-Nebraska was in control the majority of the game, with a 13-2 halftime lead and 20-2 lead midway through the 4th quarter before a BC touchdown and a punt block of Brian Buschini on the next possession led to another score, but the Huskers held on-Rahmir Johnson was the hero with the first TD of the game as well as the clinching 4th down conversion late in the 4th quarter to allow kneel downs to win the game-Nebraska's defense was solid in the game, with big performances by players you'd expect (Ty Robinson); and big games from players maybe you wouldn't expect (Vincent Shavers, Donovan Jones)Show sponsored by SANDHILLS GLOBALOur Sponsors:* Check out Cigars International and use my code EARLYBREAK for a great deal: www.cigarsinternational.comAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
We comment on the Nebraska media letting loose in NYC, Rahmir Johnson's storybook ending, and more.
Bad Boy Mower Pinstripe Bowl champs! Mike Schaefer talks about the Huskers win in Yankee Stadium on Saturday and how it was a nice encapsulation of what this season has turned into. A send off for seniors like Rahmir Johnson and Ty Robinson and then a springboard for players like Vincent Shavers, who represent the next wave who look to build off this and play in even more meaningful games in the future. Schaefer touches on Nebraska's play overall, what stood out on both sides of the ball and finishes with thoughts on special teams and why the Huskers can't go through another season with such inept play in the third phase. The Husker247 Podcast resumed on Tuesday as the gang got together to discuss Nebraska's win against Colorado, Christian Jones commitment and the rest of the news over the past few days. It all started with Brian Christopherson giving his thoughts on Nebraska's performance against the Buffaloes and what stood out for him in the game. Then each of the three highlighted a different player with a big performance in Nebraska's win and what their play means this early in the season. Christopherson and Michael Bruntz ran through what Matt Rhule had to say at his Monday presser, Nebraska's concerns on special teams and why Dante Dowdell and Rahmir Johnson have elevated themselves. Things finally finish with a conversation about Nebraska's recruiting efforts, the Christian Jones commitment and where things sit with other visitors from the weekend. Well, the Huskers are 1-0. It's not much, except an improvement over several years of losing the first game of the season. And on top of that, 107 Huskers saw some sort of action in the 40-7 win over the University of Texas - El Paso. Dylan Raiola looked as advertised, as he went oan to be named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. And the targets he found in the field, Isaiah Neyor, Jahmal Banks, and the rest, more than produced. Plus, Dante Dowdell, Emmett Johnson, Rahmir Johnson, and Gabe Ervin Jr all found success running the ball. The defense was crisp, allowing just 205 yards. Greg and Hoss break down the win, discuss the team's depth, and take a little look at this weekend's battle against Colorado.
-The depth chart is out, and Matt Rhule was at the podium Monday in the midst of the first game week of the season---and while Rahmir Johnson was listed first on the depth chart, all the RBs had ‘OR' by them-Rhule said its mostly because of the unique skillset that each RB brings to the lineup, which begs the question…will it change throughout the season? Will one separate ever from the pack?-More on the depth chart…and an interesting backup LT due to an injury is leaving some fans nervous…Show sponsored by SANDHILLS GLOBALOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: betterhelp.com/EARLYBREAKAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
-Last year, it's no news to anyone that Heinrich Haarberg was an average passer but a pretty dang good runner at QB---Dylan Raiola isn't a running type, even if he is capable of taking off-Emmett Johnson was the No. 1 RB in practice, followed by Rahmir Johnson and Gabe Ervin…do you believe in the traditional running game to be good enough for Nebraska this year?-Also, are people aware of the current Husker ties with the New Orleans Saints WR/TE room?Show sponsored by MIDWEST BANKOur Sponsors:* Check out BetterHelp: betterhelp.com/EARLYBREAKAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Two of the top three running backs are gone for the season. One starting quarterback has committed 328 turnovers in 2 games. The other won a game while looking better than expected, but not necessarily being great. In this episode, Jon and Greg discuss some of the issues facing Nebraska, mainly the loss of Gabe Ervin Jr and Rahmir Johnson for the remainder of the season. Also - QB controversy. Do you put Jeff Sims back in after all the turnovers he allowed in the first two games? Or do you run with Heinrich Haarberg who led Nebraska to a win over Northern Illinois last week? Also, the Chatterfields altered the course of the entire show by asking Jon about his hair care routine, which may or may not (probably not) lead to a line of hair and skincare products. And with the exception of a rogue Colorado fan, everyone predicts a Nebraska win over Louisiana Tech.
