Hour 3 - We started the hour with the news from Sports Business Journal that said for Subway Series viewing, SNY had 70% more viewers than the YES Network and we are trying to figure out why. Hour 4 - We started the hour with talk of the Yankees win last night, which C-Mac thinks was their best win of the series. They were being no-hit until the 8th inning and were down 5-0 and won the game. Cal Raleigh said after the game their closer was tipping pitches, in particular his slider. BT and Sal dive headfirst into the heated New York baseball trade deadline, dissecting what the Mets and Yankees desperately need and who will be more aggressive in acquiring it. While the Yankees are reportedly eyeing a third baseman and pitching help, the Mets, fueled by Steve Cohen's willingness to spend and a deeper prospect pool, are expected to make bigger splashes for a center fielder, bullpen arms, and potentially another starter, intensifying the crosstown rivalry as both teams battle for the same high-impact targets.

BT and Sal dive into an impassioned discussion about the New York Mets' aggressive approach to the upcoming trade deadline. While acknowledging owner Steve Cohen's "go for it" mentality and the team's perceived championship window, they debate the extent of the Mets' potential moves, emphasizing the need for a top-tier bullpen arm and other significant additions. Sal believes anything is on the table and expects ultra-aggression, while BT urges the Mets to strategically part with prospects for difference-makers, especially given the ticking clock on key players like Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. They also explore potential trade targets like Brian Reynolds and Jose Ramirez, highlighting the Mets' financial advantage in absorbing bad contracts to retain prospects, and ponder a potential Subway Series trade deadline showdown with the Yankees for key players.
In their second hour, BT and Sal pivoted from Yankees talk to focus on the New York Mets, with a central theme revolving around the upcoming trade deadline. Inspired by a conversation with SNY's Andy Martino, Sal expressed renewed excitement for the Mets' potential aggression in acquiring talent, particularly a top bullpen arm and potentially more. They debated the "championship window" for the Mets, arguing that with Steve Cohen's willingness to spend and the core of the team, now is the time to go all-in. The discussion also touched on which prospects the Mets should be willing to part with, contrasting their approach to prospect hoarding with that of the Yankees.
Dan Beyer and Monse Bolanos, in for Covino & Rich, talk about Mets owner Steve Cohen's recent comments about the vibe at the ballpark between the Yankees and Mets and what the crew would prefer, which pitcher could come out of psuedo-retirement to try and reach 3,000 strikeouts, and more! Jerry starts with the sounds of Aaron Judge hitting his second HR of the day as the Yankees beat the A's. Jazz had a homer and a triple. The Mets had their most lopsided series defeat in history this weekend against the Pirates. Carlos Mendoza talked about their problems after the game. Gio wonders if it's time for Steve Cohen to do a positive post on X.
Jerry starts with the sounds of the Mets losing to the Pirates. We heard from Evan Roberts and Pete Hoffman after the game. Steve Cohen just posted to X about the state of the team after Gio was wondering why he hasn't posted in a while.
Following former MLB player Dave Parker's passing this weekend, which coincided with the Mets' series in Pittsburgh, Gio reminisced about classic sports photography and its decline due to the internet, while Boomer claimed to have cried over an Islanders draft pick story, which Gio doubted. Both discussed their weekend family entertainment, with Gio attending a dance recital and Boomer's grandchildren seeing the Wiggles. Jerry's update focused on the Mets' continued losses to the Pirates, prompting Steve Cohen to post about the team's state on X, while the Yankees easily defeated the A's with a Cody Bellinger homer. The segment concluded with a discussion of Tom Brady dancing with Sydney Sweeney at a wedding and Gio's dissatisfaction with a thank you from a makeup artist he helped on Fire Island.
Hour 1 The Mets suffered a devastating sweep by the Pirates, prompting Boomer to remark on the team's poor performance and the ineffectiveness of a players-only meeting and Carlos Mendoza's ejection. Given the high payroll and dismal run production, Boomer stressed the need for accountability, while Jerry's update highlighted the Mets' struggles and included sound bites from Mendoza, Lindor, and Frankie Montas, alongside news of the Yankees' victory over the A's. Separately, the Knicks are reportedly considering Dawn Staley as a head coach, a prospect Gio dismissed as unlikely, and Malik Beasley is under federal investigation for unusual betting activity in the 2023-24 season. Hour 2 LeBron James has opted into his Lakers contract, but his agent Rich Paul's statement suggests a desire for a trade, possibly campaigning for Giannis to join the Lakers. This has led to speculation about what the Knicks would offer for LeBron, with one caller even suggesting he become a player/coach. In other news, Aaron Judge hit two homers as the Yankees beat the A's, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a home run and a triple. The Mets suffered their most lopsided series defeat in history. As NBA free agency begins, LeBron's future is a hot topic, while callers debated the Mets bringing back Syndergaard and deGrom, and if LeBron would force Bronny on the Knicks if he joined. Hour 3 Following former MLB player Dave Parker's passing this weekend, which coincided with the Mets' series in Pittsburgh, Gio reminisced about classic sports photography and its decline due to the internet, while Boomer claimed to have cried over an Islanders draft pick story, which Gio doubted. Hour 4 Knicks enter free agency without a coach. NHL draft, Rangers & Islanders picks discussed. LI football player receiving D1 offers. Jerry's final update, REM's ‘What's The Frequency, Kenneth?', Dan Rather & Tom Brokaw discussed. Can Knicks get LeBron? Is Jerry a ‘father figure' to drafted Rutgers players? Mets swept in Pittsburgh, Lindor explains. Yankees beat A's, Judge homers twice. MoD: Eddie gives insulin on Poop Cruise. Wing Bowl returns in February.
