EMV Capital advances XF-73 toward late-stage trials for surgical infection prevention

EMV Capital CEO Dr. Ilian Iliev and Executive Chairman Nigel Brooksby joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's progress in advancing XF-73, an antimicrobial drug candidate designed to help prevent surgical site infections. The program represents an important step in addressing a significant healthcare challenge, particularly as hospitals and healthcare systems continue searching for more effective approaches to reduce infection risks and improve patient outcomes. XF-73 is being developed as a first-in-class topical antimicrobial treatment intended to rapidly eliminate harmful bacteria before surgery. The therapy targets bacteria commonly found in the nasal cavity that can contribute to post-surgical infections and complications. Management highlighted that a previous Phase 2 clinical study demonstrated a 99.5% reduction in bacterial nasal carriage within just 24 hours among surgical patients, providing encouraging support for the treatment's potential effectiveness. The company acquired XF-73 and related intellectual property from Destiny Pharma in September 2025 through its Morai Acquisitions vehicle, which was subsequently renamed AMR Bio. Following the transaction, EMV Capital completed a funding round of approximately £1.3 million aimed at supporting the establishment and continued development of the new business. Brooke explained that several important regulatory milestones are expected to drive progress for the program. Planned near-term activities include filing an Investigational New Drug application for XF-73 Nasal, preparing for a Phase 3 trial, qualifying Infectious Disease Product designation, and advancing discussions with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The company also announced that Cardinal Health has been appointed as AMR Bio's U.S. regulatory agent to assist with FDA submission processes. Beyond the United States, the company noted progress on international regulatory efforts. The United Kingdom's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has granted Accelerated Access status for XF-73 under its Innovative Licensing and Access Pathway, a designation designed to support the development and availability of promising healthcare technologies. AMR Bio's broader development plans include securing additional FDA guidance regarding the Phase 3 pathway, building manufacturing capabilities to support commercialization, and exploring partnership opportunities that could help accelerate market expansion and adoption. The company also sees potential applications for the technology beyond surgical infection prevention. Future development could include topical and dermatological formulations targeting severe wounds, skin infections, diabetic ulcers, and trauma-related conditions, creating a potentially broader platform opportunity. The commercial opportunity surrounding antimicrobial and infection prevention technologies remains significant. The global surgical site infection market was estimated at approximately $8.37 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to around $17.95 billion by 2034. Within the United States alone, AMR Bio estimates that peak sales opportunities could exceed $1 billion annually across breast, cardiac, and orthopedic surgery patient populations. #proactiveinvestors #emvcapitalplc #aim #emvc #AMRBio #Biotech #Antimicrobial #HealthcareInnovation #ClinicalTrials #DrugDevelopment #SurgicalCare #MedicalResearch #InfectionPrevention

EMV Capital (AIM:EMVC) CEO Dr Ilian Iliev talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's acquisition of assets from liquidated Destiny Pharma and how the move aligns with its broader investment strategy. Iliev explained that EMV Capital applied its 'Venture Build Program' to identify, acquire, and rebuild value in the XF-73 drug asset, which had shown promise in phase 2 clinical trials but had stalled before entering phase three. He said, "We are able to look at opportunities such as the former Destiny Pharma and look at how we can identify, acquire and rebuild value in incredibly valuable assets." The structure of the deal includes both upfront payments and deferred milestone-based components, aligning long-term incentives with outcomes such as regulatory progress and licensing opportunities. EMV Capital is now preparing to restart the phase 3 trial for XF-73, focusing on capital efficiency and low cash burn strategies. Iliev also highlighted the global potential of XF-73 in tackling antimicrobial resistance and hospital-acquired infections, noting that the US market alone includes over two million patients who could benefit. He confirmed that commercialisation plans will prioritise the US while also targeting emerging markets through partnerships and joint ventures. The company's capital-efficient model, he emphasised, enables scaling of high-impact opportunities without excessive dilution to shareholders. For more updates, visit Proactive's YouTube channel. Without a doubt, the introduction of stablecoins has vastly increased overall crypto liquidity, adoption and real-world use cases as they offered a safe haven against the industry's volatility, especially during bearmarkets. However, despite being extremely efficient, the main stablecoin actors (i.e. Circle & Tether) are centralised entities. Many attempts have been made to create a reliable decentralised stablecoin, but regulations and the resounding collapse of Terra's UST have only pushed towards more established, yet centralised, variants.f(x) is a new generation CDP (collateralised debt position) protocol that offers on-chain perpetual trading for BTC & ETH with near-0 funding rates and a novel liquidation mechanism which protects users against hard liquidations. The leverage component is powered by emitting fxUSD, the protocol's decentralised stablecoin, which boasts robust peg-keeping mechanisms, the main one being fxSAVE's stability pool. Funding to accelerate the low-carbon switch

