Following on from Part 1, Justin, Olivia and guest host Chris Jones (of the "Hall of Songs" podcast) explore Elvis's Hot 100 hits that never made it to the Top 40, closing out the movie era with tracks from Speedway and Live A Little, Love A Little and moving into the 1970s, a decade that surprisingly offered Elvis far more pop success than may often be perceived, as only 5 of his single A-sides charted outside the Top 40 (and only the Christmas and gospel singles not charting whatsoever in the Hot 100). Also touched upon are the three posthumous Hot 100 hits that never reached the Top 40: The Elvis Medley, and the remixes of A Little Less Conversation and Rubberneckin'. For Song of the Week, Chris is inspired by having recently watched "The Big Lebowski" to pick Elvis's 1966 home recording of the Sons of the Pioneers cowboy classic that opens that film, "Tumblin' Tumbleweeds," while Olivia goes deep on the extensive history behind Elvis's version of the apocalyptic spiritual "I, John," rooted almost entirely in Black gospel tradition until Elvis's 1971 recording released on the "He Touched Me" album in '72. Dave also had his second vocalist audition for the Band of Mum and Dad as well as a familiar sounding Country Duo called Tumbleweed...
In part one of our exploration of the Transylvanian tyrant turned tourist trap, we break down some of Dracula's origins. Don't worry, this is not going to be that same old "Dracula is based on Vlad the Impaler" lecture that you've already heard. It's much stranger than that. And much more wonderful. Then we start to place the good Count into some of his earliest theme park appearances.Part 2 should be up next week! Thanks for listening! We'd love it if you would give us a cheeky little review on your podcast platform of choice. This episode, Ben and Elise talk with Derick Fiedler.Growing up, Derick never saw his father without a camera in his hand. His Father's passion for photography inspired him to become a photographer himself. After graduating from College, Derick made backpacking throughout the world a priority. He took with him his Fathers Olympus mirrorless camera with a 20mm lens that easily fit into his pack. Derick traveled throughout the US and places such as Spain, the Sahara Desert, Thailand, Galapagos Islands and Peru, where he captured moments of beautiful places, people, and cultures. Behind each photograph is a story that means everything to Derick. After the pandemic, Derick switched gears and was able to combine his love of music and photography. He now photographs DIY live music shows and band portraits in the greater Philadelphia area. You can follow Derick on instagram at @tumbleweed_photographer.This episode's opportunity is for Derick's solo show opening at The Gallery at Steel Pixel Studios titled "What A Long Strange Trip It's Been." It features both the band and travel photography of Derick. The opening reception will be on December 14, from 6-9pm, and will feature acoustic performances by Kaile of Mars Counsel, Wyatt Davidick of Felt Rite, and Miles H of Food Truck. Next up on this action-packed season of Shred With Shifty, country superstar Keith Urban joins Chris Shiflett to walk through some of his most iconic solos and unpack some fine details behind his successful music career. Strapped with the '51 Fender “Nocaster” that he used to record the solo on “Tumbleweed,” Urban walks Shifty through some of his guitar secrets, like how he came to own Waylon Jennings' iconic, leatherbound 1950 Fender Broadcaster (hats off to his wife, Nicole Kidman, for that one). Urban tells avid surfer Shiflett why he never got into surfing while growing up in Australia, and remembers his earliest influences in the country's music scene. Low-gain players like Mark Knopfler, Ray Flacke, and Lindsay Buckingham helped shape Urban's lead-guitar tastes, imprints you can hear in the capoed, drop-D solo on “Stupid Boy.” (Urban says his new solo record, High, features more of these theatrics.) Amid the fretboard analysis, Urban talks about his “love-hate relationship” with his Fractal amp-modeling unit, which he still leaves at home when he plays live—a 100-watt Marshall Super Lead and PRS J-MOD 100 still reign supreme for Urban's concerts. Tune in to learn how Urban's unique pick grip gave his solos some extra percussive edge, how he keeps his chops up, and which artist he'd want to “gunsling” for. “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." - John 15:1-5

