The Tea Time Crimes podcast has quickly become my new favorite true crime podcast. Hosted by Meagan and Alana, this show manages to strike the perfect balance between entertainment and informative storytelling. What sets this podcast apart from others in the genre is its unique mix of modern and historical crimes, which keeps each episode fresh and engaging. The chemistry between the hosts is palpable, as they complement each other seamlessly and consistently deliver a captivating listening experience.

One of the best aspects of The Tea Time Crimes podcast is the way it tackles each crime story with care and sensitivity. The focus on women in these stories is commendable, as it sheds light on often overlooked or underrepresented victims. It's refreshing to see a true crime podcast that doesn't sensationalize or exploit the crimes, but rather seeks to bring awareness and justice to those affected.

In addition to their respectful approach towards the subject matter, Meagan and Alana add a lighthearted touch to each episode with their tea conversations. These moments provide a much-needed break from the intensity of the crimes being discussed, offering some levity without detracting from the seriousness of the cases. It's evident that they have thoughtfully curated the content to provide not only an educational experience but also an enjoyable one.

While there are countless positive elements to The Tea Time Crimes podcast, it's important to note that personal preferences may vary. Some listeners may prefer a more somber or serious tone when it comes to true crime podcasts, which might make this show less appealing to them. However, for those who appreciate a mix of informative storytelling, humor, and female-focused narratives, this podcast is an absolute gem.

In conclusion, The Tea Time Crimes podcast stands out among its true crime counterparts due to its excellent hosting duo, engaging blend of modern and historical crimes, careful handling of sensitive subjects with a focus on women's stories, and well-placed moments of levity. Meagan and Alana have created a podcast that caters to both true crime enthusiasts and newcomers to the genre. I eagerly anticipate each new episode, as this podcast has quickly become a favorite of mine. I wholeheartedly recommend The Tea Time Crimes podcast to anyone in search of an engaging, informative, and entertaining dive into the world of true crime.

We at Tea Time Crimes have a hunch on who did it, but we want to hear from you, too! Tea of the Day: Twining's Blackcurrant BreezeTheme Music by Brad FrankFor a full list of sources, go to https://tea-time-crimes.simplecast.com/episodes.Sources:Iowa Unsolved Murders: Historic Cases, ““None But a Frenzied Woman”: Murder of Anna Wiese 1893.” By Nancy Bowers, December 2010, https://iowaunsolvedmurders.com/the-murders/murder-of-anna-wiese-1893/“Atrocious Murder in Iowa.” Kansas City Journal, Mon, Aug 28, 1893, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/1023501547/“The Murder of Anna Wiese.” The Sioux City Journal, Tue, Aug 29, 1893, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/416343636/“Isenhart Proves An Alibi.” The Sioux City Journal, Wed, Aug 30, 1893, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/416343776/“Still in the Dark.” The Gazette, Thu, Aug 31, 1893, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/550898120/Audubon Republican, Thu, Oct 26, 1893, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/897356835/“An Iowa Murder Mystery.” The Indianapolis News, Thu, Nov 16, 1893, Page 5, https://www.newspapers.com/image/34515994/“Traced By Her Hair.” Chicago Tribune, Fri, Nov 10, 1893 Page 11, https://www.newspapers.com/image/349828607/“The Gladbrook Mystery.” The Sioux City Journal, Sun, Sep 17, 1893, Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/416347967/“The Bennett-Weise Tragedy.” St. Louis Globe-Democrat, Tue, Nov 14, 1893, Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/571304010/“The Body of Anna Wiese Disturbed for the Third Time.” The Morning Democrat, Wed, Jan 17, 1894, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/299119378/Algona Courier, Fri, Feb 02, 1894 Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/2319179/“The Weise Murder.” The Courier, Tue, Mar 20, 1894 Page 4, https://www.newspapers.com/image/356711136/“Wiese Trial.” The Gazette (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Thu, Apr 05, 1894 Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/550909705/“Trying to Prove an Alibi.” The Morning Democrat, Sun, Apr 15, 1894, Page 4, https://www.newspapers.com/image/299134797/“A Stricken Juror.” St. Louis Globe-Democrat, Sun, Apr 22, 1894, Page 3, https://www.newspapers.com/image/571297084/“The Second Trial.” The Gazette, Thu, Jul 12, 1894, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/550922456/“Ready To Hear Testimony.” Quad-City Times, Sat, Sep 08, 1894, Page 4, https://www.newspapers.com/image/298970244/“Mrs. Bennett Talks.” The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, Wed, Sep 19, 1894, Page 3, https://www.newspapers.com/image/550811261/“Mrs. Bennett Goes Free.” The Sioux City Journal, Sun, Sep 23, 1894, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/416362325/“Clew to Anna Wiese's Slayer.” The Sioux City Journal, Thu, Oct 04, 1894, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/416365141/The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, Thu, Oct 04, 1894, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/550814070/

