think we don't know, while we know, and perpetuate the mythology of the ages that there is nothing we can do but repeat the same ruinous ideas. Human nature is natural while induced insanity will never be no matter how commonly it occurs. The freedom to think what we want comes with the freedom to not think in chronically dysfunctional manners, no matter what we think. To use Absolute Freedom to condemn our experience and the plight of our existence is to see how free we are to choose to go as wrong as we like.   The Mental Obsession Discussion:We Know We Know. Mental Obsession Discussion

Comments / Questions welcome : hereThoughts are products of Reality,Thoughts process reality,Thoughts do not create reality, Nor can they be who, how, or what we Are. We cannot Be something we do, nor can we become something we have or do - even when we think we can, even when we think we do.  We're free to think what and how we want right or wrong. Imagining right as wrong or wrong as right is a right that the freedom to think what we want offers. That does not make this approach right. To entertain ideas that are insane does not affect Absolute Reality - it dramatically affects our mentality, behavior, and functional capacity. Neither our discussion nor any directed or non-professional participant comments are a medical or scientific diagnosis, prognosis, academic thesis, advice, or religious service.  We do not encourage stopping any protocol, program, practice, exercise, regimen, ritual, or therapy you are on or that may be suggested.  Nor do we suggest you discontinue taking direction or prescriptions from anyone you are free to rely on including professionals. MOD episodes have no shelf-life or expiration date.  Our focus is principled so each episode reflects the immediate peace and stability of our Ever-Present Knowing Awareness that clarifies conflicted impressions manifest by the instability and hyper-reactivity of obsessive thoughts that are purely “imagined reality” so that sleepwalking may seem normal. Sleepwalking pays little if any attention to what is happening. What could go wrong? Check your experience for clues. Feeling better is getting better at feeling what is actually happening and what is felt is the result of how and what we think. To think that feeling better about what is wrong gets us over what is wrong is a compulsion, like any addiction, used as a distraction to consume our attention. This cover of darkness, like any seeming secret, is the defensive posture of denial, defiance, and delusion since it is a lie. “Fixing” induced insanity by thinking more about “it” obsessively produces more unstable mentality followed by outward corrupt toxic actions.  Scarcity ( scare - city; “self-centered” fear ) is an induced environ-mental, dysfunctional condition. It is a choice dependent solely on the thinker coming to believe there is no other actual reality.  Seeing and hearing things only as imagined is not seeing and hearing things as they are. Illusion thought to be reality is induced insanity - directed by the thinker experiencing the manifest anguish. Inner conflict pronounces how we are thinking. Noticing pays attention and is a wise investment. Consider these things. The Mental Obsession Discussion:We Know We Know. We Are Aware We Are Aware. We Are as We Are. Reality is unlimited. To sleepwalk through life is to pay little if any attention to what is happening. What can go wrong? Check your experience. Brains judge naturally. Judging is not wrong unless incorrect. For as long as we think that thoughts are Reality the nature of judgment is turned into spiteful contempt, not only for what we are thinking of - but for Reality and Truth. Feeling condemned is the natural effect of maintaining contempt-full thoughts. It is the condemned nature of the thought that is felt, not Reality. To be wrong about how and what we think about Reality and Truth is to destabilize subsequent thinking and turn our great potential into dysfunctional behaviors that lack any benefit greater than an opportunity to learn - if we read the signs.Reality is not a trick, magical, wishful, or miracle. Wishful thinking becomes vain hope once we think thoughts are reality and we then can be turned into only what we think. The Mental Obsession Discussion:We Know We Know. We Are Aware We Are Aware. In this podcast, I delve into the fascinating world of communication styles and energy. I believe that at the core of all communication lies energy, and each individual possesses a unique archetype that represents elements like wood, metal, earth, and fire on a subconscious level.Personally, my core element is wood, which resonates with qualities such as creation, innovation, and intuition. It's intriguing to contrast this with the energy of metal, which emphasizes slowing things down and waiting for the opportune moment in the market. What I've observed is that a significant majority of leaders operate based on programming, following business trends and getting caught up in guru hype, rather than tapping into their instinctive nature. This can be quite detrimental, as impulsiveness and intense emotions can easily lead us astray and trap us in a box of burnout. What You'll Discover: Communication styles and energy are interconnected, forming the foundation of effective communication. Each individual possesses a unique archetype representing elements like wood, metal, earth, and fire.Leaders often operate based on programming and external influences, neglecting their instinctive nature.Impulsiveness and intense emotions can lead to burnout and distract us from our true path.Finding flow involves sequencing activities and allowing for restoration to reconnect with our higher minds.Balancing high-intensity activities (Yang) with ample restoration (Yin) is crucial for wellbeing.Deep work helps center ourselves and filter out distractions, focusing on our core archetype.Harmonizing our nervous system with nature's rhythms provides sustained clarity.Practical steps include joining group hypnotherapy sessions, deep breathing, and staying present.Equal time for reflection, daydreaming, and restoration is essential.Alignment with our core essence and purpose enables playing the long game and making a unique impact.  