Strata 9, Immersion V1, Loins and Lust (Limerence).Limerence is a uniquely human phenomenon that new lovers, potential lovers, and sometimes even strangers, may experience. Limerence is a state of mind (not solely romantic) that typically includes persistent, sometimes depressing thoughts, and a deep yearning for the object of one's affection. It can be easily confused with love. Often human beings can find themselves addicted to these obsessive feelings and can easily be overwhelmed by adoration for another human being. Limerence cannot be turned on and off like a machine. It can come from nowhere and disappear without logic. The experience of this sensory state is proven to be inspiring, connective, unifying, disruptive, and even excruciating, yet it continues to mark the human trajectory of existence through time and place. 'Good dundeal Mr. Renyke Man.' said Flex excitedly.''We leave at dark, mind,' said Shabra. 'Take some time for food and rest. You might need your strength. I will get food.' Renyke watched her take weapons from the vehicle, knives and a small crossbow. The group is in an enclosure flanked by half-deconstructed concrete walls. There are large metal containers lying around with shrubbery and foliage trying to make a stand against the manmade environment. Tumbleweed played in the soft wind searching for a home.Maybeline scurried around searching for food and sniffing the air. She could smell something sinister, the scent of danger, as Renyke studied her movements.Flex kicked some redundant ashes by an upturned metal water tank. 'I can make us a fire,' he said, taking a pocket full of old rusty lighters and tinder from one of his huge pockets. His brightly coloured patchwork overcoat seemed to store an abundance of useful things. There were small pieces of mechanical paraphernalia, vintage innards from antique items, little motors, motherboards and old PC parts. There were secret pockets and compartments for weapons and a waterproof lining held everything together.‘Do you take this stuff everywhere you go?' asked Renyke.‘Yes sir-ee, some days man'dun gotta make swapsie-trade. .And other days, well, there are enemies and they kill for the fun of it. Everything has a use in the Zones brother. You learn that quick here. Maybeline found a water flow from a pipe tucked in the grass and took a long drink.Renyke began to pace, 'Shabra is taking her time,' he said, standing near the opening of the enclosure.‘She'll come, she is huntin' tis all my friend. You got attached already?'Renyke stared at Flex and mumbled, ‘We need that ride.'Then he checked the POS whose signal was intermittent.'.......What are the signs of being attracted to somebody?'The POS took a moment to compile a response……..……Do you mean human responses?'……yes, yes, of course ‘humans', Renyke replied.'The POS continued…..nervousness around the subject of the attraction,…..extended thoughts about the subject,…..obsessive thoughts beyond normal curiosity about the subject,…..insomnia due to obsessive considerations of the subject,…..anxiety over possible outcomes of imaginary scenarios involving the subject,…..a desire to touch the intimate parts of the subject,…..dreams about the subject,…..fantasy building scenarios between the human and the subject,…..being overly concerned about….‘Enough,' said Renyke, irritated with the voice in his head. Finally Shabra returned. She carried two dead rabbits in her belt and washed a wide glinting blade under the water that flowed from the broken pipe.‘This water's good. Your rat is a good scout for provisions. We can fill up the tanks and flask before we go.'The new acquaintances are relaxed and considering preparation for the short but dangerous car journey to the Edge.Shabra checked the vehicle mechanics, the doors and metal buttresses worked in perfect synch and there were six exhausts. She filled the water kegs and put them in the boot.‘Where is the vehicle from?' Asked Renyke.‘I built it,' answered Shabra, 'from scratch. 'Well, I had several wrecks and put my beaut together.Me n her, we like lovers. She drives me crazy with her vibes.'Shabra looked at Renyke parting her lips into a wry smile. They were oily from the fat of the meal. She winked through long dark lashes.Renyke felt a thump in his heart, a deep penetrating surge of something enthralling.Suddenly there is a distant high-pitched sound, like a siren or swarm. It seems to be getting louder when Flex and Shabra grab Renyke, throwing him into the vehicle.Seconds later they were surrounded by a marauding mass of screaming children. Some were made of broken body parts with human faces, others were small walking babies with burnt skin. Some had extra limbs and even two heads. They were crying and screeching, banging toy drums and chanting verses. One of them seemed to be the leader and he leapt onto Shabra's bonnet. The noise was deafening.....to be continued....© 2024 Sarnia de la Maré / Tale Teller Club