While car production is slow, factory activity is building strongly to decarbonise automotive as carmakers target 2030 for going all-electric. Subcontractors could be eligible for the new DRIVE35 government programme, which could offer some companies grant funding to help them lighten and decarbonise their products, says Will Stirling. Based on cold numbers, little has changed in the automotive sector since MTD's last report in March. In 2024, UK vehicle production was at its lowest level since 1954, excluding the disruption from Covid. And in the first half of this year, carmakers posted another 12% drop to just 417,200 vehicles manufactured, the lowest number since the early 1950s. The causes are well-known: weak global demand and the cost of the transition to low-carbon vehicles. But SMMT, the motor industry business group, is forecasting a bounce back in 2026 and there is evidence from several quarters that they are right. First, note that what we see on the roads is not an accurate reflection of changes happening in the factories of Britain. Only 4.75% of the 34 million cars on UK roads are fully electric, rising about one per cent a year, according to EV consultancy Zapmap. For new sales, by July 254,666 new fully electric cars had been sold, a 21.5% market share of all new cars registered this year and 57,745 more fully electric cars than were sold at the same point last year. The proportion of new electric cars has grown from 11.6% in 2021, to 19.6% in 2024 – so, decent if unspectacular progress, reflecting buyers' reticence with cost, and charge point/range anxiety. A new EV grant and falling prices could boost sales. Many buyers lacked incentives until now. Lower-cost EVs from Renault and Chinese brands, along with a £3,750 Electric Car Grant and EV Chargepoint Grant, might increase sales,” says Professor David Greenwood. However, the full grant applies only to cars with the lowest CO2 footprint; others receive a reduced £1,500 discount. Currently, no UK-made or sold cars qualify for the full grant, experts at BBC Top Gear say. Manufacturing activity is different to cars on the road, however. In the UK, about 80% of what we buy is imported and 80% of what we make is exported, and there are some very different drivers at play affecting manufacturing. Across the board, EV and low carbon vehicles and their component makers are ramping up fast. Jaguar Land Rover recently stopped making the XE, XF, and F-Type models as it shifts to an all-electric ‘reimagine' brand, reducing production at Jaguar sites temporarily. However, this should be offset by Nissan increasing output in Sunderland, including new models like Qashqai, EV Leaf, and Juke, despite closures elsewhere. Overall, manufacturing volumes are expected to rise later this year, with Nissan among several automakers investing in factory expansions. Factory and product investments pick up UK Export Finance has underwritten a £1bn export development guarantee to Ford UK, aimed at supporting Ford's global transition to EV production. The loan, provided by Citi and several lenders, helps fund aspects of its transformation to EV powertrains, and it follows a £380m investment in its Halewood manufacturing plant, to switch from producing transmissions to electric motors. Steel frames have been erected at the site of Agratas's new battery gigafactory in Somerset, marking the start of the next phase, the vertical build. 17,000 piles had been placed in the ground by the end of June. Agratas says that 100% of the steel used for the build is sourced from British suppliers. Astemo UK, a subsidiary of Japanese car parts maker Astemo, will build a new production line for inverters for next-generation EVs at its Bolton plant. The total investment, which includes support from government's Automotive Transformation Fund, is £100 million and it will secure an estimated 220 jobs. Production is scheduled to begin in April 2027. Rolls-Royce will be fully electric by 2030, starting with the Spectre coupé, followed by an electric SUV in 2027 and a new luxury saloon replacing the Phantom. They are building a £300m extension to the Goodwood factory to increase capacity and support electric vehicle manufacturing, investing in future demand. The government launched DRIVE35, a long-term £2.5bn programme supporting low-carbon vehicles. It includes £2bn in funding to 2030 and £500m for R&D to 2035, a ten-year commitment to UK automotive innovation. Here's the good bit: subcontract manufacturers that make car parts and are focused