Clear marketing stems from clear thinking.2 FREE Ways to-Discover Your True Essence-Align with Your Archetype-Balance Yin and Yang Energies

In many situations It is often the case that the best action is no action. When it is for our highest good to wait and let our emotions settle before we speak or act on how we're feeling. This power in this pause is a direct demonstration of the Divine Feminine wisdom that honors our higher knowing self rather than out smaller ego self. Waiting until we have a clear head and heart to make decisions, have a conversation, or connect with someone. On this Identify and Heal solo episode, I offer a few different examples of when it's best to pause before responding to a situation as well as when taking a pause from certain people or environments in our lives can be beneficial. In addition, I give some tips on how to push through times when we have the urge to act impulsively in a situation, disregarding agreements we've made with ourselves and without considering if a choice is helpful or healthy. Nothing wrong with any of the above, it just becomes a matter of what do you really want and if you're ready to commit to getting there. Mark Twain once said, “Never put off till tomorrow, what you can do the day after tomorrow.” As an antidote to that Ralph welcomes Professor Piers Steel, author of “The Procrastination Equation: How to Stop Putting Things Off and Start Getting Stuff Done.” Plus, Ralph urges listeners to sign up for The Capitol Hill Citizen Association, another way to organize citizens to put pressure on the branch of our government where things must get done, the United States Congress.  Dr. Piers Steel is one of the world's leading researchers and speakers on the science of motivation and procrastination. Dr. Steel is a professor in the Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources area at the University of Calgary, and is the Brookfield Research Chair at the Haskayne School of Business. He is the author of The Procrastination Equation: How to Stop Putting Things Off and Start Getting Stuff Done. The root of procrastination is impulsiveness. Impulsiveness is valuing the now more than the later… We're designed to value the now. And this was really adaptive for a long time. It's not a bad trait. It's just that we've designed a world to take advantage of every little flaw that we have in our decision-making system.Dr. Piers SteelYou have to deal with yourself as an imperfect, flawed creature and deal with the reality of that. We're not robotic angels of perfection. We have limitations. And when I actually act within my limitations, I get stuff done.Dr. Piers SteelWe're superstars of self-control in the animal kingdom. We're able to hunt and kill most anything because we're willing to actually put in the delay of gratification. That's really what makes us great. But we're still not ready for things that are happening even a year off, much less five or ten.Dr. Piers SteelMore people will listen to what we just said about becoming part of the Capitol Hill Citizen Association and say to themselves, “I'm going to get around to doing that,” than the actual number of people who do it in a prompt period of time. So it would be very good to listen to Professor Steel's suggestions and read his book, because we cannot afford procrastinatory citizens. We have a procrastinatory Congress, and the citizens have got to get them to anticipate, to foresee, to forestall so many of the omnicidal urgencies that are coming at our country and other countries around the world.Ralph NaderTo become a member of the Capitol Hill Citizen Association, click here.In Case You Haven't Heard with Francesco DeSantis1. On August 28th, 20 groups – ranging from Left-wing anti-war organizations like Veterans for Peace to Right-leaning government transparency groups like R Street Institute – sent a letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees demanding they maintain Rep. Jamaal Bowman's Cost of War amendment in the final National Defense Authorization Act. This provision “requires public disclosure about the cost of the U.S.' overseas military footprint and gives the American people greater transparency on military spending.” Hopefully, the left-right consensus on this issue is enough to maintain this amendment.2. In other Pentagon news, the Intercept reports that Rep. Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida, has introduced an amendment demanding the Pentagon “collect information on trainees who overthrow their governments,” following the recent spate of coups in Africa. Gaetz told the Intercept “The Department of Defense, up until this point, has not kept data regarding the people they train who participate in coups to overthrow democratically elected — or any — governments.” This could become a flashpoint as Congress prepares to consider the 2024 NDAA when it returns from recess in September.3. As expected, tensions are running high in Guatemala following the upset victory of anti-corruption crusader Bernardo Arevalo. Opponents of Arevalo had urged the country's electoral tribunal to suspend his Semilla party on dubious legal grounds, which the tribunal resisted hewing to the letter of the law which dictated such actions could not be taken during the electoral process. After the election however, the party was officially suspended. Now, Reuters reports that suspension has been revoked, following a mass mobilization of Arevalo supporters in Guatemala City. It seems unlikely however that Arevalo's political opponents will accept his victory without a fight.4. In a dangerous, anti-free speech move, the Attorney General of Georgia has filed RICO indictments against 42 individuals involved with the Stop Cop City protest movement, the Atlanta Community Press Collective reports. This is the latest in a long line of attempts to quash opposition to the project, which has so far included trumped up domestic terrorism charges and arrests for handing out flyers.  5. Bloomberg reports that President Biden and Brazilian President Lula will jointly call for new worker protections at the upcoming General Assembly of the United Nations. While the article notes the two leaders have been “at odds” over China and Russia, they align on the topic of labor unionization. The two presidents have found common ground before, such as on the issue of climate change.6. Visual Effects workers at Disney have filed for unionization, per the Hollywood Reporter. Approximately 80% of VFX staff have already signed union cards, demanding an NLRB election and representation by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees or IATSE. This comes on the heels of a similar announcement by VFX workers at Marvel, a Disney subsidiary. In recent years. studios have increasingly relied on VFX workers in a rather blatant attempt to cut costs, as VFX workers have generally been non-union.7. At long last, the Department of Health and Human Services has announced the first ten drugs that will be subject to Mecicare negotiations to bring down prices. These are: Eliquis, Jardiance, Xarelto, Januvia Farxiga, Entresto, Enbrel, Imbruvica, Stelara and – crucially – several brands of insulin. HHS noted that “These selected drugs accounted for $50.5 billion in total [Medicare] Part D gross covered prescription drug costs, or about 20%, of total Part D gross between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.”8. The Washington Post reports Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su has proposed new overtime rules intended to “extend overtime pay to an additional 3.6 million salaried white-collar workers in the United States.” According to current rules, workers are exempt from overtime if they make over $35,568 per year; the new rules would extend to workers making under $55,000 annually. If implemented, this would mean a whole new class of workers would be eligible for time-and-a-half pay if they work more than 40 hours per week.9. Per Republic Report: “The U.S. Department of Education announced…that it is cancelling $72 million in student loan obligations for more than 2,300 former students who attended for-profit Ashford University between 2009 and 2020.” Yet, even now the shady operators behind Ashford may still be able to squeeze money out of the taxpayers via a convoluted buyout by the University of Arizona Global Campus. Still, this marks a significant victory in a legal battle that has raged for over a decade, with Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa calling Ashford a “complete scam” all the way back in 2011.10. Finally, in more debt related news, the Philadelphia Inquirer has published a piece detailing how the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt was able to purchase – and forgive – over $1.6 million in medical debt. As the piece explains “When hospitals or physician groups have delinquent debts they have little chance of collecting on, they'll typically go to what's called the secondary market and sell their portfolios for pennies on the dollar.” It was on this secondary market that RIP Medical Debt was able to buy $1.6 million worth of debt for just $17,000. In celebration, “30 proud, self-described gutter-pagan, mostly queer dirtbags in their early 30s,” gathered for a ritual burning of an oversized medical bill. Someone chanted “debt is hell” and the crowd responded “let it burn.” Get full access to Ralph Nader Radio Hour at www.ralphnaderradiohour.com/subscribe

