Caroline Stafford is this episode's guest. Caroline and David Stafford are authors of the brand-new book Anymore for Anymore: The Ronnie Lane Story. This is the biography of British singer/songwriter Ronnie Lane. In the 60s he co-founded Small Faces, who recorded several hit singles including “Itchycoo Park”, “Lazy Sunday”, “All or Nothing”, and “Tin Soldier”. But before long, singer Steve Marriott left the band to form Humble Pie, and the band would morph into Faces with Rod Stewart on lead vocals. That lineup would record future classics including “Stay With Me”, “I Know I'm Losing You”, and “Ooh La La”. Anymore for Anymore charts the fortunes of Lane throughout that period, his later work with his band Slim Chance, and his unfortunate early death. Caroline is here to share her experience in writing the book and to talk about the career of the late great Ronnie Lane.Purchase a copy of Anymore for Anymore: The Ronnie Lane Story through Omnibus Press HEREWatch Omnibus Press's animated videos for the Anymore for Anymore book HERE Find out more about Caroline and David Stafford from Omnibus Press HEREListen to a playlist of the Ronnie Lane's music HERE Visit the Booked On Rock Website HERE Watch exclusive video segments from the Booked On Rock podcast HERE Follow The Booked On Rock with Eric Senich:FACEBOOKTWITTERINSTAGRAMTIKTOK Support Your Local Bookstore! Reports of massive employee turnover and dissatisfaction are everywhere––except at Stafford-Smith, Inc. Jason chats with David Stafford, third generation president and CEO of the Kalamazoo-based foodservice equipment distributor, about his company's remarkable retention rate. With 19 locations across 11 states and an overwhelmingly Millennial workforce, Stafford-Smith's culture of loyalty flourishes under David's open-door policy, an office-wide environment of mutual respect, and a few well-timed pranks. “It's been a very good ride so far. We make money; we are very profitable. We work hard. [ ] I don't ask anybody ever to do anything I'm not willing to do myself or have not done.” Although David's lead from the front style is a hallmark of successful privately-held distribution companies, it's his repeated acknowledgement of team contributions that make him a standout in the industry. Competitive by nature, David applies lessons learned from his college football days to business, preferring a team approach to execution and a coach's mindset to decision-making. “It takes a village, and so we all need to do this together,” he says, referring to the pandemic-related challenges of the last 18 months. “But again, we also have another edict: business is not a democracy. There comes a time where somebody has to be the head coach, general manager, and owner.” Access to the key decision maker lays the groundwork for job satisfaction and loyalty, regardless of an employee's generational cohort. While many businesses are frantically trying to rework company culture issues exposed by the pandemic, Stafford-Smith is benefiting from well-established practices. “You see a lot of people having a hard time hiring people. Everybody came back to work for us,” David says with pride. Even the five employees (out of over 200) who wanted to retain wfh status were replaced within a week. Stafford-Smith's enviable position as a top-tier employer is one of the reasons they're also exceptionally successful at acquisitions. For companies interested in pursuing an acquisition or greenfield startup, figuring out the perfect formula can seem daunting. David relies on data and his gut. “The formula is, really, I have to feel with these people what's going on. I gotta feel it's the right decision.” Again, he goes back to the importance of everyone involved, not only the bottom line. “You gotta make sure you handle it right, that you treat the people right,” he says, ever mindful that the new employees will assimilate into Stafford-Smith's well-established ecosystem. Stafford-Smith's gameplan for a post-COVID environment begins with the folks on the floor and ends on David's doorstep––and his office is always open. For the last two years, David has been helping run the company but unfortunately has faced his most difficult year yet, due to the devastation caused by this pandemic and the ensuing restrictions by the UK government. London is the heartbeat of Britain’s tourism industry, and Big Bus Tours usually operate around 50 buses during a summer weekend. During the peak of the season in 2020, however, they had one bus operating and only a handful of passengers. David has constantly raised concerns about the lack of people on the streets of London during this time, as the city usually welcomes 20 million tourists each year. The reason behind this issue is that visitors have been put off coming to the UK because it has been hit harder by the pandemic than any other European country. This concern has led to David and 44 other bosses in the tourism industry to create an SOS London campaign. Launched at the London Eye, this is a plea for the government to Save Tourism, Organise Campaigns and Support the industry. Since July, David has been urging the government to take immediate action and to halt the collapse of the tourism industry in the capital.

Native South African, David Stafford's parents originate from the UK. Nothing much on early life, except I did kind of beat a Mild version of Thyroid Cancer as a teenager. My career path started when I studied Finance in Uni to get into the hedgefund world, but in my Third year - I had a change of heart. I job-shadowed a Portfolio Manager for big local hedge fund and all I saw was that this career would be the death of me. So, midway in my third year, I did a lot of self-development, exploring options across the board. Rich Dad Poor Dad made me realize I needed to become a Business Owner. And from there I met my first mentor: Ryan Sletcher. He brought me into the Internet Marketing World and brought out my love for advertising. From there, after learning all about Info Product Marketing from him - I went my own way, freelanced and had projects working with awesome companies from all over the world. Education Brands, Local Celebs, Growing Tech Companies etc. Decided to focus down on the Therapy industry after I saw amazing results working with a local Reflexologist and as I speak, am now making the transition from the Agency business model, to the consulting business model. David will soon be launching Client Engine which is an Lead Generation Accelerator programme for Therapists...watch this space.