The scene opens on a dusty street. Weathered wooden buildings with false fronts line either side of the street, as two gunslingers line up at high noon. A lone tumbleweed drifts across the street… which, actually, is the problem we're here to discuss today. Tumbleweeds, also known as Russian thistle, are an invasive plant here in the United States. And for people in Central and Eastern Washington, they're a nuisance that can clog roads and pose a potential fire hazard. So when reporter Anna King found that these invasive plants were being sold online as elegant decor – she was understandably curious about why. She joined Soundside to discuss her recent reporting on how tumbleweeds are managed, and how they spread so far. Guests: Anna King, reporter for the Northwest News Network covering Washington and Oregon mainly East of the Cascades. There is a lack of new faces at Motspur Park, and Fulham's squad looks very thin as we hurtle towards that opening day at Old Trafford. A year ago today, Fulham made the first signing of 23/24, but as of right now, the squad looks a lot weaker than it did at the end of the last campaign. There is some news - Rodrigo Muniz has taken the Number 9 shirt, which sparks a discussion about his role in the squad ahead of this season; and we get into some of the latest names linked with the Cottagers - Samuele Ricci, Crysencio Summerville, Kalvin Phillips, Scott McTominay, Jota Silva, Alexis Saelemaekers and Jayden Oosterwolde, as well as revisiting the latest on André, which is now firmly a saga. There's also time to talk about Jay Stansfield and the reported offers from Birmingham for his services, and some thoughts on the Academy as a whole; the latest addition to our pre-season tour which feels like another slap in the face to fans; and the state of the Hammersmith End toilets! -- 00:00 - No new friends 07:11 - RM9 has arrived 13:38 - Transfer priorities ranked 18:19 - Latest lads linked 34:19 - Why would we let Jay leave? -- SHOW-LINKS: If you enjoy Fulhamish, please consider contributing a small amount monthly to help pay our costs. Ruth Reichl joins Carol Fitzgerald to talk about THE PARIS NOVEL, which is a Bookreporter Bets On selection. The concept for this book was born from a section in SAVE ME THE PLUMS, Ruth's 2019 memoir, which prompted her longtime editor, Susan Kamil, to ask for a novel with that as a starting-off point. Ruth talks about why she set the book in the 1980s, as travel then was so different from what it is now. Yes, she dined at all the places mentioned in the book and remarks that she is surprised that more has not been written about Shakespeare and Company, and the Tumbleweeds who lived there. She also shares something personal from her childhood that influenced how she created the character of Stella. Kentucky Kingdom's Sarah Worrell joins us on the Access Louisville podcast this week to talk about what's next for the park. The biggest change is several months out, but exciting nonetheless: 'Christmas at Kentucky Kingdom.'The idea, she explains is a family-friendly wonderland that will even include a snowmaker and snow-tubing. It's part of an $8 million investment and comes a few years after the park was acquired by Herschend Family Entertainment in 2021. Worrell, who came on board just after that deal, said the company is looking to create four seasons of fun. After the interview we talk about a few recent news stories, including Kentucky's first Montessori school hitting the market for $2.5 million. We also chat about Gustavo's opening at a new location and Tumbleweed closing one location. Access Louisville is a weekly podcast for Louisville Business First. It's available on popular podcast services.

What a way to end the season! This week the lads catch up with the head elf from the BBC's brilliant QI TV show, James Harkin. Here is a man who brings the trivia in a ridiculously impressive way. He's got facts and he knows how to use them. In tribute to some of their worst jokes on the podcast so far part 1 contains an explanation of the Tumbleweed plant. Tumblin' Tumbleweeds! It's Ray Farrell!! . . . . YOU DON'T KNOW MOJACK is a podcast dedicated to exploring the entire SST catalogue, in order, from start to finish. During the podcast we will discuss all the releases that are part of our core DNA, as well as many lesser-known releases that deserve a second chance, or releases that we are discovering for the very first time (we actually don't know Mojack!). First and foremost we are fans, and acknowledge that we are not perfect and don't know everything – sometimes the discussion is more about a time, place, feeling, personal experience or random tangents, and less about the facts (but we will try to get to the facts too). In this episode Tim Pilleri and Lance Reenstierna speak about several weird news stories in a series we like to call Weirdspace. First we speak about the criminal charges recently filed against Pierce Brosnan. Next we discuss a large tumbleweed and scary tumbleweeds in general. Then we discuss a gross story out of Colorado where two owners of the Return to Nature funeral home are charged with sickening things. Then we name the winner of the World's Ugliest Lawn Contest. Our next story is about a venomous snake found in a young child's drawer. Then its Esmerelda the escaping emu and an exploding toilet at Dunkin in Florida.
