Tech has always been a part of Aalok Shah's life. His father and mother influenced his tech interests and biomedical education. After working in nuclear medicine and supporting the special needs community, he found himself always drifting back towards tech and software development, hacking together websites and doing web consulting. Several years later, he was onboarded by the founders of EnergyFunders - a platform for investing in Oil & Gas - to help improve their technology feature set. The business took off, and they found themselves in need of a full time CTO - and Aalok was the best fit.

Late last month, the SEC kept its word from late 2014 when it said it would issue final rules for Regulation Crowdfunding under the JOBS Act by October 2015. [Jump to page 2 to watch the live interview 11/19/15 at 3:00 Eastern.] Todd Crosland, CEO and Founder of Seed Equity Ventures, a broker dealer already operating and doing crowdfunding type equity raises under the SEC’s Regulation D 506(c) rules for general solicitations, says, “ I believe the SEC passing Title III will be a watershed event for both startups and investors. Startups and the general investing public will be forever changed.” Crosland explains the import of the new rules, “The purpose is to allow non accredited investors the ability to invest in startups, which was once only reserved for the elite few.” The rules are final, but they aren’t effective, yet. As Crosland notes, “Once the rules go live on May 16, 2016 and Seed Equity’s platform is approved by the SEC and Finra, non-accredited investors will be able to invest through the Seed Equity platform.” ADVERTISING EnergyFunders will operate as a “platform” rather than as a broker-dealer under the new Regulation Crowdfunding rules, giving ordinary investors an opportunity to invest in oil and gas investments for the first time. EnergyFunders founder Philip Racusin says, “We hope to educate investors and provide them transparent access to an elite asset class which was previously inaccessible for many. We also hope to attract more small operators to use our platform, which will provide them project funding traditionally denied to them by banks.” Read the full Forbes article and watch the interview here: http://onforb.es/1NDWcdA. Well, at least own part of one... In this episode I’m joined by Philip Racusin who is CEO and Co-Founder of EnergyFunders. He’s a really interesting guy, full of energy and on a mission. He and his team at EnergyFunders are setting out to give people like you and I the opportunity to invest directly in oil and as development projects that would otherwise be the exclusive realm of Banks and the Uber rich. A good analogy would be Angel’s List who have made investing in Tech start-ups available to the masses. Of course, like any investment, there’s risk involved but what I’m excited about is having the option to apply my knowledge of the industry to my personal investments. I should note that I haven’t invested in any EnergyFunders projects yet nor am I getting anything for having Philip on the show, except of course the pleasure of his company and conversation for an hour or so. He’s just a really interesting guy doing inspiring things. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Philip Racusin.
