Ahead of the start of the first day of fall camp, Jessica Coody caught up with offensive linemen Teddy Prochazka and Bryce Benhart, runningback Emmett Johnson, defensive back Tommi Hill and linebacker Javin Wright.
Inside Nebraska's Zack Carpenter and Tim Verghese recap Nebraska football's Tuesday's media availability with Matt Rhule, coordinators, and a select group of players. Today's recap is focused on the Blackshirts' emphasis of creating more turnovers, injury updates headlined by the absence of Tristan Alvano, and Bryce Benhart being named to the Outland trophy watchlist.
I am back from my Canadian fishing trip and this week it's time to start talking about the 2024 Nebraska football season. We're going to begin with the offensive line because that's where everything begins. The game is won, the game is lost on the strength of the offensive line and Nebraska's offensive line hasn't been very good for a very long time. One thing to note from last year that's changed. This year there's been no talk of Donovan Raiola being a weak link on the coaching staff. There's been no talk of him at all. Whereas last year we thought that he would be a terrible coach in addition to the new staff. That's proven so far to be wrong. Nebraska has a very experienced offensive line going into this season. Bryce Benhart has 41 starts, which ties the all-time record for offensive line starts before the season even begins. GET A T-SHIRT! HERE
Inside Nebraska's Zack Carpenter and Tim Verghese recap Thursday's Nebraska football spring practice media availability which featured Matt Rhule, offensive line coach Donovan Raiola and Husker offensive linemen Ben Scott and Bryce Benhart. They discuss Rhule's insight on the performance of Nebraska's young QBs, the depth of the offensive line, as well as the emergence of Chief Borders and other 'Jack' linebackers.
-We gave Sip a few things to watch for yesterday during the show; the RBs (Dante Dowdell and Maurice Mazzccua); Vincent Shavers, and of course…the QBs. What stood out?-Sip noted on HuskerOnline that Bryce Benhart looks the part on the o-line…what about the rest of the group?-Also, audio from post-practice…who spoke and what were the most important takeaways?Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Nebraska sits at 5-3. One more win to get a bowl bid - and the game this week is against the 2-6 Michigan State Spartans. Sparty is currently on a six-game losing streak, and things don't look they're going to get any better with Nebraska, Ohio State, Indiana and Penn State left on the schedule. Our beloved Huskers just finished a win over Purdue; an ugly, ugly win, but a win nonetheless. Todd and I discussed... well, honestly, not that much Michigan State talk. We spent much of the time discussing: Jeff Sims at quarterback How the offense is doing under Marcus Satterfield The fact that Bryce Benhart is doing very well because nobody ever talks about him Iowa and Brian Ferentz and Kirk Ferentz Michigan and their sign-stealing fiasco.
-It's almost like Rhule heard us talking yesterday on the show about the offensive line---he mentioned that Bryce Benhart looks really good to him, and the line has talent but needs to play with confidence -What should fans think of the hype surrounding this football team? It is only early April -Also—music to Husker fans' ears---Rhule spoke highly of Thomas Fidone, who we've all been excited to see for a few years but injuries have gotten in the way…what else did Rhule have to say? -There is a lot of veteran presence on this football team, especially on the offensive line. When there is a surplus amount of veterans on a roster, does that automatically make you better? -Is it fair to say that the Huskers were in desperation mode last year? -Plus, an update on Round 1 of The Masters and preview of Round 2 for today… Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
The first part of this show is Jon talking about cybersecurity because he's spent most of this week trying to clean up and recover a hacked system. Greg asks, “Why do people hack into [systems]” and I give a fairly detailed explanation of why this happens, along with some examples where bad guys have stolen identities, compromised people, and stolen money. When you get past that, we start talking about the most important thing Matt Rhule has said yet this spring, which is: Bryce Benhart as a NFL tackle? I would love to see that. There's some banter about the national championship basketball games, and then our surprise guest shows up about 40 minutes into the show. Ryan Tweedy joins us and will continue to join us as he can, so he'll be a new addition to the Five Heart Podcast. We will be moving the show to start at 9:00 pm central as Tweedy