BT reacts strongly to Steve Cohen's recent tweet addressing the Mets' abysmal weekend sweep in Pittsburgh, where they were outscored 30-4. While Cohen's tweet attempts to reassure fans by acknowledging the "tough stretch" and promising a return of injured pitching, BT expresses skepticism, suggesting that the team's deeper issues go beyond mere bad luck or injuries. He questions the Mets' overall personality, leadership, and lack of urgency, arguing that their current ineptitude is more indicative of who they truly are, leading to a grim outlook for their playoff hopes if significant, impactful changes aren't made soon.
BT dives into Steve Cohen's recent tweet addressing the Mets' struggles, praising the owner's measured and transparent approach to connecting with the fanbase during tough times. While acknowledging Cohen's previous optimistic "this too will pass" message, BT zeroes in on Cohen's current admission of frustration and surprise, suggesting that an owner of his success and financial investment won't tolerate prolonged underperformance, potentially hinting at significant changes if the team's rough patch continues.

The Ryan Express was rolling along in June of 1975 as Nolan Ryan had just thrown the 4th no-hitter of his career while pitching for the California Angels. The flame throwing righty was doing things nobody had ever seen before, and would continue to do until his bionic arm finally gave out while with the Rangers in 1993. 27 seasons, 5,714 strikeouts, and 7 no-hitters later, Ryan finally was put out to pasture where he continued to be a success in whatever he did… and people noticed. One such person was Leo Ullman who two years after Ryan threw the final pitch of his Hall-of-Fame career purchased 11 Nolan Ryan baseball cards at a $1 a piece… and so began the largest collection of Nolan Ryan memorabilia that has been assembled. Saddles, cleats, bats, balls, if it had Nolan Ryan's name attached to it, Ullman purchased it, eventually amassing close to 15,000 different items in a collection that now resides at Stockton University in New Jersey. Ullman wanted the entire collection to stay input, so instead of it going to the Hall of Fame where they might have picked over the items in the collection, he kept it intact at the campus in Galloway Township. A lawyer by trade, Ullman is also an author, having written a book about his collection titled, ‘Nolan Ryan, The Largest And Most Unique Collection Of All Things Nolan Ryan, The Greatest Power Pitcher Of All Time.” But that's not the only book Mr. Ullman wrote. ‘796 Days: Hiding as a child in occupied Amsterdam during WWII and then coming to America' is the story of Leo as a 3-year old when he was taken in by a couple and hidden in their attic for over 2 1/2 years during the Nazi occupation of Amsterdam. The Dutch resistance put his parents in a different house and it wasn't until the war was over that young Leo was reunited with his birthparents… who survived without knowing if their little Leo had as well. Leo comes on the Past Our Prime podcast and tells us the similarities between his life's story and that of Anne Frank's. He would later go on to become a Director and Chairman of the Anne Frank Center USA and tells us that his war-parents brought him to stay with them knowing they could be executed if the Jewish boy was found for one reason… “It was the right thing to do.” His parents would emigrate to the States and settle in Brooklyn and 8-year old Leo would fall in love with Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers. A few years later the team would break Leo's heart and leave for Los Angeles, but Leo's love for baseball never waned. At some point, his allegiance turned to the Mets and years later, when Mets owner Steve Cohen heard of Leo's story, he invited him to throw out the first pitch at a game… Leo recalls how, much like a former Mets pitcher by the name of Nolan Ryan, he bounced the pitch in the dirt much to his chagrin. But he refused to let his time in that attic define him. Instead, he joyfully tells us how he spent time with the Mets in a fantasy camp years ago and still keeps in touch with his fellow Mets buddies… At age 86, Leo has gone from the nightmare of the Holocaust to a Mets Dream Week… and in between, put together the largest collection of Nolan Ryan collectibles of all-time. It's been quite the life for Leo and he tells us all about it on the Past Our Prime podcast… Give us a listen and drop us a review wherever you get your podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices.
