At first glance, there wasn't much to the mild and unassuming Jerry Brudos; however, when investigators looked into his background, they discovered several arrests for theft, prowling, and sexual assault. And the more they learned about Brudos' life, the more certain they became that he was the man they were looking for.Ultimately, Jerry Brudos was convicted of the murders of Jan Whitney, Karen Sprinker, and Linda Salee and given three life sentences. His capture and incarceration were a big relief to the women of Oregon, but his cooperation with law enforcement and the FBI would prove invaluable as the latter established what would eventually become the Behavioral Analysis Unit.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1969. Over the course of 1968 and well into 1969, several young women in Salem, Oregon went missing and would later turn up dead—all murdered and showing signs of having been tortured. Many of the cases bore certain similarities, but it wasn't until investigators questioned the friends of one of the victims, Karen Sprinker, that they came to identify a suspect and eventually arrested thirty-year-old Jerome “Jerry” Brudos. At first glance, there wasn't much to the mild and unassuming Jerry Brudos; however, when investigators looked into his background, they discovered several arrests for theft, prowling, and sexual assault. And the more they learned about Brudos' life, the more certain they became that he was the man they were looking for.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1969. On October 19, 1931, two trunks arrived on the platform of the Los Angeles Central Station, leaking blood. It was no mystery who the trunks belonged to: Winnie Ruth Judd had already been to the depot to collect her luggage. However, when pressured to open them on site, she quickly found an excuse to leave and did not return. It's not long before the police realize Winnie Ruth Judd's two best friends, Anne LeRoi and Hedvig “Sammy” Samuelson have been murdered. What happened to leave two women dead and another on the run? Morning Show 11 - 09 - 23 Hour 3 Rabbi Joshua Lief, David Dewitt Ohio Capital Journal by The Watchdog
Carolyn Harding with David DeWitt, editor-in-chief of the Ohio Capital Journal about Ohio Issue 1 - the Single Issue on the August 8, special election Ohio ballot. Ohio Capital Journal Editor-in-Chief and Columnist David DeWitt has been covering government, politics, and policy in Ohio since 2007, including education, health care, crime and courts, poverty, state and local government, business, labor, energy, environment, and social issues. He has worked for the National Journal, The New York Observer, The Athens NEWS, and Plunderbund.com. He holds a bachelor's degree from Ohio University's E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and is a board member of the E.W. Scripps Society of Alumni and Friends. The Ohio Capital Journal covers the Ohio Statehouse, Issues, Politicians, Wins/Losses and Votes since I started reading your daily newsletter. And in my opinion, your articles, editorials and opinion pieces have been pointedly on the side of the People of Ohio. As a professional journalist and news organization, you must have credible sources and facts to back up your assertions, statements, opinions in your articles. Your July 6 commentary entitled, “The historical malfeasance of equating the Ohio Constitution with the U.S. Constitution to attack it - Issue 1 assault on majority rule is a grotesque overthrow of ideals behind America's constitutional republic”, your June 29 commentary, “Ohio government is already captured by radical special interests. State Issue 1 would make it worse” , and your June 8 commentary “Change to 88 counties under State Issue 1 would effectively kill Ohio grassroots amendment proposals”- leads one to surmise you have strong opinions in opposition to Issue 1. So let's look at some of these issues and breakdown for our listeners & viewers- Ohio Issue #1- on the statewide ballot now through August 8, 2023. ohiocapitaljournal.com https://twitter.com/DC_DeWitt GrassRoot Ohio - Conversations with everyday people working on important issues, here in Columbus and all around Ohio. The Capital-Journal's Jason Alatidd is back from his honeymoon with a new last name. His colleagues Andrew Bahl of the CJ and John Hanna of the Associated Press immediately haul him into the podcast studio to talk about Medicaid. It's been a busy week for the state's KanCare program, with the process heating up to select new third-party vendors to manage the health care benefits. The trio also discuss the unwinding process, where Kansans are losing health care as pandemic-era flexibilities end. Like what you hear? Follow us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Play.