The Husker247 HypeCast returns on Thursday following Nebraska's first win of 2023 and to get the fans fired up for Louisiana Tech and the Huskers chances of getting back to .500. Making her HypeCast debut is Channel 8 Sports Anchor Lauren Michelsen, who jumps right into things as the group discusses Nebraska's quarterback situation, its offense without running backs Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson and who could break out on that side of the ball. From there its defense and what Nash Hutmacher is doing, who has stood out so far and how the Huskers have built so much depth in a short amount of time. Then predictions. There's some doozies in the oddly specific category followed by some traditional picks to click and finally a clean sweep of game predictions. It's never easy for Nebraska football and that remains true following the news of the week with the Huskers now down two running backs for the season. The Husker247 trio got together on Tuesday morning to discuss how the injuries of Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson affect the season ahead and where things sit following Nebraska's win. Conversation shifts from running back to receiver to tight end and even offensive line as Michael Bruntz and Brian Christopherson take turns walking through the offense and each unit, discussing how things have looked for the Huskers. How much changes without those running backs for either Heinrich Haarberg or Jeff Sims? Can Thomas Fidone become a focal point of Nebraska's passing attack? Has so much happened everywhere else that we've largely forgotten about the offensive line? Then it's time to talk defense and Bruntz along with Mike Schaefer work through how well things went against Northern Illinois, which new defenders have emerged this week and how Tony White has built a system that allows new players to step in and look like seasoned veterans. Finally a little recruiting talk as the Huskers have their first visit weekend for a home game this season. Could Nebraska steal Brandon Baker? Who is the big competition for Jayshawn Ross? This Monday Night Therapy episode was a mixed bag. Nebraska played excellent football (or as well as we've seen for a while) against Northern Illinois in a 35-11 victory. There is plenty of discussion and comments about the game, including how much fun it was (for me) to not freak out every time the offense snapped the ball. Did you know Heinrich Haarberg's nickname is “H”?? That does not sound like a nickname. There's plenty of discussion about whether Jeff Sims should start Saturday's game against Louisiana Tech. Todd says, yes, that Sims should start. He doesn't necessarily defend Sims, but he tells us what he believes is going to happen. Unfortunately, the news today is that running backs Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson are out for the season, along with defensive back Dwight Bootle. This leads to a lot of discussion about the running back room, including whether Jeff Sims should be moved to running back. That answer is a resounding “NO” because we'll still need healthy quarterbacks to get through this season. GET A HOODIE! Use Discount code WIN123 for 15% off until September 22nd.

Cole Stukenholtz and Matt McMaster welcome Husker running back Rahmir Johnson to preview the running back position. The guys also recap NU baseball staff changes and football recruiting and scheduling news.
On this episode of Monday Night Therapy, Todd and I talked about: Football players in the transfer portal! Casey Thompson - why did he leave? How much will it hurt? Ajay Allen - Todd thinks he was the best running back we had. He'd take Ajay over Rahmir Johnson! This comment had me clutching imaginary pearls as one commenter stated. Stephon Wynn - Richard Torres Logan Smothers We concluded that Matt Rhule has won the 2023 offseason national champship, crushing all others. Cayden Becker - a walk-on player who will play TE/H-back at Nebraska transferring in from Wyoming. NFL Draft Only two Cornhuskers drafted: Ochaun Mathis and Trey Palmer Iowa had some players drafted that they seemed to barely use. Todd believes the reason Green Bay drafted Lukas Van Ness is because his sisters are hot as is his girlfriend, and as influencers they will bring much money to Green Bay. Volleyball Had their spring game event in Central City 82,000 people bought tickets to watch volleyball in Memorial Stadium There is a discussion of hot volleyball players, which causes me to remember Annie Adamczak Baseball Has entered the Jekyll/Hyde part of the season NDSU and Maryland Softball 0-3 vs. Northwestern - ouch! Wisconsin smashes Northwestern - The Wildcats are quiet quitting Texas crushed Oklahoma - I have no idea what the Sooners are doing Everyone who beat Nebraska is a combined 1-11 since because of the curse of Scott Frost At least we're not Iowa. Seriously. The Kirk/Brian Ferentz situation should be cause for firing someone but... Depth chart changes - Tommi Hill is now a receiver. Bryce Benhart is a sophomore. Rahmir Johnson has barely played this season. I have no idea what we're doing with our roster. Rutgers fired their offensive coordinator after the Nebraska game The fact that Matt Rhule looks like an ewok and do you really want a coach who looks like an ewok? A lot of time on: What can be done to fix the offensive line? A fair amount of time on: What about Purdue? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
We get a small update to the CFB polls and social standings of colleges. We also get some opinions on Rahmir Johnson's tweets.
-Nebraska's schedule is very favorable this year and especially the first 3 games…how significant would a 3-0 start be for a program that hasn't had a 3-game win streak in the Frost era?-Nebraska left an offense that had QB run involved in 2017 and it failed badly…what makes you confident it will be better this time?-Mike likes the idea of Rahmir Johnson possibly being a Brian Westbrook type of player in the Whipple offense…will those scarred by the unseen ‘Duck-R' be skeptical of what that looks like?-Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