Dealing with distractions is a common challenge that many professionals face in their everyday lives. Traction (the opposite of distraction) is the force that drives us towards our goals and objectives, keeping us focused on the tasks that really matter. In order to combat distractions, it's vital to create a plan that outlines the necessary steps for achieving success. This includes setting clear objectives and breaking down goals into manageable tasks, while also allocating specific time for relaxation or personal enjoyment.  By doing so, individuals can achieve a balanced life that fosters productivity and happiness. During this conversation with host Melina Palmer, Nir Eyal emphasized the importance of distinguishing between distraction and traction. Contrary to popular belief, the opposite of distraction isn't focus, but rather traction. Eyal explained that distractions are anything that pulls us away from our true goals, while traction is any action that brings us closer to achieving them. He urged listeners to create schedules that align with their values and to stick with them, ensuring that they devote the necessary time and focus to what truly matters. Enhance concentration through gaining traction and structured planning to mitigate distractions. Utilize technology with intention for peak productivity and enriching personal experiences. Overcome internal triggers by comprehending the nature of discomfort and controlling urges. Create value-driven schedules to bolster time management and sharpen focus. Employ tactical tools and approaches to curb the influence of digital distractions. Show Notes: 00:00:00 - Introduction, Melina Palmer introduces the episode and the guest, Nir Eyal, who is a behavioral designer. She talks about how Nir's book, Indistractable, helps people overcome distractions and become more productive. 00:04:30 - Personal Reason for Writing Indistractable, Nir Eyal shares his personal reason for writing Indistractable. He talks about how he was distracted by his phone while spending time with his daughter. Research and personal testing made him realize the problem was much deeper than just technology. He decided to explore the root cause of distraction and find an answer that actually worked. 00:09:40 - Distraction is an Old Problem, Nir talks about how distraction is not a new problem and has been with us for at least the past 2500 years. He explains how people have always blamed various forms of entertainment and technology for distracting them, and how it's lazy thinking to blame technology for distraction without understanding the root cause. 00:11:14 - The Opposite of Distraction is Traction, Nir Eyal explains that the opposite of distraction is not focus, but traction. He defines traction as any action that pulls you towards what you want to do, and distraction as any action that pulls you away from what you plan to do. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the difference between the two. 00:12:27 - Tools for Finding Balance, Nir Eyal talks about the importance of finding balance when it comes to using technology. He shares some tips and tricks anyone can use to help with this (a tiny sample of all the resources in his book). 00:13:47 - Understanding Distractions and Traction, Nir Eyal explains that distraction is anything that pulls us away from what we planned to do and anything can be a distraction. Conversely, anything can be traction if we make time for it and plan it according to our values. Becoming indistractable means living with personal integrity and knowing why we got distracted. 00:18:28 - The Root Cause of Distraction, Eyal identifies the root cause of distraction as our inability to deal with discomfort in a healthy manner. We use distraction as psychological pacification and escape uncomfortable emotions. To become indistractable, we must first learn to deal with the discomfort in a healthy way by fixing the source of discomfort or finding ways to cope. 00:19:48 - Human Motivation, Nir explains that human motivation is not about the pursuit of pleasure and avoidance of pain but rather spurred by discomfort. We have two neural circuits, the liking system and the wanting system. The purpose of the wanting system is to create discomfort to get us to act. Time management is pain management, and to master distractions, we must first master internal triggers. 00:22:21 - Time Management and Addiction, Addiction isn't just about substances or behaviors but is more about our need to escape from discomfort. We must fix the source of discomfort or learn to deal with it in a healthier way. Eyal shares the story of Dr. Zoe Chance, who became temporarily addicted to her pedometer as she was using it to escape her life. 00:27:21 - The Evolution of Internal Triggers, Evolution has made us perpetually perturbed and hardwired for things like hedonic adaptation, rumination, and boredom to keep us searching for more. We are not designed by evolution to be satisfied, but to strive, search, want, and crave, which helped our species progress. The idea is to channel these uncomfortable sensations towards traction rather than distraction. 00:29:21 - Mindset and Reimagining Temptation, Our brains are wired for mindset issues, and we need to reimagine our temperament to become indistractable. If we have an issue, we need to understand the root cause and channel our mindset towards traction instead of distraction. We can reimagine the task, trigger, or our temperament to master the internal triggers, which is crucial to becoming indistractable. 00:32:00 - The Nuances of Technological Distraction, Our relationship with technology and other distractions is a nuanced discussion. Everything has unintended benefits and harms, and it is crucial to take a deeper look. We need to understand the good stuff that's happened and not just the negatives. If something is not serving us, we should disconnect and use what we want with intent. 00:35:23 - The Story Behind the Moral Panic, Every moral panic throughout the years has had a scapegoat, and this time, it's technological distraction. It's dangerous to believe in scientifically unsupported theories, which leads to learned helplessness. The evidence is scant, and the story is much more nuanced. 