Albertans voting in municipal elections had three provincial initiatives on the ballot. Key among those was a referendum on equalization. The Alberta government has been pushing for equalization reform for quite some time, but there are questions about whether the referendum does anything. National Post reporter Tyler Dawson joins Dave Breakenridge to discuss why the debate isn't a simple yes or no question, what a yes vote actually means, and why this vote is so important to Alberta Premier Jason Kenney. [00:30] The Biden Mantra: ‘Not a Joke' (17 minutes) This is a president who is concerned that Americans are not taking him seriously. Yesterday, while promoting his “Build Back Better” plan in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Joe Biden repeatedly told listeners that his radical, socialist agenda is “not a joke.” [17:45] Biden's Amtrak Yarn (10 minutes) During his infrastructure speech in Scranton, Joe Biden also told an elaborate story about a former Amtrak conductor named Angelo Negri. Biden vividly remembers a lively conversation with Negri following the million-miles-flown threshold Biden crossed when he was vice president during the Obama administration. The problem with the story is that the conversation took place after Negri had been dead for more than a year. [27:40] Majority of Americans Question Biden's Mental Fitness (9 minutes) A stunning 58 percent of Americans do not believe Joe Biden is mentally fit for his job as president. This has never happened in America's history. [38:20] Bible Study: ‘The Great Restoration' (15 minutes) When the Bible talks about the “restitution of all things,” it's projecting our minds beyond this present evil world to a time when God will restore what Satan's rebellion removed from this Earth—God's loving family government.

I ran into a friend recently whom I haven't seen in a while. And at first, I didn't recognize him. Some of that had to do with the time between meetings. But more of it had to do with context. The last time I saw him was in California in the Sierra Nevada foothills. This recent meeting was in a town called Goshen, Virginia. He and I were walking into buildings adjacent to one another and caught each other's eye. Then we did “that thing;” just staring at one another quizzically and awkwardly until he (his name is Mike) said “McRoberts!?” There were hugs and high fives and that “guy” hug with the clasped palms thing in the middle. I'm guessing you've had a similar moment: seeing someone or something you know well enough but in a context that threw off your expectations. Them? Here? No.. that can't be. They belong somewhere else,… right? Part of what has been exposed in my religious training is that this happens to me, in relationship to God, somewhat regularly. An “encounter” or a moment of clarity is cast into substantial doubt because, .. well. God doesn't go “here;” God goes to certain places at certain times (and sometimes in certain ways). This isn't to say that those places and spaces and times and ways are, in and of themselves, problematic; more so, they become problematic when I try to stuff the entirely of my expectant longing for God into them. They can't hold that. They break. What if the spaces and places we call “sacred” were less like consumer packaging and more like training grounds; always pointing beyond themselves and humbly aware of their transience. May it be so that I learn to see The Divine there (goodness, truth, beauty) so that I can recognize Divine love and movement everywhere else… not so that I would know where to go should I desire to find it. So, The 10 am -11 am hour on a Sunday The specific words of specific prayersThe specific chord progressions The specific genre of music or art are all fineBut/And/Also…They are small. So small. Alexander Schmemann, in his book “For The Life of the world” criticized what he called “the religion of this world,” suggesting that too much of it has called this one, small area of life “sacred” and, in doing so the way we've done it, rendered the MAJORITY of the rest of life and the experience of life “plain” or ‘other” or even “bad.” That's terrible religion. And if those of us at the helm of contemporary religious machinery are truly honest with ourselves, we have to admit that this is the case, at least in part (if not in large part) because we've made it this way. If I am a gatekeeper to your spiritual/religious experience or if something I've created is THE place and way you see The Divine, then you need me and you need what I make and I get to keep my job and my power. This takes me all the way back to the poetic, prophetic challenge issued by the writers of Genesis, who, in the third chapter, expose the core, human temptation to “be like God, knowing good and evil.” It is a temptation, in part, to set the parameters of reality and decide where things should go, including The Divine. But God is who, what, and how God is, wherever God is. Just like my friend Mike is Mike, wherever he is. And getting to know him how and where and when I did should mean that, when I discover him on the other side of the country, I recognize him.. as Mike. May it be so for you and I in relationship to each other and may it be so for you and I in relationship to the Divine and may it be so for us who continue to forge pathways for people to encounter God - that we would not be gatekeepers. We would set the stage for folks to come into an encounter with the Divine by which/in which they would learn to see God however God shows up, wherever God shows up.

