Are you letting the golden handcuffs of a corporate salary destroy your health and rob you of true time freedom? In this powerful interview, Billy Keels sits down with Glenn Hicks, a former telecom CIO who walked away from the corporate C-suite at 48 years old after a life-altering health crisis to design life on his own terms. The Sunday scaries aren't actually about Sunday - they're about the weekend not having any real shape. In this episode I break down my three-part weekend framework: Friday as the intentional wind-down, Saturday as the day for actually living your life, and Sunday as the gentle reset that sets you up for the week. With a summer lens throughout, because a good summer weekend has a very specific quality to it.What I cover:

Merch - https://nonmembersshop.com/We kick off the episode by celebrating World Ocean Day and establishing a new strict deep-sea mandate: scientists need to completely stop discovering new, terrifying ocean creatures because humanity has officially hit its maximum capacity for unknowns. Erin details her highly specific ocean rules, explaining that she will only step foot in clear water during low tide because anything resembling high-tide seaweed, jellyfish, or a slimy freshwater pond is an absolute scare. Still recovering from our wild Las Vegas weekend and battling a massive wave of Sunday Scaries, Erin recaps a local backyard pig roast shindig she attended.Shifting over to fitness, Erin gives an exciting week seven update on her "Pull-Up Revolution" program. Because traveling threw off her routine, she had to smash multiple workouts back-to-back, leaving her body completely wrecked but yielding massive progress. This progress prompts her to recount an hour-long argument on a Vegas casino floor with triathlete coach Noel Mulkey, who claimed she could do a pull-up right now using "mind over matter".Mike then details a birthday trip to "Activate," a high tech indoor playground that feels like stepping straight into a Mr. Beast or Squid Game challenge. He spent an hour and a half jumping over glowing spy lasers, memorizing patterns on flashing floor tiles, and aggressively chucking balls at asteroids on a screen to clear a team scoreboard. Erin explains that her favorite part of the day is nesting in her couch corner to play Fortnite duos with Dan. We debate the game's massive age demographic and its chaotic mechanics, from dropping out of a flying bus to taking "magical trinkets" off defeated players. In major sports news, we analyze the Enhanced Games dropping a massive announcement: a whopping $10 million bounty for any athlete who can officially break Usain Bolt's legendary 2008 100-meter world record of 9.58 seconds. This leads into a massive wave of track and pop culture news, starting with the International Olympic Committee president going viral for a tone-deaf statement against paying Olympic athletes prize money. We look forward to the tech billionaire funded Athlos women's only track event in New York City this October, and celebrate Flavor Flav securing approval from Las Vegas commissioners to host "She Weekend", a massive, free public block party on the Vegas strip this July to support women's sports. We then dive into the courtroom drama where the Chicago Cubs are suing the owners of the iconic "Wrigley Rooftops" bleachers across the street, attempting to stop them from selling private vantage point tickets after their historical 17% revenue sharing agreement expired in 2024. While the Cubs claim lost revenue, the rooftop owners claim property rights, prompting us to mock the stadium's dry, $20 chicken tenders. We wrap up the episode with a heartwarming "No Bad, No Sad" story about a neighborhood Pet Walk Tour in Fairmont, Philly, where community members gather to spot cats in windows and hand out golden retriever high fives to build community.
It's a raw dog episode, which means no safety rails and barely a plan. The boys get into Sunday Scaries, couples going to bed together, Kevin surviving on I-4 micro naps, Jason accidentally walking into a Charlotte club in sandals for chicken wings, and a neighborhood pool party that somehow ends with cops, swim tests, and a water cannon. The 2000s comedy bracket rolls on with I Love You, Man, Tropic Thunder, Step Brothers, and Without a Paddle, while the crew debates fake Tom Cruise hands, hot sake, Billabong shirts, music taste, Pride Month landmines, and Kevin finishing the Infinity Saga with his girls.
For episode 293, I'm joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes on Emmy season content and, of course, TV Topics. This episode, we get into the box office and cultural phenomenon that is Backrooms and Obsession. I wrote a bit about it here in the most recent Sunday Scaries column, while my Obsession review is here. Myles has seen both, while I'm about to catch up with Backrooms, so there's variety in our chat. I've also caught up on The Sheep Detectives, which I loved, and tell Myles all about Masters of the Universe (reviewed here). Throw in some questions and it's a tight little episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 293rd one to date (here's to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. More to come each and every single week, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening!

