When 33-year-old Sandra Bird, a devoted mother and the wife of popular Faith Lutheran Church pastor Tom Bird, was found dead in the Cottonwood River near Emporia, Kansas, the town mourned what appears to be a tragic car accident. But Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper John Rule felt like something was off. From a complete lack of skid marks to mysterious bloodstains found where they shouldn't have been, the physical evidence just didn't add up.Months later, the community was rocked again when Martin Anderson, the husband of the church's secretary, Lorna Anderson, was gunned down on a dark highway in an apparent robbery gone wrong. What followed was one of the most tangled criminal cases in Kansas history: competing trials, a jailhouse reversal, a made-for-TV movie, and a legal fight that stretched across nearly a decade.Today's snack: Biscoff Bala BaianaListen to part 2 on PatreonSources:Breneman, Allie. In a system like that, downtime is not an option. Today, we look at how a company successfully reduced documentation time, increasing adoption in one part of this massive system. We sat down with Nilanjan Sengupta from Thoughtworks to learn which methods proved successful. He began by stating the focus must not be on bits and bytes, but on mission outcomes. For example, for years, clinicians spent 10–20 minutes per patient on documentation, often taking 2 or more hours to leave their shift. Sengupta highlights a successful pilot of AI ambient scribe technology at the VA to address this issue. It was so successful that it achieved an 86% adoption rate among primary care providers. During the interview, Sengupta outlined topics such as the importance of data governance, trust infrastructure, and a responsible AI strategy. He emphasized the need for a well-governed data discovery process and a cultural shift towards treating data as a mission-critical product.

In this episode, journalist and author Puja Mehra speaks with Rajeswari Sengupta, Economist and Associate Professor at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), about the recent volatility in the rupee and the Reserve Bank of India's response to it. They discuss how global shocks—from the West Asia conflict to sustained capital outflows—have exposed deeper structural vulnerabilities in India's external sector.Sengupta explains how the rupee's weakness is not just cyclical but rooted in fundamentals, including rising import dependence, especially on energy, and weakening foreign capital inflows. Against this backdrop, they examine the RBI's increasingly aggressive intervention to stabilise the currency. But are these measures addressing volatility, or attempting to influence the level of the exchange rate itself? What does this mean for the rupee's role as a market-driven price, and for India's ambitions of greater financial openness?Tune in for insights into the tensions between currency management and market forces, and what it means for the future of India's exchange rate framework.CHAPTERS(00:00) Pressures on the Rupee(01:09) West Asia War Impact(02:30) Energy Import Dependencies(04:32) Sustained Capital Outflows(06:14) Financing Current Account Deficit(08:03) RBI's Intervention Methods(10:14) Offshore Arbitrage and Banks(11:58) Unprecedented Regulatory Measures(13:16) Impact on Indian Banks(15:42) Risks of Policy Flip-Flops(16:59) Cost of Hedging Exposure(21:20) Value of Market Speculation(26:38) Rupee as Shock Absorber(31:07) Recommendations for Future PolicyFor more of our coverage check out thecore.inSubscribe to our NewsletterFollow us on:Twitter |Instagram |Facebook |Linkedin |Youtube

To the outside world, Ted Ammon had built the kind of life most people only dream about — a self-made Wall Street titan worth nearly $100 million, a Hamptons beach mansion, and twin children he adored. But behind the facade, his marriage to the brilliant, volatile Generosa had curdled into something dangerous. A bitter divorce, a secret affair, and a brash Long Island electrician with a criminal record had pushed an already unstable situation to the breaking point. When Ted's business partner flew out to the East Hampton beach house one October morning, what he found inside would haunt him forever. Thirty or more blows to the head. Stun gun burns. And not a single witness in sight. No murder weapon. No DNA. No fingerprints. When Ellora Sengupta joined EverCommerce as CIO, she inherited the IT of over 50 acquisitions — multiple operating models, fragmented tech stacks, and business units that had zero reason to trust a central IT function.  Most CIOs would have reached for a consolidation roadmap. Ellora reached for something better: earning the right to be plugged into, instead of just mandating it. In this episode, Ellora tells Yousuf how she's drawn the line between what actually needs to be standardized and what should be left alone so acquired businesses keep their edge.  