Geeking out with Caleb about camera gear and discussing the real difference between consumer DSLR's as well as lenses and other gear. Whoever you are, if you want to be a filmmaker there has never been a better time to run out, buy an inexpensive DSLR like the Canon t3i, and a 50mm f1.8 lens and start shooting absolutely beautiful video. Two of the main cameras that Caleb recommends are the Panasonic GH3 and the Sony A7s. We also talk about why, at the time, there is really no reason for filmmakers to buy a DSLR. Caleb himself has started shooting with the Canon C100 which is specifically made for filmmaking. So we talk about the advantages of shooting with high-end cameras vs. DSLRs.Caleb Pike is a camera operator, editor, and podcaster based in Chicago, IL. His experience branches from documentary and commercial, to film and educational material.Proud Member of the IFH Podcast Network! For more great filmmaking and screenwriting podcasts:

Victoria Hike This week we were looking for an easy hike close to Victoria BC. We decided to head out to Gowlland Tod Provincial Park. Our energy has been kind of low (because winter), so we were looking for a hike without too much incline and one that wasn't too long either. We decided on Roundtree loop. The signs were kind of confusing. I think we were meant to go to the right rather than straight, so the beginning of our hike was a gravel road and not too deep in the forest. This trail was not marked at all and we had no idea where the loop was. However, there was a beautiful lookout point and eventually we found our way back to what was probably Roundtree Loop. Once we got onto Roundtree Loop in the forest, the trail was absolutely gorgeous and we were much happier. Our advice is to go to the right of the sign to start! What kinds of file backups you should have, why DSLRs make good video cameras, and what camera settings to use. ----- Welcome to episode 74 of the Food Blogger Pro podcast! This week, Bjork chats with Caleb Pike from DSLR Video Shooter about how you can use your DSLR camera to make great food videos. By now, it’s pretty apparent how powerful food videos can be for a brand. They’re awesome! However, there are a lot of technical things to know when it comes to using your DSLR camera as a video camera. Caleb Pike has made his name by helping people learn how to use their DSLR cameras for shooting video. In this episode, he not only talks about important settings you need to pay attention to, but he also talks about how to make sure none of your video ever gets accidentally deleted. In this episode, Caleb shares: Why DSLRs were such an important invention for video How he monetized his website in the early days Why he thinks creating digital product are the best way to make money How he knew people would want to buy his products Whether you should use a DSLR or mirrorless camera for video How he manages storing video files so he doesn’t lose anything What camera settings he recommends using Why he stopped writing blog posts and started to focus only on video Resources: ProBlogger Essentialism by Greg McKeown Making it Podcast Transcend 64gb Class 10 Memory Card Final Cut Pro Carbon Copy Cloner Course: Equipment & Settings Course: Video Pre-Production If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions for interviews, be sure to email them to podcast@foodbloggerpro.com. Caleb Pike of DSLRVideoShooter.com is the ultimate MacGyver of DIY video. In this episode Caleb talks about how he built his own affordable Hackintosh. Caleb is kind of like Dr. Frankenstein: he has taken the software brains of a Mac and implanted it into the monster hardware of a Windows PC to create a hybrid machine with enormous horsepower to run FCP X - his video editing software of choice. His blazing fast Hackintosh leaves Apple's Mac Pro spinning its beachball cursor in dazed confusion and gasping in the dust. How much did Caleb’s Hackintosh cost? About $1600 - thousands of dollars less expensive than a Mac Pro. In this conversation Caleb talks about finally ditching Adobe Creative Cloud. He no longer has a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud and is getting along just fine without it. He talks about equivalent software that allows him to get the job done without having a monthly bill for the software. Caleb also talks about his philosophy of eliminating things that don’t bring you joy. And after nearly an hour of conversation, we finally get around to talking a bit about cameras and Caleb’s attitude towards gear. #053 - Should you put a lot of effort into trying to make something perfect, even if that means you can only create videos irregularly? Or should you have a schedule and stick to it, even if you are releasing sub-par content? In today's episode we debate consistency vs. quality and which you should strive for most. We also discuss how you can go about achieving both, if you should even attempt to do that, and how the types of content you make may decide it for you.Items mentioned in this episode:Gary Vaynerchuk's Take on Quality vs. Quantity: #AskGaryVee 149Casey Neistat on the Tim Ferriss ShowSpecial guests on this episode:Caleb Pike of DSLR Video ShooterCorbett Barr of FizzlePat Flynn of Smart Passive IncomeRollo Wenlock of WipsterSean McCabe of Seanwes
