How do you reason with a 13-day-old baby? On Free State, Joe deals with the after effects of a night trying to soothe an unsoothable newborn while Dion feels like he's taken a role in Falling Down. They look at Israel's attack on Lebanon. Israel is preparing for a ground invasion of the country. Will the west do anything to stop them after the sickening failure to stop the slaughter in Gaza? They reflect too on the death of Kris Kristofferson, a singer of integrity with a relentless commitment to justice, which he knew had to be justice for all.Free State with Joe Brolly and Dion Fanning is a Gold Hat Production in association with SwanMcG Productions. For more on Free State: https://freestatepodcast.com/ Hosted on Acast. We are in a series all about lies the enemy places in our lives. The worst part about lies and deceit, is when we don't even know when we are being deceived! Let's learn how to align your thought life with Jesus, resist the devil's schemes, and experience the freedom God offers!

In this episode we look at how Jesus used truth to defeat the devil, we can do the same in our situationsJohn 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 2 Timothy 3:16-17All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Following on from our last episode on the films of John Huston, we thought we'd change things up with a look at two more John Huston films. This time it's his first, and still one of his most iconic films, The Maltese Falcon, and a rather more obscure outing from over a decade later that's considered a loose parody of that films form, Beat the Devil.
No! I'm not crying...my eyes are sweating...ok, so maybe I am crying! Bob Ross is a national treasure and bad people did bad things to him and his family. This documentary is kinda like watching a puppy being used instead of a soccer ball at the world cup. And the episode is actually very good, but not easy to listen to. How do you beat the Devil? In today's message from Pastor Bill, he teaches you that the enemy is out to steal, kill, and destroy. The enemy is like a lion looking for someone to devour. However, Pastor Bill explains that there are three things needed to beat the devil's schemes. When you feel attacked, quickly go to the throne of grace, ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and use the Word of God. These three things will help you triumph over any attack the enemy sends your way. God is your ever- present help!
Do you make fasting a spiritual discipline within your life? As you listen to today's message from Pastor Bill, he teaches you about fasting. Fasting is working on the ability of saying “no” to the flesh and instead drawing near to the Lord. Pastor Bill encourages you, that when you can say “no” to your stomach, you can say “no” to anything. Fasting is a way of re-aligning your priorities and making sure that your relationship with God comes first! Consider a time this month that you could fast unto the Lord.
Bob Ross would say, "Maybe in our world there lives a happy little tree over there," you may have a few more clouds in your patient assessment than someone else, but that is okay. Each patient assessment is unique but everyone was given the basic concept of providing excellent patient care. How you choose to paint your clouds or place your trees is up to you. On this Podcast, Bob analyzes how practitioners perform their patient assessments and ways we can improve on our compassionate care of patients. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/brush-up-on-ems-with-bob/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brush-up-on-ems-with-bob/support

We also discuss their 1953 spoof film, co-written by Truman Capote, Beat the Devil.
This time on our Jennifer Jones ‘cast it's two movies based on novels by Communists, bafflingly made during the early Cold War era, one a failure and one a hit. We start with the failure, the original Dirtbag Left hang-out movie, John Huston's BEAT THE DEVIL (1953). It was based on a novel by Claud Cockburn (one-time Stalin apologist), with script contributions from Cockburn and a hot young novelist named Truman Capote. Then we turn to another critique of colonialism, Henry King's Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing (1955), based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Han Suyin (future Mao apologist). Released in 1953, this independent production didn't garner much in the way of accolades or revenue at the box office. In fact, it's been called a "lost classic". For one reason or another it's fallen into the public domain. You can watch it online via the Internet Archive. Described as a mix of film noir and comedy, the cast is solid, the director, well, it's John Huston and the script? Written in collaboration with Truman Capote. What could go wrong? Is it really a "lost classic" or has it been forgotten for good reasons?
A #1 pop hit song kicks off this tale of inner city kids and their inexperienced but masterful teacher and how they all end up deeply affecting each others lives. A powerful portrayal by the consummate Sidney Poitier, and a wonderful job of writing and directing by James Clavell bring combine to make a truly memorable movie. So travel back in time with us to the dock yards, back alleys and school rooms of London, 1967. Next episode we kick off a three movie marathon of John Huston and Humphrey Bogart movies, starting with the Maltese Falcon, then Treasure of the Sierra Madre and ending with Beat The Devil.
Under the direction of legendary director John Huston, Bogart is back with Peter Lorre trying to swindle uranium out of Africa in this underappreciated cult classic!
Third time's a charm.Show favorite Mishka Shubaly returns to the podcast today for round 3 to chat about addiction, sobriety, rock ‘n roll, ultrarunning, relationships, writing, creativity and his fantastic new Kindle Single, Beat The Devil. But mostly we talk about chasing dreams. The inherent force, value & gestalt of a dream. How much you are willing to sacrifice in pursuit of a dream, even when it constantly deludes and eludes you, undermining, derailing and even destroying other important aspects of your life. How to know whether the dream you seek is the right dream. And when — and if — it ever makes sense to abandon a dream that persistently fails to materialize.Mishka and I have a shorthand. A large percentage of our friendship has taken place on microphone, but there is a palpable sense that we have always been friends. And that's because — although our life experiences are very different — our mental & emotional points of reference share powerful common turf. Indeed, Mishka is my brother-from-another-mother; and once again it comes through undeniably in this exchange. Our bond aside, I feel an imperative to share his palpable creative voice. A master of humility, self-deprecation, frailty and fear, his evocative prose is a dagger into the heart we all share — our common condition as human. It's an important voice, worthy of notice and praise. An opinion I harbor not in isolation, but one shared by the literati, including a top editor at The Atlantic who goes so far as to say Mishka is “the voice of our generation”. That phrase gets bandied about all too commonly, but in Mishka's case it's truth. With 4 consecutive Amazon #1 bestsellers ( Shipwrecked*, The Long Run*, Are You Lonesome Tonight?* and Bachelor Number One* ) he is a true master of the short narrative. Now he's back at it. Beat The Devil*– his newest offering — just hit #1 in Amazon's Kindle Singles category yesterday.A deep dive into the downtown New York rock ‘n roll club scene, Beat The Devil* is Mishka's first-hand account of battling ...