00:41:33 - Why We Need to Become Indistractable, Nir Eyal talks about how constant interruptions from Facebook and the news distract us and how hacking back our phones and offices can help us become indistractable. 00:42:14 - How Distractions Come from Colleagues, Eyal discusses how distractions from colleagues in open-office plans can impede work progress and how a simple explicit message can help. 00:43:10 - The Role of Pre-Commitments, Eyal explains how pre-commitments can help prevent distraction and promote personal integrity. 00:48:29 - The Antidote to Impulsiveness, Eyal emphasizes that the antidote to impulsiveness is forethought and how we should use our ability to see into the future to plan ahead. 00:50:08 - Conclusion, Melina's top insights from the conversation. Many traders fall into the trap of mistaking impulsiveness for courage. Oftentimes, actions based on impulse are driven by the fight or flight response, rather than rational thinking. Courage in trading requires facing one's own beliefs and being open to the flow of information in the market. This can be challenging, but it is also an opportunity for growth and success in trading. Why is it important to train the mind to have beliefs that correspond with the market without triggering emotional pain? How can you face your existing fears and beliefs with courage and rebuild them? This week, we head under the mask, with a hockey goalie, who is a perfectionist, a hall of famer, and a huge drunk, who causes problems at hotels, and seems very willing to fight police officers. He was a hero, wherever he played, and that seems to be part of the problem, because even judges would tell him what a hero he was, while they were sentencing him. He persevered, though. And his latest arrest was caught on video, and it's as embarrassing as it gets! All of this, while owning a company that makes whiskey! What a mess!Work your way into being a hall of famer, sharpen your own skates, and get into "a fighting stance", if any authorities tell you to leave!! Check us out, every Tuesday! One of Satan's traps is to get you out of sync with God's timing due to your impulsive behavior. Impulsiveness is the act of doing something without thinking it through. Impulsiveness will destroy your destiny. If Satan can cause confusion and controversy, he can divide and conquer. The number one flaw in the Christian life is arrogance and often impulsive behavior is part of this flaw. Think before you speak or act. You must live by thinking not by emoting. Emotions are the enemy of thought. “A fool expresses all of his emotions but a wise person controls them” (Prov 29:11). A wise person is the one who has the divine viewpoint of the mentality of Christ and he controls his emotions. Wisdom gives you understanding, discernment and insight. Discernment to be able to recognize and control your hidden flaw of impulsive behavior. Awareness That Heals with Robert Strock
Moving from impulsiveness to conductors of our tone of voice - Episode 46

Who among us hasn't been in a disagreement or argument in our lives? In those moments, we could find ourselves speaking cuttingly or with an injurious tone of voice. Sometimes, we may not even realize our tone of voice expresses such harsh emotions.  Your tone of voice is immensely impactful, but it is not something most of us are usually aware of. It can be an indicator of how we're feeling inside — anxious, happy, stressed or angry. More often than we realize, our tone of voice may give away our internal feelings and emotions, whether or not we realize it.  In this episode of Awareness that Heals, Robert explores how tone of voice can be a source towards fulfillment and better understanding — both for ourselves and those around us. One of the critical steps is to learn to identify the different tones and emotions we may have — putting a specific name to our feelings is integral to understanding them. Robert recommends two (free) Introspective Charts that have over 75 emotions and healing needs that you can use to help you better express yourself.  Cultivating a greater sensitivity in our tone of voice isn't simply beneficial to others. Tone of voice is also how we think about ourselves internally — an Inner Tone, so to say. Loving yourself when you're doing everything right and feeling great is almost too easy. But when there are negative feelings in play, it becomes much harder to be kind to ourselves. Developing a congruence with our feelings, emotions, and tone of voice is challenging for most of us at first but it is within our capacity if we give it enough attention. Becoming aware of the way we think about and talk can help us become more empathetic — towards ourselves and our loved ones. This will also help us take better care of ourselves in challenging situations without injuring the person we're talking to.  If you're on the receiving side of a negative or harsh tone of voice, understanding a conflict in words and tone can help you view and respond to a situation differently. We are the makers of our tone of voice. The idea is to gradually become more able to reflect our best intentions to take care of the situations we find ourselves in with our tone. But as Robert notes, improvement right away isn't always realistic. Sometimes we cannot improve our tone immediately, but becoming aware of it is a good starting point. That will help you care for yourself and others without resorting to a potentially injurious tone during challenging emotional situations.  Read the transcription and listen to this episode at Awareness That Heals.
