When working to overcome an anxiety disorder, the biggest challenge many in our community can identify is flying. For chronically anxious people, the idea of getting on a plane, being trapped for hours, and being terrified or out of control for that long seems like something they will never be able to.Even for people that are well on the way to recovery, flying can still feel like the "ultimate test" of recovery. The fear that they will crumble and be in a totally uncontrollable, inconsolable state while in the air can be powerful. It leads some to avoid travel completely. This week Drew and Josh had a chat with Dr. David Carbonell about the intersection of anxiety disorders and flying. Dave is well known in the anxiety disorder community and brings us not only a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area, but also a healthy dose of understanding and much needed humor. We're covering all the usual issues:anticipatory anxietystruggling to decide if you should get on the plane or notthe worry over losing control or being in a full panic for hours while at 35,000 feetstorming the cockpittrying to get out of the aircraft while its in the aircausing a scene and/or needing to be restrained in some wayexperiencing a psychotic breakpanic that leads to a medical emergencyIf you're struggling with disordered anxiety and terrified at the thought of flying not because you fear a crash but because you fear your own thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations, tune in.

We're simple people here at Whiskey With Witcher. We love geeky stuff and things that are high in alcohol, so it was only a matter of time until we spoke to a fan who combines both. This week, we say hello to Adam Carbonell, one of the authors of Supernatural: Join the Hunt, the official cocktail book of the Supernatural TV series. A longtime brewer and mixologist, Adam crafted dozens of original cocktails inspired by the show over a ridiculously short amount of time. How did he do it? That's what we attempt to find out as we discuss Adam's surprising relationship to Supernatural, how he managed to create original recipes based on sometimes limited information and which of the book's many drinks he's most proud of. Plus, he teases some other fandoms he'd enjoy creating drinks for (The Witcher, maybe?), shares a few publishing war stories and answers some demonically devious drunken questions! You can find Supernatural: Join the Hunt – The Official Cocktail Book at bookstores and online retailers. Keep up with Adam Carbonell on Instagram at @youlookitalian.

On the thirty- third episode of ATFT, my friends philosopher pirate Daniel Carbonell- Sifontes and filmmaker/ video editor Max McBride join me on the third edition of the “fan- favorite” ATFT segment, #FilmTwitter Trends! Later in the episode, ATFT regular writer/ director Samy El- Kamel joins the conversation as a surprise guest! This episode is explicit with some sporadic spoilers. Towards the end of last year, there was this trend going around #FilmTwitter (with the platform now called X) where someone would post a decade and list their favorite film each year of that decade. Nearly every decade became a trend at this time and it became a fun thing to think about and then answer. I told Daniel about this trend which led to us three recording the 90s version back in March. Listen to Episode 17 to hear our 90s favorites! We enjoyed recording it so much that we decided to take on the next decade: the 2000s. It is the decade in which we grew up in so there are some nostalgic, core favorites from childhood along with more serious films we discovered when we got older. That being said, we have many similar favorites but also a lot of different picks. Both Daniel and Max have been guests on ATFT several times each but this is both of their second times on the “wide release” of this podcast! This episode was originally around 2 hours and 20 minutes so this conversation was definitely trimmed down. Daniel is currently in grad school in Denver and has long been an excellent photographer. Max is currently developing a short film and has a YouTube channel where he posts short films and documentaries as well as videos focused on his interests such as Dungeons and Dragons. He is expected to release an important video soon so be sure to subscribe to his channel by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/@maxleevideo/featured. Also be sure to follow Daniel's photography Instagram @allmynegativesarehere. This episode was recorded on May 13, 2024. In this episode, Daniel, Max, and I go through our list of 2000s film favorites and discuss them briefly as well as talking about other 2000s films. Daniel and Max especially more often had similar 2000s favorites, connecting over big franchises like Spy Kids and Star Trek. One franchise we all continuously revel in discussing: Harry Potter. A few of the significant, widely well- recieved films discussed were The Pianist, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and There Will Be Blood. Some short tangents include whether we prefer watching films alone or with others, the optimal movie length (in which I roll my eyes), and celebrity crushes. All this and more on the latest episode of All the Film Things! Background music created and used with permission by the Copyright Free Music - Background Music for Videos channel on YouTube.
At first glance, there wasn't much to the mild and unassuming Jerry Brudos; however, when investigators looked into his background, they discovered several arrests for theft, prowling, and sexual assault. And the more they learned about Brudos' life, the more certain they became that he was the man they were looking for.Ultimately, Jerry Brudos was convicted of the murders of Jan Whitney, Karen Sprinker, and Linda Salee and given three life sentences. His capture and incarceration were a big relief to the women of Oregon, but his cooperation with law enforcement and the FBI would prove invaluable as the latter established what would eventually become the Behavioral Analysis Unit.ReferencesAssociated Press. 1969. Over the course of 1968 and well into 1969, several young women in Salem, Oregon went missing and would later turn up dead—all murdered and showing signs of having been tortured. Many of the cases bore certain similarities, but it wasn't until investigators questioned the friends of one of the victims, Karen Sprinker, that they came to identify a suspect and eventually arrested thirty-year-old Jerome “Jerry” Brudos. At first glance, there wasn't much to the mild and unassuming Jerry Brudos; however, when investigators looked into his background, they discovered several arrests for theft, prowling, and sexual assault. And the more they learned about Brudos' life, the more certain they became that he was the man they were looking for.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1969. The apparel industry - be it high fashion or everyday wear - is a crowded and noisy market to crack. Just think about the sheer number of athletic shoes or jeans available at both ends of the price spectrum! So conventional wisdom is: to stand out, branding is really important. But for Christina Carbonell and Galyn Bernard, the co-founders of the children's clothing line Primary, branding was the last thing they wanted on their designs. The two women bucked other industry conventions, too: they only sell basic building-block pieces, using bright colors, in styles that hardly change year after year. No glitter. No cartoons. No pithy sayings. And no gender differentiation: the clothes are categorized as either babies or kids. Despite early struggles, eight years after launching in 2015, Primary is now a profitable company with annual sales over $50 million. This episode was produced by Casey Herman, with music by Ramtin ArabloueiEdited by Andrea Bruce, with research help from Chris Maccini. You can follow HIBT on Twitter & Instagram, and email us at hibt@id.wondery.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