Text your thoughts and questions! If Sundays elicit a sense of dread or a creeping feeling of anxiety that builds as the day progresses, you are experiencing a very real psychological phenomenon known as the Sunday scaries. This anticipatory anxiety occurs when your brain projects into the unknown of the week ahead and treats that uncertainty like an immediate threat. Data shows you are genuinely not alone—recent studies from early 2026 reveal that a massive 88% of Americans experience this weekly dread. The good news is that you cannot simply logic your nervous system into relaxing, but you can take action. Taking small, deliberate steps interrupts the mental spiral, grounds your brain in the present, and allows you to reclaim your weekend. This week, episode 315 of the Positively Living® Podcast maps out a calm, intentional, and minimal weekly reset strategy that eases the transition back into your routine on your own terms.Key TakeawaysUnderstand Anticipatory Anxiety: Sunday dread is a physical threat response triggered by your brain projecting into an uncertain weekly schedule.Interrupt the Spiral: Small, intentional actions shift your brain away from worst-case future scenarios and ground you in the present.Establish a Calm Space: Clear your immediate environment before you plan, as visual clutter leads directly to cluttered thinking.Unplug for Clear Focus: Turn off all phone notifications for just five to ten minutes to allow your nervous system to focus without distraction.Empty Your Mental Storage: Complete a pen-and-paper mind sweep to capture pending tasks, free up cognitive capacity, and stop mental rumination.Practice Minimum Effective Planning: Avoid over-planning every hour, which creates rigidity and guarantees frustration when real life disrupts your schedule.Build a Skeleton Plan: Layout core commitments and just one key priority per day instead of an exhaustive, rigid task list.Focus on Monday Only: When completely depleted, plan only for the next day's non-negotiables and map out the rest of the week on Monday morning.Choose Your Best Window: Reset when your natural energy peaks, whether that means a quiet Sunday morning, Saturday afternoon, or Friday before closing down.Thank you for listening! Hour 2 opens with reaction to fans camping overnight outside Enterprise Center for a concert by Bring Me the Horizon, sparking debate over fan culture, safety downtown, and rising ticket prices for live events. The discussion quickly pivots to international politics, with Marc arguing President Trump holds strategic leverage over Iran and China amid tensions tied to the Strait of Hormuz, and criticizing Iran's rejected proposal as weak bargaining from a collapsing economy. The hour's political focus intensifies with Marc condemning comments from Mark Kelly regarding U.S. munitions, while also highlighting remarks from Erika Kirk at Hillsdale College on family roles. A major segment explores nationwide childcare protests, with Marc arguing “Day Without Childcare” events are politically driven efforts tied to socialist-leaning policy goals, while Kim acknowledges the financial strain childcare places on families. The show then shifts into local St. Louis politics and media, including speculation about broadcaster Steve Savard returning to a larger role at KSDK and ongoing concerns about crime in Dutchtown, where residents are proposing shared security camera networks. The hour concludes with financial reporting from Nicole Murray covering mixed markets, AI-driven stock gains in companies like Alphabet, retail strategy shifts at Target, and broader economic anxiety reflected in “Sunday Scaries” workplace stress trends. What if the biggest barrier to student success isn't curriculum, funding, or leadership - it's that we're burning out the very people holding it all together? In this episode, we sit down with Charlie Burley - The Teachers' Health Coach - to get real about the burnout crisis hiding in plain sight across our schools. Charlie shares the moment his own breakdown became his calling, and why fixing teacher wellbeing can't just mean a yoga session at the next INSET day.Charlie Burley is a former primary school teacher turned health coach, author, and founder of the Building Better Balance programme. After burning out in year five of his teaching career, navigating chronic stress, anxiety, and panic attacks, he retrained as a nutritionist and mental health coach and has spent the last seven years working with individual teachers, school leaders, and multi-academy trusts to rebuild wellbeing from the ground up. His diagnostic framework, the Six C's, gives schools a clear picture of where their culture is thriving and where it's quietly crumbling. In this episode, we cover:- Why teachers are burning out - the personal, professional, and systemic factors that pile up unseen- The Six C's framework - Care, Clarity, Capacity, Competence, Connection and Contribution, and how Charlie uses them to diagnose wellbeing across a whole school- Staff before students - Charlie's (perhaps controversial) argument that putting school staff first is the only way to genuinely serve children and families- The Sunday Scaries - what's actually happening in your brain on Sunday evenings, and Charlie's practical three-step approach: Calm, Clarity, Certainty- Marginal gains for mental health - why five minutes before you walk through the school gate might matter more than any wellness programme- Coaching in education and why it's normalised in sport and business but still underused in schools, and what changes when you bring it in- The community cure - Robin Dunbar's research on loneliness, why connection is the first chapter of Charlie's new book, and why belonging might be the most underrated lever in educationIf you're a teacher running on empty, a leader wondering why your wellbeing initiatives aren't landing, or anyone who cares about what education could look like when the people inside schools are actually looked after - this one is for you. Charlie brings the lived experience, the research, and the practical tools. No toxic positivity. No empty platitudes. Time for a guided visualization exercise: How to squash the Sunday