In the 1930s, Ohio resident Anna Marie Hahn took the gateway crime of insurance fraud down a dark path of murder. She could not help charming people, convincing them to give her money in their will (think tens of thousands– and this is Great Depression money!), and then making sure that will was in play. We also visit another Ohioan on death row, Dovie Dean, who shared Anna's method of murder but not her motivation. Hear the story of both women and decide for yourself what really happened. Tea of the Day: Howl's Moving Tea House Earl Grey Theme Music by Brad FrankFor a full list of sources, go to https://tea-time-crimes.simplecast.com/episodes.Sources:Anna Marie Hahn: Serial Killer, “The Beautiful Blonde Killer.” By True Crime: Bus Stop Reads, Bus Stop Reads Copyright 2015Huffpost, “Anna Marie Hahn: The First Woman to Die in Ohio's Electric Chair.” By The Lineup, Contributor, Mar 7, 2016 - Updated Dec 6, 2017, https://www.huffpost.com/entry/anna-marie-hahn-the-first_b_9400002“The Lost History of Hester Foster.” By Bucky Cutright, June 21st, 2021, Columbus Underground, https://columbusunderground.com/the-lost-history-of-hester-foster-bc1/“Dovie Dean Dies in Electric Chair.” (Ap) The Cincinnati Enquirer, Sat, Jan 16, 1954, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/100638905/“Three Held in Death of Farmer.” The Cincinnati Post, Thu, Sep 04, 1952, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/762752375/Wife Confesses Poisoning Mate.” The Morning News, Sat, Sep 13, 1952, Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/154516979/“Mrs. Dean in Hospital As 1st Trial Date Arrives.” The Cincinnati Post, Mon, Oct 20, 1952, Page 21, https://www.newspapers.com/image/762732137/“Accused Poison Slayer's Counsel Denies Guilt.” The Cincinnati Post, Tue, Dec 09, 1952, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/762757290/“State Demands Death Penalty As Poison Murder Trial Opens.” The Times Recorder, Wed, Dec 10, 1952 Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/294194274/“Report on Poison.” The Cincinnati Enquirer, Thu, Dec 11, 1952, Page 28, https://www.newspapers.com/image/102840399/“Jury Weighs Mrs. Dean's Fate.” By Arthur Keller, The Cincinnati Post, Sat, Dec 13, 1952, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/762761070/“Dovie Dean Dies In Electric Chair.” (AP) The Cincinnati Enquirer, Sat, Jan 16, 1954 Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/100638905/“Not Exactly a Blushing Bride, or Weeping Widow.” By Mara Bovsun, Daily News, Sun, Jun 11, 2023, Page 22, https://www.newspapers.com/image/977791681/“Mrs. Hahn In Collapse, Dies in Chair.” By Ralph Donaldson, The Plain Dealer, Thu, Dec 08, 1938, Page 4, https://www.newspapers.com/image/1059664358/