Sam and Emma host Carl Lindskoog, assistant professor of history at Raritan Valley Community College, to discuss his recent book Detain and Punish: Haitian Refugees and the World's Largest Immigration Detention System, to discuss his recent book Detain and Punish: Haitian Refugees and the World's Largest Immigration Detention System, on how the US's treatment of Haitian refugees worked as the blueprint for their immigration detention system today. Professor Lindskoog starts back in the ‘50s, around two decades into a period of intensely discriminatory immigration policy, banning immigration from practically anywhere that isn't in western Europe, when the US decides to suspect their policy of immigrant detention, building up to the 1965 decision to do away with their national origin quotas in the midsts of the Civil Rights Movement. Next, however, he covers the racist backlash to both the movement as a whole and these immigration policies as, beginning in the ‘70s, the US saw an influx in Haitian migrants that worried representatives (unlike anti-communist Cuban migrants who bolstered the US image of Cuba), spilling over in the summer of 1980, as the US responds by reasserting immigrant detention, building up their private-prison complex as they start incarcerating more and more folks, both foreign and native-born. He, Sam, and Emma dive into the policy of the Reagan administration that worked to bolster this, including quarantining and expelling Haitian refugees with HIV/AIDS, followed by George H.W. Bush's opening of the Guantanamo detention center, originally just for Haitian refugees, before touching on the neoliberal responses under Clinton, as he reinstalled President Aristide following a military coup under the requirement of subscription to neoliberal policy, and Obama, as he upheld detentions – save for a short period following the 2010 Earthquake. They wrap up the interview with a discussion on the history of organizing and direct action by Haitian refugees in jails and detention centers, before touching on Biden's failure to make our current immigration system even more slightly humane. And in the Fun Half: Emma and Sam cover Jeff Fortenberry's disillusionment with the CIA now that they're investigating him, Jennifer from Seattle talks radicalization in personal relationships, Dan from CA talks cancel culture in the MR chat, and Peter Doocy doesn't quite realize that COVID is an issue of public safety. Sam and Emma host Kate Crawford, Research Professor at the University of Southern California Annenberg, to discuss her recent book Atlas of AI: Power, Politics, and the Planetary Costs of Artificial Intelligence, on our relationship with big tech, and the concept of the AI industry as a continuation of the extractive practices and power dynamics in the workplace that we have been building for centuries. They start off with a discussion on how Professor Crawford got into AI, and how her perspective on it has changed, from the view of the industry as one defined by algorithmic capacity and data infrastructure to an industry of extraction and exploitation, jump-started by diving into the stages of production from lithium mines to Amazon fulfillment warehouses to labs. Getting into the abstraction and depoliticization of artificial intelligence, Professor Crawford explores how Big Tech has become perhaps the most concentrated industry since the railroads, hiding behind an ideology of technocratic utopianism that has built a fear of regulation, a consolidation of power, and a growing perspective that it is essential to our way of life. Next, she, Emma, and Sam dive into the relationship between AI and labor practices, looking at the hyper “efficiency” created by workplace algorithms (e.g. at Amazon warehouses) as a revolutionary progression of Frederick Taylor's factory ideology, and exploring how this disembodied management serves to hamper organizing, particularly with the effect of the bias to believe technology. They then move onto the importance of highlighting the overlap of the surveillance state and corporate surveillance, this creation of a multi-headed hydra, and why the American public only sees the state as a threat, before expanding on the surveillance apparatus are already working to reinforce power structures that have exceeded regulation, looking particularly at the Police state and counter-terrorism measures. They wrap up the interview by discussing the future of regulation in the industry