Labor Day is unofficially marking the start of midterm season; the moment voters begin tuning into the critical choices shaping November. With narrow congressional margins, Republican leadership faces a tight window to pass a budget, clear legislative hurdles, and set the narrative before early voting begins. Political strategist Colin Reed, co-founder of South & Hill Strategies, joins the Rundown to unpack what lawmakers should prioritize in the months ahead. As both parties look toward November and the fight for control of Congress, Reed examines whether governing or gaining the majority will take center stage. As summer begins to wind down and many students are already back in school, this time of year serves as a natural "second New Year" and a prime opportunity to reset your goals, habits and career. Former Peloton Instructor turned Performance Strategist Ross Rayburn joins Dana Perino to share practical insights on lowering the stakes of resolutions, using breathwork techniques to regulate anxiety and performance, and making courageous career pivots. Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during an altercation at a high school track meet and was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Anthony’s defense team sought a new trial, and hearings this week revealed that prosecutors and the defense had agreed to keep certain evidence from the original jury. In this episode of Zone 7, Sheryl McCollum is joined by civil litigator Reagan Charleston Thomas to discuss what that newly disclosed information could mean for the case. They look at the agreement between prosecutors and the defense that kept information about both teenagers out of the original trial and the strategy behind that decision. Sheryl and Reagan also discuss the Nolan Wells case and the dispute over access to his phone before reacting to Judge Michael Chitty’s ruling denying Karmelo Anthony’s motion for a new trial. Highlights: (0:00) Sheryl recaps the Karmelo Anthony case and introduces civil litigator Reagan Charleston Thomas (3:00) Reagan discusses her work in digital harm litigation and why teenagers’ phones can become critical sources of evidence (4:15) How lawyers build a case by telling a story within the framework of the law (5:30) The agreement that kept damaging information about both Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf out of the original trial (6:45) When a school could potentially face civil liability for known threats, bullying, or violent behavior (8:00) Karmelo’s alleged text about shooting up the school and questions about why prosecutors chose not to introduce it (12:00) A reported statement about stabbing someone and the evidence involving Austin’s prior graffiti arrest (16:00) The role racial tension and concerns for both families' safety played in shaping trial strategy (18:45) Reagan explains why the alleged knife-related text messages changed the way she viewed the evidence and self-defense claim (21:45) Whether jurors should hear the good, the bad, and the ugly when attorneys decide what evidence reaches the courtroom (25:45) What information cellphones may contain, the Nolan Wells case, and the dispute over access to his phone (33:30) Judge Chitty denies Anthony’s motion for a new trial, and Reagan explains why the case is far from over Enjoying Zone 7? Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom said Friday he is declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft, saying he has examined the league's eligibility rules and believes they make him eligible — a claim that is not supported by the WNBA's published rules. In a video posted to X, Mr. Freedom, wearing an orange WNBA-branded sweatshirt, said his team had “carefully examined the WNBA's eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion.”“Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027,” he said. The WNBA's collective bargaining agreement does not contain a self-identification standard. Article XIII, Section 1(a) of the 409-page agreement states only that “only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA,” and does not define “woman” or address gender identity anywhere in the document, according to an OutKick report. Neither the WNBA nor the players' union has publicly clarified how eligibility would be determined for a transgender or self-identified player, the outlet reported.Freedom, an 11-year NBA veteran and the third overall pick of the 2011 draft, said he was not trying to mock anyone.“I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices,” he said, adding that he wants the WNBA's rules “applied equally, consistently, and without exception.”The post is capitalizing on controversy surrounding remarks from Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who said in a July ESPN profile that she wants to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn't have to compete against biological men, while maintaining she does not “hate trans” people. The remarks have prompted rallies and counter-rallies outside WNBA arenas, and Cunningham addressed the fallout again this week, telling a USA Network broadcast that she wants “love and respect” to remain even amid disagreement, while lamenting that the debate has overshadowed the basketball itself, according to an OutKick report.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

We're back here in the Summertime with another edition of the show with sports media takes, news, and info on the "LWOS Media Podcast."Host T.J. Rives gives his thoughts on:Amazing World Cup Final won by Spain (in a less than thrilling 1-0 game) over Argentina and was this the last World Cup for Fox Sports, as the deal with FIFA has expired? If so, they did an amazing job covering the drama and there's ratings success to also to tout. Then, he talks the Friday night real time TV coverage by USA Network and Golf Channel of Bryson DeChambeau's "meltdown" over a two stroke penalty at the Open Championship. It was "tremendous TV" and even with a dramatic win on the final hole Sunday by New Zealand's Ryan Fox, DeChambeau overshadowed it all. T.J. has takes. And, then the unfortunate latest rounds of ESPN firings and non-renewals (don't call them layoffs) that took place this week, where anchor/play by play man Karl Ravetch is the biggest name to be ousted after 33 years with the network, but NFL analyst Ryan Clark is the most controversial and polarizing. We go over over it all and the outstanding journalism by Bobby Burack of Outkick.com to have the story and then, how petty ESPN PR acted to delay him comment and then leak the story to others. We go over a bunch on the "LWOS Media Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple/Spreaker/Spotify, etc.!