Key Moments: [00:01:00] What Is EverCommerce — and What Makes 50+ Acquisitions So Unusual [00:03:00] The CIO's Real Job: Standardize Some Things, Protect Others [00:04:30] What Multi-Acquisition IT Looks Like vs. Organic Growth [00:05:00] How Ellora Built Trust with Business Units That Didn't Ask for IT [00:07:30] High-Growth SaaS DNA: Customer Obsession, Speed with Discipline, and AI [00:09:30] Why AI Doesn't Get Its Own Budget at EverCommerce [00:11:00] The Personal Story: Starting Over as an Immigrant with Zero Network [00:15:30] How Her Leadership Philosophy Evolved — and the Family Myth She Unlearned [00:17:30] Running the SVASE CIO Educational Fund and Giving Back [00:21:00] The Skills That Actually Matter for Future IT Leaders [00:22:00] Lightning Round About Ellora: Ellora Sengupta is the CIO of EverCommerce, where she oversees enterprise applications, data and analytics, security, corporate IT, infrastructure, and enterprise PMO across a portfolio built through 50+ acquisitions. She brings a "General Manager" mindset to IT leadership, having scaled technology functions at high-growth pre-IPO companies and $50B+ enterprises alike — including stints at Procore, Samsara, Cisco, and Workday. Ellora was named Bay Area CIO of the Year in the 2022 ORBIE Awards (Large Corporate category). She currently serves as president of the SVASE CIO Educational Fund, raising scholarships and providing mentorship for underprivileged students pursuing careers in technology. Guest Highlights: "My success is not how fast can I standardize or make things consistent. My success is — are those vertical businesses ready to plug into the shared services that my team is creating because it makes them better." "Your team is not your family. In a family, it's unconditional. But in a team you need everybody to perform. It doesn't help anyone if you are carrying along a non-performer — the rest of the team has to carry that slack." "I don't have a separate budget for AI. I have a budget and I need to make sure that my tools are AI enabled." - Visit ciopod.com for more episodes. This episode of Integrative Cancer Solutions Dr. Karlfeldt features Dr. Soma Sengupta, a neuro-oncologist with a background in Ayurvedic medicine, as she shares her journey into integrative oncology and the importance of a holistic approach to cancer care. Dr. Sengupta discusses how her family's tradition in Ayurvedic medicine and her own experiences in neurology inspired her to bridge traditional and integrative therapies, ultimately leading her to a fellowship at the Andrew Weil Integrative Medicine Center. Dr. Soma Sengupta emphasizes that addressing the whole patient—including nutrition, mindfulness, and exercise—can significantly improve treatment outcomes and quality of life. A central theme of the conversation is the integration of traditional and modern medical practices. Dr. Sengupta and the host explore the challenges and benefits of combining these approaches, highlighting the need for team-based, multidisciplinary care that involves patients, families, and survivorship programs. Dr. Sengupta shares personal anecdotes about her patients, illustrating how integrative care can foster hope, emotional resilience, and lasting connections with families even after treatment ends. The discussion delves into the foundational components of integrative care, with Dr. Sengupta outlining various dietary strategies such as the ketogenic, Mediterranean, and plant-based diets. She stresses the importance of personalizing these approaches to fit each patient's preferences and lifestyle, as well as the necessity for longer patient visits to address lifestyle and treatment comprehensively. The conversation also covers the careful use of supplements and the need to consider potential drug interactions during clinical trials and standard treatments. Herbal and botanical therapies, including Boswellia and turmeric, are examined for their roles in neuro-oncology, with Dr. Sengupta sharing her experiences in using these remedies to manage symptoms like brain edema and reduce steroid use. She also discusses the financial and insurance challenges patients may face when accessing these therapies. The episode highlights Dr. Sengupta's research interests, particularly the interaction between cancer cells and the nervous system, and the potential of fungal mycelium and new agents targeting GABA receptors in cancer treatment. In the final segments, Dr. Sengupta discusses the future of oncology, emphasizing the promise of personalized medicine, immunotherapy, and the microbiome in improving patient outcomes. She shares her enthusiasm for the potential of mushrooms and fungi, such as lion's mane and reishi, in enhancing immune function and reducing side effects of cancer treatment. The episode concludes with a call for continued collaboration and integration of traditional and modern medicine, underscoring the importance of a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to cancer care.Dr. Soma Sengupta shares her journey from traditional neuro-oncology to integrative medicine, inspired by her family's Ayurvedic background and patient needs. She emphasizes the importance of holistic care, including nutrition, mindfulness, and exercise, to improve cancer treatment outcomes. The discussion covers the integration of traditional and modern therapies, such as the ketogenic and Mediterranean diets, and the use of supplements and botanicals like Boswellia.Dr. Sengupta highlights her research on the interaction between cancer cells and the nervous system, and the potential of mushrooms and fungi in cancer care. The episode concludes with a focus on personalized medicine, the promise of immunotherapy, and the value of combining traditional wisdom with modern science for patient-centered oncology.Grab my book A Better Way to Treat Cancer: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Preventing and Most Effectively Treating Our Biggest Health Threat - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CM1KKD9X?