lives on the West Coast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Brandon Vogel joins to continue that conversation before Jeremiah Sirles joins to discuss how Rhule's comments relate specifically to Bryce Benhart and the O-Line. Later, Gary Barnett joins for his usual Thursday segment to give his thoughts on the importance of confidence. Hail Varsity Radio is brought to you by Currency. Husker247 Podcast returns to discuss where things sit for Nebraska football at the halfway point of spring practices. Conversation starts with what the trio saw on Tuesday when over at the facility and what perhaps stood out, including observations on both Bryce Benhart and AJ Rollins. From there they run through Nebraska's defense and what is happening at each level, including a look at linebacker and how there's a big difference in the types of players being brought in to help run Tony White's 3-3-5. They also discuss the depth along the defensive line and the maturation of Nash Hutmacher, as well as the volume of players in the defensive backfield and the amount of returning experience. After a quick time out the conversation shifts to the offensive line. What does it look like right now for Nebraska? How can the Huskers survive some depth issues this spring? Then a conversation about oft forgotten Nouredin Nouilli, who missed all of 2022 because of suspension. Does he start immediately? Any concerns about rush? What does that mean for the rest of the position group. Finally there's a breakdown of where things are at for Nebraska baseball as the Huskers are coming off an important midweek win at Kansas State and have a critical series ahead against Michigan. Jon & Todd had their Monday Night Therapy session! Were you there? Were you with us live? If not, you can watch later, and leave us some comments, give us some likes on YouTube, subscribe to our channel, etc. etc. etc. Todd and I had a great ol' time discussing: Nebraska's win over Rutgers - our beloved Huskers held together and let another team be stupid! Wisconsin smashes Northwestern - The Wildcats are quiet quitting Texas crushed Oklahoma - I have no idea what the Sooners are doing Everyone who beat Nebraska is a combined 1-11 since because of the curse of Scott Frost At least we're not Iowa. Seriously. The Kirk/Brian Ferentz situation should be cause for firing someone but... Depth chart changes - Tommi Hill is now a receiver. Bryce Benhart is a sophomore. Rahmir Johnson has barely played this season. I have no idea what we're doing with our roster. Rutgers fired their offensive coordinator after the Nebraska game The fact that Matt Rhule looks like an ewok and do you really want a coach who looks like an ewok? A lot of time on: What can be done to fix the offensive line? A fair amount of time on: What about Purdue? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Is Nebraska's win over Indiana feeding false hope into the fan base? Dr. Rob isn't ready to go that far. However, in this edition of the Doc Talk Podcast presented by Betfred Sportsbook, Dr. Rob and Travis Justice remind everyone that the Hoosiers aren't a very good team and were missing two of their best wide receivers. Dr. Rob's report card for the game was not as generous as many would have liked coming off a win. Dr. Rob's Report Card Running Game B- Passing Game B- Offensive Line C- Defense C+ Special Teams B+ Overall C Dr. Rob is particularly critical of the offensive line. Specifically the play of Bryce Benhart and Turner Corcoran. Dr. Rob knows a thing or two about O-Line play and knows the Huskers running and passing games could be much better if the line or the personnel changed. The win over Indiana is a step in the right direction for Nebraska. The confidence builder is a Huge boost for coaches, players, and fans. It is hard not to look ahead because of Nebraska's favorable schedule. Yes, winning the West division is not out of the question. Why? Because the West is horrible! No team jumps out as a clear front-runner. We believe that every game Nebraska left on Nebraska's schedule is winnable except for Michigan. Now, let's not get ahead of ourselves; just because they are winning it's also a reminder every game can easily be lost. You can buy beer at Nebraska basketball games this season. When will you be able to do the same at football games? Dr. Rob says a year, maybe two. The Huskers lose another close one against Colo. The Blackshirts dominated for 40 minutes, but then the dam broke. Colo scores 31 points in the last 20 minutes of the game. Then scored 3 in OT. Frost is 1-6 in games that are decided by 7 points or less and he still does not have a road victory. Maybe it is time for the Frost to start Bryce Benhart? What are your thoughts?
