There's always a reason to celebrate a postseason berth, but how the San Diego Padres did it on Tuesday night might have been one of the sweetest ways they could've ever imagined. While playing their archrival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, at Dodgers Stadium, the Padres turned the first-ever game-ending, postseason-spot-clinching triple play to seal their spot to play October baseball this year.Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman talk about the extremely impressive and rare triple play that Gold Glover Manny Machado kicked off, the sloppiness from the Dodgers last night that we've grown accustomed to seeing in the postseason and if LA fans should be concerned that the boys in blue won't be able to lock up the division. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about the Atlanta Braves taking the first game of the mega-series with the New York Mets and if weather will affect the rest of the series, the Arizona Diamondbacks' rough stretch possibly leading to them not making the postseason and the Detroit Tigers appear to have all but taken hold of an AL Wild Card spot.Jake and Jordan close the show by discussing the Tigers calling up top prospect Jackson Jobe, long-time Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon announcing his retirement from baseball and the letter from Oakland A's owner John Fisher to the fans about why the decision was made to move the team.(1:50) - Padres triple play clincher(16:31) - Dodgers sloppy play on Tuesday(18:31) - NL Wild Card update(23:26) - AL Wild Card update(36:19) - Tigers promote Jackson Jobe(39:36) - Charlie Blackmon announces retirement(45:52) - John Fisher's letter to A's fansSubscribe to Baseball Bar-B-Cast on your favorite podcast app:

Brock and Salk listen back to their interview with Mike Macdonald again and take a look at how confidence, trust and discpiline have equated to so much quality play and creativity. They then bring on ESPN's Jeff Passan to discuss the Mariners odds with just five games remaining, how the AL Wild Card could possibly shape up and more.
The AL Wild Card race has really heated up, especially with the Mariners win last night over the Astros. And the fact the Mariners have had so many different highs and lows is why Salk says you can't read too far into the ups and downs of a baseball season. Later, they re-air their interview with Mike Macdonald after the Seahawks Week 3 win over the Dolphins.
With one week remaining in the 2024 MLB regular season, the Seattle Sports Guy and creator of The Funny 115, Mario Lanza, returns to the Jack Vita Show to discuss the Seattle Mariners' season and the latest trends within the game of baseball. Mario and Jack also take a broader look at the sport, from a national perspective. Mario is one the most knowledgeable Seattle sports fans on the planet. Each year, Mario leaves us a voice message, providing a detailed outlook for the coming Mariners' season, in our AL West Preview show. And each year, Mario has a generally positive outlook entering the season. He's remained quite patient and rational, even while the M's have just barely missed the postseason two of the last three seasons. It appears Mario's patience has run out, however. Find out why this is one of Mario's least favorite Mariners teams of his lifetime. Sunday, the Mariners held a four-run lead over the Texas Rangers entering the bottom of the sixth inning. The M's blew a 4-0 lead, falling to the Rangers 6-5, and squandering an opportunity to move up in the American League Wild Card standings. Both teams in front of the M's in the AL Wild Card standings — the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins — lost on Sunday. With six games left, Seattle is two games back of the Royals for the final AL Wild Card spot. The Mariners are still very much alive, but they have their work cut out for them this week. Three teams from the AL Central sit in front of the Mariners in the Wild Card standings, and all three of them can thank the Chicago White Sox for part of their success this season. Both the Royals and Twins are 12-1 versus the lowly South Siders in 2024, and the Tigers are 9-1, with one series remaining before season's end. Meanwhile, the White Sox (36-120) are on the cusp of putting together the worst regular season record in MLB history. Mario and Jack talk about the 2024 White Sox. Have either of them scene a worse Major League team before? Later, Mario and Jack discuss how dominant pitching has become in Major League Baseball and the remarkable seasons Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are enjoying. Mario and Jack discuss the state of baseball in 2024, thoughts on the 2024 season, baseball fights, and so much more along the way! You can follow Mario on Twitter, @MarioJLanza. He hosts two podcasts: Survivor Historians and Staff Picks. He wrote a book on the first three seasons of CBS' hit reality competition show Survivor called "When it was Worth Playing For". Today in Three Inning Fan The Podcast with Kelley Franco, we discuss The Yankees eyeing the AL East Title, the four-fingered drama with the Red Sox last weekend, how the Yankees closer situation has evolved for the better, and which of their starters will go to the pen. For the Mets, we talk about their aggressive play putting them into the heart of the Wild Card race, tied with the DBacks and ahead of the Braves; Lindor's absence means someone needs to step up, and the very real possibility of a Kodai Senga return this season. Also why the Phillies will keep playing hard even after they clinch, which teams get to face the WhiteSox down the stretch, can the Padres catch the Dodgers, and the AL Wild Card is a baseball team stew. And of course…what to eat while watching the ballgame. *Music by Podington Bear