and the impact anti-trust measures could have (and why that won't be enough). Sam and Emma read some Majority Reporter updates on the mass unionization efforts going on in the US, and discuss Manchin's posturing with Bernie (physically). And in the Fun Half: Nomiki Konst joins Sam and Emma as they cover the New York democratic machine getting blindsided by a democratic socialist woman of color taking on an established incumbent, inspiring Chuck Schumer to take a break from politics, Chris Leal for TX House District #114 gives some updates on his campaign, and the MR crew discusses the judgments of Meghan McCain in the workplace for simply acting the part she's paid for. Sam and Emma host Heath Brown, associate professor of public policy at the City University of New York (CUNY), John Jay College, and the CUNY Graduate Center, to discuss his recent book Homeschooling the Right: How Conservative Education Activism Erodes The State, on the rise of homeschooling policy in the US, how it relates to public education, and the impact it has had on national politics. They discuss the institutionalization of homeschooling beginning in the 1970s as a seed of the conservative movement we see today, stemming from 1974 West Virginia protests of new textbook policy incorporating the work of civil rights leaders like Malcolm X which brought out support from established conservative organizations like the John Birch Society and the Ku Klux Klan, and new ones like the Heritage Foundation, all looking to bolster the right to opt-out of the “indoctrination” of public schooling. After discussing the roles of key conservative activists, such as Alice Moore and RJ Rushdoony, and how the movement has bolstered the fundamentalist perspectives that we see in the push against Critical Race Theory we see today, Professor Brown dives into the differences we see between the homeschooling movement, which took off in the '80s bolstered by conservatives, and the movement for charter schools, which has found continuous bipartisan support since the ‘90s, both in how they found support, and in their organized opposition, which exists against charter schools and their financial implications for normal public school institutions. He, Emma, and Sam also explore the progress that has bolstered the institution of homeschooling, particularly in the growth of technology and the internet, before looking at its influence on conservative activism and organizing, from Homeschoolers for Bush to even Ted Cruz's 2016 campaign. They wrap up the interview by discussing the demobilizing capacity of undermining public institutions, and Sam and Emma also take on the bloody legacy of Colin Powell and run through recent updates on the IATSE strike, vaccine development, and Joe Manchin. Percy Hintzen Ph.D., Professor Emeritus at UC Berkeley and currently Professor of Global and Sociocultural Studies in the School of International and Public Affairs at Florida International University shared his experiences and expertise of White and Black relations from the Caribbeans to Africa, Asia, Europe, and the rest of Americas. He highlighted the problems faced by indigenous Black countries, the advent of Europeanized Africans,  correlation between language and power, and the solution to the global colonized world."We consider them as foreigners, but at the same time, they were the ones who exercised control over every aspect of our lives. And it was very violent. They had the privilege of power and they exercised authority over us in a very violent way" - Percy Hintzen Ph.D.,

The Cyber Hornets are primed to break out given their utility and their insane artwork! The origin of Cyber Hornets comes from a famous tweet from Bitcoin's finest… Michael Saylor. "#Bitcoin is a swarm of cyber hornets serving the goddess of wisdom, feeding on the fire of truth, exponentially growing ever smarter, faster, and stronger behind a wall of encrypted energy." Look for this project to make a name for itself in the NFT market place as it's already gearing up for a great run. Ether Towers is a hot new drop hitting the market. Different utilities for this project helps separate itself from the rest. Ethereum Towers is a simple array of towers, apartments and floors that are community-owned, and decisions are influenced as a collective. Majority of their “apartments” are currently FREE to mint. The roadmap looks to reward holders in a way that most projects don't. This is a project poised to pop.

