On today's episode of Locked On Yankees, Stacey talks about the weekend but more specifically Sunday's game because that's the one that finally got the Yankees into the playoffs. The Yankees had a tough battle to deal with over the weekend because even though the Rays had clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, they were still playing as if they hadn't and the Yankees had trouble on Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday before they finally broke through and scored in the bottom of the ninth to prevent a scary Game 163 scenario and make it so things are still scary and they have to play a one-game, winner takes all game in Fenway Park against the Red Sox. Stacey marvels at Gio Urshela's play from Sunday and wonders if Bronxie is okay after the celebration in the Yankees' clubhouse.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. I haven't slept, and neither have the Yankees. As the AL Wild Card continues to be a mess, the Yanks keep pushing, mostly thanks to Giancarlo Stanton. Will our hard work pay off? Will Bronxie be the good luck charm? This week is going to be the death of many of us, but hopefully, it all pays off and we live to see October baseball. This is either going to be heartbreaking or the best year ever, and it will take us all the way to game 162 to determine it. The Yankees followed up their massive sweep of the Red Sox in Fenway with a gigantic series W in Toronto. Robbie Ray turned back into a pumpkin on Thursday as the Yankees tagged him for four bombs. The bullpen continues to be lights out and now with the the return of Lasagna they are at an optimal level. Aaron Judge continues to mash despite a busted pinky. The Baltimore Orioles are now forever our great pals after what they did to the Sox this weekend. All of this thanks to a magical turtle named Bronxie who was adopted right before this hot streak. The Yankees are cooking, let's take care of business this weekend and secure the number 1 Wild Card spot. Outro Song: “Together Now” via APM Music Library

Adam Weinrib and Thomas Carannate get to do two of their favorite things: rejoice in a joyous Yankees victory in Toronto that helped avert disaster and make the rest of this series VERY interesting (praise Giancarlo Stanton), AND talk about Chris Sale's tantrum while losing in Baltimore. Hello everybody, and welcome back to the third episode of "New York Sport of Mind"! Some HUGE things have happened in the world of NY sports in the last week, so let's get to it. As the title of the episode shows, the bad news of the week is the so far abysmal season for the Giants continues as they fall to 0-3 with a buzzer-beater field goal by the Falcons. A season that was, and still sort of is still, full of hope, is starting to slip away, and it's only Week 3. But don't take our word for it., Giants all-time leading rusher Tiki Barber was in the guys hometown of Binghamton, NY this week, where he also had some choice words for his former franchise. The good news that has come out of this last week, the YANKEES ARE RAKING! After sweeping the Rangers last week in a 3-game series, the Bombers crushed their divisional rival in Boston over the weekend with another series sweep, and becoming the sole leader for the top Wild Card spot... but how long will it last. The boys take a deep dive into what worked against the Red Sox, including the magical workings of the Yanks new mascot "Bronxie". Even BIGGER news, if listening to the podcast isn't enough, we're also now on social media! You can find us on Twitter and Instagram @NYSM_podcast and @newyorksportofmind respectively. We appreciate the hell out of all of you who have turned in every week, and we can't wait to keep this going! Thank you all for tuning in, and remember, it's a New York Sport of Mind!

Brian Briggs, former singer, lyricist, and guitarist with the band Stornoway, takes over the Tweet of the Day output this week. Brian who has had a lifelong passion for the natural world and birding, even completed a PhD on ducks. Stornoway, who's third album Bronxie (the colloquial name for the arctic skua) finally disbanded in 2017, allowing Brian to convert his hobby and long standing love affair with birds into a career. He is now is the reserve manager of the Wetlands and Wildlife Trust's Llanelli Wetland Centre. With a lifetime of bird knowledge, Brian recalls the other-worldly sound of Manx Shearwaters, calling from their burrows on the island of Skomer in west Wales, the largest known concentration of these birds in the world. You can hear more from Brian in the Tweet of the Week Omnibus, available on the Radio 4 website and on BBC Sounds Producer Andrew Dawes