on lightweighting are ineligible for DRIVE35 funding. Three main funding priorities are: supporting innovation, accelerating start-up and enabling transformation – so if a company's work fits broadly into any of those categories, it has a chance of winning an award. How are SME metal forming companies responding on the ground? “Full electric transition is still way off, but a lot of our members have already started to adapt what they do to supply into the new generation of vehicles – many of them with significant success,” added Stephen Morley, President of the Confederation of British Metalforming. His organisation represents more than 200 companies involved in fasteners, forgings, pressings and precision metalwork, a vital part of the industry that makes products that go into many critical automotive applications. “There are many opportunities and UK firms are renowned for their resilience and ability to pivot to make the most of them. But Steve adds “I'm afraid there is a big ‘but' though.” “We are achieving all of this despite a tsunami of external factors out of our control, some of which are self-inflicted by a government that is supposed to be backing industry. The change in steel safeguarding quotas - introduced at the drop of a hat by Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds in July - was against Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) and has caused major disruption and financial hits to our sector. Our members have reacted furiously to this decision.” While the ambition is grand, regulations that hamper SME efficiency and the disconnect between government and business pervades and risks slowing any recovery as the electric shift beds in. Expect car production to rise in 2026 While the numbers and order books today are low, for many, there are legitimately brighter days ahead for the car industry. The UK has a beneficial tariff rate (relative to the EU) for exporting cars to the US of 10%, but this applies only to the first 100,000 vehicles imported into the US. Beyond 100,000, the higher tariff of 27.5% applies; however, it's still a relative boost for UK-made luxury brands. Prof Dave Greenwood adds, “The measures announced for the automotive sector in the industrial strategy (that include reduced energy costs, R&D grants, Investment Zones, etc) should all position well for longer-term future growth in manufacturing.”

In this episode of The Daily Windup, we talk about the challenges and solutions faced by the Hawaiian community during the pandemic. We talk about collaborations with the Governor of Hawaii to tackle the high unemployment rate caused by the travel industry's collapse. Through brainstorming sessions and identifying various problems, they developed a groundbreaking initiative—creating a university to train individuals in STEM fields and provide opportunities for technological advancements. One of the major hurdles they encountered was the lack of high-speed internet access on certain islands, such as Molokai. So a unique solution called "university in a box" was born. This innovative approach involved a specialized version of XF 5,000, an application capable of running offline on laptops. Students could access all the university's resources and training material without an internet connection and periodically synchronize their progress during visits to designated locations with high-speed internet. Join us in this insightful episode as we explore the transformative power of education and technology in rebuilding communities and fostering economic growth.

“Do I really replace lenses or just buy more of them? That's the major question,” says Kevin Rickert, B&H Photo's Senior Sales Trainer for cameras and lighting, in the heat of discussion for our Notable Lens Releases of 2022 and 2023 episode. Listen in as we assess the latest crop of optics from Canon, FUJIFILM, Hasselblad, Nikon, OM SYSTEM, Sigma, Sony, and Tamron. The full list makes for a lot of glass, so we've narrowed things down to a focused selection of primes and zooms spanning medium format, full frame, cropped sensor, and Micro Four Thirds formats. As in our annual Cameras of the Year show from December, we mix up the tech talk with practical anecdotes to help match lenses and customers based on user experience. Among the many threads of our chat, we commend the release of some new and different focal lengths—from Nikon's 26mm pancake to Sony's 20-70mm f/4 G-series zoom to Tamron's 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 telephoto. “Maybe the 26mm will be the new 28, which is great,” says Rickert. “We like choices, and a lot of brands are going this route with their lens offerings.” Guest: Kevin Rickert Episode Timeline 1:45: Canon RF 135mm f/1.8L IS USM lens and its unique cat-eye bokeh. 6:32: Four new Canon RF-S lenses for APS-C cameras, plus RF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM and RF 1200mm f/8L IS USM super-telephotos for wildlife and sports. 9:20: FUJIFILM XF 56mm f/1.2 R WR for portraits, XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR for wildlife and sports, XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR for everyday use, XF 30mm f/2.8 R LM WR, and FUJIFILM GF 20-35mm f/4 R WR lens for medium format. 