Sam and Emma host historian Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, to discuss her recent book, “Not A ‘Nation Of Immigrants": Settler Colonialism, White Supremacy, And A History Of Erasure And Exclusion,“ on the settler-colonial roots of the US and the impossibility of obscuring them, no matter how much liberals push the “melting pot” ideology. They start off with the coining of the term “nation of immigrants” by Senator John F. Kennedy in '58, which was quickly adopted by the liberal US elite during their ‘60s fad of multiculturalism, and the status of which Biden has restored on the White House immigration page following Trump's removal of it. To help emphasize the meaninglessness of this term, Dunbar-Ortiz helps define what a “settler state” is, and how the US has always been one; they start with the British origins of settler-colonialism and the replacement of local and indigenous peoples in Northern Ireland, before the empire moved on to New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and, of course, North America. While colonialism had existed since Columbus' first arrival in the western hemisphere, the settler state brought about a new form of it, different even from the enslavement and exploitation of local peoples and resources engaged in by the Spanish, and saw the migration of Brits to new lands, while still claiming wholeheartedly their citizenship status to the British Empire. From a start that could not be more contrary to the concept of a  “melting” of cultures, Roxanne, Emma, and Sam then dive into the nature of the US as a Fiscal Military state, made for and by war, as they laid claim to “property rights” across the world via militia, before they move to reflect on the connections between the myth of Columbus and the Americanization of white immigrant populations, and the cultural perception of whiteness that drives American ideology. She particularly looks into the birth of an explicitly racist warfare ideology during the Spanish Inquisition, ingraining this blood quantum view of whiteness into a certain Christian ideology, and touches on how the legacy of Columbus reaches back to the first founding of the US, with the District of Columbia, and continues to be central in the history of Americanizing foreign white folks. Sam and Emma also discuss the absurdity of pretending to care about Columbus Day, and watch the Bobby Jindal-funded Black-Box Republican-Theater-commercial that aired during this weekend's Red Sox-Rays game.  Become a member at JoinTheMajorityReport.com Subscribe to the AMQuickie newsletter here. Sam and Emma host Max Chafkin, features editor and writer at Bloomberg BusinessWeek, to discuss his recent book The Contrarian: Peter Thiel and Silicon Valley's Pursuit of Power. Sam and Emma start off by taking a look at Kyrsten Sinema's interaction with organizers from LUCHA Arizona before she went to hide in a restroom, as opposed to engaging with them directly, as well as the disparity between the outraged reaction to the video and the video itself. Sam and Emma are then joined by Max to discuss Peter Thiel, the "contrarian posture" that's animated his life and his investments, as well as how that informed his interactions with Gawker, Facebook, and PayPal. Max discusses whether Thiel should be considered a "good investor", despite betting against the future, leaning in so far into his contrarian sensibilities that he accurately predicted the 2008 financial crash but botched his hedge fund investments afterwards, leading directly in to him transitioning the fund into a family office, as well as directly into his conflict and legal action with Hulk Hogan against Gawker. Max then details Thiel's "small" nest egg of $1 million that served as the basis for his wealth acquisition, as well as his appetite for competition when it serves him, as well as his absolute distaste for it when it doesn't. They then dive into Thiel's relationship with former President Trump, as well as his pet project of railing against "PC culture", a phenomena that he believes is the animating force of American politics. They then end on Thiel's interactions and partnerships with Glenn Greenwald (who, in fact, Thiel's company Palantir spied on years ago), JD Vance, and the new social media platform Rumble, and how Thiel's investments in these people and companies are symbolic, and that one can draw real comparison to Thiel's political project and that of the Koch brothers: transforming a section of the Republican Party through significant financial investment. Sam and Emma are then joined by David Dayen, executive editor at The American Prospect, to discuss his recent scoop "USPS Begins Postal Banking Pilot Program" as well as his report from last Friday "The Progressive Caucus Wields Power". David begins by outlining the parameters of this new postal banking pilot program through USPS, and how, if fully implemented, this program could significantly aid "unbanked" and "underbanked" people who fall prey to predatory banking schemes as a result of a lack of access to financial services. He goes on to explain the uneasy peace between Trump USPS holdover Louis DeJoy and the USPS union, who, on this one particular issue, are aligned on working toward implementation for its potential for revenue growth for the USPS (DeJoy's interest), as well as for expanding the services of USPS to people who really need them (the union's interest). David then explains whether further implementation will require additional Congressional approval (maybe so, maybe not), how Biden should prioritize a pro-postal banking advocate for a Board of Governors vacancy that remains, the Congressional support this policy already has, and what full implementation would really look in the long term. Sam, Emma, and David end on their discussion of the Progressive Caucus showing its might in blocking the