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860 Unleashing 10X Power: A Revolutionary Approach to Conquering Cancerhttps://store.thekarlfeldtcenter.com/products/unleashing-10x-power-Price: $24.99-100% Off Discount Code: CANCERPODCAST1Healing Within: Unraveling the Emotional Roots of Cancerhttps://store.thekarlfeldtcenter.com/products/healing-within-Price: $24.99-100% Off Discount Code: CANCERPODCAST2----Integrative Cancer Solutions was created to instill hope and empowerment. Exhibiting erratic behavior suggestive of a mental health crisis, possibly undiagnosed bipolar disorder, Mitrice was released at 12:28 a.m. without her phone, wallet, or car, despite her mother's plea to hold her until morning. Last seen alive resting in a resident's backyard six hours later, her skeletal remains were found 11 months later in a remote canyon, with her clothing 700 feet away and no clear cause of death determined. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department faced criticism for releasing her, mishandling her remains, and obstructing the coroner's investigation, prompting lawsuits and allegations of foul play, though her death was ruled undetermined, not a homicide. Her case led to policy changes for missing persons and mental health evaluations, but her family continues to seek justice, believing she was murdered.   Branch of Hope for May 2025: The JED Foundation - Jedfoundation.org   Chapters: 00:00 Welcome to the Dark Oak 01:40 Mitrice Richardson 1:28:20 The Brand of Hope - JED Foundation     Sources: Suspicious death: Mitrice Richardson | Malibu, CA | Uncovered. 'Nobody has a handle on this thing called life. Life is a dance you learn to engage with on a day to day basis'. Shiv Sengupta is an author and teacher who I discovered over on Substack. He has a really fascinating perspective on life, spirituality, and the human experience. As a young man Shiv had a transformative experience he had that led him to question a lot of the common ideas around self-improvement and awakening. He shares his views on the role of chaos and calm in life, and why he believes embracing life as it is, rather than constantly striving to be better, is so important. We discuss: Shiv's unique perspective on the role of chaos and calm in life The limitations of self-improvement and the importance of self-acceptance Shiv's personal story of a transformative experience and its impact on his spiritual journey The relationship between meditation, suffering, and spiritual awakening Shiv's nuanced views on metaphysics and the nature of consciousness The definition of enlightenment as the ability to see with clarity in the present moment Insights on embracing the ups and downs of life without attachment to outcomes Shiv's substack: https://shivsengupta.substack.com/ My links: Book: https://www.simonmundie.com/book YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/YouTubeSimonMundie Website: simonmundie.com Substack Newsletter: https://simonmundie.substack.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/simonmundie/

Tearsheet's roots were in investment and wealth tech. As that world became more focused on plain vanilla robo-advisors about a decade ago, I expanded our focus to include banking, payments, and lending. That's because with ETFs and low-cost providers, it felt like most of the focus of innovation was coming from removing costs. Things have changed since then. On today's episode, we explore the changing world of wealth management with two industry leaders: Nader Souri, Head of Corporate Banking at BNY, and Caesar Sengupta, CEO of Arta Finance. You don't have to listen closely to really feel their connection and the relationship they've personally forged through working together. I first spoke with Ceasar a few years ago when he was VP and General Manager of Payments and Next Billion Users at Google. Our conversation reveals how these two organizations are leading how wealth management solutions are evolving for professionals. It also sheds light on the role of fintech partnerships in this transformation. Caesar Sengupta opens the discussion by explaining Arta Finance's mission. “We are a digital family office or a digital private bank for professionals, not the ultra-rich,” he says. The goal is to democratize wealth management and make sophisticated financial tools accessible to those who have worked hard in their careers. Nader Souri adds, “At BNY, we provide the platform upon which folks like Arta Finance can build their businesses.” He highlights the role of clearing and custody infrastructure. This helps in supporting innovative fintech solutions.