Scaries. Because maybe it's Sunday night for you right now. Maybe tomorrow morning is already starting to creep into your mind. The inbox. The meetings. The decisions. The people. The deadlines. The things you know are waiting for you. Or maybe it's not Sunday at all. So this episode is an invitation to pause. To come back to center. To remember that you do not have to solve the entire week tonight. You do not have to carry Monday before Monday arrives. You do not have to be everything to everyone. You simply get to breathe. Choose what matters. And take the next right step. So, how does it work? Simple! May the 4th is famous among Star Wars fans, but there's a different force affecting all of us—especially each Sunday around 4 p.m. The Sunday Scaries strike hard, revealing a deeper issue that can't be fixed by simple self-care routines. This episode is all about the force pulling you toward action, and the one whispering that you should just stay in bed. I'll show you how to flip the script and walk into Monday morning excited, not exhausted, before the week even starts. Featured Story Last week, I had a call that's still echoing in my mind. A client told me, "Scott, I'm fine Monday through Friday. It's Sunday at 4 p.m. that ruins my life." I laughed because I knew exactly what she was talking about. Between that first and second cup of coffee, your mind starts playing scenes: the inbox left unchecked, the meeting not prepared for, the conversation you've put off. Three minutes in your head, and you're already spinning. Most people miss something important here: You aren't actually behind—you haven't even lived a moment of Monday yet. Important Points Your Monday dread isn't weakness — it's data telling you what matters, so stop trying to medicate it with self-care. No amount of Sunday bubble baths will fix what's really happening, but a Thursday plan will change everything fast. Pick one thing for Monday morning before bed Sunday, and start on it the second your feet hit the floor the next day. Memorable Quotes I'd rather be afraid of myself than be afraid of going to work on Monday morning, so I quit hating Mondays years ago. On Sunday night, you're not exhausted from the week; you're exhausted from a week that hasn't even happened yet. The dread is the data telling you what matters most, because if Monday didn't matter, you wouldn't dread it. Scott's Three-Step Approach On Thursday afternoon, sit down and plan your entire next week so every single decision for Monday is already made. By Sunday at 4 p.m., the panic has absolutely nothing to feed on because your Monday morning is already decided. Wake up Monday morning and start on that one thing right away, no warm-up or coffee strategy session needed first. Okay, real talk — I recorded this episode while sick. Stuffy, congested, the whole thing. But I promised you a new episode every Sunday, and a promise is a promise. So here we are! This week, I'm breaking down something I see come up again and again with the women I work with: the difference between normal hard and soul-draining hard. Because here's the thing — not all hard is created equal. And if you can't tell the difference, you'll either stay somewhere you should've left long ago, or you'll blow up something that just needed a little more patience.I walk you through 11 different areas — energy, Sunday scaries, self-talk, growth, identity, tasks, time, wins, relationships, your body, and the big picture — and give you a real, honest T-chart comparison so you can take an honest look at your own situation.I also get personal. I share what it was like having a toxic boss who made me question my own work ethic (spoiler: I was putting in 40+ hours a week — it was him, not me), and why so many of the women I talk to end up in tears on our discovery calls — not because something's wrong with them, but because they've been powering through soul-draining hard for so long.If you've been feeling like you're losing your spark, questioning your worth, or wondering if you're "the problem" — this episode is for you.**********Timestamps:0:00 — Welcome to Cultivate Your Joyful Life1:07 — Introducing today's topic: Normal Hard vs. Soul-Draining Hard2:21 — Why this matters (especially for high-achieving women)4:35 — The 11 signs: starting with Energy6:35 — Sunday Scaries: dread vs. normal nerves7:56 — Self-Talk: "I'll figure it out" vs. "What's wrong with me?"10:36 — Growth: progress vs. spinning your wheels15:37 — Time: losing yourself in work vs. watching the clock crawl16:22 — Wins: meaningful vs. hollow victories17:19 — Relationships: healthy conflict vs. walking on eggshells19:07 — Your Body knows before your brain does20:49 — The Big Picture: the clearest sign of all22:51 — What to do if you're ready to make a change**********RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:Free Masterclass — 3 Steps to Getting Clear on Your Next Career Move: https://cultivitae.com/clearApply for a Strategy Call — https://cultivitae.com/applyLearn more about Inner Magic (90-day program): https://cultivitae.comFollow Emily on social: @cultivitaeYOU MIGHT ALSO LOVE THESE EPISODES:Ep. 025. This episode is truly a game changer for anyone struggling with work stress, work life balance, or honestly, just having a job in general (so, everyone?) We are welcoming back psychologist and bestselling author Guy Winch to tell us how not to let work run (and ruin) your life. We discuss how to actually turn off after work, boundaries when you work from home, a ritual for curing the Sunday Scaries and not dreading Monday morning, learning how to appreciate your job (but also, when you should quit), and tips for vacationing better including his "triple dip" theory. We also discuss work stress in a relationship, including the effects on your sex life and how not to absorb your partner's work stress. Before Guy joins us, we have a celebratory (and awkward) moment for our 8-year anniversary, and we're recapping Rayna's tour kickoff and frigid trip to Florida. Enjoy! Follow Guy on Instagram @guywinch and get his new book Mind Over Grind. Follow us on Instagram @girlsgottaeatpodcast, Ashley @ashhess, and Rayna @rayna.greenberg. Visit girlsgottaeat.com for more.