12:42: Hasselblad XCD 38mm f/2.5 V, XCD 55mm f/2.5 V, and XCD 90mm f/2.5 V lenses. 18:49: Nikon Z 26mm f/2.8 pancake lens, Z 85mm f/1.2 S for portraits, 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, and Z 600mm f/4 TC VR SZ super telephotos for wildlife and sports. 25:06: Episode break 25:58: OM SYSTEM 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS Pro lens, and the benefit of IP53 weather sealing. 31:43: Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG DN Art for L-mount and E-mount systems, plus rerelease of lenses for X-mount and Z-mount systems. 36:06: Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 GM, FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G, FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II, FE 20-70mm f/4 G lenses. 43:58: Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD, 50-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III VC VXD lenses. In this episode, Chris and Tony discuss the new PXG GEN6 line of drivers, woods, hybrids, and irons. For drivers, we get two models–the O311 and XF. For now, there is no designated "low spin" model. Aluminum Vapor is gone from the crown, and PXG is pushing the moveable weights (3 in the standard model and 2 in the XF) toward the extreme perimeter of the body. Now, on to the fairways and hybrids. We get the same two model designations as the drivers. The XF model is larger than the standard model and includes rail geometry on the sole–hopefully minimizing "fat" shots of the turf. Last up are the P and XP irons. With a thinner face, we hope to see more ball speed produced with these two models. There's a lot on deck so kick back, watch, listen, or do both! This is The Digital Story Podcast #856, August 16, 2022. Today's theme is "Mastering Your Autofocus." I'm Derrick Story. Opening Monologue Like many other advanced features on our cameras, we often take autofocus for granted. These days, it works that well. But it's also quite customizable. And it's worth taking a few minutes to wander through the camera's AF menu to tailor its performance to our preferred way of shooting. We'll take a closer look on today's TDS Photography Podcast. AF 1 > AF by half-pressing(button symbol)> S-AF> No. Continuous Autofocus C-AF - Every camera is a bit different in its implementation, but generally speaking, once you indicate what you want in focus, the camera will continuously focus and refocus for you. I've been using this a lot for my event shooting with the OM-1, almost always in burst mode. It's a great way to capture moving action. A variation on this is Tracking Autofocus. This usually narrows the continuous autofocusing to a specific subject. Where it goes, so does the camera's AF sensor, literally "tracking" it across the frame or coming toward you. Canons and Nikons do this particularly well. Canon calls it Servo. Olympus lists it as C-AF+TR. Face and Eye Detection Autofocus - This works well when you only have one or two subjects. The camera identifies their face and/or eyes, and automatically focuses on them. This had improved a lot over the years with things like "right eye" or "left eye" AF. A neat trick is to set this up with back button focus to quickly enable it and have the shutter button use sensor focusing. Subject Detection - Now we're getting into some sweet computational photography. In this mode, the camera will look for the subjects that you've indicated, and focus on them. With my OM-1, the options are: Cars and Motorcycles, Airplanes and helicopters, trains and locomotives, birds, and mammals such as dogs and cats. This works remarkable well. Manual Focus - You take over the focusing chores and use the focusing ring on your lens. Another area that I've increased trust is the number of focusing points that I have active. I used to use a single point for all of my AF work. But now I've gone to a cross pattern that incorporates multiple AF points, and I position it in the frame using the jog stick. This protects me when there is slight subject movements right at the moment of exposure. Final Thoughts I'm trusting my camera's focusing decisions much more than I used to. I'm still a little hesitant with face detection in crowded conditions, but I do use Continuous, Cross Sensor, and Subject Detection regularly. And the results have been very good. Fujifilm confirms X Summit event in New York City on September 8 You can read the entire article on DP Review. Fujifilm has confirmed its next X Summit event will take place in New York City on September 8, 2022. Fujifilm hasn't shared any details about what all we can expect from the event, but we do know we'll be getting our first glimpse of Fujifilm's X-H2 camera. After announcing its new X-H2S mirrorless camera at its X Summit event back in May 2022, Fujifilm teased the X-Trans CMOS 5HR, a 40MP CMOS sensor it said would be used inside the company's forthcoming X-H2 camera system. Fujifilm didn't further elaborate on what else we could expect from the sensor and the X-H2 it will be inside, but the tagline for the X-Trans CMOS 5HR is '40MP, beyond the format boundaries.' Compared to the 'stacked layer, ultra fast motion capture' tagline used for the X-Trans CMOST 5HS sensor used inside the X-H2S, it's clear the 5HR - and the X-H2 as a whole - will likely focus on resolution and image quality