Saturday, September 2nd, 1933, hundreds of people flocked to the station as five women (Ms. Eleanor Jarman, Mrs. Bessie Opas, Mrs. Vera Carl, Mrs. Louise Murphy and Miss Katherine Brockman) were ushered onto a train to be sent to Oakdale Reformatory where they'd carry out their sentences. We know about Eleanor's crimes, but what did the other four other women do to earn themselves a seat next to the supposedly “most dangerous woman alive?” Tea of the Day: Wild Maine Blueberry Green TeaTheme Music by Brad FrankFor a full list of sources, go to https://tea-time-crimes.simplecast.com/episodes.Sources:“Prophecies Are True In Chicago Mystery Murder.” (AP) The San Bernardino County Sun, Sun, Jul 17, 1932, Page 22, https://www.newspapers.com/image/49261328/“Grocer Slain in Store, Quiz Widow and Son.” Chicago Tribune, Sun, Jul 17, 1932, Page 5, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355134970/“Husband Slain After Seeress Foretells Fate.” Chicago Tribune, Mon, Jul 18, 1932,Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355135382/“Police Forego Seance with Seeress of Death.” (AP) Alton Evening Telegraph, Tue, Jul 19, 1932, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/16343529/“Seeress Finds Cash in Death Picture Cards.” (U.P.)  Daily News, Wed, Jul 20, 1932 ·Page 355 (3), https://www.newspapers.com/image/415074302/“Cards Forecast Woman's Freedom.” (UP) Martinsville, IN, The Reporter-Times, Mon, Aug 01, 1932, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/551592762/“Grand Jury Clears Widow, Brother of Murder Charges.” Chicago Tribune, Sat, Aug 06, 1932, Page 3, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355061142/“Solve Fortune Teller Murder: Accuse Widow.” “Shot when he tries to play a prank on friends.”Chicago Tribune, Mon, Feb 27, 1933, Page 1, https://www.newspapers.com/image/354928197/“New Witness Disputes Alibi in Carl Slaying.” Chicago Tribune, Fri, Jul 22, 1932, Page 8, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355136335/“Widow Denies Part in Fortune Teller Murder.” Chicago Tribune, Tue, Feb 28, 1933, Page 13, https://www.newspapers.com/image/354928716/“Slayer Tells of Killing In Insurance Plot.” Chicago Tribune, Wed, Jun 28, 1933, Page 16, https://www.newspapers.com/image/354985651/“State to Close Today In Carl Murder Trial.” Chicago Tribune, Thu, Jun 29, 1933, Page 6, https://www.newspapers.com/image/354985914/“Two Sentenced to Life Terms in Carl Murder.” Chicago Tribune, Sat, Jul 15, 1933, Page 6, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355101063/“Slayer Accuses Widow Carl as Murder Plotter.” Chicago Tribune, Sat, Jul 22, 1933, Page 3, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355162238/“Widow Swears Denial of Part in Carl Murder.” Chicago Tribune, Tue, Jul 25, 1933, Page 3, https://www.newspapers.com/image/355163655/“Woman Faints as Sentence Meted.” (AP) Lexington Herald-Leader, Wed, Jul 26, 1933, Page 7, https://www.newspapers.com/image/683308671/“Thou Shalt Not Kill Thy Husband!” By Elizabeth Walker, Detroit Free Press, Sun, Sep 17, 1933, Page 46, https://www.newspapers.com/image/97968323/“Blonde Tiger Girl and 4 Other Women are Sent to Prison.” (AP) The Gazette, Sun, Sep 03, 1933, Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/548016620/“In Search of the Blonde Tigress: The Untold Story of Eleanor Jarman,” by Silvia Pettem, Published by Lyons Press 2023.“Parole Board to Give Killers Hearing Today.” Chicago Tribune, Tue, Oct 09, 1951, Page 7, https://www.newspapers.com/image/370193743/Chicago Tribune, Tue, Mar 18, 1969, Page 28, https://www.newspapers.com/image/376637673/“Blonde Tiger Girl and 4 Other Women Are Sent to Prison.” (Chicago AP) and “Woman Scientist's Discovery Fixes Virus in Kidneys As Cause Of Sleeping Disease.” (St. Louis UP) The Gazette, Sun, Sep 03, 1933, Page 2, https://www.newspapers.com/image/548016620/Vera Carl in the 1940 United States Federal Census, United States of America, Bureau of the Census. Eleanor Jarman was nicknamed ‘The Blonde Tigress' after a robbery-gone-wrong in 1933. She had a string of successful robberies, until the very last one devolved into murder. The papers paint her as vicious and deadly, but is that a fair portrayal of a woman trying to survive as a single mother during the Great Depression? It's Freaky Friday (Twisted Tuesday??) and Alana is taking over the mic. Buckle in for a wild ride through 1850s New Orleans where we meet all kinds of characters, most especially Mary Jane “Bricktop” Jackson. Mary was a sex worker who didn't put up with any nonsense or disrespect. Those that dared found themselves on the wrong side of her blade. Despite her murderous actions, we're willing to bet you might kinda like the gal, or at least, enjoy Alana's love for her. Tea of the Day: Lady GrayTheme Music by Brad FrankSources:Asbury, Herbert. In this three-part series, we will be exploring this area and the devastating stories found alongside it. If you have any information for any of these cases, please call the E-PANA Tip Line at 1.877.543.4822.Content Warning: Sexual assault Tea of the Day: Black Pu Erh Theme Music by Brad FrankSources:Directed by Matthew Smiley, “Highway Of Tears: The Unsolved Serial Murders Of Aboriginal Women.” Produced by Carly Pope, Narrated by Nathan Fillion, Released March 6th, 2015  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3wWjcIc_1MDirected by Tim Wolochatiuk, “We Were Children.” Produced by Kyle Irving, Starring Rene Batson, Taya Ayotte Bourns, Alice Dano, Release by Eagle Vision Inc. 2013. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07FQ3GZKX/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_rMcDiarmid, Jessica, “Highway of Tears: A True Story of Racism, Indifference, and the Pursuit of Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.” Narrated By Emily Nixon, Simon and Schuster, November 12th, 2019.“The Highway of Tears: The Road Where Women Disappear” by Bipin Dimri October 4, 2022 https://www.historicmysteries.com/highway-of-tears/“Highway of Tears,” 48 Hours, Season 25, Episode 7 with Peter Van Sant, November 17th, 2012.Native Womens Wilderness -