bipartisan infrastructure bill from going to a vote away from the two track structure, the history of the CPC when it was a 6-person working group started by a young anonymous backbencher named Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Pramila Jayapal's ascendance in the ranks of the CPC leading to its growing power, and whether more of these stands may result in the future as a result of this one's success. And in the Fun Half, Sam and Emma correct the record on Senator Blumenthal's Finsta flub from Thursday, and propose that the next Big Tech "disruption" should be these companies being broken up by the government. They then check in on the Facebook whistleblower report from 60 Minutes last night, Nick Clegg being referred to as a "tobacco executive" on CNN by Brian Stelter (which he tries extremely hard to differentiate from, with middling results), Fox and Friends's incredible concern about the labor shortage before Christmas (it's October! Steve Doocy can't get his favorite coffee! A fate worse than death!), and the MR crew ends the day by taking a time machine to 2010 to see what Kyrsten Sinema's thoughts on reconciliation and the filibuster were then (Different!) Sam and Emma are on Shutdown Watch today. They tackle the week ahead in Congressional negotiations and gridlock, as we hurtle towards the potential scuttling of Biden's agenda and looming financial crisis if no action is taken. They start the show by touching on the increasingly polarized divide in COVID deaths between Trump and non-Trump districts, unpacking Breitbart's claim that this is because of libs capitalizing on the “own the libs” mentality, and dive into Senator Cotton's pressing of General Milley on Afghanistan and what the role of resignation should actually play in politics. Next, they dive into the complete turnaround on the infrastructure platform over the last few days, with Pelosi almost entirely chucking the deal that's been worked on for the last few months to the side in favor of a minuscule minority of corporate Dems, looking particularly at the role of Manchin's increasingly ridiculous arguments, from inflation and debt to the importance of “rewarding mentality (???)”, and how Sinema is sticking to her guns despite the upcoming vote of no confidence by the AZ Democratic Party on her service to her constituents. They also look specifically at how mainstream media coverage has turned on the infrastructure debate, suddenly forgetting the public statements made since Biden's campaign, highlighted by Meet The Press's repetition of a Meghan McCain quote that simply is wrong fact after fact, before looking at Jayapal continuing to stick up for the Congressional Progressive Caucus and covering the complete abandonment of Biden's original platform. And in the Fun Half: Nomiki Konst joins Sam and Emma as they cover Jack Posobiec accidentally inventing vaccines as an anti-vax solution, Scott Jensen's extended discussion of what comes out of his anus (incidentally it's NOT his talking points), as well as Hasan Piker and Ethan Klein's new show. They also touch on the importance of localized messaging heading into the midterms, watch Tucker Carlson and Naomi Wolf reminisce on the total lack of moralizing and the incredible empathy shown to AIDS victims during the epidemic, and cover Jayapal's recent release on behalf of the CPC. Sam and Emma host Ada Ferrer, Professor of History and Latin American and Caribbean Studies at New York University, to discuss her recent book Cuba: An American History, on how the constant pressure of American Imperialism has threatened the people and territory since its independence. They jump off from this question of why she dubs her work “An American History,” and how it works to trace the development of Cuba since early colonialism, particularly focusing on moments of increased intervention, from the boom in the slave trade on the island following the Haitian Revolution to the early founding fathers' desire to acquire it and the industries they could exploit. Moving into the mid-1800s, Professor Ferrer, Emma, and Sam look at the role of Cuban independence, which, despite its leaders seeing it as a check on American expansion, US officials attempted to claim affiliation with it, once again in hopes of exploiting the sugar and slave industries on the island, until the Civil War saw an end to much of that spirit. Exploring the transition into the 20th Century and an independent Cuba, Sam, Emma, and Ada dive into the Platt Amendment and how it cemented US intervention in Cuba whenever legislators saw fit, despite intense anti-imperialism and socialist views on the island, resulting in a variety of different periods of occupation culminating in another revolution to overthrow the Machado regime, and the democratic election of Batista, who, himself, would fall into a dictatorship bolstered by the US. Finally bubbling over with Castro's revolution, they cover how finally grasping true independence allowed for incredible development in social programs and general infrastructure, before they explore the effects of the 1990s economic crash in Cuba and the state of the cultural ongoings today. Sam and Emma also cover the wild week we could have in Congress with impending decisions on the debt ceiling, bipartisan bill, and reconciliation all likely to occur with the looming threat of a government shutdown. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma run through the various potential outcomes of the legislative agenda for this week, and how progressives can bolster their leverage and ensure the progression of their reconciliation bill. John from San Antonio calls in to discuss the lasting impact of the late MR Discord legend EJ on countless lives, Mike from Portland calls in to discuss de-Roganization, and Greg Abbott digs his feet into refusing exceptions for his abortion ban.