above all else. It's unclear if any further announcements will be made beyond Fujifilm's new X-Trans CMOS 5HR sensor and X-H2 camera, but considering Fujifilm's current lens roadmap shows its new XF 56mm F1.2 and XF 30mm F2.8 Macro lens still due for 2022 launches, it's likely we'll see some additional details about these optics. Whatever the case is, we'll be here providing the latest updates as they're announced. In the meantime, mark your calendar for 6pm UTC for September 8, 2022. For anybody based in or near New York, Fujifilm is holding one of its 'Fujikina' events in the city on September 10th. This will include demonstrations and talks by a series of photographers and filmmakers, as well as a chance to get your hands on some of the company's latest gear. This is the first time Fujifilm has held such an event outside Japan. Tell a Friend I was thinking the other day about how people love to tell me about their favorite podcasts, which I appreciate! Then, I started thinking, we should be telling our friends about The Digital Story podcast. It's available on every service that's commonly used: Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Amazon, Spotify, and on and on. If each or our regular listeners told just one friend about this podcast and encouraged them to listen, those should be substantial numbers. So let's try it! Tell a friend about the TDS Photography Podcast. Not Using Auto ISO? You're Missing Out You can read the entire article on FStoppers. Auto ISO is one of those features that I ignored for a long time, considering it not much more than a gimmick. It wasn't until recently that I decided to try auto ISO, and I quickly realized that I was missing out on a valuable and practical feature. As the name suggests, in auto ISO mode, the camera will pick the correct ISO value for the scene being metered. Initially, the idea of letting my camera pick the ISO value seemed not only silly to me, but also like a genuinely bad idea, since I was afraid of winding up with grainy images if the camera chose a very high ISO. I was also firmly entrenched in a film shooter's mentality, since I grew up in an era when using ISO 800 film was pushing the boundaries of grain and typically only used as a last resort. Obviously, the world changed a long time ago, but as many of us know, old habits die hard, especially for us photographers! The beauty of using auto ISO is in the customization possible. The camera doesn't simply pick any appropriate ISO for your exposure, but gives you a number of other options to ensure you don't wind up with extremely grainy or blurry photos. In this article and video, I explain how these features work using a Canon EOS camera, but the basics will work with any camera that has auto ISO, although the customization levels will vary by brand. Once you've set your camera to auto ISO, you can tell the camera the lowest and highest ISO it is allowed to use using the "Auto Range" menu. At first, I thought of the auto range as a high-ISO cap, leaving the low ISO at 100 and setting the high cap at around 3200, which I felt was the most grain I would want to see in my images. I quickly realized that this was not the best way to use the feature and now fine-tune it a bit more based on the specific shooting conditions and not just on acceptable grain levels. By far, the most common way I use auto ISO is when shooting in aperture priority. In this mode, the camera picks the shutter speed and ISO, and I just dial in the aperture that I want. As a portrait photographer, selecting a wide aperture is almost always my main concern, and with two small children, I find this to be one of my favorite ways to shoot. I love not having to worry about the camera picking a shutter speed that is too slow for fast-moving kids or an ISO setting that's so high my images are too grainy. By dialing in my auto ISO settings, I am able to retain creative control in situations where I don't have a ton of time to fiddle with settings, in other words, any situation where kids are involved! I have found myself using Aauto ISO with aperture priority more and more when I leave my studio and work in natural light, whether it's taking some snaps of the kids or a concert in a dimly lit venue. Nice kit with logical sub assemblies. Geoff: plugging away on painting and weathering the Trumpeter 1/32 Corsair, but ran out of XF 17 Sea Blue (it's a BIG kit!) so I started the Moosearoo Cup kit - Arma Hobbies 1/72 P51B/C Mustang, and what a beauty! I have no illusions about being able to exceed the skills of the other podcasters, so my goal is to not embarrass our team! Most importantly - my drone finally blew out of the tree in a recent storm but less positively, it is completely dead.Terry: A little lining work on the Garmilon fleet and did get the wings attached to the Turbo Cavalier Mustang. That took some work, and some epoxy putty to make sure the joints will be strong.  Anthony: I've been fluttering between several of my stalled out/shelf queen/deep guilt projects - 1/144 Char's Zaku ll (soon-to-be-done), Yokoyama Hex Bug build with Campus Friends, VF-4 (decals half done), Don VanDuzen's 1/35 Challenger I tribute build (primed), 1/72 Cat's Eye Canopies (vac-formed), 1/48 Gabriel (Merdc painting), Lot's of progress!
